RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We used computer-assisted image analysis to determine whether preexisting histological features of the cephalic vein influence the risk of non-maturation of wrist fistulas. METHODS: This study focused on patients aged 20-80 years who underwent their first wrist fistula creation. A total of 206 patients participated, and vein samples for Masson's trichrome staining were collected from 134 patients. From these, 94 patients provided a complete girth of the venous specimen for automatic image analysis. Maturation was assessed using ultrasound within 90 days after surgery. RESULTS: The collagen to muscle ratio in the target vein, measured by computer-assisted imaging, was a strong predictor of non-maturation in wrist fistulas. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed an area under the curve of 0.864 (95% confidence interval of 0.782-0.946, p < 0.001). The optimal cut-off value for the ratio was 1.138, as determined by the Youden index maximum method, with a sensitivity of 89.0% and specificity of 71.4%. For easy application, we used a cutoff value of 1.0; the non-maturation rates for patients with ratios >1 and ≤ 1 were 51.7% (15 out of 29 patients) and 9.2% (6 out of 65 patients), respectively. Chi-square testing revealed significantly different non-maturation rates between the two groups (X2 (1, N = 94) = 20.9, p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Computer-assisted image interpretation can help to quantify the preexisting histological patterns of the cephalic vein, while the collagen-to-muscle ratio can predict non-maturation of wrist fistula development at an early stage.

RESUMO

Salicylic acid (SA) is a key hormone that regulates plant growth and immunity, and understanding the physiologic processes induced by SA enables the development of highly pathogen-resistant crops. Here, we report the synthesis of three new SA-sensors (R1-R3) from hydroxyphenol derivatives of a rhodamine-acylhydrazone scaffold and their characterization by NMR and HRMS. Spectroscopic analyses revealed that structural variations in R1-R3 resulted in sensors with different sensitivities for SA. Sensor R2 (with the 3-hydroxyphenyl modification) outperformed R1 (2-hydroxyphenyl) and R3 (4-hydroxyphenyl). The SA-detection limit of R2 is 0.9 µM with an ultra-fast response time (<60 s). In addition, their plant imaging indicated that designed sensor R2 is useful for the further study of SA biology and the discovery and development of new inducers of plant immunity.

RESUMO

Plant bacterial diseases are an intractable problem due to the fact that phytopathogens have acquired strong resistances for traditional pesticides, resulting in restricting the quality and yield of agricultural products around the world. To develop new agrochemical alternatives, we prepared a novel series of sulfanilamide derivatives containing piperidine fragments and assessed their antibacterial potency. The bioassay results revealed that most molecules displayed excellent in vitro antibacterial potency towards Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac). In particular, molecule C4 exhibited outstanding inhibitory activity toward Xoo with EC50 value of 2.02 µg mL-1, which was significantly better than those of the commercial agents bismerthiazol (EC50 = 42.38 µg mL-1) and thiodiazole copper (EC50 = 64.50 µg mL-1). A series of biochemical assays confirmed that compound C4 interacted with dihydropteroate synthase, and irreversibly damaged the cell membrane. In vivo assays showed that the molecule C4 presented acceptable curative and protection activities of 34.78% and 39.83%, respectively, at 200 µg mL-1, which were greater than those of thiodiazole and bismerthiazol. This study highlights the valuable insights for the excavation and development of new bactericides that can concurrently target dihydropteroate synthase and bacterial cell membranes.

RESUMO

Objectives: To report our experience and clinical results of neurosalvage techniques, performed by interventional cardiologists without moving the patient, to manage cerebral thromboembolic complications. Background: Iatrogenic emboli may be released during an endovascular procedure, causing permanent neurological complications and catastrophic outcomes. Methods: Between July 2013 and December 2017, a total of eight patients suffered from embolic complications during endovascular procedures (two radiofrequency catheter ablation, five coronary angiogram/angioplasty, and one subclavian artery angioplasty). Catheter-based neurosalvage was attempted by experienced interventional cardiologists promptly in the same catheterization room. Results: The embolized locations were the M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery in four patients, the M2/M3 segments in three, and the basilar artery in one. Access to the supra-aortic vessels was achieved. Local intra-arterial thrombolysis was given in five patients (63%) and balloon angioplasty in three (38%). Intra-arterial thrombectomy with a stent retriever was attempted in three patients but failed in one. A combination of different techniques was used in three patients (38%). Final thrombolysis in cerebral infarction grade 3 flow was achieved in seven patients (88%). Favorable clinical outcomes at 1-month follow-up (modified Rankin scale of 0-2) were observed in seven patients (88%), and none of the patients had died at 12 months. Conclusions: Our experience demonstrated that acute embolic complications during an endovascular procedure can be salvaged by interventional cardiologists with acceptable angiographic and clinical results.

