Resumo

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of integrated crop-livestock-forestry (ICLF) systems and the thinning of eucalyptus trees on the agronomical performance of soybean. Treatments consisted of cultivation under: crops under full sunlight (CFS) conditions; ICLF with triple-row tree configuration (ICLFT) in which trees were submitted to selective thinning in the fifth year after planting through removal of 50% of trees while maintaining triple-row bands; and ICLF with single-row tree band configuration (ICLFS) in which the lateral rows of the triple-row tree bands were subjected to systematic thinning at the fourth year after planting. The physiological and agronomical variables of the soybean crop were evaluated at the R5 and R8 reproductive stages during the eighth harvesting season (2018/2019). Soybean sampling was carried out at five random positions in the CFS and in four transects at distances of 3, 6, 10 and 15 m from the tree bands in both the north and south faces of the ICLF systems. There were no differences between soybean grown under the ICLF and CFS systems with respect to specific leaf area, plant density, lodging index and mass of a thousand grains. However, the ICLF increased dry leaf mass and leaf area index and reduced soybean plant heights. Soybean productivity was reduced by 26% in ICLF-T and 14% in ICLF-S, that is, a 12% reduction in the productivity loss with systematic thinning. It is concluded that ICLF reduces soybean productivity in the effective grain production area of the system, regardless of the degree of thinning, although systematic thinning by removing the lateral tree lines to conversion of triple-rows into single-rows minimizes the loss of soybean grain yield.


O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da integração lavoura-pecuária-floresta (ILPF) e do desbaste das árvores de eucalipto sobre o desempenho agronômico da soja. Os tratamentos consistiram em cultivo convencional a pleno sol (CPS), ILPF com configuração de fileira tripla (ILPF-T), em que as fileiras triplas de árvores foram submetidas ao desbaste seletivo no quinto ano após o plantio por meio da remoção de 50% das árvores e ILPF com configuração de fileira simples (ILPF-S), em que as faixas triplas de árvores foram submetidas ao desbaste sistemático no quarto ano após o plantio resultando em fileiras simples. As variáveis fisiológicas e agronômicas da soja foram avaliadas nos estágios reprodutivos R5 e R8 durante a oitava safra (2018/2019). As amostragens de soja foram realizadas em cinco posições aleatórias no CPS, enquanto as coletas foram realizadas em quatro transectos a distâncias de 3, 6, 10 e 15 m das faixas das árvores nas faces norte e sul dos sistemas ILPF. Não houve diferenças entre a soja cultivada nos sistemas ILPF e CPS em relação à área foliar específica, densidade de plantas, índice de acamamento e massa de mil grãos. No entanto, a ILPF aumentou a massa de folhas secas e o índice de área foliar e reduziu as alturas das plantas de soja. No desbaste seletivo de 50% das árvores (ILPF-T) a perda de produtividade da soja foi de 26%, enquanto no desbaste sistemático (ILPF-S) ela foi de 14%, ou seja, redução de 12% na perda de produtividade da soja. Portanto, a ILPF reduz o rendimento de grãos da soja independente da intensidade do desbaste realizado e o desbaste sistemático, com remoção das linhas laterais para conversão do sistema para linhas simples (ILPF-S) proporciona menor perda de rendimento de grãos da soja.

The most severe drought of this century in the Amazon rainforest, which was caused by El Niño, occurred from 2015 to 2016. With a focus on the ecophysiology of the regrowth of the Brazil nut tree, Bertholletia excelsa, it was investigated how the progression of the drought of 2015-2016 affected the physiological traits of the coppice regrowth of B. excelsa. The experiment was carried out in a ten-year-old plantation of Brazil nut trees, which had been subjected to thinning and coppice regrowth two years earlier. In the sprouts grown on the stumps of cut trees, the following treatments were applied: (T1) thinning to one sprout per stump; (T2) thinning to two sprouts per stump, and (T3) maintenance of three sprouts per stump. Thinning treatments did not alter the growth and ecophysiological traits of the Brazil nut tree sprouts, though the phosphorus content of the leaves was higher in T1. However, the progression of the drought in 2015-2016 negatively affected the growth (height) and gas exchange of sprouts of all treatments. In addition, an increase of around 37% was observed in the intrinsic wateruse efficiency. Concerning photochemical performance, no alterations were observed. Therefore, drought stress promoted a negative effect on sprout growth and affected traits related to the photosynthesis of the B. excelsa sprouts independently of the number of sprouts per stump.(AU)


