RESUMO

Realizing high-performance thick electrodes is considered as a practical strategy to promote the energy density of lithium-ion batteries. However, establishing effective transport pathways for both lithium-ions and electrons in a thick electrode is very challenging. This study develops a hierarchical conductive network structure for constructing high-performance NMC811 (LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2) cathode toward stable cycling at high areal mass loadings. The hierarchical conductive networks are composed of a Li+/e- mixed conducting interface (lithium polyacrylate/hydroxyl-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes) on NMC811 particles, and a segregated network of single-walled carbon nanotubes in the electrode, without any additional binders or carbon black. Such strategy endows the NMC811 cathode (up to 250 µm and 50 mg cm-2) with low porosity/tortuosity, ultrahigh Li+/e- conductivities and excellent mechanical property at low carbon nanotube content (1.8 wt%). It significantly improves the electrochemical reaction homogeneity along the electrode depth, meanwhile effectively inhibits the side reactions at the electrode/electrolyte interface and cracks in the NMC particles during cycling. This work emphasizes the crucial role of the electronic/ionic cooperative transportation in the performance deterioration of thick cathodes, and provide guidance for architecture optimization and performance improvement of thick electrodes toward practical applications, not just for the NMC811 cathode.

RESUMO

Chromosome segregation requires assembly of kinetochores on centromeric chromatin to mediate interactions with spindle microtubules and control cell-cycle progression. To elucidate the protein architecture of human kinetochores, we developed a two-color fluorescence light microscopy method that measures average label separation, Delta, at <5 nm accuracy. Delta analysis of 16 proteins representing core structural complexes spanning the centromeric chromatin-microtubule interface, when correlated with mechanical states of spindle-attached kinetochores, provided a nanometer-scale map of protein position and mechanical properties of protein linkages. Treatment with taxol, which suppresses microtubule dynamics and activates the spindle checkpoint, revealed a specific switch in kinetochore architecture. Cumulatively, Delta analysis revealed that compliant linkages are restricted to the proximity of chromatin, suggested a model for how the KMN (KNL1/Mis12 complex/Ndc80 complex) network provides microtubule attachment and generates pulling forces from depolymerization, and identified an intrakinetochore molecular switch that may function in controlling checkpoint activity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Iopamidol is a non-ionic, water-soluble iodine contrast agent that is considered safe for intravenous or intra-arterial administration and is widely used both in the general population and in patients undergoing oncological treatment. While adverse reactions to iopamidol have been documented, to date, no pulmonary and gastric hemorrhages induced by iopamidol have been reported in oncology patients. We report the first case of this complication. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 60-year-old woman with marginal zone lymphoma who was receiving antineoplastic therapy. As part of the investigation for the condition, she underwent chest enhancement CT with iopamidol. Shortly thereafter(within five minutes), she experienced hemoptysis and hematemesis. She was intubated and admitted to the intensive care unit. Pre- and post-contrast images demonstrated the course of the hemorrhage. Flexible bronchoscopy and gastroscopy on the following day showed no active bleeding, and the patient recovered completely after antiallergy treatment. We speculate that contrast-induced hypersensitivity was the most likely cause of the transient pulmonary and gastric bleeding. CONCLUSION: Although rare, the complications of iopamidol, which may cause allergic reactions in the lungs and stomach, should be considered.

