RESUMO
Abstract This study evaluated the effect of post-cure heat treatment (PCHT) on the Knoop microhardness (KHN), degree of conversion (DC), color changes, and contrast ratio (CR) of four resin composites (RCs): Z100 (3M ESPE), Z350 XT (3M ESPE), Estelite Omega (Tokuyama) and Empress Direct (Ivoclar Vivadent). Specimens (12 × 1 mm) were prepared for each material (n = 10 / group). After curing, samples were subjected to PCHT for 10 min at 100°C or 170°C. Control group was maintained at room temperature (24°C) for the same time. The DC was analyzed by FT-NIR immediately and 24 h after the PCHT (n = 3 / group). KHN was analyzed 24 h after PCHT (n = 10 / group). According to CIEDE2000 (∆E00), color measurements were obtained immediately after curing, five minutes after PCHT, and after seven days of storage in water, coffee, and red wine. Data were analyzed by One and Two-Way ANOVA (p < 0.05). Z100, Z350, and Estelite Omega showed increases in KHN with increased temperature (p < 0.05). PCHT at 100°C and 170°C led to a higher DC of all RCs (p < 0.05). Initially, the PCHT lead to increased ∆E00 values (p < 0.05), which was decreased after immersion in coffee and wine (p < 0.05). Considering the effect of PCHT and staining solutions, lower color changes were observed in the thermally treated specimens (p < 0.05). Taken collectively, the results suggest the PCHT as an economical and practical alternative to enhance direct RC's properties in direct-indirect and indirect restorations.

Abstract Objective This study aims to evaluate the influence of different air-abrasion pressures and subsequent heat treatment on the flexural strength, surface roughness, and crystallographic phases of highly translucent partially stabilized zirconia (Y-PSZ), and on the tensile bond strength of resin cement to Y-PSZ. Methodology Fully sintered zirconia specimens were ground with SiC paper (control) and/or air-abraded with 50 µm particles of alumina at 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, or 0.3 MPa or left as-sintered. After air-abrasion at 0.2 MPa (0.2AB), additional specimens were then heated to 1500°C, and held for one hour at this temperature (0.2AB+HT1h). Flexural strength and surface roughness were evaluated. Crystalline phase identification was also carried out using X-ray diffraction. Bonded zirconia specimens with self-adhesive resin cement were stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 h, either with or without aging (thermal cycling 4-60°C/20000). Results were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey-Kramer tests. Results The flexural strength decreased with the increase in air-abrasion pressure, while in contrast, the surface roughness increased. The lowest flexural strength and the highest roughness value were found for the 0.2AB and 0.3AB groups, respectively. All groups contained cubic-, tetragonal ( t )-, and rhombohedral ( r )-ZrO2 phases with the exception of the as-sintered group. Upon increasing the air-abrasion pressure, the relative amount of the r -ZrO2 phase increased, with a significant amount of r -ZrO2 phase being detected for the 0.2AB and 0.3AB groups. The 0.2AB+HT1h group exhibited a similar flexural strength and t -ZrO2 phase content as the as-sintered group. However, the 0.2AB group showed a significantly higher tensile bond strength (p<0.05) than the 0.2AB+HT1h group before and after aging. Conclusion Micromechanical retention by alumina air-abrasion at 0.2 MPa, in combination with chemical bonding of a resin to highly translucent Y-PSZ using a MDP-containing resin cement may enable durable bonding.

