RESUMO

Substitution with rare earth (RE3+) and transition (X = Cu, Ni, Mn, Zn, etc.) metals can distort the spinel ferrite structure and create defects, which can be exploited in multifarious applications. In this study, yttrium and nickel co-substituted cobalt ferrites [Co1-xNixFe1.85Y0.15O4], (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) were synthesized by a modified sol-gel reaction route. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns confirmed the single phase and highly crystalline nature of the prepared samples. Field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray (FESEM-EDX) spectroscopy confirmed the morphology of the prepared samples sintered at 800 °C and showed the grain sizes of the particles decreased with the addition of nickel ions. The simultaneous co-existence of saturation magnetization and ferroelectricity at room temperature confirmed the multiferroic nature of the co-substituted cobalt ferrites. The dielectric and impedance studies confirmed the Maxwell-Wagner polarization phenomenon and the enhanced values with Y-Ni co-substitution. The maximum saturation ferroelectric polarization was attained around 6.142 µC cm-2 for yttrium-substituted cobalt ferrite and then decreased with the increase in the substitution % of nickel. The maximum value of saturation magnetization (Ms = 99.50 emu g-1) was obtained with the highest substitution % of nickel of x = 0.15 in yttrium-substituted cobalt ferrite (YCFO) nanoferrites, which was also confirmed from the vibrating sample magnitude (VSM) studies at room temperature. The improvements in the structural, morphological, electrical, and multiferroic properties in the co-substituted cobalt ferrites were found to correlated to the substitution of the bigger cationic Y3+ ions compared to the Fe3+ ions, while the small substitution of Ni2+ ions lead to changes in the lattice parameters, porosity, and conduction behavior. These significant enhancements in co-substituted cobalt ferrites can be exploited for hydroelectric cell applications.

The rehabilitation of facial deformities is a challenging endeavour that necessitates customising the procedure for each patient. Significant physical and psychological impacts might arise as a result of the deformity in the orofacial region. Post-COVID rhino-orbital mucormycosis has led to rise in extraoral and intraoral defects since 2020. To avoid further surgery, an economical maxillofacial prosthesis is an excellent choice as it is aesthetic, durable, long-lasting and retentive. This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient with post-COVID mucormycosis maxillectomy and orbital exenteration using a magnet-retained closed bulb hollow acrylic obturator and room-temperature vulcanising silicone orbital prosthesis. To enhance retention, a spectacle and medical-grade adhesive were also used.

Nitric oxide (NO) produced in plant cells has the unique ability to interact with various other biomolecules, thereby facilitating its own as well as their signaling and associated actions at their sites of biosynthesis and at other sites via transcellular long distance transport of the molecular complexes. Melatonin (Mel) is one such biomolecule produced in plant cells which has fascinated plant biologists with regard to its molecular crosstalk with other molecules to serve its roles as a growth regulator. Present work reports the synthesis of N-nitrosomelatonin (NOMela) and its preferential uptake by Arabidopsis seedlings roots and long distance transport to the leaves through vascular strands. Equimolar (250 µM) concentrations of NOMela and S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) in aqueous solutions bring about 52.8% more release of NO from NOMela than from GSNO. Following confocal laser scanning microscopic (CLSM) imaging, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis of the Scatter gram of endogenously taken up NOMela demonstrates significant NO signal in roots emanating from mitochondria. NOMela (250 µM) taken up by Arabidopsis seedling roots also proved more efficient as a NO transporter from primary root to leaves than 250 µM of GSNO. These novel observations on NOMela thus hold promise to decipher its crucial role as a NO carrier and reservoir in plant cells, and also as a facilitator of melatonin action in plant development.

