RESUMO

Speckle is a significant challenge for laser imaging systems, as it degrades the image quality. In this study, an improved theoretical model is established to describe the speckle features in free-space optical path. The model quantitatively defines the relationship between speckle contrast and five parameters: wavelength, screen surface roughness, light-spot diameter, incidence angle, and observation angle. Subsequently, the theoretical results are experimentally verified. This study enhances the theory of speckle suppression in free-space optical path, and thus enriches the existing speckle suppression theory. The speckle features based on free-space surface-scattered fields have the potential for applications related to non-imaging optics.

Inclination monitoring plays a significant role in research on deformation monitoring of slopes, inclination monitoring of bridges, earthquake monitoring, and other areas of monitoring. Existing electromagnetic signal-based inclinometers face practical issues such as difficulty adapting to harsh environments, poor large-scale networking capabilities, and unstable signal transmission. Hence, what we believe to be a novel inclinometer based on fiber sensing principles is proposed. The sensor employs suspension sensing based on the plumb principle, using bearings to overcome mechanical friction caused by rigid fixation between the mass block and the cantilever, thereby improving sensitivity and accuracy of the sensor. Key structural parameters of the sensor were optimized and simulated, followed by fabrication of the sensor and performance test on an inclination test platform. Experimental results indicate that, within a measurement range of ±9∘, the sensor exhibited a sensitivity of 305.2 pm/°, a resolution of approximately 3.3×10-4 ∘, an accuracy of 2%, a repeatability error of 1.9%, and favorable creep resistance stability for long-term measurement, thus addressing the requirements for slope deformation monitoring.

Current static speckle suppression methods have an extremely large system size and unsatisfactory performance. This study proposes a device called beam-splitting cavity (BSC) and establishes a model of speckle suppression based on the combination of BSC and a liquid-core fiber. Subsequently, a passive static speckle suppression system is constructed and the key factors affecting the speckle contrast are studied. Consequently, the speckle contrast was reduced from 30.2% to 3.1%, which is below the human-eye speckle-discrimination limit (<4%). The scheme consists entirely of passive optical elements, which are more applicable to projectors than the traditional static and dynamic speckle-suppression methods.

Few studies have examined the psychological impact on adolescents of family confinement and infection exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these surveys lacked follow-up data to determine how the family confinement affects participants' depression and anxiety. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychological status and related risk and protective factors of adolescents after two months of family confinement for preventing COVID-19 in China, and compare them with baseline data. We surveyed teenagers in January 2020 before the COVID-19 outbreak (T1) and after home confinement (T2). We used the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Scale and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). 13,637 valid questionnaires were collected at T1, of which 22.34% reported depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 ≥ 10) and 14.42% reported anxiety symptoms (GAD-7 ≥ 10). At T2, the rates decreased to 14.86 and 7.44%, respectively (all P < 0.0001). Of the adolescents, 223 reported potential risk of exposure to COVID-19. We then compared them to the 9639 non-risk adolescents using a propensity score matching analysis. The adolescents with potential exposure risk had higher rates of depression (26.91 vs 15.32%, P = 0.0035) and anxiety (14.80 vs 7.21%, P = 0.01) than risk-free adolescents. Among adolescents with an exposure risk, psychological resilience was protective in preventing depression and anxiety symptoms, while emotional abuse, a poor parent-child relationship were risk factors. Long-term home confinement had minimal psychological impact on adolescents, but COVID-19 infection rates accounted for 50% of the variance in depression and anxiety among adolescents even with low community rates.