RESUMO

Vertical-slot fishway (VSF) has been used in many water conservancy projects to restore the river connectivity. A high-quality fishway project should facilitate fish to discovering the exit and passing through, avoiding to long stay in the fishway and delay the migration. Current research on fishway engineering has not yielded an expected passing ratio of fish migration, and it is therefore of great significance to further study the assisting effect of VSF in fish migration. To begin with, we preliminarily determined the attractive and repelling colors of grass carps based on their swimming behavior in a static water pool configured with local colors. Combined with the migration route of the grass carp in a VSF pool without local coloring, four local coloring cases were designed. Based on the camera results of the four experimental local coloring cases, a comparative analysis was conducted with the blank control group frame by frame. This was followed by the statistics of the number of successfully migrated grass carps and their total completion time. On that basis, the assisting effect of VSF in fish migration under the four cases was evaluated in terms of the reduction rate of migration route length, the reduction rate of completion time, and the improvement rate of passing ratio. The research outcomes indicated that green and blue act as attractive colors while yellow and red serve as repelling colors for grass carp. Adding colors to the training wall and dividing wall in the VSF pool, the migration route of grass carp was appropriately adjusted, alongside a shortened completion time and an improved passing ratio. Of the four local coloring cases, the recommended case showed a significant effect on migration route, with more concentrated moving trajectories and shortened route length. Typically, the migration route length decreased by 26%, and the frequency of fish long staying at the junction between the training wall and dividing wall was markedly reduced, as well as the frequency of fish swimming along the water flow from upstream to downstream. The completion time was shortened by 26%, and the passing ratio was enhanced by 44%. The approach of combining local coloring with fish behavior and fishway hydraulics in the pool surpassed the method that optimizes the fishway design only from the fishway hydraulics. The improved method greatly shortened the migration route length, reduced the completion time, and significantly improved the passing ratio of fish passage objects in the VSF. The present research mainly focuses on using model experiments to evaluate the local coloring cases. In the future studies, we will configure local colors to the sidewalls of on-site fishways using environmentally friendly paint or colored organic glass panels. With the monitoring results of the completion time and passing ratio of fish passage objects, the recommended case can be further verified and optimized, thereby providing a more reasonable and feasible local coloring case for assisting fish migration in the VSF project.

RESUMO

Refractory wounds present complex and serious clinical dilemmas in plastic and reconstructive surgeries. Currently, there are no standard guidelines for the treatment of refractory wounds. To observe the clinical effects of ultraviolet (UV) therapy combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on chronic refractory wounds. Between January 2021 and December 2022, 60 inpatients with chronic refractory wounds were enrolled. Twenty patients were assigned to each of control groups 1 and 2 and treatment group according to whether they received PRP or UV treatment. All the patients underwent thorough debridement. Control group 2 received UV radiation. The treatment group underwent UV radiation combined with PRP gel covering the wound. Control group 1 underwent routine dressing changes after surgery, followed by skin grafting or skin key transfer if needed. One month later, we observed the wound healing in the two groups. After 2-4 PRP gel treatments, the wounds of patients in the treatment group healed. The healing time was 25.25 ± 4.93 days, and the dressings were changed 4.15 ± 3.30 times, both of which were better outcomes than in both control groups. In the treatment group, epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin-like growth factor (IGF), platelet-derived growth factor (PGF), and transforming growth factor ß (TGF-ß) were slightly higher, and the concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was significantly higher than in the control group (p < 0.05). PRP combined with UV therapy significantly increased the concentration of wound growth factors, accelerated wound healing, shortened treatment time, reduced treatment costs, and alleviated pain in patients.

RESUMO

The development of methodologies for inducing and tailoring activities of catalysts is an important issue in various catalysis. The ultrathin 2D monolayer metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets with more accessible active sites and faster diffusion obtained by exfoliating 3D layered MOFs are of great potential as heterogeneous catalysts, but the rational design and preparation of 3D layered MOFs remains a grand challenge. Herein, a novel weak electrostatic interaction strategy to construct a 3D layered cerium-bearing MOF by coordinating chlorine-capped cerium nodes and linear photoactive methyl viologen (MV+ ) organic linkers is used. Under multiphoton excitation, the MV+ ligands and CeCl chromophores are triggered consecutively to form the high activity chlorine radical (Cl• ) for activation of inert C(sp3 )H bond through a hydrogen atom transfer. Benefiting from framework confinement effects, synergistic effects of two active sites and/or flexibility of the ultrathin framework nanosheets with high surface utilization, the observed activities increase in the order CeCl3 /MV+  < bulk 3D MOF crystals < 2D MOF nanosheets in photocatalysis. This work not only contributes a new strategy to construct 3D layered MOFs and their ultrathin nanosheets but also paves the way to use nanostructured MOFs to handle synergy of multiple molecular catalysts.

