RESUMO

Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) is a tumor suppressor that functions as the substrate recognition subunit of the CRL2VHL E3 complex. While substrates of VHL have been identified, its tumor suppressive role remains to be fully understood. For further determination of VHL substrates, we analyzed the physical interactome of VHL and identified the histone H3K9 methyltransferase SETBD1 as a novel target. SETDB1 undergoes oxygen-dependent hydroxylation by prolyl hydroxylase domain proteins and the CRL2VHL complex recognizes hydroxylated SETDB1 for ubiquitin-mediated degradation. Under hypoxic conditions, SETDB1 accumulates by escaping CRL2VHL activity. Loss of SETDB1 in hypoxia compared with that in normoxia escalates the production of transposable element-derived double-stranded RNAs, thereby hyperactivating the immune-inflammatory response. In addition, strong derepression of TEs in hypoxic cells lacking SETDB1 triggers DNA damage-induced death. Our collective results support a molecular mechanism of oxygen-dependent SETDB1 degradation by the CRL2VHL E3 complex and reveal a role of SETDB1 in genome stability under hypoxia.

Proactive management of foodborne illness requires routine surveillance of foodborne pathogens, which requires developing simple, rapid, and sensitive detection methods. Here, a strategy is presented that enables the detection of multiple foodborne bacteria using a 3D nanostructure swab and deep learning-based Raman signal classification. The nanostructure swab efficiently captures foodborne pathogens, and the portable Raman instrument directly collects the Raman signals of captured bacteria. a deep learning algorithm has been demonstrated, 1D convolutional neural network with binary labeling, achieves superior performance in classifying individual bacterial species. This methodology has been extended to mixed bacterial populations, maintaining accuracy close to 100%. In addition, the gradient-weighted class activation mapping method is used to provide an investigation of the Raman bands for foodborne pathogens. For practical application, blind tests are conducted on contaminated kitchen utensils and foods. The proposed technique is validated by the successful detection of bacterial species from the contaminated surfaces. The use of a 3D nanostructure swab, portable Raman device, and deep learning-based classification provides a powerful tool for rapid identification (≈5 min) of foodborne bacterial species. The detection strategy shows significant potential for reliable food safety monitoring, making a meaningful contribution to public health and the food industry.

BACKGROUND: Intraperitoneal chemotherapy is promising for gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis. Although a phase III study failed to show a statistically significant superiority of intraperitoneal paclitaxel combined with S-1 and intravenous paclitaxel, the sensitivity analysis suggested clinical efficacy. Thus, attempts to combine intraperitoneal paclitaxel with other systemic therapies with higher efficacy have been warranted. We sought to explore the efficacy of intraperitoneal paclitaxel with S-1 and cisplatin. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Gastric cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis were enrolled in the phase II trial. In addition to the established S-1 and cisplatin regimen every 5 weeks, intraperitoneal paclitaxel was administered on days 1, 8, and 22 at a dose of 20 mg/m2. The primary endpoint was overall survival rate at 1 year after treatment initiation. Secondary endpoints were progression-free survival and toxicity. RESULTS: Fifty-three patients were enrolled and fully evaluated for efficacy and toxicity. The 1-year overall survival rate was 73.6% (95% confidence interval 59.5-83.4%), and the primary endpoint was met. The median survival time was 19.4 months (95% confidence interval, 16.1-24.6 months). The 1-year progression-free survival rate was 49.6% (95% confidence interval, 34.6-62.9%). The incidences of grade 3/4 hematological and non-hematological toxicities were 43% and 47%, respectively. The frequent grade 3/4 toxicities included neutropenia (25%), anemia (30%), diarrhea (13%), and anorexia (17%). Intraperitoneal catheter and implanted port-related complications were observed in four patients. There was one treatment-related death. CONCLUSIONS: Intraperitoneal paclitaxel combined with S-1 and cisplatin is well tolerated and active in gastric cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis.

Recently, the interest in charged polymers has been rapidly growing due to their uses in energy storage and transfer devices. Yet, polymer electrolyte-based devices are not on the immediate horizon because of the low ionic conductivity. In the present study, we developed a methodology to enhance the ionic conductivity of charged block copolymers comprising ionic liquids through the electrostatic control of the interfacial layers. Unprecedented reentrant phase transitions between lamellar and A15 structures were seen, which cannot be explained by well-established thermodynamic factors. X-ray scattering experiments and molecular dynamics simulations revealed the formation of fascinating, thin ionic shell layers composed of ionic complexes. The ionic liquid cations of these complexes predominantly presented near the micellar interfaces if they had strong binding affinity with the charged polymer chains. Therefore, the interfacial properties and concentration fluctuations of the A15 structures were crucially dependent on the type of tethered acid groups in the polymers. Overall, the stabilization energies of the A15 structures were greater when enriched, attractive electrostatic interactions were present at the micellar interfaces. Contrary to the conventional wisdom that block copolymer interfaces act as "dead zone" to significantly deteriorate ion transport, this study establishes a prospective avenue for advanced polymer electrolyte having tailor-made interfaces.