Although previous studies have established the association between parental marital status and mental health problems in adolescents, however, the adverse effects of incomplete family settings and childhood maltreatment on adolescent anxiety symptoms have not been fully investigated. Moreover, whether childhood maltreatment can mediate the relationship between parental marital status and anxiety symptoms remains unclear. A population-based cross-sectional study was performed among 35,573 adolescents in elementary schools across 17 provinces in China. And childhood maltreatment, resilience, and anxiety symptoms were assessed among adolescents, respectively. The parental marital status was self-reported as having two married biological parents, divorced parents, stepparents, and single-parent. We found that the rates of anxiety symptoms among adolescents were 35.1% in intact families, 48.8% in divorced families, 49% in stepparent families, and 48% in single-parent families. Divorced parents (aOR = 1.191, 95% CI [1.060-1.337]) was an independent risk factor for adolescents' anxiety symptom while having stepparents and single-parent were not. In addition, emotional abuse (aOR = 1.300, 95% CI [1.285-1.316]), sexual abuse (aOR = 1.088, 95% CI [1.063-1.114]), and physical neglect (aOR = 1.019, 95% CI [1.007-1.031]) were all independent risk factors for anxiety symptoms in adolescents, while physical abuse and emotional neglect were not. The negative impacts of divorced and remarried parents on adolescent anxiety symptoms were mediated by childhood maltreatment partially (64.9% and 72.2%), while childhood maltreatment completely mediated the adverse impacts of single-parent on adolescent anxiety symptoms. Childhood maltreatment intervention strategies could be necessary for anxiety symptoms of adolescents in divorced/stepparent/single-parent families.

For many years, seismological research mainly focuses on translational ground motions due to the lack of appropriate sensors. However, because of the development of devices based on Sagnac effect, measuring rotational waves directly comes available. In this work, a portable three-component broadband rotational seismometer named RotSensor3C based on open loop interferometric fiber optic gyroscope (IFOG) is designed and demonstrated. Laboratory tests and results are illustrated in detail. The self-noise ranging from 0.005 Hz to 125 Hz is about 1.2×10-7rads-1/Hz, and with the harmonics compensation the scale factor variation over ±250∘/s is lower than 10 ppm (parts per million). The misalignment matrix method is adopted to revise the output rotation rate. In a special near field experiment using the explosive source, the back-azimuths and phase velocity are estimated by the recorded acceleration and rotation rate. All the results prove the practicability of this new rotational sensor.

Solar panels often suffer from dust accumulation, significantly reducing their output, especially in desert regions where many of the world's largest solar plants are located. Here, an autonomous dust removal system for solar panels, powered by a wind-driven rotary electret generator is proposed. The generator applies a high voltage between one solar panel's output electrode and an upper mesh electrode to generate a strong electrostatic field. It is discovered that dust particles on the insulative glass cover of the panel can be charged under the high electrical field, assisted by adsorbed water, even in low-humidity environments. The charged particles are subsequently repelled from the solar panel with the significant Coulomb force. Two panels covered with sand dust are cleaned in only 6.6 min by a 15 cm diameter rotary electret generator at 1.6 m s-1 wind speed. Experimental results manifest that the system can work effectively in a wide range of environmental conditions, and doesn't impact the panel performance for long-term operation. This autonomous system, with its high dust removal efficiency, simplicity, and low cost, holds great potential in practical applications.

Edible mushroom Antrodia cinnamomea is distinctive for its use in many health supplement products in relieving of diverse health-related conditions. A. cinnamomea is known for its rich array of bioactive secondary metabolites, predominantly terpenoids, that possess anti-inflammatory properties. Despite the abundance of these compounds, only some compounds have demonstrated notable anti-inflammatory activity. Moreover, there is a lack of established quality control methods specifically tailored to the active constituents of these products. Consequently, there is a great need for the development of precise and effective quality control methods for A. cinnamomea-based products, targeting their active components to ensure the consistency and reliability of these products in harnessing their anti-inflammatory potential. Herein we report a quantitative HPLC method for better evaluating the quality of A. cinnamomea based dietary supplements. Based on their bioactivities, we selected ten benchmark compounds, i. e. antcin K, (25S)-antcin H, (25R)-antcin H, (25R)-antcin C, (25S)-antcin C, (25R)-antcin A, 15α-acetyl-dehydrosulphurenic acid, versisponic acid D, dehydroeburicoic acid, and eburicoic acid and developed and validated a HPLC-UV method for quantification of these compounds simultaneously with high sensitivity, linearity and range, precision, and accuracy. Furthermore, we applied our method to quantify the commercially available A. cinnamomea containing supplements and found that the quality of these supplements varies greatly with only one product containing good amount of the active compounds. Our method provides a needed solution to quality control problem of the highly priced A. cinnamomea food and nutraceutical products that show great variety and inconsistency.