A seca mais severa deste século na floresta amazônica, causada por El Niño, ocorreu de 2015 a 2016. Com foco na ecofisiologia da rebrota da castanheira da Amazônia, foi investigado como a progressão da seca de 2015-2016 afetou as características fisiológicas das rebrotas de uma talhadia de B. excelsa. O experimento foi realizado em uma plantação de castanheiras com dez anos, a qual havia sido submetida a um desbaste e rebrota de talhadia dois anos antes. Nas rebrotas crescidas sobre os tocos das árvores cortadas foram aplicados os seguintes tratamentos: (T1) desbrota para manter um broto por cepa; (T2) desbrota para manter dois brotos por cepa; e (T3) manutenção de três brotos por cepa. Os tratamentos de desbrota não alteraram o crescimento e as características ecofisiológicas dos brotos da castanheira, exceto para o teor foliar de fósforo, que foi maior em T1. Porém, a progressão da seca em 2015-2016 afetou negativamente o crescimento em altura e as trocas gasosas dos brotos de todos os tratamentos. Além disso, foi observado um aumento de cerca de 37% na eficiência intrínseca do uso da água. Quanto ao desempenho fotoquímico, não foram observadas alterações. Portanto, o estresse hídrico promoveu efeito negativo no crescimento da brotação e afetou características relacionadas à fotossíntese das brotações de B. excelsa, independentemente do número de brotações por cepa.(AU)

Background: Episcleral inflammation may be assumed to be primary immune-mediated, secondary to intra- or extraocular diseases, or systemic abnormalities. We aimed to report a confirmed and another suspect case of nodular episclerokeratites (NEK) due to its rarity in the clinical setting and the paucity of case reports in Brazilian literature. Cases: Case 1. Refers to a 7-year-old castrated male, Collie-mixed breed, presenting with epiphora and an irregular ocular surface shape in the left eye (LE). Ophthalmic evaluation of this eye revealed mucoid discharge, conjunctival hyperemia, episcleral injection, and a gelatinous mass in the temporal limbic region. Biomicroscopic evaluation of the anterior chamber, lens, and vitreous was impaired in the LE because of corneal vessels and a mild flare in the aqueous humor. Histopathology of a scleral biopsy revealed the presence of lymphocytes, histiocytes, and some plasma cells. Positive CD3-lymphocytes were observed by immunohistochemistry, confirming the diagnosis of NEK. Case 2. Refers to a 8-year-old, spayed female Border Collie with a history of exophthalmos, conjunctival hyperemia, and inability to close the eyelid of the LE. During ophthalmic examination, an irregular espicleral nodule of approximately 9 mm was also found in the temporal limbic region, along with enlargement of episcleral vessels and scleral thinning at the equatorial region. The cornea showed mild and diffuse edema, and white crystal-like deposits were distributed in a band-like fashion at the dorsal aspect. Ultrasonography revealed scleral thinning without evidence of a mass effect arising from the iris, ciliary body, or retrobulbar space. Based on these findings, NEK was suspected. In both cases, the clinical signs reduced significantly after seven days of topical treatment with corticosteroids and cyclosporine. Discussion: It is assumed that scleral disorders are primarily immune mediated. However, such conditions may develop secondary to ocular trauma (surgery and foreign bodies), Ehrlichia canis, and Onchocerca spp. Infections and situations were ruled out in both cases. In case 1, additional histological and immunohistochemical findings supported a primary and immune-mediated scleral disease. Although the definitive diagnosis was not confirmed by histology in case 2, one can assume that the episcleral inflammation may have arisen due to an immune-mediated disorder once the eye responded positively to corticosteroid therapy. Additionally, secondary glaucoma was excluded as a possible diagnosis in case 2, because the intraocular pressure of the affected eye was below the reference range for dogs, coupled with the irregular appearance of the episclera, which is not characteristic of canine glaucoma. Moreover, in case 2, because remission of the masses of neoplastic origin after corticotherapy was not expected, the tumor was discarded. NEK has a characteristic ploriferative behavior and resistance to topical immunosuppression; clinical recurrence was not observed in the LE of either patient who remained on treatment after 60 days of follow-up. Regarding prognosis, one study showed a correlation between cellular contingent and therapeutic responses. The percentage of positive CD79a cells (B-lymphocytes) was significantly higher in cases of epicleritis and NEK, in which a poor response was achieved after topical immunosuppressive treatment. As shown by the veterinary literature and the cases described here, the complete remission of NEK is more common in unilateral cases, as confirmed after a 12-month follow-up. The 2 reported cases are useful for clarifying the common findings, diagnosis, and long-term management of NEK. Scleral abnormalities, such as NEK, must be included in the list of differential diagnoses of glaucoma, neoplasia, and endophthalmitis during ophtalmic examination.

