Efectos de la terapia con ventosas en pacientes con dolor lumbar / Effects of cupping therapy in patients with low back pain

Introducción: El dolor lumbar es uno de los síntomas referidos con mayor frecuencia en la consulta médica, siendo un factor limitante en las actividades de la vida diaria y la actividad laboral. Las nuevas terapias, como el tratamiento con ventosas, parece aportar resultados prometedores al manejo del dolor lumbar. Objetivo: Evaluar la evidencia científica acerca de los efectos de la aplicación de terapia con ventosas en pacientes con dolor lumbar. Material y Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en PubMed, Medline, Cinhal, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro y Cochrane con los términos “Cupping Therapy” y “Low Back Pain” y la palabra clave “Cupping Therapy”. Resultados: Se incluyeron 10 artículos que usaban la terapia con ventosas para el tratamiento de la lumbalgia, centrándose en las escalas de dolor y discapacidad y obteniendo resultados significativos beneficiosos. Conclusión: La terapia con ventosas parece disminuir el dolor y la discapacidad en pacientes con lumbalgia. (AU)

Introduction: Low back pain is one of the most frequently referred symptoms in medical consultation, being a limiting factor in activities of daily living and work activity. New therapies, such as cupping, seem to bring promising results in the management of low back pain. Objective: To evaluate the scientific evidence on the effects of the application of cupping therapy in patients with low back pain. Material and Methods: A literature search was carried out in PubMed, Medline, Cinhal, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro and Cochrane with the terms “Cupping Therapy” and “Low Back Pain” and the keyword “Cupping Therapy”. Results: 10 articles using cupping therapy for the treatment of low back pain were included, focusing on pain and disability scales and obtaining significant beneficial results. Conclusion: Cupping therapy appears to reduce pain and disability in patients with low back pain. (AU)

Antibacterial activity of Citrus hystrix toward Salmonella spp. infection / Actividad antibacteriana de Citrus hystrix frente a la infección por Salmonella spp

Introduction: Citrus hystrix is widely used by Indonesians as a traditional medicine for gastrointestinal diseases, including Salmonella spp. infection. We investigated the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic peel extract of C. hystrix against Salmonella typhimurium. Methods: The antibacterial activity was evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extract was determined at a concentration of 0.625% by agar dilution assay. Later, the in vivo antibacterial activity was examined by the administration of 16mg of the extract daily for three consecutive days in a mouse model infected with S. typhimurium. Results: The bacterial loads of S. typhimurium in the ileum, liver, and spleen decreased after 24h of administration of the extract (p=0.00008, p=0.00084, and p=0.00003, respectively). Conclusion: The ethanolic peel extract of C. hystrix shows antibacterial activity against S. typhimurium, indicating the potential of C. hystrix as an effective treatment for Salmonella spp. infection.(AU)

Introducción: El Citrus hystrix es muy utilizado por los indonesios como medicina tradicional para las enfermedades gastrointestinales, incluida la infección por Salmonella spp. Investigamos la actividad antibacteriana del extracto etanólico de piel de C. hystrix frente a Salmonella typhimurium. Métodos: La actividad antibacteriana se evaluó tanto in vitro como in vivo. La concentración mínima inhibitoria (CMI) del extracto se determinó a una concentración del 0,625% mediante un ensayo de dilución en agar. Posteriormente, se evaluó la actividad antibacteriana in vivo mediante la administración de 16mg de extracto de forma diaria durante 3 días consecutivos en un modelo murino infectado con S. typhimurium. Resultados: La carga bacteriana de S. typhimurium en el íleo, el hígado y el bazo se redujo 24h después de la administración del extracto (p=0,00008, p=0,00084 y p=0,00003, respectivamente). Conclusión: El extracto etanólico de piel de C. hystrix muestra actividad antibacteriana frente a S. typhimurium, lo que indica el potencial de C. hystrix como tratamiento eficaz para la infección por Salmonella spp.(AU)

La palabra "sanación", igual que el concepto cuidar, se ha popularizado de tal manera que es difícil acotar sus significados. Este trabajo pretende seguir el modelo e hilo conductor de Hernández Madrid por ser el más clarificador a la hora de entender por qué, ahora, determinadas teóricas enfermeras comunican sus nuevas investigaciones ligadas a sus trabajos de introspección pero, como veremos más adelante, resultan poco prácticas en su aplicación real, al menos en el mundo sanitario español(AU)

The word "sanitation", similar to the concept care for, has become popularized in such a way that it is difficult to determine its meanings. This article hopes to follow the Hernández Madrid model and guidelines since this is the clearest one available when one tries to understand the reason why, at present times, certain nursing theories communicate their new research tied to their introspection projects but, as we shall see shortly, prove to be of little practical use with real patients, at least in the Spanish sanitary World(AU)