Abstract Introduction Polymethyl methacrylate and bis-acryl resins are materials widely used for temporary restorations, however, both have a characteristic of polymerization exotermia that should be investigated because of possible interferences in clinical success. Objective to evaluate the variation of the polymerization temperature of bis-acryl resin and a chemically activated acrylic resin in the temporary restoration by the direct method. Material and method Twenty bovine mandibular incisor teeth were divided into two groups: AR (N = 10) teeth restored with acrylic resin and BR (N = 10) teeth restored with bis-acryl resin. Measurements of thermal variations were performed using type J thermocouples, connected to an optical thermometer and analyzed by a computer equipped with specific software. The obtained data were analyzed and submitted to the analysis of means compared by Tukey test (significance of 5%). Result It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference between both experimental groups (p = 0.0739), even though AR temperature increase presented higher average (0.52ºC) than BR (0.44ºC). Conclusion There is no significant experimental difference between the heat emitted by acrylic resin and bis-acryl resin during their polymerization processes, not defining the factor that characterizes a choice of a material for temporary restorations.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the root canal preparation and apical enlargement of molar root canals with rotary or reciprocating heat-treated nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments, by using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Methodology Mesial root canals (n=48) of mandibular molars, with a curvature between 20° and 40°, were prepared with ProDesign Logic (PDL) 25.01 and 25.06 in rotary motion, or ProDesign R (PDR) 25.06 in reciprocating motion (PDR). Apical enlargement was performed with PDL35.01 and PDL35.05 or PDR35.05. Scanning with 9 µm resolution was performed before and after preparation, and, after apical enlargement, by using micro-CT. The percentage of volume increase, debris and untouched root canal surface, transportation, centralization and preparation time were analyzed. ANOVA and Tukey or Kruskall-Wallis and Dunn statistical tests were conducted (α=.05). Results PDL promoted a higher apical percentage of volume increase, and lower percentage of debris and untouched root canal surface than PDR 25.06 preparation in entire canal and in all thirds (P<.05). Apical enlargement with PDL 35.05 and PDR 35.05 produced a higher percentage of volume increase in the apical region in relation to the initial preparation (P<.05). PDR 35.05 and PDL 35.05 showed similar results in relation to percentage of debris and untouched root canal surface in entire canal and in all thirds (P>.05). Centralization and transportation showed no difference (P>.05). PDR required less time to perform preparation and apical enlargement (P<.05). Conclusions The apical enlargement 35.05 with CM heat-treatment instruments using reciprocating and rotary motion reduced the percentage of debris and untouched root canal surface, without causing deviations or procedural errors. The protocol of greater apical enlargement favors the cleaning of the root canals in both kinematics. Preparation by the reciprocating system was faster than by the rotary system.

Abstract Objective: This study evaluated the influence of porcelain (VM9, VITA Zahnfabrik, Germany) thickness on the flexural strength and crack propagation in bilayered zirconia systems (YZ, VITA Zahnfabrik, Germany). Material and Methods: Thirty zirconia bars (20.0x4.0x1.0 mm) and six zirconia blocks (12.0x7.5x1.2 mm) were prepared and veneered with porcelain with different thickness: 1 mm, 2 mm, or 3 mm. The bars of each experimental group (n=10) were subjected to four-point flexural strength testing. In each ceramic block, a Vickers indentation was created under a load of 10 kgf for 10 seconds, for the propagation of cracks. Results: The results of flexural strength were evaluated by One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test, with a significance level of 5%. The factor "thickness of the porcelain" was statistically significant (p=0.001) and the l-mm group presented the highest values of flexural strength. The cracks were predominant among the bending specimens with 1 and 2 mm of porcelain, and catastrophic failures were found in 50% of 3-mm-thick porcelain. After the indentation of blocks, the most severe defects were observed in blocks with 3-mm-thick porcelain. Conclusion: The smallest (1 mm) thickness of porcelain on the zirconia infrastructure presented higher values of flexural strength. Better resistance to defect propagation was observed near the porcelain/ zirconia interface for all groups. Higher flexural strength was found for a thinner porcelain layer in a bilayered zirconia system. The damage caused by a Vickers indentation near and far the interface with the zirconia shows that the stress profiles are different.

The purpose of this literature review was to analyze, through literature, considerations about the deformation and wear down of dental implant drills surfaces during their use, as well as the heating produced during drilling. In possession of this review, articles interrelated to wear down due to temperature produced during osteotomies were sought. Evaluations, comments and discussions were performed about the subject, concluding that the wear down that affects the drills that pierce the bone during the osteotomy are directly related to the pressure exerted by the operator, amount of overuse, drills geometry and rotation observed in SEM. Regarding the drill cutting surface temperature, there is a relationship established between the drill material, geometry, type of irrigation, rotational speed, applied load and depth of drilling (AU).

ABSTRACT Dental composites cured at high temperatures show improved properties and higher degrees of conversion; however, there is no information available about the effect of pre-heating on material degradation. Objectives This study evaluated the effect of pre-heating on the degradation of composites, based on the analysis of radiopacity and silver penetration using scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). Material and Methods Thirty specimens were fabricated using a metallic matrix (2x8 mm) and the composites Durafill VS (Heraeus Kulzer), Z-250 (3M/ESPE), and Z-350 (3M/ESPE), cured at 25°C (no pre-heating) or 60°C (pre-heating). Specimens were stored sequentially in the following solutions: 1) water for 7 days (60°C), plus 0.1 N sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for 14 days (60°C); 2) 50% silver nitrate (AgNO3) for 10 days (60°C). Specimens were radiographed at baseline and after each storage time, and the images were evaluated in gray scale. After the storage protocol, samples were analyzed using SEM/EDS to check the depth of silver penetration. Radiopacity and silver penetration data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey’s tests (α=5%). Results Radiopacity levels were as follows: Durafill VS<Z-350<Z-250 (p<0.05). The depth of silver penetration into the composites ranked as follows: Durafill VS>Z-350>Z-250 (p<0.05). After storage in water/NaOH, pre-heated specimens presented higher radiopacity values than non-pre-heated specimens (p<0.05). There was a lower penetration of silver in pre-heated specimens (p<0.05). Conclusions Pre-heating at 60°C mitigated the degradation of composites based on analysis of radiopacity and silver penetration depth.