RESUMO

The emergence of phytopathogenic bacteria resistant to antibacterial agents has rendered previously manageable plant diseases intractable, highlighting the need for safe and environmentally responsible agrochemicals. Inhibition of bacterial cell division by targeting bacterial cell division protein FtsZ has been proposed as a promising strategy for developing novel antibacterial agents. We previously identified 4'-demethylepipodophyllotoxin (DMEP), a naturally occurring substance isolated from the barberry species Dysosma versipellis, as a novel chemical scaffold for the development of inhibitors of FtsZ from the rice blight pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). Therefore, constructing structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies of DMEP is indispensable for new agrochemical discovery. In this study, we performed a structure-activity relationship (SAR) study of DMEP derivatives as potential XooFtsZ inhibitors through introducing the structure-based virtual screening (SBVS) approach and various biochemical methods. Notably, prepared compound B2, a 4'-acyloxy DMEP analog, had a 50% inhibitory concentration of 159.4 µM for inhibition of recombinant XooFtsZ GTPase, which was lower than that of the parent DMEP (278.0 µM). Compound B2 potently inhibited Xoo growth in vitro (minimum inhibitory concentration 153 mg L-1) and had 54.9% and 48.4% curative and protective control efficiencies against rice blight in vivo. Moreover, compound B2 also showed low toxicity for non-target organisms, including rice plant and mammalian cell. Given these interesting results, we provide a novel strategy to discover and optimize promising bactericidal compounds for the management of plant bacterial diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Treating vessels with a very small reference vessel diameter (RVD) in coronary artery disease is challenging. OBJECTIVE: Long-term evaluation of new-generation drug-eluting stents (DESs) for the treatment of coronary lesions with different RVDs. METHODS: From April 2009 to March 2019, 780 patients who underwent single coronary stenting were divided into ≤ 2.25 (very small), 2.5-3.0 (small), and ≥ 3.5 mm (large) DES groups after 1:2:2 propensity score matching. The primary endpoint was target lesion failure (TLF), and the secondary endpoints were major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) and stent thrombosis (ST). RESULTS: During 3 years after new-generation DES implantation, TLF and MACE rates were significantly lower in the very small DES group. The risk of TLF was significantly lower in the very small DES group compared to the small DES group [very small vs. small: TLF, adjusted hazard ratio (HR) = 0.282, p = 0.040]. The risks of MACEs and all-cause mortality were significantly lower in the very small DES group compared to the small DES group (very small vs. small: MACEs, adjusted HR = 0.215, p = 0.001; all-cause mortality, adjusted HR = 0.181, p = 0.005). The cumulative incidence rates of TLF-free (log-rank test p = 0.001) and MACE-free (log-rank test p < 0.001) survival were significantly different among the groups, and the very small DES group had a high event-free survival rate. No cases of ST occurred in any group. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that the use of new-generation DESs for treating coronary lesions in very small vessels is safe and effective.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional topological materials have attracted intense research efforts owing to their promise in applications for low-energy, high-efficiency quantum computations. Group-VA elemental thin films with strong spin-orbit coupling have been predicted to host topologically nontrivial states as excellent two-dimensional topological materials. Herein, we experimentally demonstrated for the first time that the epitaxially grown high-quality antimonene monolayer islands with buckled configurations exhibit significantly robust one-dimensional topological edge states above the Fermi level. We further demonstrated that these topologically nontrivial edge states arise from a single p-orbital manifold as a general consequence of atomic spin-orbit coupling. Thus, our findings establish monolayer antimonene as a new class of topological monolayer materials hosting the topological edge states for future low-power electronic nanodevices and quantum computations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor sacubitril/valsartan is known to improve outcomes of cardiac death and hospitalization due to heart failure in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, data on improvements in ejection fraction after using sacubitril/valsartan are still lacking in Taiwan. METHODS: We conducted this prospective, single armed, observation cohort study to evaluate changes in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in patients with heart failure and reduced LVEF treated with sacubitril/valsartan. This was an all-comer study. We prescribed sacubitril/valsartan as both first-line and second-line therapy to every eligible patient regardless of whether they were already on standard therapy or newly-diagnosed with HFrEF. The primary outcome was improvements in LVEF. We also collected data about changes in left ventricular chamber size, blood pressure, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and renal function according to serum creatinine level. RESULTS: During March 2016 to April 2018, 93 patients were enrolled. The mean LVEF improved from 35 ± 6.1% to 50 ± 8.8% at 6 months use of sacubitril/valsartan (p < 0.001). The left ventricular end-diastolic diameter, left ventricular end-systolic diameter, and left atrial diameter all decreased. The average NT-proBNP level decreased from 6379 pg/mL to 1661 pg/dL. CONCLUSIONS: Sacubitril/valsartan demonstrated a significant effect in improving LVEF, left ventricular reverse remodeling, and reduction of NT-proBNP in this Taiwanese cohort.

