RESUMO

Objective: to know the Brazilian scientific production on racism in the nursing profession. Method: an integrative literature review was carried out in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online, Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences, Portal Periodicals of the Commission for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel and Google Scholar. The following descriptors were used: racism, nursing, nurses and nurses, with the Booleans AND and OR, and without temporal demarcation. Results: 18 articles were selected in Portuguese, published between 1997 and 2018. Racism appears in the profession since its beginnings, in its training and in the professional market, being approached through a historical perspective, capable of pointing out the black woman as your main target. In recent years, there has been greater academic production on the subject, which has become a way of confronting racism. Final thoughts: academic production on racism in the nursing profession is scarce. There is a silence on the subject that makes it difficult to debate, as well as ways to face this type of violence in the profession. The theoretical-conceptual appropriation of the theme by nursing students and professionals is urgent so that it occupies a relevant place in the scientific literature.(AU)

This article analyses, from the link between psychiatry and anthropology, how an organicist discourse capable of legitimizing both, nazi extermination and eugenic policies in democratic countries, was consolidated. We depart from 19th century theory of degeneration and contrast the ethnic and racial facet of Arthur de Gobineau with the alienist facet of Benedict Morel, until reaching the synthesis of Cesare Lombroso. We highlight the link that Emil Kraepelin established between the “degeneration” of individuals and that of races, pointing out to the Jews, as determinative in the scientific consolidation of Rassenhygiene in which Adolf Hitler based its Mein Kampf. We stress the justification for “destroying life unworthy of live”, that emerged from the assemblage between psychiatry and justice, as determinant in the Third Reich transition between forced sterilization and extermination. We approach the forced Euthanasia Program through the important political role of Ernst Rüdin, Kraepelin’s successor and founder of genetic psychiatry. We conclude that National Socialism took to its maximum expression the logic of death inscribed in the theory of degeneration. Finally, after a reflection on post-war reactions and alternatives, we highlight the contemporary persistence of both biological determinism and legal inequality that marked the fate of the first victims of nazi extermination.(AU)

The Spanish flu pandemic that took place between 1918 and 1920 has been studied from various perspectives. However, there are social effects of the pandemic that have not yet been sufficiently explored. The stigmatization and discrimination of certain ethnically significant groups such as gypsies were the product of the prophylactic measures applied to stop the spread of the virus. The circulation and presence of the Roma communities served as an argument to explain some social and health problems. Through the specific study of the province of Biscay, this article aims to analyze the social dimension of the conflict and, at the same time, study the situation of these Roma communities in this health crisis. During the pandemic, discourses and practices aimed at controlling these ethnic groups were generated. These have historically had complex relationships with government regulations.(AU)

The moments in the Workshop were essential to allow collective discussions about the presentations, the structure of the university that (re)produces racism, self-esteem and the feeling of belonging of black students. The activity of the Turban can be analyzed with a moment, even if brief, in favor of the rescue of ancestry, delving into the aspect of blackness, with the intention of valuing culture and ethnic-racial identity. In addition, this action contributed seeks to contribute to the debate on ethnic-racial issues and the praxis of occupational therapy.(AU)

(AU)

We present the articles published in the dossier Psychology, Racism and Anti-Racism –Part 2. References to racial issues have gained space in the field of Psychology and the perspectives on racial issues in this science are often present as specific aspects of critical theories, but depending on the “place” that such perspectives occupy within these theories, the impacts, and criticisms for Psychology itself gain dimensions that point to punctual inclusions of some categories or to broader and more structural revisions of this field of knowledge. The articles published in this dossier contribute to questioning Psychology that throughout history has con-tributed to the reproduction of racism, articulated with other oppressions and violence, and point out ways of change in the area and reveal the need for an anti-racist turn in Psychology.