Objectives To evaluate the microbial contamination of pacifiers by Mutans Streptococci(MS) and the efficacy of different methods for their disinfection. Methods Twenty-eight children were assigned to a 4-stage changeover system with a 1-week interval. In each stage, children received a new pacifier and the parents were instructed to maintain their normal habits for 1 week. After this time, the pacifiers were subjected to the following 4 disinfection methods: spraying with 0.12% chlorhexidine solution, Brushtox® or sterile tap water, and immersion in boiling tap water for 15 minutes. Microbiological culture for MS and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were performed. The results were analyzed statistically by Friedman’s non-parametric test (a=0.05).Results The 0.12% chlorhexidine spray was statistically similar to the boiling water (p>0.05) and more effective than the Brushtox®spray and control (p<0.05). The analysis of SEM showed the formation of a cariogenic biofilm in all groups with positive culture. Conclusions Pacifiers become contaminated by MS after their use by children and should be disinfected routinely. Spraying with a 0.12% chlorhexidine solution and immersion in boiling water promoted better disinfection of the pacifiers compared with a commercial antiseptic toothbrush cleanser (Brushtox®).

Strategies widely used to potentiate the cytotoxic effects of antitumor molecules with the aim of reduce the applied dose and side effects are molecular inclusion and the combination of chemotherapy with hyperthermia. In this thesis, these two strategies were studied, the first molecular inclusion that is widely used to enhance solubility, absorption and availability molecules; and the second, hyperthermia which is a proposal for treatment of cancer where the tumor cells are affected by local temperature elevation and can be associated with chemotherapy to enhance the effects of this technique. For molecular inclusion used to hydroxypropyl--cyclodextrin (HP--CD) to enhance solubility, absorption and availability of erlotinib (ERL), was characterized physico chemically and evaluated the in vitro cytotoxicity and apoptosis, and in vivo inflammatory angiogenesis in Swiss mice. To evaluate the cytotoxic of hyperthermia (heating to 42°C or 43°C for 1h) associated with cisplatin was used triple-negative breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-436, MDA-MB-468 and HCC-1937), cervical cancer cell lines (ME-180 and SiHa) and lung cancer cell lines (A549 and H460).
The longevity of ceramic crowns depends, among other factors, on its fit and the stress distribution. There is no consensus regarding the better fitting of zirconia CAD/CAM made crowns over conventional methods and may be an influence of zirconia sintering shrinkage on the abutment/coping spacing. This study aimed at evaluating the dimensional changes from sintering process of three zirconia blocks trademarks, relating them to the fit of CAD / CAM made zirconia copings, and to evaluate how the fit of such copings could impact on the stress distribution in bilayered Y-TZP based ceramic crowns. The sintering shrinkage of the three trademarks of zirconia was obtained experimentally from the measurement of geometric specimens. Thirty-six zirconia copings made by CAD / CAM were equally divided into three groups (n = 12): ZMAX - from blocks of IPS e.max ZirCAD (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein); ZYZ - InCeram YZ blocks (Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany) and; ZMC - controlled manufacturing zirconia (Zirklein/Biodinamica, Brazil). The copings were scanned in micro-CT before and after the sintering so that dimensional changes from the sintering process were obtained from measurements taken from specific slices. Data from dimensional changes obtained for the geometric specimens and for the copings were faced with the sintering shrinkage rates reported by the manufacturers of zirconia blanks. The sintered copings were settled on a zirconia abutment and taken to the micro-CT scanner to evaluate its marginal and internal fit. Thirty three different points were measured using the Image J software. The data enabled the statistical comparison (p 0,05) between trademarks and measurement sites, as well as the comparison between the fit obtained experimentally with that stipulated by the CAD / CAM software. The micro-CT images of copings with smaller and larger cement space were used to build finite element models to evaluate stress distribution as a function of the abutment...