Blockade of the T-cell exhaustion marker PD-1 to re-energize the immune response is emerging as a promising cancer treatment. Relapse of hematologic malignancy after allogeneic stem cell transplantation limits the success of this approach, and PD-1 blockade may hold therapeutic promise. However, PD-1 expression and its relationship with post-transplant relapse is poorly described. Because the donor immunity is activated by alloresponses, PD-1 expression may differ from nontransplanted individuals, and PD-1 blockade could risk graft-versus-host disease. Here we analyzed T-cell exhaustion marker kinetics and their relationship with leukemia relapse in 85 patients undergoing myeloablative T-cell-depleted HLA-matched stem cell transplantation. At a median follow-up of 3.5 years, 35 (44%) patients relapsed. PD-1 expression in CD4 and CD8 T cells was comparably elevated in relapsed and nonrelapsed cohorts. Helios+ regulatory T cells and CD8 effector memory cells at day 30 emerged as independent predictors of relapse. Although leukemia antigen-specific T cells did not overexpress PD-1, single-cell analysis revealed LAG3 and TIM3 overexpression at relapse. These findings indicate that PD-1 is an unreliable marker for leukemia-specific T-cell exhaustion in relapsing patients but implies other exhaustion markers and suppressor cells as relapse biomarkers.

The role of lipid metabolism in epithelial stem cell (SC) function and carcinogenesis is poorly understood. The transcription factor Runx1 is known to regulate proliferation in mouse epithelial hair follicle (HF) SCs in vivo and in several mouse and human epithelial cancers. We found a novel subset of in vivo Runx1 HFSC target genes related to lipid metabolism and demonstrated changes in distinct classes of lipids driven by Runx1. Inhibition of lipid-enzymes Scd1 and Soat1 activity synergistically reduces proliferation of mouse skin epithelial cells and of human skin and oral squamous cell carcinoma cultured lines. Varying Runx1 levels induces changes in skin monounsaturated fatty acids (e.g., oleate, a product of Scd1) as shown by our lipidome analysis. Furthermore, varying Runx1 levels, the inhibition of Scd1, or the addition of Scd1-product oleate, individually affects the plasma membrane organization (or fluidity) in mouse keratinocytes. These factors also affect the strength of signal transduction through the membranes for Wnt, a pathway that promotes epithelial (cancer) cell proliferation and HFSC activation. Our working model is that HFSC factor Runx1 modulates the fatty acid production, which affects membrane organization, facilitating signal transduction for rapid proliferation of normal and cancer epithelial cells. Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous signaling molecule in plants. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), an established NO donor used in plant science research, simultaneously releases NO, cyanide (CN-) and iron (Fe) in solution. Since cyanide and iron mask NO effect of SNP, its use in NO research is debatable. Deciphering the action of SNP through NO, CN- or Fe has been undertaken in the present work. Cotyledons from salt stressed sunflower seedlings grown in the presence of NO donors were subjected to spectrofluorometric analysis of NO, CN- and Fe contents, and proteome and biochemical analyses. Diethylenetriamine NONOate (DETA) proved to be a better NO source since SNP enhanced ROS accumulation in the tissue. Abundance of 127 proteins is modulated by salt stress. SNP and exhausted SNP (exSNP) alter the abundance of 117 and 129 proteins, respectively. These proteins belong to primary metabolism, stress-response, transport, translation, proteolysis, chaperone, regulatory, and storage. Salt-responsive proteins, such as, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) and isocitrate dehydrogenase are negatively modulated. DETA and SNP lower the activities of GAPDH and S-adenosylmethionine synthase (SAMS). Abundance of heat shock 70 kDa protein and actin are sensitive to both NaCl and NO. SNP affects plant growth by modulating proteome though iron, cyanide and NO. Its use only as an NO donor is thus debatable. exSNP control also releases substantial amount of cyanide and iron, thus questioning its use as control in NO research.

The phenolic compounds play an important role in production of quality grapes and wines. The current investigation focused on optimization of an extraction method for targeted analysis of 33 phenolic compounds in grapes by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The optimized method was successfully used for phenolic profiling of two wine grape varieties, Sauvignon blanc (white) and Shiraz (red) originated from Pune and Nasik regions of Maharashtra State, India. The optimized sample preparation procedure involved liquid-liquid extraction with acidified methanol by vortexing for 2 min followed by analysis on LC-MS/MS. The limit of quantification of the targeted compounds was in the range of 29 to 411 µg/L. The results indicated that skin of both varieties contained the highest amount of flavonols (69.47 ± 14.74 mg/kg in Sauvignon blanc and 129.47 ± 10.05 mg/kg in Shiraz) compared to pulp. The highest amounts of flavan-3-ols were present in grape seed collected from the Pune region (2016.84 ± 14.73 mg/kg in Sauvignon blanc and 1945.06 ± 32.69 mg/kg in Shiraz). The concentration of stilbenes was the highest in grape skin (0.13 ± 0.52 to 5.78 ± 5.45 mg/kg) compared to seed and pulp of both varities. Hydroxybenzoic acid (vanillin), hydroxycinnamic acid (p-coumaric acid) and anthocyanins (oenin, malvidin, cyanidin and kuromanin) were found only in Shiraz variety. The results of antioxidant activity (FRAP and DPPH assay) indicated the highest scavenging activity in seed (978.64 ± 56.23 to1133.38 ± 143.65 µMol TE/g DW FRAP and 594.93 ± 37.94 to 631.94 ± 56.45 µMol TE/g DW in DPPH). The phenolic contents in Sauvignon blanc and Shiraz grapes between Pune and Nasik regions did not have any significant difference.

