PURPOSE: Awake extubation and deep extubation are commonly used anesthesia techniques. In this study, the safety of propofol-assisted deep extubation in the dental treatment of children was assessed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children with severe caries who received dental treatment under general anesthesia and deep extubation between January 2017 and June 2023 were included in this study. Data were collected on the following variables: details and time of anesthesia, perioperative vital signs, and incidence of postoperative complications. The incidence of laryngeal spasm (LS) was considered to be the primary observation indicator. RESULTS: The perioperative data obtained from 195 children undergoing dental treatment was reviewed. The median age was 4.2 years (range: 2.3 to 9.6 years), and the average duration of anesthesia was 2.56 h (range 1 to 4.5 h). During intubation with a videoscope, purulent mucus was found in the pharyngeal cavity of seven children (3.6%); LS occurred in five of them (2.6%), and one child developed a fever (T = 37.8 °C) after discharge. Five children (2.6%) experienced emergence agitation (EA) in the recovery room. Also, 13 children (6.7%) experienced epistaxis; 10 had a mild experience and three had a moderate experience. No cases of airway obstruction (AO) and hypoxemia were recorded. The time to open eyes (TOE) was 16.3 ± 7.2 min. The incidence rate of complications was 23/195 (11.8%). Emergency tracheal reintubation was not required. Patients with mild upper respiratory tract infections showed a significantly higher incidence of complications (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Propofol-assisted deep extubation is a suitable technique that can be used for pediatric patients who exhibited non-cooperation in the outpatient setting. Epistaxis represents the most frequently encountered complication. Preoperative upper respiratory tract infection significantly increases the risk of complications. The occurrence of EA was notably lower than reported in other studies.

INTRODUCTION: Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a condition characterised by the presence of gelatinous tumour-like growth within the peritoneal cavity. Combined cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy have shown to improve the survival rate in PMP patients. However, post-operative complications such as cognitive dysfunction, respiratory insufficiency and acute renal failure are still observed. This retrospective study aims to explore the risk factors associated with major post-operative complications and specifically investigate the correlation with intraoperative hypotension. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included PMP patients treated at Beijing Aerospace Center Hospital from 1 June, 2014 to 30 December, 2020. The primary outcome measures were major post-operative complications, including neurological, pulmonary, cardiovascular, surgical complications, acute hepatic injury and acute kidney injuries. The secondary outcome measures included infection, fever and deep venous thrombosis. Statistical analysis was conducted using EmpowerStats and R software. RESULTS: A total of 782 patients were screened, and 668 patients were included in the statistical analysis. Amongst them, 234 (35.03%) individuals experienced major post-operative complications. Factors such as pre-operative American Society of Anaesthesiologists grading, age, haemoglobin and albumin levels, intraoperative mean arterial pressure, blood loss, fluid replacement volume, method of intraperitoneal hyperthermic perfusion and post-operative requirement for intensive care unit mechanical ventilation were found to be correlated with major complications. CONCLUSION: The identified risk factors provide valuable insights for improving clinical pathways in the management of PMP. Further prospective studies are warranted to establish the association between these factors and patient outcomes.

Anxiety disorders are a series of mental disorders characterized by anxiety and fear, but the molecular basis of these disorders remains unclear. In the present study, we find that the global Slack KO male mice exhibit anxious behaviors, whereas the Slack Y777H male mice manifest anxiolytic behaviors. The expression of Slack channels is rich in basolateral amygdala (BLA) glutamatergic neurons and downregulated in chronic corticosterone-treated mice. In addition, electrophysiological data show enhanced excitability of BLA glutamatergic neurons in the Slack KO mice and decreased excitability of these neurons in the Slack Y777H mice. Furthermore, the Slack channel deletion in BLA glutamatergic neurons is sufficient to result in enhanced avoidance behaviors, whereas Kcnt1 gene expression in the BLA or BLA-ventral hippocampus (vHPC) glutamatergic projections reverses anxious behaviors of the Slack KO mice. Our study identifies the role of the Slack channel in controlling anxious behaviors by decreasing the excitability of BLA-vHPC glutamatergic projections, providing a potential target for anxiolytic therapies.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Anxiety disorders are a series of mental disorders characterized by anxiety and fear, but the molecular basis of these disorders remains unclear. Here, we examined the behaviors of loss- and gain-of-function of Slack channel mice in elevated plus maze and open field tests and found the anxiolytic role of the Slack channel. By altering the Slack channel expression in the specific neuronal circuit, we demonstrated that the Slack channel played its anxiolytic role by decreasing the excitability of BLA-vHPC glutamatergic projections. Our data reveal the role of the Slack channel in the regulation of anxiety, which may provide a potential molecular target for anxiolytic therapies.

