BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic affects various age groups differently, with most deaths concentrated among the older population and those with previous health conditions. This has led to a greater presence of older people in the agenda setting of all the media. This article aims to analyse these discourses and representations related to older people as presented in the headlines of publications disseminated in 2national newspapers (ABC and El País) during the most critical phase of the pandemic in Spain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An analysis was made of 501 headlines related to older people and the COVID-19 pandemic (380 from ABC, and 121 from El País) from the perspective of the Critical Discourse Studies (Van Dijk, 2003), as well as carrying out a content analysis. RESULTS: 71.4% of the headlines represented the Older adults were represented unfavourably in 71.4% of the headlines, with them being presented as a homogeneous group and associating them with deaths, deficiencies in residential care, or extreme vulnerability. The presence of certain potentially derogatory or improper terms (elderly, grandparents) was consistent with this negative representation. CONCLUSIONS: In light of these results, it is discussed to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic may reinforce an ageist narrative of the older people, based on frailty, decline, and dependency, which may justify discriminatory practices directed at this sector of the population

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in recent years and are now recognized as significant chronic diseases worldwide. One of the most important allergens that causes allergic diseases is house dust mites. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to present a bibliometric overview of research published on dust mites between 1980 and 2018. METHODS: Articles published from 1980 to 2018 were analyzed using bibliometric methods. The keywords "Dust mite*," and "Dermatophagoides" were used in the Web of Science (WoS). Simple linear regression analysis was used to estimate the number of future publications on this subject. RESULTS: A total of 4742 publications were found, 2552 (53.8%) of them were articles. Most of the articles were on subjects related to immunology (1274; 49.9%) and allergy (1229; 48.1%). Clinical and Experimental Allergy (222; 8.7%) was the journal with the most publications. The USA was the country that most contributed to the literature with 461 (18.1%) articles. The countries producing the most publications on this subject were developed countries. The most active author was W.R. Thomas (66; 2.5%). The most productive institution was the University of Western Australia (91; 3.6%). The most cited article was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. CONCLUSION: According to the findings, developed countries were the most productive in publishing on house dust mites. By planning multinational research rather than regional studies, it may be suggested that researchers in underdeveloped or developing countries could also conduct more research on this subject

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated a crisis at all levels, from health sector to the economic, working and social fields. Health systems have shown an enormous capacity to adapt to the needs, which have required rapid actions. To carry out an analysis of the situation is essential to resize needs and make a more efficient use of available resources with a view to the future. Some of the issues that will allow us to make progress in ensuring that the system remains sustainable and equitable are good quality scientific research with appropriate critical appraisal, prudence in medical practice, transparency and access to information, public investment in R+D+I, development of new drug financing models and international cooperation

INTRODUCTION: Although scientific production in community nursing has increased in recent years, it is not easy to publish in specific journals of high impact. We intend to identify scientific journals in which to publish community nursing studies, as well as to discuss scientific-technical characteristics of these journals. METHOD: Constructivist approach article, with qualitative design. Part of a non-systematic documentary review in Scopus, Journal Citation Reports JCR and Index, complemented with a critical evaluation report after analysis and interpretation of content based on expert opinions (12 editors of scientific journals in Spain, in which it is possible to publish community nursing studies). An open-ended questionnaire sent by Google forms(R) was used. RESULTS: There are no Spanish-language journals specific to community nursing in JCR, with 6 specific in English-language and 9 generalists. In Scopus, we find 4 specific and 4 non-specific in English-language, being numerous generalist Journals. In Index, 12 journals were located, 4 with a specific community line. Transparency and ethics are key to the improvement of scientific journals. Editors and reviewers must have the experience, not only as authors but also as reviewers. Improving the visibility of journals, editorial quality, and its impact is important, and this can lead to paying per publication. CONCLUSIONS: The publication of high impact scientific studies must necessarily be done in journals in English, there is no specific journals in Spanish. Transparency, quality, and editorial processes should be improved in scientific journals

The purpose of this essay is to approach the figure of Cajal from a different perspective. It seeks to study the image of the Spanish scientist through the non-professional daily press and, in particular, the impact made by his Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1906. The importance of the press as a historical source today is unquestionable. In this case, it can largely be useful for providing public opinion about Cajal and allowing us to get close to the historical context and the ideological material of press, news, and articles. Major publications of the time from the main cities of Spain have been selected, such as El Imparcial, El Liberal, the Heraldo de Madrid, El País, La Vanguardia y Las Provincias, as well as the magazines Nuevo Mundo, Madrid científico, Mundo científico, La Ilustración española y americana, La Educación, and La Escuela moderna through 1906, the year before (1905) and the year after (1907)