RESUMO

KEY MESSAGE: The relationships between transcription and methylation were revealed in Arabidopsis thaliana NB-LRR-encoding genes in wild type (Col-0) and different mutants. Plant nucleotide-binding, leucine-rich repeat (NB-LRR) proteins constitute a large family that plays predominant roles in disease resistance. However, the regulation of NB-LRR-encoding genes at the transcriptional level is still poorly understood. Recently, DNA cytosine methylation in eukaryotes has been described as serving an important function in regulating gene expression. Here, we analysed the DNA methylation patterns of NB-LRR-encoding genes in Arabidopsis thaliana in samples from a wild type (Col-0) and ago4, met1, cmt3, drm1/2, and ddm1 mutants. Our results revealed that the vast majority of the NB-LRR-encoding genes in Col-0 were methylated, and the DNA methylation occurred predominantly in the CG sequence context. Moreover, DNA methylation was widely distributed in both the promoters and the bodies of most NB-LRR-encoding genes. Our results also showed that the loss of AGO4, MET1, CMT3, DRM1/2 or DDM1 functions generally led to decreased cytosine methylation in the NB-LRR-encoding genes. Analysis of the available transcriptome data from the wild type and the met1, cmt3, drm1/2 and ddm1 mutants revealed that differences in the transcription levels between the wild type and mutants were statistically significant for 63 of the NB-LRR-encoding genes. Of these genes, 38 were significantly upregulated, and the other 25 were significantly downregulated. Some NB-LRR-encoding genes with differential expression levels, which were revealed by the mRNA-Seq data, were confirmed to be significantly upregulated or downregulated in the mutants compared to the wild type by using quantitative RT-PCR. These data suggest that some Arabidopsis NB-LRR-encoding genes are likely to be regulated by altered DNA methylation patterns.

RESUMO

Ten novel oleanolic acid (OA) derivatives were synthesized through modifications at positions of A ring and C-28. Inhibitory activities of the oleanolic acid derivatives against SGC7901 and A549 cell lines were evaluated and confirmed by the tetrazolium bromidesalt (MTT) assay. The lab results revealed that all these compounds displayed some antitumor activity against SGC-7901 and A-549 cell lines. Among them, II4 and II5 exhibited excellent antitumor activities against SGC7901 cells and A549 cells, compared with gefitinib. Molecular docking studies have shown that compounds II4 and II5 produce potent antitumor activities by interacting with C-kit receptor through hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic bonds.

