Emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression or somatization are the most frequent in the world’s population. In the specific case of anxiety and somatoform disorders, the incidence is 11% and 12%, respectively. The relationship between the two disorders has been extensively studied, showing the existence of a bidirectional relationship between them. However, the mechanisms that explain this interrelationship still require further study. The aim of the present work is to study the mediating role of adaptive and maladaptive cognitive strategies of emotional regulation in the relationship between anxiety and somatic symptoms. For this purpose, a sample of 1,730 Spanish participants was used. The sample was collected through online surveys within a cross-sectional observational design. In order to analyze the data collected, correlational analyses of the variables involved, as well as three multivariate mediation models between anxiety symptoms (generalized anxiety, cognitive-affective anxiety or somatic anxiety), adaptive and maladaptive cognitive strategies of emotional regulation, and somatic symptoms are proposed. Results show that maladaptive emotional regulation strategies play a mediating role only between somatic-type anxiety and somatic symptoms, whereas this effect was not observed between generalized anxiety and cognitive anxiety symptoms. Clinical implications for addressing anxiety disorders and somatization are discussed.(AU)

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the effect of sports regulation on the psychological state of English students. The author administered the experimental method and SCL-90 symptom assessment to 461 students in a regional normal school. By gathering data from students at various stages of the experiment, psychological trends and emotional shifts were identified promptly to improve experimental outcomes. The questionnaire data and test results were processed and analyzed using SPSS and other statistical software. The study results indicate that the sports intervention is viable and effective in boosting pupils' mental health. To effectively protect students' physical and mental health development, colleges and universities should strengthen the publicity and construction work in this area, let students realize the true significance of sports, and encourage students to engage in sports and form healthy sports habits actively. In addition, it provides techniques and recommendations for enhancing mental health education to enhance the mental health of students at this school effectively.(AU)

RESUMO

This paper examines the relationship between college students' mental health and physical exercise, analyzes the beneficial effect of physical exercise on mental health, enhances school physical education and health education, and provides a theoretical foundation for further enhancing college students' mental health. The SCL-90 was used to evaluate "the last week's" mental health condition. There are 90 possibilities on the scale, comprising 10 factors (depression, hostility, psychosis, somatization, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, paranoia, terror, interpersonal sensitivity and others). 93% of students in certain colleges have a positive psychological experience of participating in physical activity. According to the t-test, the mental health level of college students who regularly participate in physical activity is much better than that of college students who occasionally and never participate in physical activity (P <0.01). The impact of physical activity on the mental health of college students of different genders varies. Exercise significantly improves college students' mental health; factors such as duration of physical activity, frequency of exercise, and variety of sports significantly impact mental health development.(AU)

RESUMO

The goal of this study is to investigate and test if physical exercise affects the mental health of law students. is study aim. The current study used a quantitative research approach. A questionnaire survey is carried out to collect data from respondents. Furthermore, a planned physical exercise in the experimental and control groups is used. Finally, data analysis is carried out by using a statistical tool. There was no significant difference in the level of SCL-90 between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in mental health between the experimental group and the control group, which met the requirements of the experiment. Through T-analysis of the data before and after the investigation, there were significant differences in somatization, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and interpersonal sensitivity in the experimental group (P ≤ 0.05), and there were very significant differences in anxiety factors (P ≤ 0.01). Physical exercise intervention can significantly alleviate the bad mood of college students. Physical exercise is conducive to improving college students' intelligence level and reducing the learning pressure. Different sports have different effects on the psychological factors of college students; The overall impact of personal sports on psychological conditions is better than that of collective sports. Collective sports can enhance people's aggressive psychology, but individual sports individual sports cannot replace the advantages of collective sports on interpersonal relationship cannot replace the advantages of collective sports on interpersonal relationship.(AU)

RESUMO

Background/Objective: Although the literature suggested that impaired psychological well-being (PWB) is associated with obesity, evidence on the role of PWB in weight outcomes is limited and inconclusive. This research aimed to investigate the joint role of PWB in achieving clinically significant weight loss (CWL; loss of 5% of the initial weight) through a comprehensive lifestyle intervention for obesity using a broad-based evaluation. Method: This study is a prospective cohort of 96 patients with obesity attending a comprehensive lifestyle intervention for weight loss. Data on weight, lifestyle, PWB, and distress, were collected before and after the intervention. Results: 30.5% of the participants achieved CWL at the end of treatment. A more pronounced increase in autonomy (odds ratio = 0.80 [95% CI: 0.68, 0.93], p ≤ .01) and somatization (odds ratio = 0.83 [95%CI: 0.70, 0.98], p ≤ .05) from pre- to post-treatment were independently associated with a lower probability of CWL. Conclusions: Unbalanced dimensions of PWB, in particular exceedingly high autonomy, may contribute to a poor weight loss outcome. This study paves the way for the addition of psychotherapeutic strategies geared to euthymia in comprehensive lifestyle intervention.