Breast cancer (BRCA) cells typically exist in nutrient-deficient microenvironments and quickly adapt to states with fluctuating nutrient levels. The tumor microenvironment of starvation is intensely related to metabolism and the malignant progression of BRCA. However, the potential molecular mechanism has not been thoroughly scrutinized. As a result, this study aimed to dissect the prognostic implications of mRNAs involved in the starvation response and construct a signature for forecasting the outcomes of BRCA. In this research, we investigated how starvation could affect BRCA cells' propensities for invasion and migration. The effects of autophagy and glucose metabolism mediated by starved stimulation were examined through transwell assays, western blot, and the detection of glucose concentration. A starvation response-related gene (SRRG) signature was ultimately generated by integrated analysis. The risk score was recognized as an independent risk indicator. The nomogram and calibration curves revealed that the model had excellent prediction accuracy. Functional enrichment analysis indicated this signature was significantly enriched in metabolic-related pathways and energy stress-related biological processes. Furthermore, phosphorylated protein expression of the model core gene EIF2AK3 increased after the stimulus of starvation, and EIF2AK3 may play an essential role in the progression of BRCA in the starved microenvironment. To sum up, we constructed and validated a novel SRRG signature that could accurately predict outcomes and may be developed as a therapeutic target for the precise treatment of BRCA.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the association between CT signs and clinicopathological features and disease recurrence in patients with hepatoid adenocarcinoma of stomach (HAS). METHODS: Forty nine HAS patients undergoing radical surgery were retrospectively collected. Association between CT and clinicopathological features and disease recurrence was analyzed. Multivariate logistic model was constructed and evaluated for predicting recurrence by using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Survival curves between model-defined risk groups was compared using Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: 24(49.0%) patients developed disease recurrence. Multivariate logistic analysis results showed elevated serum CEA level, peritumoral fatty space invasion and positive pathological vascular tumor thrombus were independent factors for disease recurrence. Odds ratios were 10.87 (95%CI, 1.14-103.66), 6.83 (95%CI, 1.08-43.08) and 42.67 (95%CI, 3.66-496.85), respectively. The constructed model showed an area under ROC of 0.912 (95%CI,0.825-0.999). The model-defined high-risk group showed poorer overall survival and recurrence-free survival than the low-risk group (both P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative CT appearance of peritumoral fatty space invasion, elevated serum CEA level, and pathological vascular tumor thrombus indicated poor prognosis of HAS patients.

