Sporotrichosis is an infectious fungal disease that affects man and animals,being its clinical manifestation due to piogranulomatous skin lesions. Currently, it is akind of zoonosis emerging from public healthrisk, since domestic felines are the main disseminators, by transmitting or microorganism through inoculation by bites orscratches. The state of Rio de Janeiro is an endemic region, where populationawareness in preventive methods is extremely important. The fungus inhabits decomposing organic matter, soils, wood with high humidity, temperature and obscurity. Professionals such as gardeners, horticulturists, farmers and veterinarians areat greater risk therefore it is considered an occupational zoonosis. The objective of thestudy is to elucidate the risks of sporotrichosis to public health, addressing its etiology, transmission and clinical-epidemiological index. (AU)