The rehabilitation and recovery process after a sports injury is complicated and involves many changes that people must adapt to. The coping resources that people use can favor or, if they are not adequate, can cause a slower recovery and increase the likelihood of suffering another injury. Currently, medicine focuses its efforts on physical rehabilitation but in this study it has been proven that psychopathological symptoms are related to coping strategies that athletes use and how they perceive the evolution of their injury. A sample of Institut Català de Traumatologia I Medicina de l'Esport (ICATME) patients has been studied at Dexeus University Hospital, who practice sports regularly and competitively. Results have been found and give us relevant information about the type of responses athletes have to the injury and how it affects evolution. Emotional control is of great importance from the first days after suffering the injury, since it involves depressive, anxious symptoms, hostility and paranoid ideation, as well as somatization. It prevents acceptance and personal growth and influences decision making and motivation. Denial of the injury is also involved in these responses and therefore it is important to offer the patient information about their injury. Social support is one of the great pillars in recovery, since it avoids interpersonal sensitivity and phobic anxiety, aspects that lead to a feeling of inferiority to other athletes and irrational fears that delay the recovery of the injury. With all this, research in this field is recommended to create programs of psychological help to athletes who have suffered an injury

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among cybervictimization, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and somatic complaints in a 4-month follow-up study. METHOD: A total of 1,024 high school students (456 male and 568 female, M (SD)=13.69 years (1.3 years), range 12-18 years, voluntarily participated in this study. Measures of cybervictimization and cognitive strategies were obtained at Time 1. Four months later (Time 2), measures of somatic complaints were obtained. RESULTS: Multiple mediation analyses were conducted to determine the mediating roles of maladaptive strategies in the link between cybervictimization and somatic complaints. As expected, path-analytic results showed that cybervictimization predicted somatic symptoms. Furthermore, some maladaptive regulation strategies, namely self-blame and rumination, partially mediated the link between cybervictimization and somatic symptoms evaluated 4-months later. CONCLUSIONS: The findings are discussed in terms of the role that maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies might play with regards to physical health in cyberbullying episodes. In general, these findings have important implications for developing an understanding about the affective determinants of somatic health problem initiation and maintenance after a victimization and for developing intervention programs specifically for cybervictimized adolescents

Sexual interest and arousal disorder (SIAD) is the most common female sexual dysfunction. This mental disorder has a strong negative impact in the women's well-being, relationships and quality of life. A comprehensive approach to the multiple psychological factors that contribute to its appearance and maintenance is needed, in order to optimize the different therapeutic options. In this study, a sample of 10 women with SIAD was compared to a control group of women without a sexual dysfunction. For that purpose, participants were asked to complete standardized questionnaires. Results showed significant differences in psychopathological symptoms, personality dimensions and copying strategies between both groups. This study provides greater empirical understanding of the linkages between SIAD and personality traits, psychopathological symptoms, and stress coping strategies. Further research needs to be conducted to examine the effectiveness of interventions and improve current clinical treatments

The global economic crisis of the previous decade has accelerated internal mobility in the European Union. The main objective was to analyse perceived stress and mental health among Spanish immigrants and non-immigrants, as well as gender differences, and to examine the mediation role of perceived stress in the relationship between migration protective factors and mental health. A convenience sample (N = 941) was obtained by snowball sampling, contacting with social networks during 2014 and 2015. Spanish immigrants (n = 719) living in Germany or United Kingdom and non-immigrants (n = 222) living in Spain answered an online survey with a questionnaire about socio-demographic and migration variables (immigrants) as well as PSS-14 and GQH-28. The low level of perceived stress and mental health symptoms found were similar in Spanish immigrants and non-immigrants. Women immigrants presented slightly higher rates of prevalence of somatisation and anxiety/insomnia and higher perceived stress. A parsimonious structural equation model with two protective migration factors was obtained (R2 = .58), which had direct and indirect effects on mental health through perceived stress. The migration process was not related to poorer mental health in the European context, and gender differences were small. These findings could be explained by the privileged migration conditions of Spanish immigrants

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between dispositional optimism and social support with somatic symptoms in a group of patients on hemodialysis. Patients and Method: We studied 80 patients on hemodialysis, with an average age of 65.20 ± 16.47 years (36.3% women and 63.7% men). A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the Nephrology Service of the Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba. The LOT-R questionnaire for Dispositional Optimism and the Revised Somatic Symptoms Scale were used. Social Support and associated comorbidity were also analyzed. Results: The mean LOT-R was 21.19±5.04 and the median 21 (8-30). The median LOT-R was used to divide patients between pessimists (<21) and optimists (≥21). Although age and comorbidity were higher in the optimistic group, not being significant differences. Although optimists presented fewer symptoms than pessimists, there were no significant differences. Similarly, although patients with lower Social Support presented more symptoms, also without significant differences. When the Social Support of the optimists was compared with the pessimists, no differences were found. Statistical relationship of age was found with comorbidity and cardiovascular symptoms. Conclusions: At least in our sample, in hemodialysis patients, neither Dispositional Optimism nor Social Support seem to influence the appearance of somatic symptoms, nor does Social Support influences Dispositional Optimism. Women have more gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal symptoms than men. The older, the more associated comorbidity

Major depression can be derived from different risk factors, among which experiences of adversity throughout the years of development have been highlighted. In the present work, we investigated whether the experience of physical abuse, one of the documented risk factors, is associated with distinct clinical characteristics among patients with major depression. In the study, with a cross-sectional design, we compared two groups of patients with major depression according to DSM-IV. One group consisted of 20 patients who reported child physical abuse and the other consisted of 52 patients who did not report child physical abuse or other forms of child abuse. Our results showed differential clinical features. In particular, child physical abuse was associated with a higher number of previous depressive episodes, higher levels of depressive symptoms, self-deprecation, suicidal behavior throughout the life span, dysfunctional personality traits, impaired academic/work performance, subtle cognitive dysfunctions, paranoidism, and difficulties in social relationships. The pathways through which childhood adversity may have an impact on this clinical ecophenotype and some therapeutic implications are discussed

A historical look at the metapsychological theorization of transference reveals that it pertains first and foremost to the procedurality involved in the diverse modalities of psychic work. A transposition of the unconscious processes onto another must take place in arder for the processes to become efficient, by way of an identification with the thought processes of this other. The transference of authority onto another anticipates the future founding identification. The psychoanalytic treatment of patients presenting with a somatic condition enables a reflection upan the involvement of the mechanism of transposition in the foundation of the transference in the session
