Hydrogenation of the N-N bond under ambient conditions over 1 wt% Ru/Vulcan was monitored through operando Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and DFT. IR signals centered at 3017 cm-1 and 1302 cm-1 were visible with attributes similar to the asymmetric stretching and bending vibrations of gas phase ammonia at 3381 cm-1 and 1650 cm-1. The intensities of the signals increased with consecutive H2 : Ar and N2 flow cycles at room temperature and atmospheric pressure due to accumulation of the formed NHX on the catalyst surface. DFT estimations revealed that a compound with a molecular stoichiometry of N-NH3 can give rise to an IR signal centered at 3051.9 cm-1. The results of this study, combined with the known vapor liquid phase behavior of ammonia, suggest that under subcritical conditions, the bottlenecks of ammonia synthesis are both N-N bond dissociation and ammonia desorption from the pores of the catalyst.

In this study, the process economics of ammonia synthesis over Co3Mo3N was investigated by searching for an optimum feed stoichiometry. From ammonia synthesis rate measurements at atmospheric pressure and 400 °C over Co3Mo3N, it was found that the rate was independent of H2 : N2 stoichiometry for stoichiometries above 0.5 : 1. For H2 : N2 stoichiometries below 0.5 : 1, there was a linear dependency of ammonia synthesis rate on the H2 : N2 stoichiometry. Static measurements of hydrogen adsorption isotherms at 25, 50, and 100 °C revealed that the adsorbed amounts of strongly bound hydrogen over the Co3Mo3N surface were saturated at around 100 Torr hydrogen pressure. This pressure corresponds to the partial pressure of hydrogen when the H2 : N2 stoichiometry is around 0.5 : 1, confirming the role of strongly bound hydrogen in ammonia synthesis. These results were used to modify an existing kinetic expression to be used in a conceptual design, based on a late mixing strategy for the hydrogen stream. This conceptual design and its economic analysis revealed that using low hydrogen stoichiometries can cut the investment and operating costs by a factor of 2.

UNLABELLED: The aim of our study was to investigate the anti-tetanus and anti-diphtheria antibody titres and the placental transfer of these antibodies in a group of vaccinated and unvaccinated mothers and their term or preterm offsprings. Anti-tetanus and anti-diphtheria toxoid IgG antibodies were measured quantitatively by ELISA in 91 infant-mother pairs. Protective concentrations of anti-tetanus and anti-diphtheria were found in 58.3 and 50% of mothers in the unvaccinated group and 94.5 and 85.5% of the mothers in the vaccinated group. Protective concentrations were found in 63.9 and 50% of cord samples, respectively, in the unvaccinated group and in 96.4 and 85.5% of cord samples, respectively, in the vaccinated group (p = 0.0001). There were no differences in the maternal and cord geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of anti-toxoid antibodies between those who received two doses or one dose of Td. The GMCs of maternal and cord anti-tetanus and anti-diphtheria were statistically similar between preterm and term groups. Placental transfer ratios (TR) for anti-tetanus and anti-diphtheria were 175 and 150%, respectively, in the preterm group and 213 and 178%, respectively, in the term group. There was a strong correlation between maternal and cord anti-toxoid antibody levels. Maternal vaccination was the only predictor of having protective concentrations of anti-toxoid antibodies in cord blood. CONCLUSIONS: Vaccinating pregnant women with at least one dose of Td would confer protection for both the term and preterm infant-mother pairs. Therefore, health personnel caring for pregnant women have the responsibility to emphasize the importance of Td vaccination to avoid missed immunization opportunities.