Objectives: The shape memory resulting from the superelasticity and thermoelastic effect is the main characteristic of thermally activated NiTi archwires and is closely related to the transition temperature range (TTR). The aim of this study was to evaluate the TTR of thermally activated NiTi archwires commercially available. Material and Methods: Seven different brands of 0.019"x0.025" thermally activated nickel-titanium archwires were tested as received by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) over the temperature range from -100°C to 150°C at 10°C/min. Results: All thermally activated NiTi archwires analyzed presented stage transformation during thermal scanning with final austenitic temperature (Af) ranging from 20.39°C to 45.42°C. Three brands of NiTi archwires presented Af close to the room temperature and, this way, do not present properties of shape memory and pseudoelasticity that are desirable in clinical applications. Conclusions: The thermally activated NiTi archwires present great variability in the TTR and the elastic parameters of each NiTi archwire should be provided by the manufacturers, to allow achievement of the best clinical performance possible. .

This study aimed to evaluate the temperature variation in the vestibular surface of teeth and inside their pulp chamber generated by different protocols in office whitening. A human upper canine was sectioned below the enamel-cement junction and had the interior of its chamber enlarged to receive a thermally conductive paste and the sensor of type K digital thermometer. The temperature measurement was performed on the vestibular surface with infrared digital thermometer with laser-sights. The protocols in tooth whitening selected were distributed in twelve experimental groups, varying the light activation: light hybrid LED and laser diode (UltraBlue IV© - DMC), halogen light (Spectrum Curing Light©, Dentsply Caulk) and ultraviolet (Zoom! Lamp© - Discus Dental), and treatments: no bleaching gel, Lase Peroxide© (DMC), Whiteness HP Maxx© (FGM), and Whiteness HP© (FGM). Results were subjected to variance analysis 2 way (ANOVA) and Tukey test (p≤0.05). The highest elevations of temperature (5øC) inside the pulp chamber were observed in the groups activated with ultraviolet light without the use of gel and Whiteness HP Maxx©. The light hybrid showed a smaller increase in temperature (from 1.7 to 2øC). On the facial surface, the Zoom! Lamp also induced the largest increase statistically significant in relation to others. Both the bleaching gel and light activation were relevant to the temperature increase inside the pulp chamber. In vestibular surface temperature increase occurred by light activation, regardless the used gel.

The aim of this study was to evaluate if the variation of the sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) temperature and pH increase its antibacterial and dissolution abilities. It was also evaluated if the chitosan nanoparticles (CNPs) inhibit the bacterial growth and remove smear layer. Two hundred-sixty bovine dentin blocks were infected intraorally. The experimental solutions were 1% and 2.5% NaOCl at room temperature and 37oC. the solution was acidified at pH 5 and 7. The exposure times were 5 and 20 min. The specimens were analyzed pre- (control) and postirrigation. After that, the samples were incubated in BHI and analyzed again to evaluate the bacterial recolonization. These procedures were performed in duplicate to access the percentage of dentinal cleaning. The samples were rinsed with a final irrigation of CNPs and analyzed immediately to determine the chelating effect, or infected intraorally to evaluate its antibacterial ability. NaOCl showed antibacterial power and was able to significantly dissolve the biofilm regardless its temperature. NaOCl at acid pHs showed great antibacterial properties, however its dissolution ability decreased. The CNPs were able to remove significantly the smear layer and interfere with the bacterial growth on dentin. Therefore, the NaOCl temperature is not relevant when the solution was tested on multi-specie biofilms. The antibacterial power of NaOCl was inversely proportional to its pH, while its dissolution capacity was directly proportional. CNPs could be an alternative instead of EDTA due to its chelating properties and ability to interfere with the earlier bacterial adhesion on dentin.