Understanding the dormancy phases and dynamics of commercial cultivars in the regions where they are grown allows for the implementation of different cultural practices and aids in the understanding of the temperature requirements for collaboration with genetic improvement programs. The objective of this study was to determine the budding, flowering, and fruit set rates of peach trees cultivated in the municipality of Dois Vizinhos, Southwestern Paraná, Brazil. The present work was developed using the collection of peach trees in the fruit growing sector of the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná. Sixteen peach cultivars were evaluated: Rubimel, Leonense, Coral, Marli, Charme, Riograndense, Douradão, Chimarrita, Granada, BR1, Bonão, and Eldorado (all planted in 2009), as well as Regalo, Kampai, Fascínio, and Zilli (planted in 2014). The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of one plant each, in a 16 × 2 bifactorial arrangement (cultivars × year/harvest). Phenology evaluations were performed weekly by counting open (anthesis) and sprouted flower buds, and the fruit set rate was measured just before fruit thinning. Flowering (%), budding (%), and fruit set (%) rates were calculated. It was found that the year/harvest 2016 promoted the highest rates of sprouting and fruit set. The Bonão cultivar showed greater flowering intensity and regularity in the crop years evaluated (2016 and 2017). Coral and Kampai present fruit sets with greater intensities and regularities when compared to the other cultivars evaluated under the climatic condition of the municipality of Dois Vizinhos. The Riograndense cultivar showed greater irregularity in flowering and fruit production.(AU)


Compreender as fases e a dinâmica da dormência de cultivares comerciais na região em que essa está inserida possibilita a execução de diferentes práticas culturais e auxilia na compreensão dos requisitos de frio e calor exigidos pela mesma, colaborando principalmente com os programas de melhoramento genético. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as taxas de brotação, floração e frutificação efetiva de pessegueiros sob as condições ambientais de cultivo no município de Dois Vizinhos, região Sudoeste do Paraná. O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido na coleção de pessegueiros do setor de Fruticultura da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná. Foram avaliadas 16 cultivares de pessegueiros, sendo 'Rubimel', 'Leonense', 'Coral, 'Marli', 'Charme', 'Riograndense', 'Douradão', 'Chimarrita', 'Granada', 'BR-1', 'Bonão' e 'Eldorado' implantadas em 2009 e 'Regalo', 'Kampai', 'Fascínio' e 'Zilli', implantadas em 2014. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de uma planta cada, no arranjo bifatorial 16 x 2 (cultivares x anos/safra). As avaliações de fenologia foram realizadas semanalmente através da contagem de gemas florais abertas (antese) e brotadas, e a taxa de frutificação efetiva foi realizada imediatamente antes do raleio de frutos. Foram calculadas as taxas de floração (%), de brotação (%) e de frutificação efetiva (%). Nas condições climáticas do município de Dois Vizinhos, no Estado do Paraná, verificou-se que o ano/safra 2016 promoveu as maiores taxas de brotação e frutificação efetiva. A cultivar 'Bonão' apresentou maior intensidade e regularidade de floração nos anos safra avaliados (2016 e 2017). As cultivares 'Coral' e 'Kampai' apresentam frutificação efetiva com maior intensidades e regularidade em relação aos demais cultivares avaliados para a condição de clima do local avaliado. A cultivar 'Riograndense' apresentou maior irregularidade na floração e na produção de frutos.(AU)

