The historical investigation applied to natural hazard studies in Colombia are guite numerous nad started some 50m years ago with the first papers written by father Jesús Emilio Ramírez. His most relevant contribution is the well known Historia de los terremotos en Colombia (1975). During the last 15 years Colombia has been shaket by several natural disaster. As a result, natural hazard studies has been undertaken and in most the them the historical part has turned out to be verry important. Sources of information, covering the last 500 years, have appeared to be verry good in terms of quality and amount of data. This paper describes the different steps followed by the historical studies applied to natural phenomena in Colombia since the spanish colonial period and analyses the present state of the works. For all communities involved in floodplain management, educating and informing citizens about the inherent risks associated with living and working in a floodplain is a never-ending task. Striving to develop new ways to communicate and make the message more meaningful is challenging. Some people contend that a flood will not happen in Boulder, Colorado, even through this community has the highest potential for loss of life due to a flash flood in the entire state

The following presentation deals with the masonry hauses in historical towns, regarding them with the aim to understand their constructive actuality and to point our the most suitable way of mechanical modeling. The research is not at its conclusion and only the main steps of its development can be illustrated toghether with some partial results, nevertheless both the approach to the constructive analysis and the modeling proposal are worth, in our opinion, to be presented and discussed, The first of them, as it will be illustrated, shows the peculiar feature of the masonry work present in historical tows in Italy and in large part of western area. From such peculiarity the second item derives a consequent way to model, from a mechanical point of view, such masonry walls (AU)
