Cómo iniciarse en investigación durante la residencia: recomendaciones para la elección de tema de investigación, universidad y mentor / How to start in research during the training period: advice for the choice of the research topic, university, and mentor

RESUMEN

Dentro del programa formativo de la especialidad de psiquiatría, además de las habilidades y competencias clínicas, se contempla que el residente adquiera conocimientos y se implique en actividad investigadora, pudiendo culminar esta labor con la realización de la tesis doctoral. Bajo esta situación, muchos residentes se plantean realizar investigación durante la residencia, sin embargo, debido a la presión por cumplir otros requisitos del programa formativo, el peso de la labor asistencial, y la escasa homogeneidad de la estructura investigadora entre los diferentes centros, el inicio de dicha actividad puede resultar arduo y complicado. El objetivo de este artículo es servir de guía para la toma de decisiones a la hora de participar en investigación o hacer el doctorado para los residentes que se encuentran en formación. Intentaremos responder a diversas cuestiones como son: por qué investigar, tipos de tesis que se pueden realizar, qué universidad elegir y aspectos a tener en cuenta en la elección de un mentor (AU)

ABSTRACT

The training program of the psychiatry specialty, in addition to learning the clinical skills and competences, requires that the resident acquires knowledge and gets involved in research activity. It would be desirable to culminate this work with the completion of the doctoral dissertation. However, the beginning of this activity may be confusing and complicated due to the pressure to fulfil other requirements of the training program, the clinical load, and the low homogeneity of the research structure between different centres. The purpose of this article is to serve as a guide for decision-making when it comes to participating in research or enrolling in a doctoral program for residents who are in training. We will try to answer several questions such as: Why to investigate, types of dissertations that can be done, which university to choose, and aspects to consider when choosing a mentor (AU)