RESUMO

Air nanobubbles (A-NBs) in a circulating cooling water system have not been investigated, although their role is significant. In this paper, the influences of the contents of main salts and other parameters on the physicochemical characteristics and scale inhibition performance of A-NBs in circulating cooling water were investigated and the scale inhibition mechanism of A-NBs in a simulated circulating cooling water system was explored. A-NBs realized a higher scale inhibition rate of 90%, which was higher than that of 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (40%), and A-NBs stably existed for more than 5 days in the complex water environment. Four interface functions were proposed to interpret the scale inhibition effect of A-NBs in circulating cooling water as follows. First, the negatively charged surface of A-NBs adsorbed cations (Ca2+) reduced the concentration of scaling ions. Second, the negatively charged surface of A-NBs could also adsorb microcrystals, and their crystal-like seed action was conducive to the formation of large-size crystals, broke the rules of crystal growth, and reduced the adhesion of scales to the pipe wall. Third, A-NBs could also form a bubble layer after they were adsorbed on the inner surface of pipes, thereby preventing the deposition of scales on the surface. Fourth, A-NB burst caused local turbulence, increased the shear force onto the pipe surface, and reduced the scales adhering to the pipe surface. The interface effect of A-NBs in metal pipes is important in many industrial applications. This study laid the basis for the development of a new green A-NB scale-inhibiting technology.

RESUMO

Small molecule kinase inhibitors (SMKIs) are of heightened interest in the field of drug research and development. There are 79 (as of July 2023) small molecule kinase inhibitors that have been approved by the FDA and hundreds of kinase inhibitor candidates in clinical trials that have shed light on the treatment of some major diseases. As an important strategy in drug design, computer-aided drug design (CADD) plays an indispensable role in the discovery of SMKIs. CADD methods such as docking, molecular dynamic, quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics, pharmacophore, virtual screening, and quantitative structure-activity relationship have been applied to the design and optimization of small molecule kinase inhibitors. In this review, we provide an overview of recent advances in CADD and SMKIs and the application of CADD in the discovery of SMKIs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Exploring the libido status of male chronic headache patients and analyzing its relationship with headache symptoms, sleep, anxiety, and depression, providing reference for the comprehensive treatment of male chronic headache. METHODS: 179 patients with chronic headache who visited the Third Affiliated Hospital of Qiqihar Medical College from January 2022 to February 2023 were selected. The male Self Rated Libido Scale , Visual Analog Scale for Pain, Migraine Disability Assessment Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7, and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used to evaluate the libido status, headache severity, disability level, sleep quality, anxiety, and depression of the research subjects, respectively. RESULTS: Among 179 male chronic headache patients, 97 were chronic migraine (CM) patients and 82 were chronic tension type (CTT) patients, and 47 were screened for low libido. The influencing factors of libido in male chronic headache patients include age, smoking, frequency of exercise, course of disease, severity of pain, frequency of headache, disability score, sleep quality, anxiety and depression (all P<0.05). Compared with male CTT patients, male CM patients have higher pain severity, headache frequency, disability score, and anxiety score, while lower libido score (all P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that age, frequency of exercise, course of disease, severity of pain, frequency of headache, degree of disability, sleep quality, anxiety, and depression were the influencing factors for the decline of libido in male chronic headache patients. CONCLUSION: It is common for male chronic headache patients to experience decreased libido, with male chronic migraine (CM) patients exhibiting more severe reductions. Advanced age, decreased physical activity, longer disease duration, severe pain intensity, frequent headaches, higher disability levels, poor sleep, anxiety, and depression are risk factors for decreased libido in male chronic headache patients.