Background: Congenital anomalies are structural, functional, or metabolic defects caused by a combination of environmental, genetic, or even iatrogenic factors. Genetic defects, which can be inherited, are more common in purebred dogs. Teratogenic factors such as radiation, toxins, chemical agents, infectious diseases, mechanical influences, drugs given to the mother, and nutrition can affect the litter during gestational development. The incomplete division of a fertilized egg results in monozygotic, conjoined or Siamese twins, which are animals with complete or incomplete duplications. This paper reports on an adult bitch with monocephalus dipygus dibrachius and the surgical procedures. Case: A 2-year-old female Shih Tzu weighing 5 kg was admitted to a veterinary clinic, presenting with swelling and myiasis near the anus and several development disorders, characterized by 2 pelvises, 2 anuses, 2 vulvas, 2 forelimbs and 6 hindlimbs. Her physiological parameters were otherwise normal. Only the dog's myiasis was treated at this time due to the owner's financial straits. After 5 months, the owner brought the bitch back to the veterinary clinic because the animal presented with fecaloma in 1 of the anuses. Radiography revealed numerous alterations: seven lumbar vertebrae with marked vertebral axis deviation, reduced disc space, as well as ankylosis and fused ventral spondylosis at L6 and L7. Two pelvises fused medially by the wings of the ileum, with slight deviation and thinning of pelvic bones. Four hip joints and medial joints with pelvic avulsion and bone remnants of the pelvic limbs. Acetabular tearing slightly flattened femoral head and thickened femoral neck. Caudal vertebrae and vertebral axis located in left pelvis. Left lateral patella inserted in the trochlear groove and lateral dislocation of right patella. Right patellofemoral joint with smooth surface, preserved intra-articular density and cranial displacement of the tibia relative to the femoral condyles (cranial cruciate ligament rupture). An ultrasound analysis revealed 2 bladders. Two months later surgery was performed due to recurrent complications. During laparotomy 2 uteruses, 2 bladders and bifurcation of the intestine were observed. Ovariosalpingohysterectomy was performed in both uterus and enterectomy of the problematic intestinal portion. After 2 days of the surgery, blood transfusion was performed. After 2 days of the transfusion, there was extravasation of yellow fluid from the surgical cut and abdominal palpation was indicative of bladder rupture, so the patient was sent to emergency surgery. Unilateral nephrectomy and ureterectomy, and ruptured bladder cystectomy were performed. The dog remained hospitalized for 24 days after surgery, before it was released. Discussion: The classification of conjoined twins is based on the location of the junction and the number of limbs. Monocephalus dipygus dibrachius was diagnosed based on the fact that the dog had 1 skull, 2 thoracic limbs and 4 pelvic limbs, as well as the corresponding genitourinary and gastrointestinal tract alterations. Imaging scans are extremely important for a proper diagnosis to ensure appropriate surgery planning. The bitch was the result of inbreeding between a male dog and its offspring, which probably contributed to this malformation. There are very few reports of surviving adult conjoined animals, and even fewer descriptions of successful surgical treatments. To the best of knowledge of the authors, there are no previous reports of a surviving adult dog suffering from this malformation.

