RESUMO

Aqueous solution containing different concentration (0.5, 0.6 and 1.0%) (w/v) of Polyvinyl pyrrolodon-Iodine (PVP-I) complex, a well-known antiseptic; is prepared and the stability and homogeneity of these solution is assessed as per the ICH Guidelines and International Harmonized Protocol respectively. The solutions were found to be sufficiently homogeneous and stable for a year at 25 °C (60%RH). Measurement uncertainty of the prepared PVP-I solutions were estimated by identifying possible sources of uncertainty using Ishikawa diagram and preparing uncertainty budget based on scope of calibration laboratory. The stable and homogenized PVP-I solution is to be used in a clinical trial for the application on oro and nasopharynx against novel SARS-CoV-2 Virus.

Many surgeons request use of 10% povidone-iodine (PI) for vaginal antisepsis; however, when PI is contraindicated, some surgeons request use of chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) instead. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to determine any significant differences in self-reported symptoms associated with vaginal antisepsis with either 10% PI scrub or 4% CHG with 4% isopropyl alcohol. The control group comprised 62 participants who underwent vaginal antisepsis with the PI product, and the intervention group comprised 58 participants who underwent vaginal antisepsis with the CHG product. Participants completed surveys immediately before surgery, immediately after surgery, and 48 to 72 hours after surgery. No significant differences were found in the reported vaginal symptoms between the two groups for any survey. One participant in the intervention group reported symptoms consistent with an allergic reaction. Additional studies are needed on the use of CHG for vaginal antisepsis.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: To assess the efficacy of 0.23% povidone-iodine (PVP-I) nasal rinses and mouth washes on detectability of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) virus and cycle threshold (Ct) values in nasopharyngeal swabs. STUDY DESIGN: This was an open-label, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. SETTING: The study was conducted in King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from August 2021 to July 2022. METHODS: Participants diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 were randomly assigned to one of three groups, with participants receiving either 0.23% PVP-I, 0.9% normal saline (NS) nasal rinses and mouth washes, or no intervention (control group). Nasopharyngeal swabs were taken 4, 8, 12, and 18 days after the first swab to measure the detectability of the virus and the Ct. RESULTS: A total of 19 participants were involved in this study. The mean viral survival was 9.8, 12, and 12.6 days for the PVP-I, NS, and control groups, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.046). The Ct mean values were 23 ± 3.4, 23.5 ± 6.3, and 26.3 ± 5.9 at the time of recruitment and 25.2 ± 3.5, 15 ± 11.7, and 26.9 ± 6.4 after 4 days for the PVP-I, NS, and control groups, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: When used continuously at a concentration of 0.23%, PVP-I showed promising results in terms of decreasing the pandemic burden by reducing the period of infectiousness and viral load. However, the use of PVP-I did not result in significantly different changes in the quality-of-life parameters in recently vaccinated and mild COVID-19 patients.

INTRODUCTION: Many studies have demonstrated significant antibiotic resistance by commonly isolated organisms. This is an eye-opener for the clinicians, who prescribe antibiotics day in and out. This situation shifts our attention towards the usage of antiseptic measures, which can at times play an important role in preventing and treating various infections. METHOD: This is a double-blinded randomized controlled study that compares the bundle approach to the conventional approach for the prevention of surgical site infections in patients of peritonitis undergoing midline laparotomy in emergency. The bundle approach includes three measures, namely, painting of surgical site with chlorhexidine, dabbing the wound with povidone-iodine after the closure of the rectus sheath, and application of chlorhexidine-impregnated gauze piece over the skin wound. RESULTS: The total sample size was 64 (32 in each arm). The rate of surgical site infection was significantly lower in the test arm (21.8%) as compared to the conventional arm (46.8%). The mean length of hospital stay was shorter by one day in the test arm, although, not significant. The isolates from the peritoneal fluid culture and wound culture were mostly gram-negative organisms. Most of the organisms exhibited resistance toward third generation cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, and aminoglycosides. CONCLUSION: Antibiotic resistance is a burning concern in today's world. Alternative methods of preventing infection in the form of using antiseptics should be sought. Although our study was limited to emergency cases, this bundle approach can be implemented in elective cases as well.

