RESUMO
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is taught widely to both lay persons and health care workers. It is a challenging psychomotor skill. Concerns about its safety to the rescuer have centered around the risk of infectious disease exposure. A young nursing assistant developed a minimally symptomatic pneumothorax during CPR training. This case is the first reported example of this complication for a CPR trainee or provider. The literature is reviewed for complications for CPR provider and recipient and the relevant issues regarding the current status and future direction of this intervention (AU)

El aislamiento de la vía aérea es uno de los puntos fundamentales cuando realizamos la secuencia de pasos que integran la reanimación cardiopulmonar de un paciente. Si bien a veces hasta con unas simples maniobras para mantener expedito el paso del aire hasta traquea, en otras ocasiones va a ser precisa la ayuda de algún dispositivo que no solo nos permita el acceso directo a ésta, sino además, la posibilidad de aportar ventilación a traves del mismo (AU)

Durante el inicio de las medidas de RCP, el tratamiento farmacológico de la PCR tiene un papel secundario. Una vez asegurada la permeabilidad de la vía aérea y la ventilación y cuando se hayan puesto en marcha las medidas para instaurar una circulación eficáz, el ejemplo de fármacos (paso D) adquiere un papel de protagonista junto con el mantenimiento del restos de las medidas de RCP (AU)

Resuscitation potentials have documented for everyday emergency medical services, multicasualty incident type disasters, and conventional wars. Resuscitation potentials in mass disasters, like major earthquakes, are highly suspect; for nuclear power plant accidents are unknown but must be prepared for; and for nuclear war are zero. Modelling studies are needed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness for resuscitative preparedness for major industrial disaster, earthquakes, volcanic explosions, floods, storms, major fires and other mass disasters. Resuscitation medicine, if applied with reason and compassion, by trying to achieve useful survival for as amny victims as possible, should be considered not only on the basis of numerical results, but also for its philosophical impact.