Increased planting density, different types of thinning management, and the use of beneficial microorganisms have been adopted as strategic tools in the effort to increase crop yields in a sustainable manner. This investigation evaluated the growth and production of ‘Prata Anã Gorutuba’ banana ( Musa spp., AAB) under different plant densities during two production cycles in the semiarid region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Micropropagated plantlets were also inoculated with endophytic bacteria and cultivated as part of two mat management strategies. Planting density varied between 1,680 and 3,920 plant ha–1. During the experiment, water was less than optimal because of rationing due to drought in the region. Under field conditions, there was no difference between bacterially inoculated and non-inoculated plants. The dense planting system increased the crop cycle. The highest-density planting treatment (3,920 plant ha–1) resulted in the highest yield in the first cycle, but no net income was observed. However, the high-density planting treatments resulted in the highest yields and gross incomes in the second production cycle. Management with thinning of plants up to 10-months-old and thinning up to harvest associated with high planting density increased the length of the production cycles. Although the water restriction experienced in the first and second crop cycles, the vegetative and productive traits of ‘Prata Anã Gorutuba’ banana did not compromise the objectives of this study.

The guava is a fruit of strong economic and social relevance, regionally projected and greatly importantin some regions of Brazil. The chemical thinning has been adopted in some fruit trees to obtain greater caliber of fruits and better prices. However, some aspects still need to be investigated for the safe and economical viability use of such technique. This research aimed to evaluate the chemical thinning efficiency, production and commercial classification of guava fruits cv. Paluma and provide an economic analysis of this crop system. The ethephon and benzyladenine were applied to fruits with an average size of 18 mm at 0, 150, 300 and 450 mg L-¹. The trial was carried out in two crop seasons, and the randomized block design was used as statistical model in a factorial arrangement 2x4. The economic analysis was calculated through total production operational cost, in order to determine gross revenue, net revenue, profitability index, equilibrium price and yield. The benzyladenine and ethephon promoted the highest percentage of thinning fruits at 450 mg L-¹, with averages of 67.6% and 70.0%, respectively. However, benzyladenine had a phytotoxic effect when applied at highest concentrations, 300 and 450 mg L-¹, respectively. The ethephon enabled greater production of larger caliber fruits in the highest concentration (450 mg L-¹). Chemical thinning reduced total operational cost and increased net revenue by 7.57%, as compared to hand thinning. Results also presented that chemical fruit thinning provided equilibrium yield of 4.98 t ha-¹ for 'Paluma' guava fruit, as fresh fruit.


A goiaba é uma fruteira que apresenta grande importância econômica e social, com projeção regional e grande relevância em algumas regiões produtoras no Brasil. O raleio químico tem sido adotado em algumas fruteiras para a obtenção de melhor qualidade e maior calibre dos frutos. Entretanto, alguns aspectos ainda precisam ser avaliados, para o uso seguro desta técnica. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliara eficiência do raleio químico sobre a produção e a classificação comercial dos frutos de goiaba cv. Paluma e fornecer uma análise econômica deste sistema de cultivo. Foram aplicados ethefhon e benziladenina nas concentrações de a 0, 150, 300 e 450 mg L-¹ nos frutos com tamanho médio de 18 mm. O experimento foi conduzido em dois ciclos agrícolas em delineamento de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 2x4. A análise econômica foi calculada por meio do custo operacional total de produção, receita bruta, receita líquida, índice de lucratividade, preço e produtividade de equilíbrio. A benziladenina e o ethefhon 450 mg L-¹ apresentaram a maior porcentagem de raleio químico dos frutos, com médias de 67,6% e 70,0%, respectivamente. No entanto, a benziladenina apresentou efeito fitotóxico quando aplicada nas maiores concentrações, 300 e 450 mg L-¹, respectivamente. O ethefhon possibilitou maior produção de frutos de maior calibre, na maior concentração (450 mg L-¹. O raleio químico reduziu o custo operacional total e aumentou a receita líquida em 7,57%, em relação ao sistema de cultivo com raleio manual, destacando ainda que a adoção do raleio químico de frutos proporcionou rendimento de equilíbrio de 4,98 t ha-¹ para a goiaba 'Paluma', como fruta de mesa.