Mechanical plaque control is the first line of management of peri-implant diseases. Povidone iodine is one of the broad spectrum and potent antiseptics available at various concentrations. The aim of the study was to assess and compare the efficacy of various concentrations of povidone iodine in the management of peri-implant mucositis. In the present double blinded, parallel designed, randomized clinical trial, a total of 60 patients with peri-implant mucositis (20 participants in each group [Group 1 (povidone iodine 0.1%), Group 2 (povidone iodine 2%) and Group 3 (povidone iodine 010%)] were enrolled. Scaling and root planing was done and then the peri-implant sulcus was irrigated with respective irrigant and repeated once in a week for 4 weeks. Loe and Silness Gingival Index (GI) and Mombelli Modified sulcular bleeding index (BI) were recorded at baseline and after a month and compared. Statistical analysis was done using One-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD post hoc test. A statistically significant difference (P = 0.000) observed between the three concentrations when compared after 1 month. Also, a statistically significant difference between Group 1 and Group 3 and Group 2 and Group 3 was observed in terms of post GI (P = 0.000) and post BI (P = 0.000) but statistically no significant difference was observed between Group 1 and Group 2 in terms of post GI (P = 0.171) and post BI (P = 0.338). The 2% and 10% povidone iodine showed significant improvement in gingival index and bleeding index and hence it could be an effective adjunct to scaling and root planing in the management of peri-implant mucositis.

BACKGROUND: The application of antiseptic skin agents prior to incision minimizes the rate of surgical site infection. Despite their ubiquity, the optimal skin preparation agent remains uncertain. A retrospective economic analysis was conducted to complement the results from the NEWSkin Prep trial which prospectively compared three preparation agents. METHODS: A cost and cost-effectiveness analysis was performed from a healthcare service perspective to compare chlorhexidine with 70% ethanol, and aqueous povidone-iodine, against povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol. Resource use estimates accounted for hospital admissions, readmissions associated with surgical site infection, outpatient and general practitioner attendances, visits from community nurses and therapeutic consumables. The measure of effectiveness comprised the net difference in number of patients with surgical site infections per 1000 patients. Costs were compared using a two-sample Welch's t-test. Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. RESULTS: The null hypothesis that the mean costs for the trial arms were significantly different was not rejected (Welch's t-test P value: 0.771 for chlorhexidine with 70% ethanol against povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol; and 0.955 for aqueous povidone-iodine against povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol). Based on bootstrap averages, the chlorhexidine with 70% ethanol intervention generated 8.0 fewer surgical site infections per 1000 patients and net cost savings of €151,698 (Euros) per 1000 patients compared with povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol, and aqueous povidone-iodine produced a net cost saving of €37,494 per 1000 patients but generated an additional 11.6 surgical site infections per 1000 patients compared with povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol. The comparison of chlorhexidine with 70% ethanol to povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol was sensitive to the inclusion of cost outliers, while the comparison of aqueous povidone-iodine to povidone-iodine with 70% ethanol was sensitive to the estimated cost per surgical site infection. CONCLUSION: Based on the outcomes from the NEWSkin Prep study, this economic analysis found no definitive evidence in favour of any one of the study comparators. Future model-based economic analyses of alternative skin preparations should critically address the quality of evidence and integrate the results from the NEWSkin Prep study.

