RESUMO
The office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, charged with implementing most stationary source regulations under the Clean Air Act, has used the Toxics Release Inventory for many purposes, most recently as a focal point for the newly amended clean air act. The staff have also employed the TRI to identify industry sectors that need additional regulation and guidance and to choose corporation to work with to voluntarily reduce emission levels.(AU)

As air quality regulations become more demanding, geographic information system (GIS) technology presents itself as a valuable tool. GIS can aid in managing and analyzing the large amounts of data generated by environmental managers. A PC-based system, pcAIR-1, has been developed which combines GIS, air dispersion models, and industrial data bases into a desktop air toxics management package (AU)