PURPOSE: All-inside anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair using anchors is frequently used to manage chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) with satisfactory functional outcomes. It remains unclear whether there are differences in the functional results between the use of one or two double-loaded anchors. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 59 CLAI patients who underwent an all-inside arthroscopic ATFL repair procedure from 2017 to 2019. Patients were divided into two groups according to the number of anchors used. In the one-anchor group (n = 32), the ATFL was repaired with one double-loaded suture anchor. In the two-anchors group (n = 27), the ATFL was repaired with two double-loaded suture anchors. At the last follow-up time point, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores, Karlsson Ankle Function Score (KAFS), Anterior Talar Translation (ATT), Active Joint Position Sense (AJPS), and the rate of return to sports in both groups were compared. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up for at least 24 months. Improvement in the functional results (VAS, AOFAS, KAFS, ATT, and AJPS) were recorded at the final follow-up time point. No significant differences were observed regarding VAS, AOFAS, KAFS, ATT, and AJPS between the two groups. CONCLUSION: In patients with CLAI undergoing all-inside arthroscopic ATFL repair, the use of either one or two double-loaded suture anchors produces comparable and predictably good functional outcomes. BACKGROUND: In pancreatic cancer, methods to predict early recurrence (ER) and identify patients at increased risk of relapse are urgently required. PURPOSE: To develop a radiomic nomogram based on MR radiomics to stratify patients preoperatively and potentially improve clinical practice. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: We enrolled 303 patients from two medical centers. Patients with a disease-free survival ≤12 months were assigned as the ER group (n = 130). Patients from the first medical center were divided into a training cohort (n = 123) and an internal validation cohort (n = 54). Patients from the second medical center were used as the external independent validation cohort (n = 126). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3.0T axial T1 -weighted (T1 -w), T2 -weighted (T2 -w), contrast-enhanced T1 -weighted (CET1 -w). ASSESSMENT: ER was confirmed via imaging studies as MRI or CT. Risk factors, including clinical stage, CA19-9, and radiomic-related features of ER were assessed. In addition, to determine the intra- and interobserver reproducibility of radiomic features extraction, the intra- and interclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were calculated. STATISTICAL TESTS: The area under the receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the radiomic signature in both the training and test groups. The results of decision curve analysis (DCA) indicated that the radiomic nomogram achieved the most net benefit. RESULTS: The AUC values of ER evaluation for the radiomics signature were 0.80 (training cohort), 0.81 (internal validation cohort), and 0.78 (external validation cohort). Multivariate logistic analysis identified the radiomic signature, CA19-9 level, and clinical stage as independent parameters of ER. A radiomic nomogram was then developed incorporating the CA19-9 level and clinical stage. The AUC values for ER risk evaluation using the radiomic nomogram were 0.87 (training cohort), 0.88 (internal validation cohort), and 0.85 (external validation cohort). DATA CONCLUSION: The radiomic nomogram can effectively evaluate ER risks in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer preoperatively, which could potentially improve treatment strategies and facilitate personalized therapy in pancreatic cancer. OBJECTIVES: FOLFIRINOX (FFX) or abraxane plus gemcitabine (AG)-based chemotherapy is used widely as firstline treatment for patients with pancreatic cancer. However, their use in the elderly is discouraged because of adverse events. More clinical data about the therapeutic response and tolerability to FFX or AG in elderly patents (over 70 years old) are required. METHODS: Patients with advanced pancreatic cancer (n = 203; 131 metastatic pancreatic cancer patients (MPC) and 72 locally advanced pancreatic cancer patients (LAPC)) were treated using modified-FFX (mFFX) or AG and mFFX sequentially. The patients were grouped according to their age, patients below 70 years old and patients above 70 years old. The objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and adverse events were compared between the groups. RESULTS: The ORRs in the elderly and in patients below 70 were similar (30.0% versus 32.3%). The median OS and PFS were also similar between the groups (mOS 13.3 m vs 12.7 m, p = 0.729, HR 0.874 (95% CI 0.5310 to 1.438); mPFS mPFS 10.6 m vs 10.3 m, p = 0.363, HR 0.800 (95% CI 0.4954 to 1.293)). However, the elderly patients suffered a higher incidence of severe adverse events (50% vs. 28.3%). CONCLUSIONS: These data could provide guidance for chemotherapy use in elderly patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. Age did not affect treatment outcome; however, supportive treatment is very important for elderly patients receiving chemotherapy.

The biological characteristics of bladder cancer include enhanced invasion and migration, which are the main causes of death in patients. Starvation is a typical feature of the bladder cancer microenvironment and can induce autophagy. Autophagy has an important relationship with the invasion and migration of tumors. However, the role of autophagy in the invasion and migration of bladder cancer cells remains unclear. Hence, the aim of the current study was to clarify this role and underlying mechanism. In this study, we found that starvation enhanced the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-mediated invasion and migration of T24 and 5637 cells while inducing autophagy. The inhibition of autophagy with chloroquine (CQ) or 3-methyladenine (3MA) decreased EMT-mediated invasion and migration. In addition, the expression of transforming growth factor 1 (TGF-ß1) and phosphorylated Smad3 (p-Smad3) increased after starvation. The inhibition of autophagy with CQ or 3MA also decreased the expression of TGF-ß1 and p-Smad3. The inhibitor of TGF-ß receptor sb431542 also inhibited the invasion, migration, and EMT of T24 and 5637 cells during starvation. Furthermore, recombinant TGF-ß1 induced autophagy and inhibition of the TGF-ß/Smad signaling pathway with sb431542 suppressed autophagy. In summary, our results suggested that autophagy promotes the invasion and migration of bladder cancer cells by inducing EMT through the TGF-ß1/Smad3 signaling pathway. Moreover, autophagy and TGF-ß1 can form a positive feedback loop to synergistically promote invasion and migration. Thus, our findings may provide a theoretical basis for the prevention of invasion and migration in bladder cancer.

