Organización del sistema educativo como formadores de conciencias, por cuanto trasciende lo informativo e institucional y se instala en el proceso de desarrollo de los individuos y las sociedades. Para el diseño de escuelas seguras se debe analizar la situación del conjunto educativo disponible y las posibilidades de readaptarlo a la luz de nuevos conocimientos y propuestas. Para lograr estos propósitos es importante tener claros tres puntos de vista, los cuales se comentan en esta mesa de trabajo: 1.La planificación del desarrollo de la planta física educativa, 2.La adopción de tecnologías innovadoras para su concepción, instalación, monitoreo y control. 3.La educación para crear una Cultura de la Prevención en todos los actores

Se hace una relación entre la vigilancia en salud pública (VSP) y la epidemiología. La vigilancia en salud pública es vista como herramienta para identificar los problemas en un área determinada, establecer las prioridades para quienes toman decisiones y evaluar la efectividad de las actividades realizadas. Se encuentran definiciones de la VSP y su uso en la planeación, implementación y evaluación de los programas de salud pública. Incluye información sobre el ciclo de la vigilancia en salud pública, las características de los métodos de recolección de datos en escenarios de desastre y los pasos en la planificación del sistema de vigilancia. Se refiere también a los problemas metodológicos como la evaluación y la vigilancia post-desastre e incluye ejemplos seleccionados de estrategias y métodos que incluyen la planificación, la evaluación epidemiológica rápida, vigilancia activa que usa servicios médicos existentes y temporales, vigilancia centinela, investigación de rumores, investigaciones por conglomerados para estimar las necesidades de los servicios de salud. Finalmente incluye recomendaciones para mejorar la eficiencia de la VSP en todas las fases del desastre

The increase in population and urbanization has necessitated the monitoring of hazards to the environment. The Ministry of Environment and Parliamentary Affairs of Sri Lanka had identified the need to execute a survey of environment pollution related projects to create a database. The present work comprises of the collection of pollution related data from projects in Sri Lanka and the construction of a database for the effective storage, retrieval and presentation of such information. A survey was carried out by development of a questionnaire identifying the key areas relevant and adequate to achieve the ministry needs. Data sources were identified and data collectors were assigned after training. The developed database is founded on information from actual projects exceeding two hundred and collected from over fifty contacted resource personnel and/or organizations. The developed database provides information pertaining to the current projects and interests, the available information and their sources, and the contact of current practitioners related to the pollution hazard management of the natural environment. The database would certainly help a developing country like Sri Lanka to avoid executing expensive project activities. Therefore the present database would initiate steps to create an environment to disseminate the information not only to managers but also to a much wider audience. The database technology provides such facilities to enhance the much needed optimum utilization of available resources efficiently and effectively for the benefit of a developing country like Sri Lanka

Data aggregation and dissemination are vital for risk management and environmental monitoring. Providing access to a GIS via Internet can efficiently fulfill the aforesaid tasks. The present paper describes the salient features of an online GIS that was developed and implemented on a lowcost personal computer. The software components used in the online system are available entirely in public domain. The system is based on a Client/Server model and consists of three main components namely data gathering module, data analysis module and the data visualization module. Various functions of these modules can be remotely accessed using Web browser software that has become to be widely available. Applicability of the system is demonstrated using groundwater data as an example. The system's ability to generate data, analyze and visualize spatial information remotely over a network is a major step towards encouraging public-participation and providing spatial information to both hazard risk managers and the general public. It is hoped that with the increasing availability of spatial information, online GIS will enhance our ability to mitigate hazard risk and promote environmental awareness