RESUMO

Assembly of small clusters into rigid bodies with precise shape and symmetry has been witnessed by the significant advances in cluster-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), however, nanosized silver cluster based MOFs remain largely unexplored. Herein, two anion-templated silver clusters, CO3 @Ag20 and SO4 @Ag22 , were ingeniously incorporated into a 2D sql lattice (1, [CO3 @Ag20 (iPrS)10 (NO3 )8 (DMF)2 ]n ) and an unprecedented 3D two-fold interpenetrated dia network (2, [SO4 @Ag22 (iPrS)12 (NO3 )6 ⋅2 NO3 ]n ), respectively, under mild solvothermal conditions. Their atomically precise structures were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further consolidated by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and elemental analysis. Each drum-like CO3 @Ag20 cluster is extended by twelve NO3 (-) ions to form the 2D sql lattice of 1, whereas each ball-shaped SO4 @Ag22 cluster with a twisted truncated tetrahedral geometry is pillared by four [Ag6 (NO3 )3 ] triangular prisms to form the 3D interpenetrated dia network of 2. Notably, 2 is the first interpenetrated 3D MOF constructed from silver clusters. These results demonstrate the dual role of the anions, which not only internally act as anion templates to induce the formation of silver thiolate clusters but also externally extend the cluster units into the rigid networks. The photoluminescent and electrochemical properties of 2 are discussed in detail.

RESUMO

A new 3D Ag(I)-based coordination network, [Ag2(pz)(bdc)·H2O]n (1; pz = pyrazine and H2bdc = benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid), was constructed by one-pot assembly and structurally established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at different temperatures. Upon cooling from 298 to 93 K, 1 undergo an interesting single-crystal to single-crystal phase transition from orthorhombic Ibca (Z = 16) to Pccn (Z = 32) at around 148 K. Both phases show a rare 2-fold-interpenetrated 4-connected lvt network but incorporate different [Ag2(COO)2] dimeric secondary building units. It is worth mentioning that complex 1 shows red- and blue-shifted luminescences in the 290-170 and 140-80 K temperature ranges, respectively. The variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray crystallographic studies suggest that the argentophilic interactions and rigidity of the structure dominated the luminescence chromism trends at the respective temperature ranges. Upon being mechanically ground, 1 exhibits a slight mechanoluminescence red shift from 589 to 604 nm at 298 K.

RESUMO

Eleven novel ursolic acid (UA) derivatives were designed and synthesized with modification at positions of C-2, C-3, and C-28 of UA. Their structures were confirmed by MS, (1)H NMR, and elemental analysis. Their in vitro cytotoxicities against various cancer cell lines (HeLa, HepG2, and BGC-823) were evaluated by MTT assay. The results indicated that all compounds could inhibit cell proliferation of HeLa, HepG2, and BGC-823 cells. Among them, compounds I3 and I4 showed more potent cytotoxicity on these three tumor cells than gefitinib (positive control), worthy to be studied further.

RESUMO

Blumea balsamifera, also named Ainaxiang, is widely used as an ancient medicinal herb in tropical and subtropical Asia. It is rich in essential oils. In this work the essential oils of B. balsamifera from different plant organs and in different months were extracted, and then analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that essential oil yield of young leaves was the highest (0.65 mL/100 g), followed by mature leaves (0.57 mL/100 g), and the oil yield was higher in October (0.47 mL/100 g) than other months. A total of 44 compounds were identified, representing 92.64%-96.71% of the oil. Eighteen common chemical components were found among the six plant organs, representing >80% of the oil constituents. l-borneol was the main ingredient in leaves, and its content was the highest in senescent leaves and in December. In the essential oils of young shoots and young stems, the main component was dimethoxydurene. Antioxidant activity was also determined using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ß-carotene bleaching (BCB) assays. The results indicated that the ß-carotene bleaching activity was far stronger than the DPPH radical-scavenging capacity, and the young leaves and young shoots showed stronger antioxidant activity. Dimethoxydurene, ß-caryophyllene, and α-caryophyllene play a positive role in good antioxidant activity, while ß-eudesmol, phytol, and tetradecanal play a negative role. The antioxidant activity revealed in this study might help in developing this promising bioresource for use in the medicinal and cosmetic industries.