BACKGROUND: Numerous molecular-based tests were applied for the laboratory-based diagnosis of viruses. In this cross-sectional case control study, in addition to bacteria, we aimed to determine respiratory viruses using, for the first time in our country, the Reverse Transcription PCR DNA Microarray method, and we also aimed to evaluate its diagnostic performance. METHODS: Respiratory viruses were investigated from nasopharyngeal swabs of 76 patients diagnosed with atypical pneumonia and 64 healthy controls using the CLART Pneumovir (Genomica, Spain) kit and from 10 mL blood samples of the same subjects. M. pneumoniae IgM was detected by ELISA and L. pneumophila IgM and C. pneumoniae IgM by indirect immunofluorescence. Person's chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Our results showed that the specificity (100%) and the positive predictive value (100%) of the CLART Pneumovir kit were high, but its sensitivity (53%), its negative predictive value (64%), and its kappa value (50%) were low. Parainfluenza Virus type 3 and M. pneumoniae were found alone or together as the most common microorganisms while no cases of human bocavirus, adenovirus, rhinovirus, or coronavirus were detected. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that, during the study period, most of our patients had atypical pneumonia due to Parainfluenza Virus type 3 and M. pneumoniae co-infection.

BACKGROUND: A thoracic trauma model was designed to evaluate the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and dexamethasone (DX) on histopathologic and oxidative changes in lung parenchyma seen after pulmonary contusion. METHODS: Twenty-four Wistar albino rats were included in the study. They were allocated into control (CG, n=6), sham (SG, n=6), DX (DXG, n=6), and DMSO (DMG, n=6) groups. Only a lung biopsy was performed in CG. In the experimental groups, blunt thoracic trauma was induced by dropping a cylindrical metal weight (0.5 kg) through a stainless steel tube onto the right hemithorax from a height of 0.4 m (E=1.96 J). In the SG, 1 mL of physiologic saline was injected intraperitoneally, in the DXG 10 mg/kg of DX was injected intraperitoneally, and in the DMG 1.2 g/mL of DMSO was injected intraperitoneally 15 minutes after trauma. After 6 hours, lung biopsy was performed for histopathologic and oxidative injury markers. RESULTS: Histopathologically, congestion, hemorrhage, neutrophil infiltration, endothelial-nitric oxide synthase (E-NoS), and total pathologic score were significantly higher in SG, DXG, and DMG when compared with CG (p<0.05). Neutrophil infiltration, total pathologic score, and E-NoS were significantly decreased in DMG when compared with SG and DXG (p<0.05). Biochemically, superoxide dismutase (SOD) level was significantly higher in SG, DXG, and DMG than in CG. SOD level was significantly lower in DXG and DMG than in SG (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: DMSO prevents further injury by decreasing neutrophil infiltration and endothelial injury in lung contusions. DX may have a role in the progression of inflammation but not in preventing the pathologic disruption of pulmonary parenchyma.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) comprises ~1% to 4% of thrombocytopenia cases during pregnancy. Factors predicting neonatal thrombocytopenia and associated morbidities due to maternal ITP are unclear. The present study aimed to assess the neonatal outcomes of pregnant women with ITP. Fifty-five pregnant women with ITP and their babies, born between January/2013 and April/2021, were retrospectively reviewed. Maternal and neonatal thrombocytopenia cases other than ITP were excluded from the study. Physical examination, blood count, and cranial/abdominal ultrasonography findings of the newborns were recorded. Neonatal thrombocytopenia was defined as a platelet count < 150 × 109/L. Relationship between neonatal thrombocytopenia and maternal factors was investigated. Thrombocytopenia was detected in 17/55 babies (30.9%), and 8/17 (47.1%) had symptoms of bleeding, all but one being mild bleeding. There was a significant correlation between neonatal platelet counts of < 100 × 109/L and maternal splenectomy history. Incidence of moderate and severe thrombocytopenia was higher (statistically insignificant) in neonates of mothers with ITP. No significant correlation was determined between maternal and neonatal platelet counts. There was a weak insignificant correlation between platelet counts of neonates of mothers with or without thrombocytopenia. A significant correlation was found between the presence of splenectomy before delivery in the mother and a platelet count of < 100 × 109/L in the neonate. Moderate and severe thrombocytopenia was higher in neonates of mothers diagnosed with ITP before pregnancy and needed treatment during pregnancy and/or delivery, but the difference was insignificant. Close follow-up of babies born to mothers with ITP after birth is crucial since there is no significant prediction criterion for developing neonatal thrombocytopenia and associated morbidities.