Various approaches have been developed for ex vivo T cell depletion in allogeneic stem cell transplantation to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Direct comparisons of T cell depletion strategies have not been well studied, however. We evaluated cellular and plasma biomarkers in 2 different graft manipulation strategies, CD3+CD19+ cell depletion (CD3/19D) versus CD34+ selection (CD34S), and their associations with clinical outcomes. Identical conditions, including the myeloablative preparative regimen, HLA-identical sibling donor, GVHD prophylaxis, and graft source, were used in the 2 cohorts. Major clinical outcomes were similar in the 2 groups in terms of overall survival, nonrelapse mortality, and cumulative incidence of relapse; however, the cumulative incidence of acute GVHD trended to be higher in the CD3/19D cohort compared with the CD34S cohort. A distinct biomarker profile was noted in the CD3/19D cohort: higher levels of ST2, impaired Helios- FoxP3+Treg reconstitution, and rapid reconstitution of naïve, Th2, and Th17 CD4 cells in the early post-transplantation period. In vitro graft replication studies confirmed that CD3/19D disproportionately depleted Tregs and other CD4 subset repertoires in the graft. This study confirms the utility of biomarker monitoring, which can be directly correlated with biological consequences and possible future therapeutic indications.

Nitric oxide (NO) and various reactive nitrogen species produced in cells in normal growth conditions, and their enhanced production under stress conditions are responsible for a variety of biochemical aberrations. The present findings demonstrate that sunflower seedling roots exhibit high sensitivity to salt stress in terms of nitrite accumulation. A significant reduction in S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) activity is evident in response to salt stress. Restoration of GSNOR activity with dithioerythritol shows that the enzyme is reversibly inhibited under conditions of 120 mM NaCl. Salt stress-mediated S-nitrosylation of cytosolic proteins was analyzed in roots and cotyledons using biotin-switch assay. LC-MS/MS analysis revealed opposite patterns of S-nitrosylation in seedling cotyledons and roots. Salt stress enhances S-nitrosylation of proteins in cotyledons, whereas roots exhibit denitrosylation of proteins. Highest number of proteins having undergone S-nitrosylation belonged to the category of carbohydrate metabolism followed by other metabolic proteins. Of the total 61 proteins observed to be regulated by S-nitrosylation, 17 are unique to cotyledons, 4 are unique to roots whereas 40 are common to both. Eighteen S-nitrosylated proteins are being reported for the first time in plant systems, including pectinesterase, phospholipase d-alpha and calmodulin. Further physiological analysis of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and monodehydroascorbate reductase showed that salt stress leads to a reversible inhibition of both these enzymes in cotyledons. However, seedling roots exhibit enhanced enzyme activity under salinity stress. These observations implicate the role of S-nitrosylation and denitrosylation in NO signaling thereby regulating various enzyme activities under salinity stress in sunflower seedlings.

AIM: The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal and internal adaptation of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) copings fabricated from conventional wax pattern, three-dimensional (3D)-printed resin pattern, and laser sintering technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of thirty copings were made, out of which ten copings were made from 3D-printed resin pattern (Group A), ten from inlay wax pattern (Group B), and ten copings were obtained from direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technique (Group C). All the thirty samples were seated on their respective dies and sectioned carefully using a laser jet cutter and were evaluated for marginal and internal gaps at the predetermined areas using a stereomicroscope. The values were then analyzed using one-way ANOVA test and post hoc Bonferroni test. RESULTS: One-way ANOVA showed lowest mean marginal discrepancy for DMLS and highest value for copings fabricated from inlay wax. The values for internal discrepancy were highest for DMLS (169.38) and lowest for 3D-printed resin pattern fabricated copings (133.87). Post hoc Bonferroni test for both marginal and internal discrepancies showed nonsignificant difference when Group A was compared to Group B (P > 0.05) and significant when Group A was compared with Group C (P < 0.05). Group B showed significant difference (P < 0.05) when compared with Group C. CONCLUSION: Marginal and internal discrepancies of all the three casting techniques were within clinically acceptable values. Marginal fit of DMLS was superior as compared to other two techniques, whereas when internal fit was evaluated, conventional technique showed the best internal fit.

