RESUMO
Granulomatous labour mastitis is a rare, benign, inflammatory breast condition of unknown aetiology that can clinically mimic breast cancer. Awareness of this condition is important, as the appropriate specimens must be taken to confirm the diagnosis and to rule out an infectious aetiology. While surgical exclusion has been the traditional therapeutic modality, the most appropriate therapy seems to involve the use of corticosteriods, even in the case of recurrence. (AU)

This retrospective study assesses the infective granulomata which were managed by a single surgeon in St. Vincent from January, 1964 to November, 1994. The data were obtained from the author's clinical and operative records, library of clinical photographs, X-ray films and private pathological museum. The total number of cases was 37, distributed as follows: bacterial-22 (syphilis 12, tuberculosis 5, yaws 3, leprosy 2); mycotic 4 (actinomycosis 4, mycetoma 1 viral-11 (lymphogranuloma venereum 9, granuloma inguinale 2). Syphilis presented as primary, secondary and tertiary lesions, the latter constituting two-thirds of the cases. There was one case of abdominal tuberculosis four of bone and joint. The three cases of yaws and two of leprosy were late manifestations of both diseases. The cases of actinomycosis were facial, cervico-facial and abdominal, the teeth and appendix being the sources of infection. Diagnosis of the single case of mycetoma was long delayed and amputation was eventually necessary. Lymphogranuloma venereum presented in its early acute and late fibrotic forms with anorectal structure in four patients requiring defunctioning colostomy. Granuloma inguinale manifested itself as beefy-red ulcers on the penis and perineum. This study indicates that the infective granulomata, though relatively few in number, were nevertheless of clinical and surgical interest (AU)

Two West Indian parents and three of their seven offspring presented over a 12 yr period with identical systemic illnesses characterized by the development of granulomatous hepatitis. Granulomata were variably also found in muscle, lymph nodes, and pleura in some of these affected individuals. The usual causes of granulomatous hepatitis were absent, and this familial disease represents a hitherto undescribed entity. (AU)

A case of granulomatous orchitis in a 52-year old negro male is reported. The distinction between granulomatous orchitis and cancer is important in particular in coloured people where the former is not rare while testicular cancer is uncommon.(AU)

A 57 cow dairy herd, believed to be in excellent condition and producing well, was found to contain 30 tuberculous cattle after cervical skin testing employing bovine PPD tuberculin with the single intradermal comparative test. Testing was initiated after two cows from this herd were found at meat inspection to have tuberculosis. The reliability of bovine PPD tuberculin for testing as well as significant epidemiological, laboratory and meat inspection factors are presented. (AU)

Two cases of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis are reported in Negroes. The clinical findings are similar to those in previously reported cases. In 1 case nephrolithotomy was followed by the development of a perinephric abscess 8 months later. Late diagnosis has limited experience with more conservative management, which should be reserved for demonstrably focal disease (AU)
