RESUMO
Glucose was determined on venous blood samples from 129 adult diabetics by three different methodologies: in the clinical chemistry laboratory, using glucose oxidase-based reflection densitometric method (NLAB), by the glucometer r3 using a whole reagent pad (NWHOLE), and using half a reagent strip (NHLF). The following results were obtained: 57 percent of NWHOLE and 42.9 percent of NHLF correlated with the laboratory results in the blood glucose range < 4.4 mmol/l; 58.8 percent of NWHOLE and 18.8 percent of NHLF in the range 7.8 - 10.0 mmol/l; 40.9 percent of NWHOLE and 22.7 percent of NHLF in the range 10.1 - 13.0 mmol/l and 82.6 percent of NWHOLE and 84.8 percent of NHLF where the blood glucose is > 13.0 mmol/l. The glucometer r3 performs better at glucose levels >13 mmol/l. The halved reagent strips give accurate results where blood glucose is > 13 mmol/l (AU)