Urethrocutaneous fistula (UCF) is one of the most common complications occurring after hypospadias repair. Despite the surgical advancement in hypospadias, multiple failed fistula closures are commonly referred to paediatric urologists. Although several techniques have been described to interpose a waterproof layer between urethral and skin closures, occurrence of urethrocutaneous fistula cannot be eliminated completely. In addition to several local tissue grafts, autologous and homologous fibrin sealants are used to prevent UCF. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is known as an autologous source of growth factors obtained from the sera of the patient. PRF supports collagen synthesis and tissue repair and accelerates wound healing. We aimed to present our initial experience about the use of autologous PRF in a 3-year-old boy with a UCF after hypospadias repair.

BACKGROUND: Work stress and feeling of entrapment are harmful physical and emotional results for employees when the workload demands exceed their capacities. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effects of the career management system and succession plan on employees' work stress and feelings of entrapment in hopes of improving employees' well-being to promote business continuity. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, the convenient sampling method was adopted. The research was conducted with the participation of call center agents (n = 621) of three call centers in Turkey. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) path analysis was performed on the collected data for hypothesis testing. RESULTS: Both career management systems (CMS) and succession plans (SP) reduce employees' work stress and feelings of entrapment. Work stress was found to mediate the effects of CMS and SP on the Feeling of Entrapment. The CMS reduces the work stress of employees with university degrees than those with a high school diploma. Meanwhile, SP reduces more of the feeling of entrapment for employees newly starting their jobs (with 0-2 years of seniority) than the workers with three or more years of seniority. CONCLUSION: Empirically, the feeling of entrapment seems higher among the employees with three or more years of seniority, suggesting that human resource management should focus on employees' work stress and feeling of job insecurity issues and offer possible and timely solutions. Furthermore, organizations showing care to newly arriving staff and giving them job assurance is believed crucial to improving employees' recruitment and retention.

In this study, 5, 10, and 15 wt% ulexite (NaCaB5O6(ΟH)6·5H2O, hydrated sodium calcium borate hydroxide) and 15 wt %Bi2O3 filled high density polyethylene (HDPE) composite materials were fabricated through conventional melt-extrusion processing techniques in the form of a layered structure in order to absorb both neutron radiations and the secondary radiations resulting from neutron induced reactions. In the layered structure, HDPE was used to slow down neutrons, while ulexite and Bi2O3 were used to capture thermal neutrons and secondary gamma radiations, respectively. The properties of ulexite/HDPE and Bi2O3/HDPE composites were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The mechanical properties (tensile and hardness) of composite materials were also investigated. The results showed that the addition of ulexite and Bi2O3 particles does not change the thermal and mechanical properties of the HDPE composites significantly. Total macroscopic cross-section of the composites was determined using a 239Pu-Be (α,n) neutron source, while their linear and mass attenuation coefficients were determined using a137Cs gamma-ray source. The results show that ulexite filled HDPE composites enhance neutron shielding property and Bi2O3 filled HDPE composites provide good shielding performance for gamma rays.

AIM: Diagnostic problems may be encountered in Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections by serological tests and HBV DNA can be detectable in plasma and liver tissue while the HBsAg test is negative. This situation can be defined as occult or isolated Anti-HBc infections. Occult HBV infections may be divided into two categories by using hepatitis markers. One of them being that all hepatitis markers are negative and the other situation is having Anti-HBc +/- and Anti-HBs+patterns. These situations can be seen in isolated Anti-HBc cases. METHOD: In this study, we aimed to detect the ratio of occult HBV infections by investigating HBV DNA in four different groups. These groups are: (1) 20 isolated Anti-HBc positive individuals, (2) 23 individuals naturally immune to HBV infection, (3) 20 individuals with seronegative hepatitis markers and high ALT levels, and (4) 23 vaccinated individuals against HBV. In order to detect HBV DNA the real-time PCR kit (QIAGEN, Artus HBV RG PCR Kit, Germany) with high analytical sensitivity (≤3.8IU/ml) was used. RESULTS: The reliability of the molecular methods was assessed by increasing the quantitation standards of internal, external and also positive controls. No HBV DNA was detected in any of the 86 individuals consisting of four study groups. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, we did not detect occult HBV infection in our four study groups by using a high sensitivity real-time (RT) PCR method, while occult HBV infections with various frequencies were detected in other large, serial international studies in which highly sensitive analytical molecular methods were used. Although we also used a high standard molecular kit to detect occult HBV infections, we suggest that the reason for the absence of detection of occult HBV infections may be due to the small number of cases included in this study. However, it was assumed that the use of a nucleic acid amplification technology (NAT) with high analytical sensitivity in blood banks to prevent HBV transmission by blood transfusion is controversial due to both costs and diagnostic efficacy and for this reason we suggest that it will be useful to perform large serial studies regarding occult HBV infections in the future.