Dietary flavones 6,3´,4´-trihydroxyflavone (6,3´,4´-HOFL) and 7,3´,4´-trihydroxyflavone (7,3´,4´-HOFL) showed preliminary antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in a two-dimensional (2D) cell culture model. However, their action mechanisms remain unclear, and the anti-inflammatory activities have not been studied in a reliable three-dimensional (3D) cell model. Therefore, in the current study, the antioxidant potency was examined by their scavenging ability of cellular reactive oxygen species. Anti-inflammatory activities were examined via their inhibitory effects on inflammatory mediators in vitro on 2D and 3D macrophage models, and their mechanisms were determined through transcriptome. In the 3D macrophages, two flavones were less bioactive than they were in 2D macrophages, but they both significantly suppressed the overexpression of proinflammatory mediators in two cell models. The divergent position of the hydroxyl group on the A ring resulted in activity differences. Compared to 6,3´,4´-HOFL, 7,3´,4´-HOFL showed lower activity on NO, IL-1ß suppression, and c-Src binding (IC50: 12.0 and 20.9 µM) but higher ROS-scavenging capacity (IC50: 3.20 and 2.71 µM) and less cytotoxicity. In addition to the IL-17 and TNF pathways of 6,3´,4´-HOFL, 7,3´,4´-HOFL also exerted anti-inflammatory activity through JAK-STAT, as indicated by the RNA-sequencing results. Two flavones showed prominent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities on 2D and 3D models.

Polymyositis (PM) is the most common autoimmune disease in neurology and among muscle disorders; it is of great significance to thoroughly understand the mechanism of PM to find new diagnosis and treatment methods. This research intends to elucidate the clinical implications and mechanisms of complement C1q in polymyositis (PM). One hundred fifteen PM patients (research group, RG) and 120 healthy subjects (control group, CG) who visited our hospital between March 2017 and March 2020 were selected. Peripheral blood C1q and creatine kinase (CK) levels of both groups were measured, and their correlations with clinical symptoms and prognostic recurrence of PM. Additionally, to further understand the mechanism of action of C1q in PM, we purchased BALB/c mice and grouped them as follows: control group with normal feeding, PM group with PM modeling, intervention group with PM modeling, and intraperitoneal injection of gC1qR monoclonal antibody 60.11, a C1q protein receptor. Inflammatory factors and muscle histopathology were detected in all groups of mice. Finally, rat macrophages (mø) were isolated, and changes in the biological behavior of mø were observed after silencing the expression of gC1qR. Serum C1q and CK were both higher in RG than in CG, with favorable diagnostic effects on PM (P < 0.05). C1q and CK increased in symptomatic anti-ribonuclear protein antibody (RNP)-positive patients but decreased in anti Jo-1 antibody (Jo-1)- and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive patients (P < 0.05). PM mice were observed with elevated gC1qR, while model mice exhibited severe infiltration of inflammatory cells in muscle tissue, increased pro-IFs, and reduced anti-IFs, and the animals in the intervention group showed improved conditions (P < 0.05). Finally, it was found that CD68, CD86 protein, and invasion capacity of gC1qR-sh-transfected cells decreased, while CD206 and CD163 increased (P < 0.05). C1q is elevated in PM and is strongly linked to the pathological process of PM. Inhibition of gC1qR expression reduced inflammatory infiltration in PM mice.

Background: The Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic negatively impacts mental health. Some published studies have investigated the prevalence of depression among children and adolescents in China during the pandemic. However, the results vary widely. We aimed to systematically analyze and estimate the prevalence of depressive symptoms and attempted to reveal the reasons for prevalence variety in previous studies. Methods: Published studies were searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP Database), China National Knowledge database (CNKI), and the WanFang database from December 2019 to May 2021. The quality of all included studies was assessed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist and the American Agency for Health Care Quality and Research's (AHRQ) cross-sectional study quality evaluation items. Meta-analysis was performed using random-effects modeling. Results: Of the 1,708 references screened, 13 related reports that involve 41,729 participants were included. The results suggested that the pooled prevalence of depressive symptoms among Chinese children and adolescents during the COVID-19 epidemic was 28.6%. Subgroup analyses showed that the pooled prevalence was highest among the studies using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9 (46.8%) and lowest among these using Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children (DSRSC) (11.4%). All studies using PHQ-9 set the cutoff at 5 points instead of 10. The pooled prevalence of studies that include primary school students was lower (16.5%) than that of studies excluding primary school students (39.1%). Conclusion: The meta-analysis suggests that depressive symptoms were relatively prevalent among Chinese children and adolescents during COVID-19, especially among the secondary school students. The suitable screening tools and cutoff should be carefully chosen in the survey.