PURPOSE: To compare the effect of povidone-iodine (PI) 5% and moxifloxacin 0.5% solutions versus PI 5% solution alone on the conjunctival bacterial flora. METHODOLOGY: This is a comparative study in which the study population comprised adult patients scheduled for elective small incision cataract surgery. The eye to be operated (control eye) received topical moxifloxacin 0.5% drops 4 times, 1 day before surgery and 2 applications on the day of surgery. As placebo, the contralateral eye (study eye) received saline 0.90% drops as per the same schedule. Before surgery, on table, PI 5% was instilled in the conjunctival sac in both eyes. Conjunctival swabs were taken before initiation of therapy and 3 min after instillation of PI. RESULTS: Of the 96 pairs of eyes included in the study, conjunctival cultures before prophylaxis were similar between the two groups (p = 0.31), with 54 samples (56%) of the study group and 49 (51%) of the control group showing growth. With positive cultures reducing to 7 (14%) in the study group and 8 (16%) in the control group, both the prophylaxis methods appeared equally efficacious (p = 0.79). Both the groups showed a significant reduction in positive cultures following prophylaxis (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: PI 5% alone as preoperative prophylaxis was as effective as its combination therapy with moxifloxacin 0.5% in the reduction in conjunctival bacterial colonization.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term effects of serial intravitreal injections (IVI) on measures of dry eye. METHODS: The PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched according to the PROSPERO protocol (CRD42023455727). Studies evaluating the influence of serial IVI on the ocular surface compared with untreated fellow eyes were included. The measures of dry eye after IVI were used as outcome variables. The results are presented as mean difference (MD) with a corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: A total of 4 studies with 259 participants were included in this meta-analysis. Significant increases in ocular surface disease index (OSDI) scores (MD 10.26, 95 % CI 5.05 to 15.46, p < 0.01) and tear film osmolarity (TOsm; MD 4.40, 95 % CI 0.87 to 7.92, p = 0.01) were observed in the IVI treated eyes compared to the untreated fellow eyes. There was no significant difference between the groups with respect to fluorescein tear film break-up time (TBUT; p = 0.05), average non-invasive tear film break-up time (NITBUT; p = 0.94), first NITBUT (p = 0.78) and Schirmer test (p = 0.94). CONCLUSION: Repeated IVI of anti-VEGF agents with preoperative povidone-iodine application was associated with increased OSDI scores and TOsm, while no significant difference was found in fluorescein TBUT, average NITBUT, first NITBUT and Schirmer test. The ocular surface may partially recover after the procedures, but IVI still has deleterious effects on the ocular surface.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the effect of biopsy needle disinfection with 10% formalin solution alone and with povidone-iodine rectal cleaning on preventing infectious complications requiring hospitalization. METHODS: The data of 902 patients who underwent prostate biopsy by transrectal route were retrospectively analyzed. Inclusion criteria were prophylactic antibiotic use and negative urine culture before the biopsy. Three groups occurred according to the methods used during the biopsy procedure. In Group 1, 501 patients, biopsy needle disinfection was made using 10% formalin solution during the biopsy procedure. Group 2, 164 patients, applied only prophylactic antibiotics. Group 3, 237 patients, applied both 10% formalin disinfection of the biopsy needle and prebiopsy povidone-iodine rectal cleansing. Hospitalized patients because of infectious complications a month after the biopsy were our outcome measures. RESULTS: Hospitalization rates because of biopsy-related infectious complications, according to Groups 1, 2, and 3, were 2.7%, 8.5%, and 0%, respectively. The best results were observed in Group 3 and the worst in Group 2. CONCLUSIONS: The two nonantibiotic strategies, biopsy needle disinfection with formalin solution and rectal cleaning with povidone-iodine, look more effective when applied together. However, further prospective studies are required to confirm our analysis.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the peri- and post-intravitreal injection (IVI) symptoms reported by patients who have been repeatedly injected for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and to analyze these according to the protocols of the injector. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Multi-center, cross-sectional, consecutive, analytical survey. RESULTS: The IVI protocols of 106 injectors differed in terms of the number of instillations of povidone-iodine, its contact time, and rinsing of the ocular surface post-injection. In total, 3,738 patients responded to the survey, 60.1% of whom were women; 36.4% had received more than 20 IVIs; 50.7% of patients reported irritation upon application of povidone-iodine. Post-IVI, depending on the symptom in question, between 44.8% and 57.4% of patients reported symptoms of ocular surface change. The number of instillations of povidone-iodine, its contact time with the ocular surface, and abundant rinsing post-IVI increased the immediate symptoms. Patients who received more IVIs were more prone to experiencing gritty eyes, and the incidence of acute pain increased in patients who had previously received over 20 IVIs. Women and patients previously treated for dry eye or glaucoma were at greater risk of worse symptoms. CONCLUSION: Comparing injecting centers' practices with patients' self-assessments showed an aggravation of symptoms of ocular surface changes related to povidone-iodine. This survey contributes to providing data for the implementation of a protocol to improve the quality of life of patients injected repeatedly for AMD.