Monolithic zirconia ceramics for crown and bridge applications were designed to eliminate chipping trends of bilayered restorations, providing both aesthetic and mechanical strength. Nonetheless, it has been suggested that improvements in optical properties may affect the mechanical strength of these materials. The present study aimed to compare, based on a microstructural analysis, the mechanical behavior of two commercial monolithic zirconia ceramics with a conventional core zirconia material, as well as to verify sintering parameters modifications. Two monolithic zirconia ceramics (Ceramill Zolid and Prettau) and a conventional core zirconia material (IPS e.max ZirCAD) were sintered according to manufacturer´s recommendations, forming groups Z1450, P1600 and I1530. Extra groups, Z1530 and Z1600, were originated from ceramill Zolid zirconia specimens subjected to modified sintering cycles. The thirteen specimens that were manufactured for each group were submitted to x-ray diffraction analysis, density, average grain size determination and 4-point-bending tests. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of tetragonal metastable phase in all groups before and after sintering. Relative density found for Prettau and IPS e.max ZirCAD were greater than 99%. The average grain size remained below 1m for all groups. P1600 showed the largest grain sizes (0,814m) while Z1450 (0,463m) demonstrated the smallest ones. Groups originated from ceramill Zolid also presented the lowest Weibull modulus (m=4,58 for Z1530) and flexural strength results (621,01±138,08MPa for Z1450), regardless of non significant improvements that were achieved when using a low heating rate protocol. Prettau zirconia showed better mechanical behaviour and a more homogeneous distribution of results (864,18±118,21MPa), although lower than those of IPS e.max ZirCAD zirconia (1057,41±150,54MPa). Findings from this study show that the two commercial monolithic zircônia...

Among the non-invasive techniques employed in the prevention of caries highlights the sealing pits and fissures which is a conservative maneuver, in order to obliterate them to protect them from attack acid bacteria. Influenced by the studies of pre-heating composite resin, which has experienced great improvement in some of their physical properties, this study aimed to evaluate in vitro the superficial and internal marginal adaptation of different materials and sealants in pre-heating or not. A total of 40 extracted human third molars (n=10) that had their occlusal surfaces prepared to receive sealant. We tested two types of sealing materials: resin sealant (Fluoroshield) and low-viscosity resin (Permaflo), where 50% of previously received heated material and the other half received sealant material at room temperature. All samples were subjected to thermal cycling and pH, simulating a cariogenic oral environment, and later were analyzed appliance OCT (optical coherence tomography). The images obtained alterations were recorded and analyzed statistically. Change was considered as the emergence of bubbles, gaps and cracks in the sealant. Comparisons of the same material, assessing the fact that it is not sealed or preheated material, as well as comparisons between different materials subjected to the same temperature were carried out. The nonparametric Tukey test was used (p < 0,05). The results showed that there was statistically significant difference between both the materials analyzed, as between the situations in which the sealant material was submitted (preheated or not). On the issue of marginal adaptation and internal surface, seen through Optical coherence tomography, may suggest that there is a difference between the use of one type or another of the sealing material analyzed, with superiority attributed to resin Permaflo compared to sealant Fluroshield, telling is the same for the different techniques used. Introduction: Dental bleaching is a conservative method for the aesthetic restoration of stained teeth. However, whitening treatments are likely to cause adverse effects when not well planned and executed. Objective: This study evaluated the influence of whitening gel on temperature rise in the pulp chamber, using the in-office photoactivated dental bleaching technique. Material and Method: The root portion of an upper central human incisor was sectioned 3mm below the cemento-enamel junction. The root canal was enlarged to permit the insertion of the K-type thermocouple sensor (MT-401) into the pulp chamber, which was filled with thermal paste to facilitate the transfer of heat during bleaching. Three photosensitive whitening agents (35% hydrogen peroxide) were used: Whiteness HP (FGM), Whiteness HP Maxx (FGM) and Lase Peroxide Sensy (DMC). An LED photocuring light (Flash Lite - Discus Dental) was used to activate the whitening gels. Six bleaching cycles were performed on each group tested. The results were submitted to one-way ANOVA and LSD t-test ((α≤0,05). Result: The lowest mean temperature variation (ºC) was detected for Lase Peroxide Sensy (0.20), while the highest was recorded for Whiteness HP (1.50). Conclusion: The Whiteness HP and Whiteness HP Maxx whitening gels significantly affected the temperature rise in the pulp chamber during bleaching, and this variation was dependent on the type of whitening gel used.

Objective: This study evaluated the effect of the margin location and an adhesive system on the marginal adaptation of composite restorations. Material and Methods: Class V cavities were prepared in bovine teeth with the gingival margin on the dentin and the incisal margin on the enamel. The cavities were restored with a micro-hybrid composite resin using an etch-and-rinse [Single Bond 2 (SB)] or a self-etching adhesive [Clearfil SE Bond (CL)]. After finishing and polishing the restorations, epoxy replicas were prepared. The marginal adaptation was analyzed using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM, 500 x magnification). The higher gap width in each margin was recorded (T0). After the first evaluation, the samples were submitted to thermal cycling (2,000 cycles of 5°C±2°C followed by 55°C±2°C T1) and mechanical cycling (100,000 cycles of 50 kN and 2 Hz T2). Replicas of samples were rebuilt after each cycling and analyzed under SEM. The data were submitted to Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon and Friedman testing (á=0.05). Results: The SB presented higher gaps in the dentin than the enamel, while there was no difference between the substrate for the CL. In the dentin, the CL showed better marginal sealing than the SB. The opposite occurred in the enamel. There were no significant differences between the baseline, thermal and mechanical cycling for any experimental condition. Conclusions: The outcomes of the present study showed that the adhesive system and margin location have an important effect on the marginal adaptation of composite restorations.