It is important to detect recent and new HIV/1 infections and to take preventative measures in order to prevent rapid disease progression in AIDS and to decrease the incidence of infection. We aimed to detect long standing or recent HIV infections by determining transmission times for the cases in which first-time HIV/1 seropositivity were detected. The serum samples of 323 cases which were found to be seropositive by ELISA and Western-blotting were included in this study. The discrimination between long-term and recent HIV/1 infection was made by determining transmission-time with the Aware BED-EIA, HIV-1 incidence test (IgG capture HIV-EIA) tests. Ninety-six healthy blood donors who did not have a positive anti-HIV test and a chronic infectious disease for at least 1 year were included in this study as a negative healthy control group. In the discrimination of long-term and recent HIV/1 infections, only in vitro ODn values were used. The cases with normalized optical density (OD) (OD(specimen)/OD(calibrator))<0.8 by commercial kit were accepted as recent HIV infection (155 days history or seroconversion less than 6 months). The cases with ODn >1.2 were accepted as long-term HIV/1 infections (more than 155 days history or more than 6 months). The cases with ODn between 0.8 and 1.2 were accepted as "additional tests needed" cases. We detected recent HIV/1 infections (<6 months) in 60 (18.5%) out of 323 cases and long-term HIV/1 infections (>6 months) in 263 (81.5%) out of 323 cases. The most frequently encountered transmission route in long-term and recent HIV/1 infections was heterosexual sexual intercourse as 54 (50%) and 257 (97%), respectively. 63.3% of newly infected patients were married females and 65.3% of recently infected patients were males. In conclusion, the detection of the high ratio of long-term HIV/1 infection cases (81.5%) compared to recent infections (18.5%) suggested to us, that the long standing cases may have some activities related with transmission of HIV/1 in the past. The detection of higher HIV/1-infections in individuals which had heterosexual sex and also in married males suggested that this situation poses a very great threat for the health of society.

It is known that some of the enzymes and substances secreted by 2nd and 3rd stages of the Lucilia sericata larvae to have bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects. From this point of view, we investigated the anti-leishmanial effect of larval secretions of the L. sericata on the Leishmania tropica both in vitro and in vivo conditions. In vitro: It was observed that promastigotes of L. tropica had undergone lyzis within 1 min in the larval secretions of L. sericata. However, larval secretion was ineffective on the promastigotes within Novy-MacNeal-Nicolle (NNN) cultures and RPMI 1640 medium. In vivo: Seven groups of male Balb/C mice (6 study groups and 1 control group), each composed of eight weeks old 10 mice were formed. L. tropica promastigotes were injected subcutaneosly to the soles of the SG mice' feet. In study groups, cutaneous lesions were developed Limoncu et al., 1997 in 2 (20%) and 1 (10%) of the SG-1 and SG-2, respectively after 15 days. There were L. tropica in the smears prepared from the lesions and L. tropica was observed in the cultures. Cutaneous lesions were not developed in 8 (80%), 9 (90%) and 10 (100%) of the SG-I, SG-II and SG-III, respectively. There were no cutaneous lesions developed in the soles of the feet. There were no L. tropica in the smears prepared from the infected soles of the feet neither L. tropica was observed in the cultures. Larval secretions were given into the cutaneous lesions to the feet soles of the SG-IV, V and VI mice after 6 months. No healing was observed in the cutaneos lesions of 4 (40%), 5 (50%) and 1 (10%) of SG-IV, SG-V and SG-VI, after 6 months, respectively. There were L. tropica in the smears prepared from the lesions and L. tropica was observed in the cultures. On the other hand, the lesions of 6 (60%), 5 (50%) and 9 (90%) of SG-IV, SG-V and SG-VI were diminished in size and disappeared completely after 6 months. There were L. tropica observed in the smears prepared from the infected soles of the feet and no growth was observed in the cultures. In the smears prepared from the cutaneous lesions developed in the soles of the feet of the control group mice, L. tropica was visualized and observed in the cultures. A statistical significant difference was observed between study groups and control group (p<0.001). In our study we demonstrated for the first time that the secretions of the 2nd and 3rd stages sterile and pure larvae of L. sericata had effects on promastigotes of L. tropica in in vitro and very effective on amastigote forms in in vivo conditions.