Wound management practices have made significant advancements, yet the search for improved antiseptics persists. In our pursuit of solutions that not only prevent infections but also address broader aspects of wound care, we investigated the impact of integrating trimethyl chitosan (TMC) into a widely used poly(vinylpyrrolidone)-iodine gel (PVP-I gel). Our study assessed the antimicrobial efficacy of the PVP gel with TMC against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, multidrug-resistant S. aureus MRSA, and Candida albicans. Additionally, we compared hemostatic effects using a liver puncture bleeding model and evaluated wound healing through histological sections from full-thickness dermal wounds in rats. The results indicate that incorporating TMC into the commercially available PVP-I gel did not compromise its antimicrobial activity. The incorporation of TMC into the PVP-I gel markedly improves its hemostatic activity. The regular application of the PVP-I gel with TMC resulted in an increased blood vessel count in the wound bed and facilitated the development of thicker fibrous tissue with a regenerated epidermal layer. These findings suggest that TMC contributes not only to antimicrobial activity but also to the intricate processes of tissue regeneration. In conclusion, incorporating TMC proves beneficial, making it a valuable additive to commercially available antiseptic agents.

Surgical site infections (SSI) remain a cause of morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, surgical readmission, and death. Nasal colonization with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcal aureus is a frequent cause of device-related SSI and nasal mupirocin has been used for prevention. More recently, povidone-iodine nasal swabs have become an alternative. It is cheaper, ensures compliance and there are no concerns regarding antimicrobial resistance. However, its adoption was suboptimal in a community hospital system in southwestern Ohio, especially in neurosurgery and vascular surgery. Quality improvement techniques, including solicitation of stakeholder input, surgeons and perioperative nurses' education, and the use of reminders to order and administer the povidone-iodine nasal swabs improved physician ordering and nurse administration compliance, leading to fewer infections. The interventions continued after the project was completed, sustaining decreases in neurosurgery and vascular surgery, and fewer SSI through the first years of the pandemic. Despite the complexity of these surgeries, simple interventions were effective in addressing the problem.

Since disinfectants are used all over the world to treat illnesses in people and other animals, they pose a major risk to human health. The comprehensive effects of disinfectant treatments on fish liver, especially the impacts on oxidative stress, toxicological effects, transcriptome profiles, and apoptosis, have not yet been fully analyzed. In the current investigation, healthy grass carp were exposed to 80 µg/L glutaraldehyde or 50 µg/L povidone-iodine for 30 days. First, the findings of enzyme activity tests demonstrated that the administration of glutaraldehyde could considerably increase oxidative stress by lowering T-SOD, CAT, and GPx and raising MDA. Furthermore, KEGG research revealed that exposure to glutaraldehyde and povidone-iodine stimulated the PPAR signal pathway. To further elucidate the transcriptome results, the relative expressions of related DEGs in the PPAR signal pathway were verified. Glutaraldehyde induced apoptosis in liver tissue of grass carp; however, it activated cytotoxicity and apoptosis in grass carp hepatocytes when exposed to glutaraldehyde or povidone-iodine. According to the current study, disinfectants can cause the impairment of the immune system, oxidative stress, and attenuation of the PPAR signal pathway in the liver of grass carp, making them detrimental as dietary supplements for grass carp, particularly in the aquaculture sector.

