Estrés y burnout en estudiantes de Odontología: una situación preocupante en la formación profesional / Stress and burnout in Dentistry students: a concerning problem in the professional formation

RESUMEN

Las actividades laboral y académica generan estrés, que según como sea vivido, afrontado y resuelto, determinará una respuesta adaptativa o patológica. Además del estrés, se ha descrito un fenómeno propio de quienes trabajan en la atención a las personas el burnout, es un síndrome de cansancio emocional, despersonalización y baja realización personal. Tanto el estrés como el burnout han sido ampliamente estudiados entre los profesionales de la salud. Lamentablemente estas patologías comienzan a desarrollarse en el pregrado; diversas investigaciones en distintas partes del mundo coinciden en señalar sus preocupantes niveles entre estudiantes de Odontología. El objetivo de este artículo es exponer críticamente los hallazgos de la literatura internacional reciente en torno al estrés y el burnout entre estos alumnos, así como plantear la necesidad de desarrollar investigaciones de estos fenómenos a nivel latinoamericano.

ABSTRACT

Working and academic activities generate stress that according to how the person has lived, faced and solved it determines an adaptative or a pathological answer. Besides stress, it has been described a characteristic phenomenon of those who work in the attention to people the burnout, known by the acronym SBO, it is a syndrome of emotional fatigue, lack of personification and low personal realization. Either stress or the SBO has been broadly studied among the health professionals. Regrettably, these pathologies begin to be developed since undergraduate studies; diverse research works in different parts of the world coincide in pointing out their concerning levels among Dentistry students. The objective of this article is to expose the recent findings of the international literature around stress and the SBO among these students critically, as well as to outline the necessity to develop research works on these phenomena at a Latin American level.