RESUMO

Breast masses are very rare in infants and premature telarche due to excessive endogen or exogenous estrogens is the most common presentation during infancy. Myofibroblastoma is a stromal tumor of the breast, occurring especially in elder males. This breast mass has a close relationship between androgen receptors and has not been reported in infants previously. A 10-month old male baby with a left breast mass, which is diagnosed as myofibroblastoma, is discussed to evaluate the clinical features and treatment modalities of breast myofibroblastomas in children.

At the present time cancer is one of the biggest health problems and because of the problems encountered in its treatment, alternative treatment methods of herbal origin are researched. In this study, the cytotoxic effects of the essential oil extracted from the Micromeria congesta plant on various cancer cells (A549, ECC-1, HCT-116, HELA, HGC-27, MDA-MB-231, SNU-423, U20S, DLD-1, PC-3) and normal cells (BEAS-2B, CRL-4010) have been examined. Anticancer mechanism of action has been particularly examined on gastric cancer (HGC-27; IC50: 15.84 µg mL-1), on which essential oil showed a high cytotoxic effect. In the study, the cytotoxic effect and the apoptotic effect have been applied by MTT and flow cytometric annexin-V methods, respectively. The apoptotic gene expression (caspase 3, caspase 9, MMP2, MMP9, ACTB) real-time PCR content analysis has been performed with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). M. congesta essentials oil has the highest cytotoxic effect on gastric cancer (HGC-27) cells, decreases MMP2 and MMP9 expressions, and induces apoptosis with increasing the expression of caspase 3 and caspase 8 genes. In addition, it has been determined that piperitenone oxide (40.00 - 45.00%), pulegone (11.00%) and cyclohexanone (18.00 - 19.00%) are the major components of M. congesta essentials oil. In conclusion, it has been determined that the compounds found in high amounts in M. congesta plant induces apoptosis by affecting the expression of compound genes and thus can have the potential to be an alternative drug in the treatment of gastric cancer.

Long lockdowns, food shortages, and the inability to receive basic primary healthcare have aggravated the effects of pandemics. However, most studies have focused on the health problems of the infected people or the measures employed to keep the disease under control. This cross-sectional study focused primarily on the mental health issues of employees. By employing a convenient sampling method, we reached 237 respondents (135 with coronavirus history) to assess the impact of the pandemic on employees. Multivariate causal relationships were assessed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The predictors included internal entrapment (INT) and difficulty identifying feelings (DIF), which are significant predictors of depression (DEPR). DIF was found to be a significant predictor of INT and EXT feelings, while FEAR was found to be a significant predictor of INT, DIF, and DEPR. Quality of life (QoL) was found to be a significant predictor of DIF and DDF, DEPR, EXT and INT, and FEAR. The results also showed that DIF mainly manifested its effect on depression through INT. The DEPR level of employees working only from home was higher than that of other employees. The depression levels of women, young employees, and those whose QoL was adversely affected by the coronavirus were higher than the rest.