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total joint arthroplasty is a major concern requiring multiple surgeries and antibiotic interventions. Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli are the predominant causes of these infections. Due to biofilm formation, antibiotic treatment for patients with PJI can prolong resistance, further complicating the use of current treatments. Previous research has shown that cathodic voltage-controlled electrical stimulation (CVCES) is an effective technique to prevent/treat implant-associated biofilm infections on titanium (Ti) surfaces. This study thus evaluated the efficacy of CVCES via the use of 10% betadine alone and in combination with CVCES to eradicate lab-grown biofilms on cemented and cementless cobalt-chromium (CoCr) and Ti surfaces. CVCES treatment alone for 24 hours demonstrated no detectable CFU for E. coli and P. aeruginosa biofilms on cementless CoCr implants. In the presence of cement, E. coli biofilms had 106 CFUs/implant remaining after CVCES treatment alone; however, P. aeruginosa biofilms on cemented implants were reduced to below detectable limits. The use of 10% betadine treatment for 3 minutes followed by 24-hour CVCES treatment brought CFU levels to below detectable limits in E. coli and P. aeruginosa. The same was true for S. aureus biofilms on cementless patellofemoral implants as well as femoral and tibial implants. These treatment methods were not sufficient for eradication of S. aureus biofilms on cemented implants. These results suggest that CVCES alone and CVCES with 10% betadine are effective approaches to treating biofilms formed by certain bacterial species potentially leading to the treatment of PJI.IMPORTANCEPeriprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are problematic due to requiring multiple surgeries and antibiotic therapies that are responsible for increased patient morbidity and healthcare costs. These infections become resistant to antibiotic treatment due to the formation of biofilms on the orthopedic surfaces. Cathodic voltage-controlled electrical stimulation (CVCES) has previously been shown to be an effective technique to prevent and treat biofilm infections on different surfaces. This study shows that CVCES can increase the efficacy of 10% betadine irrigation used in debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention by 99.9% and clear infection to below detection limits. PJI treatments are at times limited, and CVCES could be a promising technology to improve patient outcomes.

Cleansing is a vital component of effective wound hygiene and biofilm management, often accomplished through vigorous mechanical action or through soaking with moistened gauze. In the present study, a quantitative comparison of the effectiveness of different cleansing techniques and solutions in removing bacteria was conducted on 71 chronic wounds using bacterial fluorescence imaging as a real-time diagnostic for moderate to high bacterial loads. Vigorous gauze cleansing for 30 s proved most effective by reducing bacterial fluorescence by 33.99%, surpassing 10-min soaking in bacterial reduction (13.24%). Among different cleansers, no statistically significant differences in effectiveness were observed, but povidone-iodine showed the strongest trend towards bacterial reduction. Sub-analysis highlighted the superiority of antiseptic cleansers over saline and gentle soap (-33.30% vs. -1.80% bacterial reduction respectively). Five percent acetic acid was also shown to be more effective in removing specific bacterial strains (Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Findings from studies like this contribute to refining wound hygiene guidelines and clinical algorithms for bacterial and biofilm management.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern for the future of mankind. Common antibiotics fail in the treatment of microbial infections at an alarming rate. Morbidity and mortality rates increase, especially among immune-compromised populations. Medicinal plants and their essential oils, as well as iodine could be potential solutions against resistant pathogens. These natural antimicrobials abate microbial proliferation, especially in synergistic combinations. We performed a simple, one-pot synthesis to prepare our formulation with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-complexed iodine (I2), Thymus Vulgaris L. (Thyme), and Aloe Barbadensis Miller (AV). SEM/EDS, UV-vis, Raman, FTIR, and XRD analyses verified the purity, composition, and morphology of AV-PVP-Thyme-I2. We investigated the inhibitory action of the bio-formulation AV-PVP-Thyme-I2 against 10 selected reference pathogens on impregnated sterile discs, surgical sutures, cotton gauze bandages, surgical face masks, and KN95 masks. The antimicrobial properties of AV-PVP-Thyme-I2 were studied by disc diffusion methods and compared with those of the antibiotics gentamycin and nystatin. The results confirm AV-PVP-Thyme-I2 as a strong antifungal and antibacterial agent against the majority of the tested microorganisms with excellent results on cotton bandages and face masks. After storing AV-PVP-Thyme-I2 for 18 months, the inhibitory action was augmented compared to the fresh formulation. Consequently, we suggest AV-PVP-Thyme-I2 as an antimicrobial agent against wound infections and a spray-on contact killing agent.