RESUMO

Survivin, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins family, is considered to be an important target of anticancer treatment for its key role in the control of cell division and cell apoptosis. Currently, only a few Survivin inhibitors have been developed, and most of them reduce Survivin level by interacting with other biomolecules instead of directly interacting with Survivin protein. This review summarizes the structure of Survivin protein, the mechanism of action and research progress of Survivin inhibitors, which may has a great significance in the study of selective Survivin inhibitors in the future.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence, clinical features, and treatment of perinatal cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, as well as the factors affecting the therapeutic effect of ganciclovir. METHODS: The clinical data of 237 infants who were hospitalized and diagnosed with perinatal CMV infection from 2008 to 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: The clinical features of infants with perinatal CMV infection and the proportion of such infants in all hospitalized infants showed no significant differences across the five years. In most infants, two or more systems were involved, and CMV hepatitis plus CMV pneumonia was most common (43.1%). The results of pathogen detection showed that the percentage of the infants with positive blood CMV-IgM and blood/urine CMV-DNA was 3.8%, while 90.3% of all infants had positive blood CMV-IgM alone and 5.9% had positive blood/urine CMV-DNA alone. A total of 197 infants were treated with ganciclovir, and the cure rate was 88.3%. An abnormal history of pregnancy (OR=6.191, 95% CI: 1.597-24.002) and liver involvement before medication (OR=3.705, 95% CI: 1.537-8.931) were the independent risk factors affecting the therapeutic effect of ganciclovir in infants with perinatal CMV infection. CONCLUSIONS: The epidemiological characteristics of perinatal CMV infection have remained generally stable for the last 5 years. CMV often involves several organs or systems, especially the liver and lung. Ganciclovir has a significant efficacy in the treatment of perinatal CMV infection, and an abnormal history of pregnancy and liver involvement before medication can increase the risk of ganciclovir resistance in infants with perinatal CMV infection.

RESUMO

Apoptosis plays a crucial role in many biological processes, including development, cellular homeostasis and immune responses. The BCL-2 family is a key regulator of the mitochondrial response to apoptotic signals in the intrinsic pathway. In this study, we identified and characterized the cDNA and expression pattern of pufferfish BCL-2 (PfBCL-2). The full-length cDNA of PfBCL-2 was 1412 bp with an open reading frame of 657 bp encoding a putative protein of 219 amino acids (Accession no: KP898414). The calculated molecular mass of the PfBCL-2 was 24.2 kDa with a predicted isoelectric point of 5.27. The deduced PfBCL-2 protein exhibited four highly conserved BCL-2 homology domains, suggesting that PfBCL-2 may play a similar role in the apoptotic-signaling pathway as in other species. Real-time PCR results showed that PfBCL-2 transcript was expressed in a wide range of tissues but exhibited the greatest level of expression in blood. Transcriptional responses of PfBCL-2 exhibited different spatial and temporal expression profiles in liver and blood after bacterial infection. PfBcl-2 transcript was significantly up-regulated in liver at 6, 12, 24 and 48 h (with maximum induction at 48 h) and was up-regulated in blood at 3, 6, 12 and 24 h (with maximum induction at 12 h). Meanwhile, recombinant PfBCL-2 fused with His6 tag was efficiently expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and purified using Ni-nitrilotriacetic acid resin. Western blot analysis indicated that its protein level appeared to be elevated during the initial bacterial infection. These results suggest that PfBCL-2 plays important roles in immune responses against bacteria challenge.