(AU)

The goal of this article is to present the main approaches through which classical North Amer-ican social psychology has theorized about racial prejudice, racism and antiracism, and on that basis present critical whiteness studies as possibilities to overcome the limits identified within these approaches, which presents us either with individuals outside the structure, or with a structure with no individuals. For that purpose, in this article we identify three main ap-proaches in North American social psychology: implicit association test; intergroup contact theory and aversive racism; and specific emotions. On that basis we show how critical white-ness studies may be presented as a synthesis between these two extremes, which oscillates between the individual and the structure. In this perspective, the structure is manifested in the individual’s subjective experience in the world, and thus identifiable in one’s own experi-ential field. (AU)

(AU)

Social research has identified racism and homophobia as two of the great challenges for con-temporary societies. The syndrome of group focused enmity (SGE) and homonationalism repre-sent two apparently opposite concepts in understanding the relationship between racism and homophobia. In this article we analyse this relationship considering the values of the popula-tion of Austria, France, Spain, and the Netherlands, based on data from the European Values Study 2017. We use the method of structural and articulated typology, with analysis of corre-spondences and classification analysis. Our results lead us to partially confirm the adequacy of both SEG and homonationalism to explain the relationship between racism and homophobia. On the one hand, racism was higher than homophobia in all groups. On the other hand, we ob-tained a moderately racist and slightly homophobic group, another racist and homophobic group and only in a very minority group tendencies towards a genuinely inclusive society were visualized.

(AU)

We discuss the critical complexities of what the Martinican psychiatrist Frantz Fanon defined as the zone of non-being in his study Black Skin, White Masksfrom 1952. In a first moment, we stop at the main exegetical nuclei of the zone of non-being that are linked to the limit expe-rience of the black body alluded to by Fanon. We verify in a second moment how what the au-thor defines under the name of sociogeny is connected with an existential historical analysis of the racialized body. The analysis of the “double narcissism” and the epidermalization pro-cesses made explicit by Fanon allow us to conclude, in a third moment, that the zone of non-being enhances the decolonial interrogation of an epidermized body about racism and binary distributions of identity.

(AU)

An individual's set of knowledge, skills, principles and values to carry out his medical work well serves to strengthen the unfolding in a community. The film the African physician (2016) of Julien Rambaldi, has as its main theme the effort and attitudes of the Congolese doctor Zantoko and how he faces the fear racism of the habitans of rural village Marly-Gomont on the seventies. The film shows an isolated French community, who had never seen black people; places us with Zantoko's family in the context of the community, which allows us to understand the fundamental point that may have served as practical and necessary tools for the work of the community doctor. It invites us to reflect on the difficulties that may occur in the face of the lack of knowledge needed to serve a community and ignorance of it. It is an excellent film for teaching and learning topics related to the work of health professionals at the population/local level. (AU)

In this article, we propose a discussion about the field of Psychology involving mental health and ethnic-racial issues, complemented by the debate on the education of ethnic-racial relations. The National Policy for Comprehensive Health of the Black Population recognizes structural racism and ethnic-racial inequalities as social determinants of health conditions. The literature review anchored by the theoretical-methodological framework of race, racism and an-ti-racism, as well as critical discourse analysis, they have brought to the fore, debates and conflicts regarding the black population in contemporary societies, especially in Brazil. We conclude that we must invest and insist on epistemological cultures in the field of Psychology and its practices that promote advances in debates about the effects of racism on the mental health of the black population, aiming at promoting health, racial equity and combating racism.(AU)

RESUMO

In this autoethnographic essay I share some reflections appealing to the tensions and contradictions of interculturality or the intercultural model and its materialization in educational policies and practices. Through a constructive-interpretative analysis, I dialogue with some researchers, academics and/or activists’ work, I analyze an institutional document that is representative of theeducational community of Catalonia and I write from a triple position as a researcher, counselor and learner who has gone through the educational system being la china. Throughout the text, I discuss the predominance of Eurocentric thinking, its language and its institutionalized practice in both education and academia. Likewise, I appeal to a placeof epistemic theorization and political-practical application that continues to exclude the nonwhite population. This contribution aims to visibilize of some expressions of institutional racism in education, in order to make it a matter of reflection and discussion for the educational and research community.(AU)

Decolonial perspectives understand that universities act as colonialist institutions, therefore those spaces are fertile locus for researching the experience of subjects who escape eurocen-tric ideal. This article analyzes the processes of subjectivity, suffering and resistance that permeate the trajectories of four black graduate and postgraduate students at the University of Brasilia, belonging to different black collectives. This research was inspired by qualitative epistemology and the constructive-interpretative method, and emphasizes the collaborative relationship in the production of knowledge. In the meetings between researcher and research subjects, two semi-structured interviews were carried out and they generated the following indicators: (1) racialization (critic), (2) shock and suffering when entering the University, (3) academic marronage, and (4) black epistemologies, which point to the centrality of black col-lectives in their trajectories, mediating suffering and strengthening. In common, the frictions brought subjective (re) configurations and academic marronage was synonymous with survival and mental health.(AU)