OBJECTIVES: Lymphocele formation after kidney transplant is a common complication that causes significant morbidity. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intraoperative prophylactic povidone-iodine sclerotherapy through the closed suction drain to prevent lymphocele after kidney transplant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective comparative single-institution study, we compared patients who underwent intraoperative prophylactic povidone-iodine sclerotherapy through the closed suction drain (group A) with patients who did not receive sclerotherapy (group B). Patients were treated between September 2017 and July 2023. Atthe end of the kidney transplant surgery, after the closure of the external oblique muscle layer and before skin closure, 10 mL of 10% povidone-iodine in 40 mL of normal saline were instilled via the closed suction drain and dwelled in the cavity for 30 minutes. RESULTS: During the study period, 300 living-related donor kidney transplants were performed. Prophylactic povidone-iodine sclerotherapy was performed in 150 patients (50%).We noted a significantly lower incidence of lymphorrhea and lymphocele in group A. On postoperative days 1 and 5, we noted a significant reduction in drain output in group A (P < .001). One patient in group A and 5 patients in group B required ultrasonography-guideddrainage andpovidone-iodine sclerotherapy. No sclerotherapy-related complications were reported after a median follow-up of 16 months (range, 3-29 months). CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative prophylactic povidoneiodine sclerotherapy appears to be an easy, safe, and effective procedure for preventing lymphatic complications after living donor kidney transplant.

ABSTRACT: Wound soaking is a physical debridement method that helps reduce bacterial colonization and consequently promotes wound healing. Although soaking in povidone-iodine solution was ineffective in reducing bacterial colonization in acute trauma wounds, there is still a lack of evidence supporting the efficacy of this method in treating severe soft tissue infection. This study aimed to explore the effects of wound soaking in 1% dilute povidone-iodine solution on necrotizing fasciitis caused by diabetic foot ulcers. We retrospectively reviewed and finally included 153 patients who were admitted because of diabetic foot ulcers after undergoing fasciotomy for necrotizing infection from January 2018 to December 2021. Results showed no statistical difference in the outcomes between patients in the soaking and nonsoaking groups. End-stage renal disease (P = 0.029) and high serum C-reactive protein level (P = 0.007) were the only independent factors for below-knee amputation in the univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Therefore, soaking diabetic wounds with severe infection in 1% dilute povidone-iodine solution may not reduce the hospital length of stay, risk of below-knee amputation, and readmission rate.

Postoperative wound infections (PWIs), a subtype of surgical site infections, are a significant concern for patients undergoing caesarean sections (C-sections). Understanding risk factors and pathogen profiles can greatly assist in early diagnosis and effective treatment. This study aimed to identify risk factors and analyse the pathogenic landscape contributing to PWIs in C-sections. A nested case-control study was carried out, utilising stringent criteria for case selection and control matching. Diagnostic criteria for surgical site infections included both clinical and microbiological parameters. Risk variables examined included patient age, Body Mass Index, duration of surgery and several other clinical indicators. Microbiological analysis was performed using the BD Phoenix-100 Automated Bacterial Identification System. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 26.0, and risk factors were evaluated through both univariate and multivariate analyses. A total of 50 patients, aged between 20 and 45 years (mean age 26.3 ± 5.6), developed PWIs following C-sections. The study revealed a temporal distribution and various clinical indicators of PWIs, including elevated white blood cell count and C-reactive protein levels. Gram-negative bacteria were found to be more prevalent at 57.4%. Notable pathogens included Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Antimicrobial resistance patterns were also identified, highlighting the need for a targeted antibiotic approach. Increased infection risks were linked to lack of prophylactic antibiotics, absence of preoperative povidone-iodine antisepsis, operations over an hour, anaemia, amniotic fluid contamination, diabetes, GTI, premature rupture of membranes and white blood cells counts above 10 × 109 /L. The study provides critical insights into the risk factors and microbial agents contributing to PWIs following C-sections. Our findings emphasise the importance of early diagnosis through clinical and laboratory parameters, as well as the need for constant surveillance and reassessment of antibiotic stewardship programs.