Despite substantial studies on COVID-19 and the problems employees face, the association between COVID-19 and resigning jobs has not caught the interest of researchers. Millions have already resigned from their employment, and more are expected to resign. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the demographics of employees, the course of COVID-19, perceived effect of COVID-19 on life (PEoC), fear, entrapment feeling, depression, and quitting the job during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was designed, and a convenient sampling method was adopted. Data were collected via an online questionnaire and analyzed by using SPSS version 26. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to reveal the relationship. Coefficients and significance values were used to interpret the results. Independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA are used to determine the difference across the groups. The correlation between depression and work location is statistically significant. The PEoC increases fear, internal and external entrapment, and depression. Despite the statistically significant correlations between quitting jobs and the education level, internal and external entrapment, PEoC, fear, and depression for employees who have COVID-19 history, quitting the job was found to be affected only by COVID-19 history, internal entrapment feeling, and education level. This study has shown that quitting the job is associated with PEoC, depression, and internal and external entrapments. The correlation between quitting jobs and other conditions differs depending on the COVID-19 history of the employee. Furthermore, quitting the job is being affected by the coronavirus history, the internal entrapment, and education level.

OBJECTIVES: In this study, we examined the antibody responses after recombinant hepatitis B vaccine in juvenile SLE patients and whether antibody levels were affected by immunosuppressive therapy. METHODS: This study consisted of 64 juvenile SLE patients and 24 healthy controls. We evaluated HBsAg, Anti-HBs and Anti-HbcIgG titers in SLE patients. 24 patients (37%) were non-immunised, 39 patients were immunised (61%) and 1 patient (1.5%) was chronic hepatitis B carrier. Of the 24 non-immunised patients, 3 had active disease (SLEDAI>10) and 1 was being treated for tuberculosis infection so they were not included in the vaccination program. Twenty non-immunised SLE patients were given 3 dose recombinant hepatitis B vaccine doses at 0,1,6 months. AntiHBs antibody titer >10 IU/ml one month after the last dose of vaccine was accepted as seroconversion. RESULTS: After 3 doses of vaccination, 16 (80%) of SLE patients and all of the healthy controls had seroconversion. Since two patients had SLEDAI score >10 after the first 2 doses of vaccine and one patient had SLEDAI score >10 after the first dose, these patients were given only two doses of hepatitis B vaccine. These patients had already seroconverted. One patient had exacerbation of the disease one month after the third dose of the vaccine. Protective antibody responses were statistically insignificant between the two groups (p=0.49). Geometric mean antibody titers of SLE patients were lower than those of the healthy controls. Adequate antibody response was not affected by immunosuppressive treatment as prednisone, azathioprine, and hydroxychloroquine. CONCLUSIONS: Juvenile SLE patients could reach an adequate antibody response after recombinant hepatitis B vaccination and this response is not affected by immunosuppressive treatment.