Flavones benefit human health through their anti-inflammatory activity; however, their structure-activity relationship is unclear. Herein, we selected 15 flavones with the same backbone but different substituents and systematically assessed their anti-inflammatory activities in RAW 264.7 regarding cellular-Src kinase (c-Src) affinity, suppression of IκBα phosphorylation, inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) and inducible nitric oxidase (iNOS) production, and downregulation of genes of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). Overall, our results showed that the double bond between C2-C3 and C3'- and C4'-OH promoted anti-inflammatory activity, while C8- and C5'-OH and the methoxy group on C4' attenuated the overall anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. The hydroxyl groups at other positions exhibited more complicated functions. The two most effective flavones are 3',4'-dihydroxyflavone and luteolin with inhibitory concentration (IC50) values for inhibiting the LPS-induced nitric oxide level are 9.61 ± 1.36 and 16.90 ± 0.74 µM, respectively. Furthermore, they suppressed the production of iNOS by approximately 90% and inhibited IL-1ß and IL-6 by more than 95%. Taken together, our results established a relationship between the flavone structure and anti-inflammatory activity in vitro.

Antrodia cinnamomea is a precious edible mushroom originating from Taiwan that has been popularly used for adjuvant hepatoprotection and anti-inflammation; however, the chemical principle for its anti-inflammatory activity has not been elucidated, which prevents the quality control of related products. Using the RAW264.7 model for the anti-inflammatory activity assay as a guide, we reported the isolation and structural elucidation of three potent anti-inflammatory compounds from isolated ergostanes (16) and lanostanes (6). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis including NMR and HR-QTOF-MS. Particularly, the absolute configurations of (25R)-antcin K, (25R)-antcin A, versisponic acid D, and (25R)-antcin C were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). The representative and most promising compound antcin A was shown to suppress pro-inflammatory biomolecule release via the down-regulation of iNOS and COX-2 expression through the NF-κB pathway while the mRNA levels of IL-1ß, TNF-α and IL-6 were also decreased. The high dependency on structural variation and activity suggests that there might be special biological targets for antcin A. Our work makes it possible to develop evidence-based dietary supplements from Antrodia cinnamomea based on anti-inflammatory constituents.

BACKGROUND: The impact of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on public mental health in 2019 is verified, but the role of only-child status in the mental health of adolescents confined at home during the COVID-19 epidemic has not been investigated and is not clear. OBJECTIVE: Our study aims to assess the impact of only-child status on the mental health of adolescents confined at home during the COVID-19 outbreak. The exposure risk to COVID-19, adverse experience, parent-child relationship, and resilience have also been measured and considered. METHODS: From March 20 to 31, 2020, a cross-sectional survey test was conducted on 11,681 adolescents aged from 12 to 18 years in middle schools (Grade 7 to Grade 9) across five provinces in China. The self-reported online questionnarie was used to collected data of demographic information, the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire, the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale, the short form of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and the exposure risk to COVID-19. RESULTS: A total of 11,180 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective rate of 95.7%. 35.2% of only children and 38.8% of non-only children reported depression symptoms, while 20.5% of only children and 24.7% of non-only children reported anxiety symptoms. It was significant that non-only children were more likely to have anxiety and depression symptoms than only children (OR = 1.164, 95%CI: 1.064-1.273, p = 0.001). The risk of exposure to COVID-19 was a risk factor of depression (OR = 2.284, 95%CI: 1.640-3.180, p < 0.001) and anxiety symptoms (OR = 1.959, 95%CI: 1.402-2.737, p < 0.001) in non-only children, but not in only children. For both only children and non-only children, the resilience and parent-child relationship were protective factors of depression and anxiety symptoms, while emotional abuse was a risk factor (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The non-only children are more likely to develop the symptoms of anxiety and depression than only children, during the outbreak of COVID-19 in China. The adolescents with siblings are psychiatrically more vulnerable to exposure risk of COVID-19 and need more attention, especially those with poor parent-child relationship, low resilience and experience of emotional abuse.