A goiaba é uma fruteira que apresenta grande importância econômica e social, com projeção regional e grande relevância em algumas regiões produtoras no Brasil. O raleio químico tem sido adotado em algumas fruteiras para a obtenção de melhor qualidade e maior calibre dos frutos. Entretanto, alguns aspectos ainda precisam ser avaliados, para o uso seguro desta técnica. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliara eficiência do raleio químico sobre a produção e a classificação comercial dos frutos de goiaba cv. Paluma e fornecer uma análise econômica deste sistema de cultivo. Foram aplicados ethefhon e benziladenina nas concentrações de a 0, 150, 300 e 450 mg L-¹ nos frutos com tamanho médio de 18 mm. O experimento foi conduzido em dois ciclos agrícolas em delineamento de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 2x4. A análise econômica foi calculada por meio do custo operacional total de produção, receita bruta, receita líquida, índice de lucratividade, preço e produtividade de equilíbrio. A benziladenina e o ethefhon 450 mg L-¹ apresentaram a maior porcentagem de raleio químico dos frutos, com médias de 67,6% e 70,0%, respectivamente. No entanto, a benziladenina apresentou efeito fitotóxico quando aplicada nas maiores concentrações, 300 e 450 mg L-¹, respectivamente. O ethefhon possibilitou maior produção de frutos de maior calibre, na maior concentração (450 mg L-¹. O raleio químico reduziu o custo operacional total e aumentou a receita líquida em 7,57%, em relação ao sistema de cultivo com raleio manual, destacando ainda que a adoção do raleio químico de frutos proporcionou rendimento de equilíbrio de 4,98 t ha-¹ para a goiaba 'Paluma', como fruta de mesa.(AU)

Plant spacing is a potential driver of tree form and yield in forest plantations. However, its effects on the productivity of tree plantations in the Amazon are still little known. This study examined the effects of six spacing regimes (3 x 4, 4 x 4, 4 x 5, 5 x 5, 5 x 6, and 6 x 6 m) on the growth and morphometry of a 20-year-old plantation of Bertholletia excelsa. We observed high, spacing-independent survival (> 70%). For timber production purposes, intermediate and two large spacing regimes tended to higher values of yield components, mainly diameter, biomass, and volume, although some did not differ significantly from the smallest spacing. One of the intermediate spacings (5 x 5 m) tended to higher commercial height. Tree crowns tended to be wider and longer in the larger spacings, which indicates the potential of these regimes for fruit production. Tree crowns exceeded the vital growth space in all spacing regimes, which suggests the need for thinning before the age of 20 years in all spacings to reduce intraspecific competition and increase yield. We estimated that a density of 84 remaining trees per hectare would be necessary to reach an average diameter of 40 cm at the age of 20 years. Thus, B. excelsa had high survival in the tested range of spacing regimes, while the intermediate and the largest spacing regimes led to better tree growth and morphometry.(AU)


O espaçamento de plantio determina a forma e produtividade das árvores em plantações florestais. Entretanto, seus efeitos sobre a produtividade de plantações de espécies arbóreas da Amazônia ainda são pouco compreendidos. Objetivou-se examinar os efeitos de seis regimes de espaçamento (3 x 4, 4 x 4, 4 x 5, 5 x 5, 5 x 6, e 6 x 6 m) sobre o crescimento e morfometria de plantações de Bertholletia excelsa aos 20 anos de idade. Observamos alta sobrevivência independentemente do espaçamento (> 70%). Para fins de produção de madeira, os regimes de espaçamento intermediário e dois maiores apresentaram valores mais altos de características de produção, principalmente diâmetro, biomassa e volume, embora alguns não diferiram significativamente do menor espaçamento. Um dos espaçamentos intermediários (5 x 5 m) tendeu a maior altura comercial. As copas das árvores tenderam a ser mais largas e longas nos espaçamentos maiores, indicando potencial desses regimes para a produção de frutos. As copas das árvores excederam o espaço vital de crescimento em todos os espaçamentos, sugerindo a necessidade de desbaste antes dos 20 anos em todos os espaçamentos, para reduzir a competição intraespecífica e aumentar a produtividade. Estimamos que uma densidade de 84 árvores remanescentes por hectare seria necessária para atingir um diâmetro médio de 40 cm aos 20 anos. Portanto, B. excelsa apresentou alta sobrevivência em todos os regimes de espaçamento testados, enquanto os regimes de espaçamento intermediário e maiores proporcionaram melhor crescimento e morfometria das árvores.(AU)