RESUMO

The determination of lactic acid content has a guiding significance for disease diagnosis or food supervision. Herein, a hydrogel-based three-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) sensor for specific detection of lactic acid is introduced. The hydrogel was prepared by one-step copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide and acrylamide in the presence of oxamate derivative 2-((6-acrylamidohexyl) amino)-2-oxoacetic acid (AOA). An obvious color change from orange-red to purple and a 45-nm redshift of the reflection peak were obtained in 3 min when lactic acid concentration increased from 0 to 20 mM. The detection limit was confirmed as 0.1 mM, and the prepared sensor can be reused more than 20 times. Moreover, the affinity and selectivity of AOA to lactic acid were proven by both the interaction energy from density functional theory (DFT) study and the comparison to those of pyruvate and propionic acid. This sensor was proven to be cost-effective and convenient with rapid response time, good reusability, and selectivity.

RESUMO

Micromachining uniform features inside transparent materials is of great importance. The generation of highly uniform parallel laser beams based on spatial light modulators is a valid way to realize it. A movable magnifying optical feedback approach is proposed. By using a flip mirror and adjusting a movable stage, magnified 3D information such as energy and the position of the split individual parallel laser beams could be obtained and fed back for optimization. Thanks to this setup, active adjustment of holographic algorithm parameters for the energy uniformity and accurate temporal distribution of the parallel laser beams becomes possible. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are then demonstrated by laser scribing inside silica glass. We pave a way for uniform 3D laser manipulation and subtle microfabrication.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of multiparametric transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and to design diagnostic scoring systems based on four modes of TRUS to predict peripheral zone prostate cancer (PCa) and clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa). METHODS: A development cohort involved 124 nodules from 116 patients, and a validation cohort involved 72 nodules from 67 patients. Predictors for PCa and csPCa were extracted to construct PCa and csPCa models based on regression analysis of the development cohort. An external validation was performed to assess the performance of models using area under the curve (AUC). Then, PCa and csPCa diagnostic scoring systems were established to predict PCa and csPCa. The diagnostic accuracy was compared between PCa and csPCa scores and PI-RADS V2, using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: Regression models were established as follows: PCa = - 8.284 + 4.674 × Margin + 1.707 × Adler grade + 3.072 × Enhancement patterns + 2.544 × SR; csPCa = - 7.201 + 2.680 × Margin + 2.583 × Enhancement patterns + 2.194 × SR. The PCa score ranged from 0 to 6 points, and the csPCa score ranged from 0 to 3 points. A PCa score of 5 or higher and a csPCa score of 3 had the greatest diagnostic performance. In the validation cohort, the AUC for the PCa score and PI-RADS V2 in diagnosing PCa were 0.879 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.790-0.967) and 0.873 (95%CI 0.778-0.969). For the diagnosis of csPCa, the AUC for the csPCa score and PI-RADS V2 were 0.806 (95%CI 0.700-0.912) and 0.829 (95%CI 0.727-0.931). CONCLUSIONS: The multiparametric TRUS diagnostic scoring systems permitted better identifications of peripheral zone PCa and csPCa, and their performances were comparable to that of PI-RADS V2.

RESUMO

It is highly desired to enhance charge separation and O2 adsorption of the pyropheophorbide-a (Ppa) to promote visible-light activity and stability. Herein, Ppa modified 001-facet-exposed TiO2 nanosheets (Ppa/001T) nanocomposites with different weight ratios were fabricated via the self-assembly approach by OH induced. Compared with the bare Ppa, the 8% amount optimized 8Ppa/001T sample displayed 41-fold enhanced activity for degradation of Ametryn (AME) under visible-light irradiation. The promoted photoactivities could be attributed to the accelerated charge carrier's separation by coupling TiO2 as thermodynamic platform for accepting the photoelectrons with high energy from Ppa and the promoted O2 adsorption because of the residual fluoride on TiO2. As for this, a distinctive two radicals (•O2- and •OH) involved pathway of AME degradation is carried out, which is different from the radical pathway dominated by •O2- for the bare Ppa. This work is of utmost importance since it gives us detailed information regarding the charge carrier's separation and the impact of the radical pathway that will pave a new approach toward the design of high activity visible-light driven photocatalysts.