Cystadenomas of the seminal vesicles are extremely rare. Here, we report a large seminal vesicle cystadenoma. A 37-year-old man presented a 6-month history of haemospermia, 10 days of Lower Urinary Tract symptoms (LUTSs) and gross haematuria. Transabdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were performed and revealed a large solid-cystic pelvic mass morphometrically measured 7.0 cm × 11.9 cm × 8.6 cm on the right seminal vesicle, which caused hydronephrosis of the right kidney. The prostate-specific antigen of the patient was 27.860 ng/dl. Laparoscopic exploration found the capsule of tumour was complete and the tumour came from the right seminal vesicle, in addition, the mass had a certain space with the bladder and prostate, which could be separated. So a nerve-sparing Laparoscopic Vesiculectomy was performed at last, even though the intraoperative frozen section analysis could not make sure the nature of the tumour either. The postoperative pathology revealed cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle.

BACKGROUND: To describe staging surgery for the treatment of a patient with aortic arch aneurysm combined with aberrant bilateral subclavian artery, persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC), and airway compression. CASE REPORT: A 42-year-old female was hospitalized for aortic arch aneurysm involving aberrant bilateral subclavian artery, PLSVC, and airway compression. The patient's aneurysm was successfully treated by stage I surgery, including total aortic arch replacement and stented elephant trunk procedure and stage II surgery, including tracheal stenting and tracheotomy. Aortic CTA examination showed an unobstructed lumen and a good stent position without tracheal stent migration. Regular postoperative follow-up showed no complications, such as dyspnea, cough, and sputum, or other discomfort symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Total aortic arch replacement, elephant trunk surgery, and second-stage tracheal stent surgery are effective and safe for the treatment of aortic arch aneurysm combined with aberrant bilateral subclavian artery, PLSVC, and airway compression.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is providing new opportunities for killing cancer cells. In this work, we introduce a new nanomedicine based on spherical MoS2 nanoparticles for PTT treatment of tumors, prepared using "green" bottom-up technology. To increase water solubility and avoid rapid clearance by the reticuloendothelial system, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used to coat them. These MoS2-PEG nanospheres with an appropriate size (∼100 nm) exhibit high photothermal conversion efficiency (26.7%). In vitro cellular studies revealed that the MoS2-PEG nanospheres showed negligible cytotoxicity. Additionally, through combining the MoS2-PEG nanosphere samples with NIR irradiation at 808 nm, excellent in vitro tumor cell killing efficacy was achieved. In the 4T1 tumor model, the MoS2-PEG nanospheres exhibited good antitumor efficiency in vivo, displaying complete tumor inhibition over 16 days after treatment. Therefore, MoS2-PEG nanospheres played an important role in tumor destruction, and this concept for developing spherical MoS2-based nanomedicines can serve as a platform technology for the next generation of in vivo PTT agents.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic head adenocarcinoma is commonly diagnosed at an advanced stage when adjacent vascular invasion is present. This study aimed to establish a preoperative prognostic nomogram for patients who underwent attempted curative resectional surgery for pancreatic head cancer with suspected peripancreatic venous invasion. METHODS: Data on all consecutive patients were retrospectively collected from 2012 to 2016 at four academic institutions. The demographic and radiological parameters were analyzed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. The final nomogram was established using the concordance Harrell's C-indices and calibration curves from data obtained in three institutions and validated in the cohort of patients coming from the fourth institution. RESULTS: The nomogram was constructed using data from 178 patients while the validation cohort consisted of 61 patients. Age, length of tumor contact, peripancreatic venous abnormalities and lymph node staging were independent factors of overall survival. The nomogram showed good probabilities of survival on calibration curves. The C-index of the model in predicting overall survival (OS) was 0.824 for the validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram accurately predicted OS in patients with pancreatic head cancer with suspected peripancreatic venous invasion after attempted curative pancreatic resectional surgery.