The aim of this study was to quantify Candida albicans biofilm formation and evaluate the surface integrity of an denture base resin treated with liquid-polish Biscover LV (Bisco, Schaumburg, USA) and Surface Coat (Kuraray, Tokyo, Japan), after 30 and 90 cycles of chemical disinfection. A total of 280 specimens (10 x 10 x 2 mm) were prepared, sterilized and randomly divided into 20 groups (n = 14), according to the type of polishing (mechanical 0.3 or 3 m, Surface Coat and Biscover LV), number of cycles tested (0, 30, 90) and the solution used: none (negative-control), 1% sodium hypochlorite (experimental) and distilled water (positive-control). After exposure to the respective solutions according to the protocol adopted, the samples were immersed in artificial saliva for 2 h to form the acquired salivary pellicle and then inoculated with 2 mL of C. albicans (1.107 cel / mL) for 90 min to adhesion. After this, samples were washed and immersed in TSB for 24 h to biofilm growth at 37°C. For biofilm quantification, the method of crystal violet staining was used in 240 specimens, divided into 20 groups of 12 samples each. This analysis was performed by a spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 595 nm by measuring the level of supernatants absorbance obtained after the biofilms stain release. For qualitative analysis of the integrity of the liquid-polish layer, two samples from each group (one colonized and one not) had their surfaces photographed in six different fields through the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results were submitted to ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (p<0.05). Comparing the types of surface treatments evaluated, within the same time and tested solutions, can not be noted statistically significant difference between groups of 0.3 m and Biscover LV or 3 m and Surface Coat. But when comparing the groups of 0.3 m and Biscover LV to groups of 3 mm and Surface Coat, there was a statistically significant difference...

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the effect of ultrasound (US) application in the production of heat at the surface and inside the glass ionomer cement (GIC) Ketac Molar Easymix, as well the temperature transmitted to the pulp chamber through restorations of Ketac Molar Easymix (K) and Vitremer (V) after ultrasound application. For evaluation of the internal and surface temperature was made a matrix of one bovine incisor. The surface temperature was measured in the control group (STC) and the experimental group (STU) through an infrared thermographic camera, calibrated and fixed for 15 cm of the specimen, which raised the temperature variations for 80s. In order to measure the temperature inside the material, a nylon cannula was inserted through opening of the root canal bovine tooth until the interior of the GIC inserted into the array, which was adapted an portable digital thermometer. After US for 45s, in the control group (ITC) and experimental group (ITU), the internal temperature was measured at 0, 45, and 120s, totaling 2 minutes after material insertion in the cavity. The temperature transmitted to the pulp chamber during the application of ultrasound for 45s was evaluated in 48 human premolars, which had their apices disconnected to remove the pulp, replaced by a heat-conductive paste. They were divided into groups: control (KC), experimental (KU), control (VC) and experimental (VU). After performing of the restorations on the vestibular surface of the teeth, they received the ultrasound application for 45s and photopolymerization for 40s for the group VU. Through the opening of the root canal tooth, a thermistor was inserted until contact with the inner wall of the vestibular surface, allowing the collection of temperature variations. After verification of normality in the STC, STU, ITC, ITU groups, by means of SPSS 17.0 software was used ANOVA followed by Tukey test. There was significant increase of 2.7 º C in the temperature inside the TIU group. As the surface temperature there was no difference between the TSU and TSC groups. To evaluate the KC, KU, VC and VU groups linear regression was used to describe the relationship of temperature in function of submission time to the US and photopolymerization. KU and VU groups had average increases in 3.6 ° C and 2.8° C temperature, respectively. It was also observed for these groups increase in 0.07 ° C / s and 0.06 ° C / s temperature respectively after the beginning of the 10s US. The application of photopolymerization in VU did not improve temperature, but kept the heat achieved by US applying. For the control groups of both materials was observed there was no statistically significant in temperature increase. There was no statistical difference between the thickness of premolars enamel and dentin