RESUMO

Traditional Chinese medicine considers Lonicerae japonicae flos to have antibacterial detoxification, liver protection, and gallbladder protection. At present, studies have proven that Lonicerae japonicae flos has a good therapeutic effect on liver injury. Therefore, to confirm the clinical applicability of Lonicerae japonicae flos in the treatment of liver injury, we were the first to compare the pharmacokinetics of an oral ethanol extract of Lonicerae japonicae flos in normal rats and carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury model rats. A method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 3-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-caffeoylquinic acid, 5-caffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, protocatechuic acid, Sweroside, and Secoxyloganin in rat plasma by ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The results show that the method is reliable and reproducible and can be used for quantitative determination of biological samples. The pharmacokinetic parameters showed that the area under the concentration-time curve of eight compounds in the model group was significantly increased. The results showed that the total absorption of the active components of Lonicerae japonicae flos in the blood increased, the clearance rate slowed down, and the bioavailability of Lonicerae japonicae flos increased in liver injury diseases.

RESUMO

In this study, six strains of microbial agents were investigated as environmently friendly scale and corrosion inhibitors for industrial cooling water applications. The static jar tests along with characterization methods were applied to evaluate the scale inhibition performance. Results showed that under a concentration of 240 mg/L, the nitrobacteria, denitrobacteria and Lactobacillus agents reached high CaCO3 scale inhibition efficiencies of 83, 82, and 86% respectively. Characterization methods indicated the deposited crystals morphologies were modified and the crystals peak intensities were lowered. In addition, weight loss measurements, electrochemical measurements, surface characterization analyses were conducted to study the corrosion inhibition performances and mechanisms. It was found that at 40 °C, Bacillus cereus agent with 200 mg/L possessed the highest corrosion inhibition efficiency of 60.11% at 3 d, together with the second-lowest current density of 13.0 µA cm-2 at 12 d. The corrosion inhibition mechanisms were attributed to biofilm accumulation and biomineralization on Q235 CS surfaces to form protective film. The results suggested microbial agents have promising potential as environmently friendly scale and corrosion inhibitors for industrial cooling water applications.

RESUMO

During the operation of the circulating cooling water system, inorganic scale deposition may cause technical problems, such as reduction of heat transfer efficiency in cooling systems and obstruction of pipes. In the industry, chemicals are often used as scale inhibitors in scale deposition control, antiscalants popular in industry are generally phosphorus and nitrogen-containing chemicals, which may lead to eutrophication. However, increasing environmental concern and discharge limitations have guided antiscalants to move toward biodegradability, nontoxicity and cost-effectiveness. This paper reviews current research on the application of using bio-materials as scale inhibitors, including proteins and amino acids, polysaccharides, plant extracts, microbial reagents, and microbiological products. The non-bioaccumulation, low cost, readily biodegradability and sustainably available characters promote the development of green-scale inhibitor chemistry.

