The objective of this study was to evaluate the interactions in the bromatological characteristics of piatã grass and grazing behavior of Nelore heifers submitted to different heights of continuous pasture and nitrogen fertilization levels in the piatã grass pasture in two seasons of the year. The treatments were combinations between seasons (summer and winter), grazing intensities (20 cm and 40 cm high) and fertilization conditions (50 kg and 300 kg of N). Were evaluated the pasture composition (PB, FDN and FDA), grazing behavior and search patterns and food seizure. The comparison between the treatments average was performed by Tukey test at a 5% significance level. It was observed a higher PB content, ruminating time, time per bit, station/min and steps/min in summer, as opposed to the idle time, number of bits/EA and time/EA that were higher in winter. As for the grass height, the idle time and the bit rate were lower in 20 cm pastures, already the time per bit and the PB amounts were higher. The treatment that used 50 kg of N/ha/year fertilization presented FDN and FDA higher levels. The PB content, idle time, bits/EA and time/EA were higher in the pastures that used a 300 kg of N/ha/year fertilizer, but grazing time, time per bit and station/min was lower. Thus, it was concluded that the forage management, or by the season, grazing height or fertilization, influence on the forage nutritional quality and on the animals grazing behavior, however, the behavior responds in a particular way in the different pasture conditions studied.
