This article intends to summarize Caio Prado Junior`s analisys of the landproblem, based on articles published by the historian in the Revista Brasilienseand in the book A Revolução Brasileira. Those texts were clearly intended torebuff the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) burgeois revolution theory, which considered the late existence of large non-productive rural estate in brazilian rural environment as a proof of feudal remains. Considering the subject from his own point of view, with no partisan affiliation, the scholar rather emphasized the rural worker´s possible gains from the implementation of rural labour law. The debate between the scholar and the party, in a conjuncture in which land reform was an essential feature of president João Goulart`s base reforms, highlights the diversity of the left social thought existing in Brazil during the first half of the 1960`s.(AU)