BACKGROUND: Acquired copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity has been described in myeloid malignant progression with an otherwise normal karyotype. CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old woman with MPL-mutated essential thrombocythemia and progression to myelofibrosis was noted upon routine pretransplant testing to have mixed field reactivity with anti-D and an historic discrepancy in RhD type. The patient had never received transfusions or transplantation. RESULTS: Gel immunoagglutination revealed group A red blood cells and a mixed-field reaction for the D phenotype, with a predominant D-negative population and a small subset of circulating red blood cells carrying the D antigen. Subsequent genomic microarray single nucleotide polymorphism profiling revealed copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity of chromosome 1 p36.33-p34.2, a known molecular mechanism underlying fibrotic progression of MPL-mutated essential thrombocythemia. The chromosomal region affected by this copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity encompassed the RHD, RHCE, and MPL genes. We propose a model of chronological molecular events that is supported by RHD zygosity assays in peripheral lymphoid and myeloid-derived cells. CONCLUSION: Copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity events that lead to clonal selection and myeloid malignant progression may also affect the expression of adjacent unrelated genes, including those encoding for blood group antigens. Detection of mixed-field reactions and investigation of discrepant blood typing results are important for proper transfusion support of these patients and can provide useful surrogate markers of myeloproliferative disease progression.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of incisal butt joint and incisal overlap design on the fracture resistance of ceramic veneers under two different loading conditions, i.e., 125° and 60° representing protrusive and intercuspal movements, respectively. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two maxillary central incisors were divided into two groups of sixteen specimens each and were prepared with incisal butt joint and incisal overlap design. Ceramic veneers were fabricated and cemented. Both the groups were further divided and mechanical testing to evaluate the fracture resistance were done using the universal testing machine. The values were recorded in Newton along with the assessment of the failure mode of both veneer and the tooth. RESULTS: Unpaired t-test showed a significant difference (P < 0.05) with butt joint design having higher fracture resistance than palatal overlap design with the mean value of 409.50N at 60° angle and 473.37N at 125° angle. Paired t-test depicted a significant difference for both the designs at 125° than at 60° angle (P < 0.05). Chi-square analysis showed more number of intact veneers with butt joint design; however, there was no significant difference (P > 0.05). Failure mode of teeth showed more number of coronal fracture followed by cervical fracture and root fracture, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Butt joint design had higher fracture resistance than palatal overlap design. Under functional loads for both designs, fracture resistance was higher at 125° than at 60° angle.

Deformable image registration (DIR) and interobserver variation inevitably intro-duce uncertainty into the treatment planning process. The purpose of the current work was to measure deformable image registration (DIR) errors and interobserver variability for regions of interest (ROIs) in the head and neck and pelvic regions. Measured uncertainties were combined to examine planning margin adequacy for contours propagated for adaptive therapy and to assess the trade-off of DIR and interobserver uncertainty in atlas-based automatic segmentation. Two experi-enced dosimetrists retrospectively contoured brainstem, spinal cord, anterior oral cavity, larynx, right and left parotids, optic nerves, and eyes on the planning CT (CT1) and attenuation-correction CT of diagnostic PET/CT (CT2) for 30 patients who received radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. Two senior radiation oncology residents retrospectively contoured prostate, bladder, and rectum on the postseed-implant CT (CT1) and planning CT (CT2) for 20 patients who received radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Interobserver variation was measured by calculating mean Hausdorff distances between the two observers' contours. CT2 was deformably registered to CT1 via commercially available multipass B-spline DIR. CT2 contours were propagated and compared with CT1 contours via mean Hausdorff distances. These values were summed in quadrature with interobserver variation for margin analysis and compared with interobserver variation for sta-tistical significance using two-tailed t-tests for independent samples (α = 0.05). Combined uncertainty ranged from 1.5-5.8 mm for head and neck structures and 3.1-3.7 mm for pelvic structures. Conventional 5 mm margins may not be adequate to cover this additional uncertainty. DIR uncertainty was significantly less than interobserver variation for four head and neck and one pelvic ROI. DIR uncertainty was not significantly different than interobserver variation for four head and neck and one pelvic ROI. DIR uncertainty was significantly greater than interobserver variation for two head and neck and one pelvic ROI. The introduction of DIR errors may offset any reduction in interobserver variation by using atlas-based automatic segmentation.

