Review of the plants present in Suriname having cytotoxic and/or anti-tumor activity. The screening tests were carried out by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the USA. Ever since 1957, 35,000 plants from all over the world, have already been tested, of which ca. 3300 (=9.4 per cent) showed anti-tumor and/or cytotoxic activity. In Suriname there are 20 plant species (10 families) containing various active matter. However, most of them were not tested clinically, nor practically applied