RESUMO

In this Letter, we present a new hybrid broadband-crossbar switching network that can switch multiple wavelengths on demand and can also multicast. This switch fabric is an improvement over our previous design in both switch footprint and power consumption, as it reduces the number of switching elements by approximately 50%. We compare the switch loss and crosstalk with that of a multiwavelength selective crossbar switch. We also comment on fabrication tolerance of second-order ring resonators based on experimental results of 64 second-order ring resonators, and more than 250 heaters.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Combining targeted biopsy (TB) with systematic biopsy (SB) is currently recommended as the first-line biopsy method by the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines in patients diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) with an abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The combined SB and TB indeed detected an additional number of patients with clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa); however, it did so at the expense of a concomitant increase in biopsy cores. Our study aimed to evaluate if ipsilateral SB (ipsi-SB) + TB or contralateral SB (contra-SB) + TB could achieve almost equal csPCa detection rates as SB + TB using fewer cores based on a different csPCa definition. METHODS: Patients with at least one positive prostate lesion were prospectively diagnosed by MRI. The combination of TB and SB was conducted in all patients. We compared the csPCa detection rates of the following four hypothetical biopsy sampling schemes with those of SB + TB: SB, TB, ipsi-SB + TB, and contra-SB + TB. RESULTS: The study enrolled 279 men. The median core of SB, TB, ipsi-SB + TB, and contra-SB + TB was 10, 2, 7 and 7, respectively (P < 0.001). ipsi-SB + TB detected significantly more patients with csPCa than contra-SB + TB based on the EAU guidelines (P = 0.042). They were almost equal on the basis of the Epstein criteria (P = 1.000). Compared with SB + TB, each remaining method detected significantly fewer patients with csPCa regardless of the definition (P < 0.001) except ipsi-SB + TB on the grounds of D1 (P = 0.066). Ten additional subjects were identified with a higher Gleason score (GS) on contra-SB + TB, and only one was considered as significantly upgraded (GS = 6 on ipsi-SB + TB to a GS of 8 on contra-SB + TB). CONCLUSIONS: Ipsi-SB + TB could acquire an almost equivalent csPCa detection value to SB + TB using significantly fewer cores when csPCa was defined according to the EAU guidelines. Given that there was only one significantly upgrading patient on contra-SB, our results suggested that contra-SB could be avoided.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor in men. Due to the lack of theoretical research on its pathogenic mechanism, the current cure rate is still low. miRNAs play an important role in the pathogenesis of various cancers. miRNA-214-5p plays an important role in the development of a variety of cancers. This study aims to explore the expression level of miR-214-5p in prostate cancer and make a preliminary study of its molecular mechanism in the development of prostate cancer to provide effective new strategies for the treatment of prostate cancer. METHODS: The target genes of miRNA-214-5p were predicted with bioinformatics technology, and the target relationship between miRNA-214-5p and its target genes was verified with dual luciferase reporter assay. RT-qPCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression levels of miRNA-214-5p and target genes in 50 clinical samples and two common prostate continuous cell lines, respectively. The targeting relationship between miRNA-214-5p and its target genes was verified with clinical data. miRNA-214-5p and miRNA-214-5p inhibitor was over-expressed in DU-145 cell lines to verify the effect of miRNA-214-5p on prostate cancer cell proliferation and SOX4 gene expression. And the mechanism of miRNA-214-5p inhibiting the proliferation of prostate cancer cells were analyzed by detecting the expression difference of downstream factors of SOX4 pathway. Bioinformatics analysis showed that miRNA-214-5p combined with SOX4 3'UTR region, and dual luciferase reporter assay further verified the reliability of the predicted results. The low expression of miRNA-214-5p was observed in prostate cancer tissues and cells, while high expression of SOX4 was observed in prostate cancer tissues and cells. RESULTS: Overexpression of miRNA-214-5p to prostate cancer cells significantly inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells, and the expression of SOX4 was inhibited in the transfected cell line. After transfection of miRNA-214-5p inhibitor into prostate cancer cells, the cell proliferation rate further increased. Meanwhile, overexpression of miRNA-214-5p effectively inhibited the expression of SOX4 downstream factors, including c-Myc, eIF4E, and CDK4. However, the specific knockdown of SOX4 through SOX4 shRNA significantly reduced the proliferation of prostate cancer cell lines. CONCLUSIONS: miRNA-214-5 can inhibit the proliferation of prostate cancer cells by specifically targeting S0X4 and inhibiting the expression of growth factors downstream of this pathway.

RESUMO

This paper describes a theory for mode locking and frequency comb generation by four-wave mixing in a semiconductor quantum-dot active medium. The derivation uses a multimode semiclassical laser theory that accounts for fast carrier collisions within an inhomogeneous distribution of quantum dots. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the role of active medium nonlinearities in mode competition, gain saturation, carrier-induced refractive index and creation of combination tones that lead to locking of beat frequencies among lasing modes in the presence of cavity material dispersion.