Electrochemical oxygen reduction is a promising method for in situ H2O2 production. Its important precondition is that dissolved oxygen molecules have to diffuse to and arrive at the cathode surface for reacting with electrons. Obviously, shortening the diffusion distance is beneficial to improve the reaction efficiency. In this study, a novel microchannel aeration mode was proposed to confine the diffusion distance of O2 to the micrometer level. For this mode, an aeration cathode was fabricated from a carbon block with microchannel arrays. The diameter of each channel was only 10-40 µm. Oxygen will be pumped into every microchannel from the top entry, while an aqueous solution will permeate into microchannels through the bottom entry and pores in the channel wall. This microchannel aeration cathode exhibited a H2O2 yield of up to 4.34 mg h-1 cm-2, about eight times higher than that of the common bubbling aeration mode. The corresponding energy consumption was only 7.35 kWh kg-1, which was superior to most reported results. In addition to H2O2, this aeration cathode may also produce •OH via a one-electron reduction of H2O2. In combination with H2O2 and •OH, phenol, sulfamethoxazole, and atrazine were degraded effectively. We expect that this microchannel aeration cathode may inspire researchers focused on H2O2 production, water pollutant control, and other multiphase interfacial reactions.

Flavones are an important class of bioactive constituents in foods, and their structural diversity enables them to interact with different targets. In particular, flavones are known for their anti-inflammatory activity. Herein, we summarized commonly applied in vitro, in vivo, and clinical models in testing anti-inflammatory activity of flavones. The anti-inflammatory structure-activity relationship of flavones was systematically mapped and supported with cross comparisons of that with flavanones, flavanols, and isoflavones. Hydroxyl groups (-OH) are indispensable for the anti-inflammatory function of flavones, and -OH at the C-5 and C-4' positions enhance while -OH at the C-6, C-7, C-8, and C-3' positions attenuate their activity. Moreover, the C2-C3 single bond, -OH at the C-3 and B-ring positions undermine flavone aglycones' activity. Most of the flavone aglycones function through NF-κB, MAPK, and JNK-STAT pathways, and their possible cell binding targets are kinase, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), G-protein coupled receptors, and estrogen receptors. However, the structure and anti-inflammatory activity relationship of flavones were unclear, and further research shall be conducted to close the gap in order to guide development of evidence-based functional foods.