To compare the role of fresh and dry preserved amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in partial limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). 30 Patients of partial LSCD involving <180° of cornea of different age group were divided into 2 groups; group A and B. Clinical diagnosis was made on the basis of presence of conjunctival pannus over cornea and loss of limbal palisades of Vogt. After taking impression cytology from the corneal surface, group A patients underwent conjunctival pannus resection followed by fresh AMT while group B patients underwent dry preserved AMT after resection of pannus. Resected specimens were sent for histopathological confirmation of the conjunctival tissue. Serial follow-ups were done at 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 weeks interval post-operatively. Pre-operative impression cytology revealed goblet cells in 40 and 53.33 % cases of group A and group B respectively. However, histopathological examination confirmed the presence of conjunctival tissue in all cases. All cases in both the groups maintained stable corneal epithelial surface with amelioration of clinical symptoms except for 1 case in group A. At the end of 24 weeks improvement in visual acuity was observed in 40 % cases in both the groups which was not more than 2 Snellen's line in any case. Complete regression of superficial vascularisation was observed in 60 and 53.33 % cases in group A and B respectively while deep vascularisation persisted in all at the end of study period. Recurrence of conjunctival pannus at the same site was observed in 13.33 % in both the groups. One patient (6.66 %) developed post-operative infectious keratitis in group A while no major complications were observed in group B. Both fresh and dry AMT is equally effective in the treatment of partial LSCD. However, the utility of AMT is limited in corneas with long standing tissue scarring and vascularisation secondary to partial LSCD.

Biallelic inactivation of LKB1, a serine/threonine kinase, has been detected in 30% of lung adenocarcinomas, and inhibition of breast tumor growth has been demonstrated. We have identified the tumor suppressor, Nischarin, as a novel binding partner of LKB1. Our mapping analysis shows that the N terminus of Nischarin interacts with amino acids 44-436 of LKB1. Time lapse microscopy and Transwell migration data show that the absence of both Nischarin and LKB1 from an invasive breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) enhances migration as measured by increased distance and speed of migrating cells. Our data suggest that this is a result of elevated PAK1 and LIMK1 phosphorylation. Moreover, the absence of Nischarin and LKB1 increased tumor growth in vivo. Consistent with this, the percentage of S phase cells was increased, as demonstrated by flow cytometry and enhanced cyclin D1. The absence of Nischarin and LKB1 also led to a dramatic increase in the formation of lung metastases. Our studies, for the first time, demonstrate functional interaction between LKB1 and Nischarin to inhibit cell migration and breast tumor progression. Mechanistically, we show that these two proteins together regulate PAK-LIMK-Cofilin and cyclin D1/CDK4 pathways.

This paper explores yttrium and copper co-doped cobalt ferrite [Co1-xCuxFe1.85Y0.15O4] synthesized via the sol-gel auto-combustion route (0.0 ⩽x⩽ 0.08). Investigating the impact of co-dopants on CoFe2O4, the study reveals altered cation distribution affecting the structure, multiferroic, and electrical properties. X-ray diffraction studies show nanocrystalline co-doped cobalt ferrites with lattice expansion and smaller grains due to Cu-Y co-doping. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirms inverse spinel family classification with tetrahedral lattice shrinkage. Field emission scanning electron microscopy indicates a grain size of approximately 0.12µm. Ferroelectric analysis reveals a peak saturation polarization of 23.42µC cm-2for 8% copper doping, attributed to increased Fe3+ions at tetrahedral sites. Saturation magnetization peaks at 54.4706 emu g-1for 2% Cu2+ion substitution [Co0.98Cu0.02Fe1.85Y0.15O4] and decreases to 37.09 emu g-1for 4% Cu substitution due to irregular iron atom distribution at tetrahedral sites. Dielectric studies uncover Maxwell-Wagner polarization and high resistance in grain and grain boundaries using impedance spectroscopy. Fabricated hydroelectric cells exhibit improved ionic diffusion, suggesting their use in potential hydroelectric cell applications.