Chemical thinning of fruits may be an alternative practice to hand thinning. Hand thinning must be performed in a short time during the fruiting stage, but lack of manpower and the onerous costs of the operation make it increasingly difficult to employ it at the right time and at the ideal intensity. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of different concentrations of metamitron as a chemical thinner on 'PS 10711' peach trees. The experiment was carried out during two harvests in an orchard in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul, in the Central Depression region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Treatments consisted of the application of metamitron at the concentrations of 100, 200, 300 and 400 mg L-¹; hand thinning; and no thinning. The fruits were thinned chemically and by hand 40 days after the peach trees were in full bloom. Fruit abscission, fruit set, number of fruits, production per tree and fruit quality were evaluated. Metamitron has a thinning effect on the peaches of cultivar PS 10711.The metamitron concentrations of 100 and 200 mg L-¹ result in less fruit abscission as compared with hand thinning. The thinning effect of metamitron alters production per tree, but does not interfere with fruit quality.


O raleio químico de frutos pode ser uma prática alternativa ao raleio manual. O raleio manual necessita ser executado num curto período da frutificação, mas a falta de mão de obra e a onerosidade dos custos da operação cada vez mais dificultam o seu emprego no momento adequado e na intensidade ideal. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes concentrações do metamitron como raleante químico nos pessegueiros ‘PS 10711’. O experimento foi realizado durante duas safras num pomar do município de Eldorado do Sul, região da Depressão Central do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os tratamentos consistiram na aplicação de metamitron nas concentrações de 100 mg L-¹, 200 mg L-¹, 300 mg L-¹ e 400mg L-¹, raleio manual e plantas sem raleio. O raleio químico e manual dos frutos foram realizados aos 40 dias após a plena floração dos pessegueiros. Avaliou-se a abscisão de frutos, frutificação efetiva, número de frutos, produção por planta e a qualidade dos frutos. O metamitron possui efeito raleante em pêssegos da cultivar PS 10711. As concentrações de 100 e 200 mg L-¹ de metamitron promove abscisão de frutos inferior ao raleio manual. O efeito raleante do metamitron altera a produção por planta, mas não interfere na qualidade dos frutos.

The quality of sparkling wine reflects the climate and management of vineyard, since these factors affect grape development, berry composition, and base wine composition. Chardonnay vines were subjected to five in-row spacing distances (0.5; 0.75; 1.0; 1.50; and 2.0 m) combined with and without shoot thinning. Dairy desserts containing Caesalpinia pulcherrima seed galactomannan were evaluated to determine their static and dynamic rheological behaviors. Variations in consistency index (k), flow behavior (n), yield stress and thixotropy of the desserts indicated that the galactomannan caused an increase in the shear stress and apparent viscosity of the system. All samples exhibited shear-thinning behavior with flow behavior index values (n) between 0.06 and 0.37. Dynamic rheological behavior was evaluated for MD (high solid levels) and MD/2 (half the amount of solids) groups, and both G and G moduli were depended on the frequency. The MD and MD/2 groups showed variations in the elastic modulus (G) throughout the temperature range (mainly at 50 °C), showing greater sensitivity at high temperatures. C. pulcherrima galactomannan was able to promote synergism with starch, milk protein and sucrose and to improve the development of stronger and more resistant gels.(AU)


Sobremesas lácteas contendo galactomanana de semente de Caesalpinia pulcherrima tiveram suas propriedades reológicas estáticas e dinâmicas avaliadas. As variações nos índices de consistência (K) e comportamento de fluxo (n), assim como na tensão inicial de fluxo e na tixotropia das sobremesas mostraram o efeito da galactomanana sobre a tensão de cisalhamento e viscosidade aparente dos sistemas lácteos. Todas as sobremesas exibiram comportamento pseudoplástico, com índices de comportamento de fluxo (n) variando entre 0,06 e 0,37. A reologia dinâmica dos grupos MD (alto teor de sólidos) e MD/2 (metade do teor de sólidos), mostrou G > G e módulos dependentes da frequência e da temperatura. Alterações químicas nos componentes das sobremesas foram observadas a 50° C em virtude da maior sensibilidade dos valores de G e G a partir dessa temperatura. A galactomanana de C. pulcherrima contribuiu para o desenvolvimento de géis mais fortes e resistentes nas sobremesas lácteas, bem como mostrou sinergismo com amido, proteína do leite e sacarose.(AU)