The aim of the study was to describe the electroclinical features of visual sensitivity in patients with familial cortical myoclonic tremor and epilepsy. We searched the EEG database using the terms "familial cortical myoclonic tremor and epilepsy" and "visual sensitivity" over a seven-year period from March 2013 to April 2020 in the Xijing hospital, Xi'an, China. The inclusion criteria were demonstrable electroclinical visual sensitivity in the form of eye-opening sensitivity, eye-closure sensitivity, eyes-closed sensitivity and photosensitivity. Clinical, EEG and imaging records of patients were screened, and subsequently, detailed analysis of their data was undertaken. We enrolled six patients with visual sensitivity, five of whom suffered with rare generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Neuroimaging was negative in all cases. All patients demonstrated photosensitivity; eye-opening sensitivity associated with cortical myoclonic in one patient, eyes-closed sensitivity associated with cortical myoclonic tremor status in three patients, and eye-closure sensitivity in two patients. At the last follow-up visit, cortical myoclonic tremor and epilepsy in all patients was well controlled with first-line treatment. Visual sensitivity is therefore likely to be an important reflex trait in some patients with familial cortical myoclonic tremor and epilepsy, and should be routinely evaluated in order to better define the electroclinical features in FCMTE syndrome. Inflammation plays an essential role in the human immune system, and anti-inflammatory compounds are important to promote health. However, the in vitro screening of these compounds is largely dependent on flat biology. Herein, we report our efforts in establishing a 3D inflammation murine macrophage model. Murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells were cultured on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) scaffolds fabricated through an electrohydrodynamic jetting 3D printer and their behavior were examined. Cells on PCL scaffolds showed a 3D shape and morphology with multilayers and a lower proliferation rate. Moreover, macrophages were not activated by scaffold material PCL and 3D microenvironment. The 3D cells showed greater sensitivity to lipopolysaccharide stimulation with higher production activity of nitric oxide (NO), nitric oxide synthases (iNOS), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Additionally, the 3D macrophage model showed lower drug sensitivity to commercial anti-inflammatory drugs including aspirin, ibuprofen, and dexamethasone, and natural flavones apigenin and luteolin with higher IC50 for NO production and lower iNOS and COX-2 inhibition efficacy. Overall, the 3D macrophage model showed promise for higher accurate screening of anti-inflammatory compounds. We developed, for the first time, a 3D macrophage model based on a 3D-printed PCL scaffold that provides an extracellular matrix environment for cells to grow in the 3D dimension. 3D-grown RAW 264.7 cells showed different sensitivities and responses to anti-inflammatory compounds from its 2D model. The 3D cells have lower sensitivity to both commercial and natural anti-inflammatory compounds. Consequently, our 3D macrophage model could be applied to screen anti-inflammatory compounds more accurately and thus holds great potential in next-generation drug screening applications.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Morinda officinalis oligosaccharide (MOO) capsules for depressive disorder. METHODS: Eight electronic databases were searched for relevant studies from inception to April 19, 2020. Randomized controlled trials comparing MOO capsules with antidepressants were included. Data analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.3 software. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool, and the quality of the studies was evaluated by two researchers using the Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) software. RESULTS: Seven studies involving 1,384 participants were included in this study. The effect of MOO capsules for moderate depressive disorder was not different from that of antidepressants (risk ratio [RR] = 0.99, 95%CI 0.92-1.06). Regarding adverse events, no significant difference was found between MOO capsules and antidepressants (RR = 0.84, 95%CI 0.65-1.07). In addition, the quality of evidence related to these adverse events was rated as low. CONCLUSION: This systematic review suggests that the efficacy of MOO capsules in the treatment of mild to moderate depression is not inferior to that of conventional antidepressants, which may provide a new direction for clinical alternative selection of antidepressants. However, more high-quality research and detailed assessments are needed.

BACKGROUND: In this study, chromium (III) complex was synthesized from genistein (GEN) which had good hypoglycemic activity and inorganic chromium (III) element, and its hypoglycemic activity and sub-acute toxicity were studied. METHODS: The genistein-chromium (III) complex was synthesized by chelating chromium with genistein in ethanol and its structure was determined by LC-MS, atomic absorption spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, elemental and thermodynamic analysis. The anti-diabetic activity of the complex was assessed in db/db mice and C57 mice by daily oral gavage for 4 weeks. The sub-acute toxicity test was carried out on KM mice with this complex. RESULTS: The molecular structure of this complex was inferred as a complex [CrGEN3] formed by three ligands and one chromium element. The complex could significantly improve the body weight of db/db mice, fasting blood glucose, random blood glucose, organ index, glycogen levels and the performance of OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) and ITT (Insulin Tolerance Test) in db/db mice (p < 0.05). The morphology of liver, kidney, pancreas and skeletal muscle also had obviously improvement and repairment. Effects on serum indices and antioxidant enzymes activities of db/db mice showed that the serum profiles and antioxidant ability of complex group had significant improvement compared with the diabetic control group (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01), and some indices even returned to normal levels. In addition, this complex did not produce any hazardous symptoms or deaths in sub-acute toxicity test. High dose of [CrGEN3] had no significant influence on serum indices and antioxidant capacity in normal mice, and the organ tissues maintained organized and integrity in the sub-acute toxicity study. CONCLUSION: The study of the genistein-chromium (III) complex showed that the complex had good hypoglycemic activity in vivo, and did not have the potential toxicity. These results would provide an important reference for the development of functional hypoglycemic foods or pharmaceuticals.