The pharmacological importance of recombinant human stem cell factor (rhSCF) has increased the demand to establish effective and large-scale production and purification processes. A good source of bioactive recombinant protein with capability of being scaled-up without losing activity has always been a challenge. The objectives of the study were the rapid and efficient pilot-scale expression and purification of rhSCF. The gene encoding stem cell factor (SCF) was cloned into pBV220 and transformed into Escherichia coli. The recombinant SCF was expressed and isolated using a procedure consisting of isolation of inclusion bodies (IBs), denaturation, and refolding followed by chromatographic steps toward purification. The yield of rhSCF reached 835.6 g/20 L, and the expression levels of rhSCF were about 33.9% of the total E. coli protein content. rhSCF was purified by isolation of IBs, denaturation, and refolding, followed by SP-Sepharose chromatography, Source 30 reversed-phase chromatography, and Q-Sepharose chromatography. This procedure was developed to isolate 5.5 g of rhSCF (99.5% purity) with specific activity at 0.96 × 106  IU/mg, endotoxin levels of pyrogen at 1.0 EU/mg, and bacterial DNA at 10 ng/mg. Pilot-scale fermentations and purifications were set up for the production of rhSCF that can be upscaled for industry.

The furnace walls and slags from Tangjiadun site in Zongyang County of Anhui Province were analyzed by means of X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), X-ray diffraction analyzer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) in order to probe into the copper smelting technology of Tangjiadun site. Results show that the furnace walls are from the copper smelting furnaces and the slags are the reduced slag. According to the concentrations of elements As, Ag, Sb and Bi in copper prills, it can be calculated that relative probabilities that these copper prills in the slags come from the copper sulfide ore reach over 87. 87%. Combined with the results of SEM-EDS, the smelting process of "copper sulphide ore-copper" was used in Tangjiadun site, and the smelting remains (slags and prills) were considered as the smelting products of sulphide copper ore. This study is not only beneficial to research on bronze cultural of Zongyang County, but also has very important significance to explore the development and evolution of bronze metallurgy technology in Zongyang-Lujiang area.

Cadmium (Cd) accumulation and pollution in arable soils are particularly serious in the lower reaches of the Minjiang River in southwest of China. In this study, the remediation efficiency of Cd contamination in arable soils, the distribution pattern of Cd concentration in crops, and the food safety to humans of three typical cropping systems (S1: maize + sweet potato-Chinese cabbage, S2: maize + ginger-stem mustard, and S3: rice) were investigated and evaluated. After 1-year rotation, the percentage of Cd extracted by crops from the plough soil layer was observed in three system fields with the trend of S1 (2.30 %) > S2 (1.16 %) > S3 (0.21 %) and Cd extraction amount in crops was maximum in sweet potato, then in maize. The same kind of crop had the same pattern of Cd distribution in organs, and the edible parts generally accumulated less Cd amount than the inedible parts. Further, the grain crops were found to possibly be suitable one for using as phytoaccumulators of Cd contamination for farmlands. Direct consumption of these crops from the three systems would pose a high health risk to local inhabitants since it would result in the monthly intake of Cd (247 µg kg(-1) body weight) being nearly 10 times higher than the recommended tolerable monthly intake (RTMI) (25 µg kg(-1) body weight), resulting mainly from the consumption of vegetables rather than the grains, which would be potentially reduced by these foods being consumed by livestock firstly.

Using fast-growing trees to remediate soils polluted by heavy metals (HMs) has received increasingly more attention, especially for recalcitrant Pb, as one of the most seriously toxic HMs. However, little is known about the responses of plants to a diffused level of Pb pollution, and a more combined phytoremediation technique is needed to explore. In this study, an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF), i.e., Funneliformis mosseae, isolated from Populus euphratica distributed in a tailing of Pb/Zn ore, was introduced to investigate its effects on sex-specific responses of P. cathayana in morphology, physiology, and Pb phytoremediation capacity, when exposed to a diffused level of Pb pollution (100mg Pb(2+) kg(-1) dry soil). Symbiosis with exotic AMF did not significantly affect growth of both sexes and biomass allocation. However, when inoculated with AMF, both sexes absorbed more P, but not N in the roots, especially when exposed to the exogenous addition of Pb. The improvement of nutrient status under such conditions might be associated with a further increase in activity of antioxidant enzymes (particularly for superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT)), and the mitigation of oxidation stress induced by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). We also observed that exotic AMF could promote the uptake and accumulation of Pb in roots of females, but not in that of males. Therefore, under this diffused pollution level, the infected females might be more suitable for remediation of this metal than infected males, due to the higher capacity of HM accumulation without obvious negative effects on growth and physiological traits. Moreover, field surveys are needed to testify our experimental results, due to diversity of soil microbial community and complexities of their interaction.