RESUMO

Chinese materia medica resource (CMM resource) is the foundation of the development of traditional Chinese medicine. In the study of sustainable utilization of CMM resource, adopting innovative theory and method to find new CMM resource is one of hotspots and always highlighted. Pharmacophylogeny interrogates the phylogenetic relationship of medicinal organisms (especially medicinal plants), as well as the intrinsic correlation of morphological taxonomy, molecular phylogeny, chemical constituents, and therapeutic efficacy (ethnopharmacology and pharmacological activity). This new discipline may have the power to change the way we utilize medicinal plant resources and develop plant-based drugs. Phylogenomics is the crossing of evolutionary biology and genomics, in which genome data are utilized for evolutionary reconstructions. Phylogenomics can be integrated into the flow chart of drug discovery and development, and extends the field of pharmacophylogeny at the omic level, thus the concept of pharmacophylogenomics could be redefined in the context of plant pharmaceutical resources. This contribution gives a brief discourse of knowledge pedigree of pharmacophylogeny, epistemology and paradigm shift, highlighting the theoretical and practical values of pharmacophylogenomics. Many medicinally important tribes and genera, such as Clematis, Pulsatilla, Anemone, Cimicifugeae, Nigella, Delphinieae, Adonideae, Aquilegia, Thalictrum, and Coptis, belong to Ranunculaceae family. Compared to other plant families, Ranunculaceae has the most species that are recorded in China Pharmacopoeia (CP) 2010. However, many Ranunculaceae species, e. g., those that are closely related to CP species, as well as those endemic to China, have not been investigated in depth, and their phylogenetic relationship and potential in medicinal use remain elusive. As such, it is proposed to select Ranunculaceae to exemplify the utility of pharmacophylogenomics and to elaborate the new concept empirically. It is argued that phylogenetic and evolutionary relationship of medicinally important tribes and genera within Ranunculaceae could be elucidated at the genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic levels, from which the intrinsic correlation between medicinal plant genotype and metabolic phenotype, and between genetic diversity and chemodivesity of closely related taxa, could be revealed. This proof-of-concept study regards pharmacophylogenomics as the updated version of pharmacophylogeny and would enrich the intension and spread the extension of pharmacophylogeny. The interdisciplinary knowledge and techniques will be integrated in the proposed study to promote development of CMM resource discipline and to boost sustainable development of Chinese medicinal plant resources.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to determine the potential long-term metabolic effects of early nutritional programming on carbohydrate utilisation in adult zebrafish (Danio rerio). High-carbohydrate diets were fed to fish during four ontogenetic stages: from the first-feeding stage to the end of the yolk-sac larval stage; from the first-feeding stage to 2 d after yolk-sac exhaustion; after yolk-sac exhaustion for 3 or 5 d. The carbohydrate stimuli significantly increased the body weight of the first-feeding groups in the short term. The expression of genes was differentially regulated by the early dietary intervention. The high-carbohydrate diets resulted in decreased plasma glucose levels in the adult fish. The mRNA levels and enzyme activities of glucokinase, pyruvate kinase, α-amylase and sodium-dependent glucose co-transporter 1 were up-regulated in the first-feeding groups. There was no significant change in the mRNA levels of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase) in any experimental group, and the activity of G6Pase enzyme in the FF-5 (first feeding to 2 d after yolk-sac exhaustion) group was significantly different from that of the other groups. The expression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase gene in all the groups was significantly decreased. In the examined early programming range, growth performance was not affected. Taken together, data reported herein indicate that the period ranging from the polyculture to the external feeding stage is an important window for potential modification of the long-term physiological functions. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that it is possible to permanently modify carbohydrate digestion, transport and metabolism of adult zebrafish through early nutritional programming.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Naturally occurring alkaloids are particularly suitable for use as pesticide precursors and further modifications due to their cost-effectiveness, unique mechanism of action, tolerable degradation, and environmental friendliness. The famous tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is a persistent plant pathogenic virus that can parasitize many plants and severely reduce crop production. To treat TMV disease, TMV helicase acts as a crucial target by hydrolyzing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to provide energy for double-stranded RNA unwinding. RESULTS: To seek novel framework alkaloid leads targeting TMV helicase, this work successfully established an efficient screening platform for TMV helicase inhibitors based on natural alkaloids. In vivo activity screening, enzyme activity detection, and binding assays showed that Rutaecarpine from Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth exhibited excellent TMV helicase inhibitory properties [dissociation constant (Kd ) = 1.1 µm, half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50 ) = 227.24 µm] and excellent anti-TMV ability. Molecular docking and dynamic simulations depicted that Rutaecarpine could stably bind in active pockets of helicase with low binding energy (ΔGbind = -17.8 kcal/mol) driven by hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. CONCLUSION: Given Rutaecarpine's laudable bioactivity and structural modifiability, it can serve as a privileged building block for further pesticide discovery.