In between the dates of February 2008-March 2009, by applying to Istanbul University CTF Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Basic Sciences Branch and Duzen laboratories, 123 cases, where HCV RNA and anti-HCV positivity are identified with molecular (real-time PCR) and serologic (ELISA) methods as a positive control group, and 48 cases where HCV RNA and anti-HCV negativity are identified as a negative control group are established. The values of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative approximation of recently developed HCV Core Ag (Abbott Diagnostics, Germany) kit are determined successively as 94.3%, 97.9%, 99.1%, 87%, 95.3% and 88%. Although the new HCV Ag assay is clearly not sensitive enough to replace HCV NAT it may serve as a valuable tool in the HCV diagnostic algorithm as it is able to pick up a great majority of anti-HCV and HCV RNA positive samples, thus allowing a timely and less expensive serological diagnosis of an active HCV infection. This may be an advantage for labs that do not have access to PCR easily.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a disease that was prominent with increased inflammation response in immune system, appeared mostly with peripheral arthritis and endogenous and exogenous antigens play a role in the pathogenesis of disease. Two major reasons were thinking to be considerably important. First of them is immunological predisposition and the second one is environmental factors. Infections are considered to be the most important between environmental factors but also stress and trauma are also important in the etiology of the disease. However, the relation between JIA and infections is not clearly defined but the relation between adult chronic arthritis and infections was well-defined. A total of 70 patients, 26 with primer JIA, 20 with recurrent JIA, 24 healthy control were included in this study. Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydophila pneumoniae and C. Jejuni were detected in 4, 1 and 1 of 10 (38.46%) patients with primer JIA, respectively. Salmonella enteritidis, EBV, M. pneumoniae, C. jejuni and Borrelia burgdorferi were detected in 1, 2, 2, 2, and 1 of the 8(40%) patients with recurrent JIA, respectively. S. enteritidis were isolated in feces culture and also identified by agglutination method. Infection was detected in total 18 (39.13%) of patient groups. C. pneumoniae and C. jejuni were detected in 1 and 1 of 2(8.33) healthy control groups, respectively. Throat culture positivity was not detected in any of the patient and healthy control groups. In conclusion, etiopathogenesis of JIA is not clearly understood and suggested that various factors can trigger the disease and it is the most common rheumatoid disease of childhood. However, there are some studies focusing especially on one infectious agent but this is the first study including such a big range of infectious agents in the literature for the microorganisms that can be suggested to have a role in the etiopathogenesis of JIA. We have a conclusion in the light of our results and suggest that some microorganisms can trigger and increase the intensity of clinical situation according to the case. When we evaluate the primer and recurrent JIA groups; M. pneumoniae and C. jejuni come forward and seen common in JIA cases. We also suggest that the pre-diagnosis of microorganisms, which can play a role as primarily or by intervening in the etiopathogenesis of JIA and adding specific antimicrobial therapy to the standard JIA therapy, it is possible to perform new, extended, especially molecular based serial case studies.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is the larval cystic stage (called echinococcal cysts) of a small taeniid-type tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus). Carnivores such as dogs are usually definitive hosts. Intermediate hosts are typically herbivores such as sheep and cattle. CE can be detected using various imaging techniques such as ultrasonography or radiology. Moreover the primary diagnosis has to be confirmed by serological tests since the clinical signs of the disease are non-specific. This study examined the antigenic band patterns useful for serologic diagnosis of hydatidosis. We also report on the post-operative evolution of patients treated for this disease and also determined the diagnostic performance of Western blot IgG kit. Twenty-five (16 females and 9 males) non-operated patients with hydatid cysts (NOP) and 33 (21 females and 12 males) operated patients with hydatid cysts (OP) were included as study group and 22 healthy individuals (14 females and 8 males) with no known chronic diseases were included as a control group. The ages of the patients and control group individuals were between 16-83 years. Patient and control groups were matched for age and sex. Cyst hydatid IgG antibodies were detected in the sera from all patient groups but no antibodies were found in the sera from the control group using ELISA IgG method. Twenty-three (92%) non-operated patients and 18 (54.5%) operated patients exhibited positive results when Western blot IgG kit was used. The P7 band pattern was detected in the sera from all operated and non-operated patients. Twenty-seven of these positive cases had p7 and (p7+p16/18), (p7+p24/26) or (p7+p16/18+p24/26). No antibodies against p7, p16/18 ve p24/26 band patterns were seen in sera from the control group A statistically significant difference was detected between operated and nonoperated patients for Western blot positivity.(p<0.01). p: 0.018- X2=5,604- OR: 0.176- 95% CI: 0.037- 0.841. The sensitivity, specificity, positive prediction and negative prediction values of Echinococcus granulosus Western blot kit for 25 cases with CE and 22 healthy controls were calculated as 92%, 100%, 100% and 91.7%, respectively. In conclusion, we suggest that monitoring p7 in all non-operated patients may be useful to determine the efficiacy of medical treatment and that monitoring p7 antibodies using serological and Western blot methods in operated patients may be useful for the screening of post-operative evolution in patients with hydatid cyst.