Chile diversified the migrant population, starting with the arrival of people from Latin Ameri-ca. This, still far from being statistically significant, has generated a proliferation of negative social imaginaries, institutionally consolidated through restrictive approaches towards certain foreign groups.Institutional racism is reflected in policies and practices, placing migrant bodies in positions of inequality. Through qualitative research carried out in the XI region of Aysén (Chile), and through an intersectional analysis, we present the ways in which different inequalities —such as national origin, class and gender are articulated —in access and care in public health. The results show the existence of institutional racist practices and the imaginaries of “otherness”; the ways in which institutional racism operates based on explicit discrimination; and the agen-cies and resistance carried out by racialized people.(AU)

Based on the experiences of black women, we problematize theoretical and methodological aspects of the production of scientific knowledge in psychology, in order to face gendered racism and epistemicide. We take as an analytical basis two researches in which the experiences of black diasporic women are central to understanding the dynamics of oppression. We argue against theoretical and methodological models based on a scientific rationality that produces a universalizing humanity with a Eurocentric matrix, which is based on colonized, exclusionary and genocidal notions. knowledge production. We share with the dialogue and articulation of black and decolonial voices, other possible paths for psi scientific praxis in which marginalized bodies, voices and writings act as beacons to lead quizumbas and chaos that foster criticality, creativity and new theoretical and methodological insurgencies, aiming at transform science in order to destroy its walls and build new bridges.(AU)

(AU)

The expression of prejudice in recent years is more covert than overt. Such covert expression seeks to maintain social exclusions on the basis of race, class and gender. Some of the reasons that justify them respond to democratic contexts and the successive demands for the rights of native peoples in Latin America. In this context, the objective of this article is to comprehen-sively analyse the experiences of overt and subtle prejudices of mapuche women in Chile, through which these women create anti-racist, anti-classist and anti-patriarchal struggles. Through a multi-site ethnography, with in-depth interviews, we report on the experiences of 20 women from the Metropolitan, Biobío, La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions. The results show that overt racism and hidden prejudices coexist and vary according to women’s social conditions. (AU)

(AU)

In this work we carry out a genealogical journey of race and racism, through the research of Michel Foucault on biopower and biopolitics and Achille Mbembe on the birth of negro and Af-rica in the 17th century European discourse. We assume that race is not a biological or cultur-al reality, but a political invention. The philosophe Cameroonian shows that the black condi-tion was matrix for capitalism to consolidate itself as a hegemonic system and that, in the contemporary, it is the maintenance of this condition that updates our colonization. In this sense, we would like to problematize the race through history, explain its necropolitical use and its subjectivating and desiring dimension to advance the debate with the question that we believe helps in the construction of a psychology that is intended to be anti-racist: what are possible ways to combat subjective colonization?

(AU)

The goal of this article is to decentralize Jacques Lacan’s text through a geopolitical perspec-tive that intends to make itself the one that interprets, since the author emphasizes the im-portance of the analyst seeking, on the scope of the analyst’s praxis, the subjectivity of the analyst’s time, implying that defining a position in which the analyst isn’t neutral before the racist tendencies and the ways that one’s time dominant discourse influences overthe uncon-scious. In a historical background scarred by late abolition of slavery, imprisonment and geno-cide of the black population, and a diversity of segregationist practices, as it is in Brazil, it is crucial to take racism as a category in the psychoanalysis view in its clinical and political field. Therefore, we intend to identify some premises to initiate a dismantling of dominant theori-cal artifacts, to go in the direction of a new epistemic framework, grounding an antiracist clinical practice.

(AU)

The objective of this study is to describe, based on a bibliographic review, three thematic lines with decolonial perspectives about some debates between the mad movement and anti-racist movements. The first line critically addresses the reproduction of racism in the histori-cal and hegemonic definition of “mental health” and “mental illness”. The second line analyz-es the invisibility of racist and colonialist logics within the Mad movement itself, in the pro-cesses of construction of identities and subjects. The third presents debates on the use of the term “decolonization” within the same movement. The conclusion of the analysis is that, due to the historical distance that has marked the articulation between both movements, it is necessary to rethink the possibilities, identities and theoretical frameworks of common resistance.