In our study, we tested two poplars, Populus beijingensis and Populus cathayana, as model species for their potential for phytoremediation by measuring changes in biomass, pigments, superoxide radicals (O2(-)), cellular ultrastructure and their ability for O2(-) quenching and heavy metal accumulation when exposed to Pb, Zn and their interaction in a hydroponic system. Exposure to Pb did not cause a significant decrease in biomass in either P. beijingensis or P. cathayana. Correspondingly, no obvious impairment in cellular organelles was observed in either species, although the former species translocated a higher fraction of Pb to its shoots than the latter. In contrast, there were significant decreases in biomass and pigment content, and serious impairments in ultrastructure in both species when exposed to either Zn alone or to a combined treatment. Under such conditions, P. beijingensis showed smaller losses of biomass and pigments but a greater ability to quench O2(-) and maintained relatively intact cellular organelles compared with P. cathayana. Under the combined stress, there were no obvious additive effects on biomass, pigments or cellular impairment, whereas synergistic effects on metal absorption and accumulation in both species were observed when compared with exposure to either alone. Thus, the attribute of synergistic uptake and translocation in both species validates their potential to remediate soil contaminated by multiple metals. Moreover, our results indicated that P. beijingensis is a better potential candidate for phytoremediation than P. cathayana, due to its greater phytoremediation efficiency as well as its higher tolerance capacity.

OBJECTIVE: To explore whether single and fused monochromatic images can improve liver tumor detection and delineation by single source dual energy CT (ssDECT) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) during arterial phase. METHODS: Fifty-seven patients with HCC who underwent ssDECT scanning at Beijing Cancer Hospital were enrolled retrospectively. Twenty-one sets of monochromatic images from 40 to 140 keV were reconstructed at 5 keV intervals in arterial phase. The optimal contrast-noise ratio (CNR) monochromatic images of the liver tumor and the lowest-noise monochromatic images were selected for image fusion. We evaluated the image quality of the optimal-CNR monochromatic images, the lowest-noise monochromatic images and the fused monochromatic images, respectively. The evaluation indicators included the spatial resolution of the anatomical structure, the noise level, the contrast and CNR of the tumor. RESULTS: In arterial phase, the anatomical structure of the liver can be displayed most clearly in the 65-keV monochromatic images, with the lowest image noise. The optimal-CNR monochromatic images of HCC tumor were 50-keV monochromatic images in which the internal structural features of the liver tumors were displayed most clearly and meticulously. For tumor detection, the fused monochromatic images and the 50-keV monochromatic images had similar performances, and were more sensitive than 65-keV monochromatic images. CONCLUSIONS: We achieved good arterial phase images by fusing the optimal-CNR monochromatic images of the HCC tumor and the lowest-noise monochromatic images. The fused images displayed liver tumors and anatomical structures more clearly, which is potentially helpful for identifying more and smaller HCC tumors.

The speed of evolution on structured populations is crucial for biological and social systems. The likelihood of invasion is key for evolutionary stability. But it makes little sense if it takes long. It is far from known what population structure slows down evolution. We investigate the absorption time of a single neutral mutant for all the 112 non-isomorphic undirected graphs of size 6. We find that about three-quarters of the graphs have an absorption time close to that of the complete graph, less than one-third are accelerators, and more than two-thirds are decelerators. Surprisingly, determining whether a graph has a long absorption time is too complicated to be captured by the joint degree distribution. Via the largest sojourn time, we find that echo-chamber-like graphs, which consist of two homogeneous graphs connected by few sparse links, are likely to slow down absorption. These results are robust for large graphs, mutation patterns as well as evolutionary processes. This work serves as a benchmark for timing evolution with complex interactions, and fosters the understanding of polarization in opinion formation.