BACKGROUND: The rehabilitation of maxillectomy defects is a challenging endeavour that necessitates customizing the procedure for each patient. The successful treatment for these patients requires a combined conventional and contemporary treatment options. The high-tech prosthodontic treatment option for these defects and distal extension cases are combining fixed and removable partial dentures with precision/semi-precision attachments. It will enhance retention, stability, esthetics and functional ability of the prosthesis. METHODS: Three post-Covid Mucormycosis patients reported after localised debridement and partial maxillectomy for definitive rehabilitation. For partial Maxillectomy patients, DMLS designed cast partial denture along with semi-precision attachments (Preci-vertix and OT strategy Rhein For patient with localized defect, DMLS designed cast partial denture was planned. For both patients the defect area was kept as hollow cavity (Closed or Open), in order to reduce the weight of the prosthesis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The prosthodontic rehabilitation of these patient can be a simple and economical treatment options and it improves the stomatognathic functions and quality of life of the patient. The major hurdles during rehabilitation are retention and stability as there is no basal seat and hard tissue support. Hence, we tried a combined conventional and digital techniques in order to provide prosthesis with precise fit and accuracy as well as reducing the treatment time and visits of the patients.

Corn starch (CS) is a good alternative to synthetic polymers due to its sustainability; nevertheless, because of its weak tensile strength, the matrix requires another polymer. Therefore, 0.5 % (w/v) moringa gum (MG) was added. The purpose of this study was to assess how pine cone extract (PCE) affected the physiochemical and mechanical properties of corn starch and moringa gum (CS/MG) films and their use as UV-blocking composites. The findings suggest that the PCE improved the elongation at break from 3.27 % to 35.2 % while greatly reducing the tensile strength. The hydrogen bonding between CS/MG and PCE was visible in the FTIR spectra. The XRD graph indicated that the films were amorphous. In comparison to CS/MG films, PCE-incorporated edible films demonstrated significant UV-blocking ability indicating their potential as sustainable packaging material for light-sensitive food products.

ABSTRACT: Cleft palate leads to difficulty in suckling, speech abnormalities, dental problems, hearing loss and middle ear infections. Feeding plate acts as a barrier between the oral and nasal cavities allowing the normal development of jaws and enhanced nutritional supply to the patient. Fabrication of the feeding plate using digital means provide better adaptability due to the engagement of all the possible favourable anatomic undercuts, thereby, providing better retention. This case report discusses the hybrid technique including both the digital and conventional means for fabrication of a feeding plate to obturate the defect between the oral and nasal cavity.

This study presents a novel biosorbent developed by immobilizing dead Sp2b bacterial biomass into calcium alginate (CASp2b) to efficiently remove arsenic (AsIII) from contaminated water. The bacterium Sp2b was isolated from arsenic-contaminated industrial soil of Punjab, a state in India. The strain was designated Acinetobacter sp. strain Sp2b as per the 16S rDNA sequencing, GenBank accession number -OP010048.The CASp2b was used for the biosorption studies after an initial screening for the biosorption capacity of Sp2b biomass with immobilized biomass in both live and dead states. The optimum biosorption conditions were examined in batch experimentations with contact time, pH, biomass, temperature, and AsIII concentration variables. The maximum biosorption capacity (qmax = 20.1 ± 0.76 mg/g of CA Sp2b) was obtained at pH9, 35 ̊ C, 20 min contact time, and 120 rpm agitation speed. The isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic modeling of the experimental data favored Freundlich isotherm (R2 = 0.941) and pseudo-2nd-order kinetics (R2 = 0.968) with endothermic nature (ΔH° = 27.42) and high randomness (ΔS° = 58.1).The scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) analysis indicated the As surface binding. The reusability study revealed the reasonable usage of beads up to 5 cycles. In conclusion, CASp2b is a promising, efficient, eco-friendly biosorbent for AsIII removal from contaminated water.