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito das telas de 50% de sombreamento coloridas sobre a emergência e o desenvolvimento de mudas de três espécies de fisális. O delineamento experimental foi blocos ao acaso, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas com quatro repetições. As telas utilizadas apresentaram 50% de sombreamento e quatro colorações + cultivo a pleno sol. As subparcelas consistiram de três espécies de fisális. A semeadura foi realizada em tubetes e o desbaste ocorreu 40 dias após a semeadura. Durante este período foram avaliadas algumas variáveis fitotécnicas e fisiológicas. A emergência das plantas foi favorecida em ambiente com presença de telas. Os ambientes de cultivo apresentaram interação com as espécies em relação ao índice de velocidade de emergência, diâmetro do colo, altura das plantas, biomassa seca de folha e na taxa de transpiração das mudas. Os ambientes não interferiram na taxa assimilatória líquida, radiação fotossinteticamente ativa, índiceSPAD, biomassa seca de raízes, caule e folhas, e no número de folhas por planta. As telas de sombreamento interferiram na temperatura do ar e umidade relativa do ar e em algumas características fitotécnicas. O uso da tela de sombreamento cor preta proporciou uma muda de melhor qualidade.

The experimental design used was a completely randomized block design with subdivided plots and four replicates. The treatments consisted of screens providing 50% shading and four colorations, as well as cultivation in full sunlight. The subplots consisted of three species of Physalis. Seeding was carried out in tubes and thinning was performed 40 days after sowing. During this period, the phytotechnical and physiological variables were evaluated. Plant emergence was favored by the screens. The cultivation environments interacted with the species regarding the emergence speed index, collar diameter, plant height, dry leaf biomass, and seedling transpiration rate. The environments did not interfere with the net assimilation rate, active photosynthetic radiation, SPAD index, dry root, stem and leaf biomass, and number of leaves per plant. The shading screens interfered with the air temperature and relative air humidity, as well as with a few phytotechnical characteristics. The use of a black shading screen provided a higher quality seedling.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo descrever um caso de carcinoma espinocelular da base do chifre, bilateral e simétrico, em uma vaca e discutir a questão hormonal, possivelmente envolvida na patogênese da doença. Tratava-se de uma fêmea bovina, 11 anos, com histórico de emagrecimento progressivo, presença de massas exofíticas na base de ambos os chifres e em anestro por muitos anos. Foi realizada biopsia incisional de ambas as lesões para exame histopatológico e dosagens hormonais. Devido à progressão do quadro clínico, optou-se pela eutanásia, seguida dos exames necroscópico e histopatológico. O exame histopatológico revelou tratar-se de um carcinoma espinocelular infiltrativo bem diferenciado, e as dosagens hormonais apresentaram alterações nos níveis do hormônio luteinizante, folículo estimulante e estrógenos totais. Apesar de existirem descrições de carcinomas espinocelulares da base do chifre, ainda não havia relatos da ocorrência do mesmo bilateral e em uma vaca com distúrbios hormonais.(AU)


The objective of this study was to describe a case of bilateral and symmetrical squamous cell carcinoma from the horn base in a cow and to discuss the hormonal question, possibly involved in its pathogenesis. A 11-year-old beef cow presenting a history of progressive thinning, presence of exophytic masses at the base of both horns and anestrous for many years was assisted. An incisional biopsy of both lesions was performed for histopathological examination and hormonal dosages. Due to the clinical progression, euthanasia followed by necroscopic and histopathological examination was carried out. Histopathological examination revealed a well differentiated infiltrative squamous cell carcinoma and the hormonal dosages presented changes in luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating and total estrogen levels.