The conical phase shift induced by the axicon generates a non-diffracting Bessel beam. In this paper, we examine the propagation property of an electromagnetic wave focused by a thin lens and axicon waveplate combination, which induces a small amount of conical phase shift less than one wavelength. A general expression describing the focused field distribution has been derived under the paraxial approximation. The conical phase shift breaks the axial symmetry of intensity and shows a focal spot-shaping capability by controlling the central intensity profile within a certain range near focus. The focal spot-shaping capability can be applied to form a concave or flattened intensity profile, which can be used to control the concavity of a double-sided relativistic flying mirror or to generate the spatially uniform and energetic laser-driven proton/ion beams for hadron therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is one of the most malignant cancers and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, while acquired chemoresistance would represent a major problem in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) because of the reduced treatment effect and increased rates of recurrence. METHODS: To establish the chemoresistant NSCLC cells, doxorubicin was treated to A549 cells over 3 months at gradually increasing concentrations from 0.03 to 0.5 µM. Real-time PCR and Western blotting were employed for investigating mRNA and protein expression of the glutathione peroxidase (GPX) protein family and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1) in A549 and A549/CR cells. We also employed gas chromatography mass-spectrometry and nano electrospray ionization mass-spectrometry coupled with multivariate statistical analysis to characterize the unique metabolic and lipidomic profiles of chemoresistant NSCLC cells in order to identify potential therapeutic targets. RESULTS: Reactive oxygen species levels were decreased, and mRNA and protein levels of GPX2 and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1) were increased in A549/CR. We identified 87 metabolites and intact lipid species in A549 and A549/CR. Among these metabolites, lactic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, aspartic acid, succinic acid, and ceramide, alongside the PC to PE ratio, and arachidonic acid-containing phospholipids were suggested as characteristic features of chemoresistant NSCLC cells (A549/CR). CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals characteristic feature differences between drug-resistance NSCLC cells and their parental cells. We suggest potential therapeutic targets in chemoresistant NSCLC. Our results provide new insight into metabolic and lipidomic alterations in chemoresistant NSCLC. This could be used as fundamental information to develop therapeutic strategies for the treatment of chemoresistant NSCLC patients.

Obesity is a global health threat that causes various complications such as type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Gut microbiota is closely related to obesity. In particular, a higher Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio has been reported as a biomarker of obesity, suggesting that the phylum Bacteroidetes may play a role in inhibiting obesity. Indeed, the genus Bacteroides was enriched in the healthy subjects based on metagenome analysis. In this study, we determined the effects of Bacteroides stercoris KGMB02265, a species belonging to the phylum Bacteroidetes, on obesity both in vitro and in vivo. The cell-free supernatant of B. stercoris KGMB02265 inhibited lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, in which the expression of adipogenic marker genes was repressed. In vivo study showed that the oral administration of B. stercoris KGMB02265 substantially reduced body weight and fat weight in high-fat diet induced obesity in mice. Furthermore, obese mice orally administered with B. stercoris KGMB02265 restored glucose sensitivity and reduced leptin and triglyceride levels. Taken together, our study reveals that B. stercoris KGMB02265 has anti-obesity activity and suggests that it may be a promising candidate for treating obesity.

BACKGROUND: Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the most effective drugs for treating acid-related disorders. However, once-daily dosing with conventional PPIs fail to fully control acid secretion over 24 h. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of HIP1601 (dual delayed-release esomeprazole) and HGP1705 (delayed-release esomeprazole) in patients with erosive esophagitis (EE). METHODS: We enrolled 213 patients with EE randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive 40 mg HIP1601 (n = 107) or HGP1705 (n = 106) once daily for 4 or 8 weeks. The primary endpoint was the EE healing rate, confirmed by endoscopy up to week 8. GERD-related symptoms and treatment-emergent adverse events were compared between both groups. RESULTS: By week 8, the estimated healing rates of EE were 97.8% and 96.8% in the HIP1601 and HGP1705 groups, respectively, with a 95% confidence interval of -4.7 to 7.2. After 4 or 8 weeks of treatment, the EE healing rate at week 4, complete resolution rate of symptoms, time to sustained resolution of symptoms, and number of rescue medications used were similar in both groups. The proportion of heartburn- and acid regurgitation-free nights by week 4 were higher in the HIP1601 group compared to the HGP1705 group, but the difference did not reach clinical significance (87.7% vs. 85.8%, P = 0.514, 87.5% vs. 85.8%, P = 0.774). The number of adverse events did not differ significantly between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy and safety of HIP1601 40 mg were comparable to those of HGP1705 40 mg for the treatment of EE and symptomatic improvement of GERD. We present a strategic approach for enhancing the ionic conductivity of block copolymer electrolytes. This was achieved by introducing mixed ionic liquids (ILs) with varying molar ratios, wherein the imidazolium cation was paired with either tetrafluoroborate (BF4) anion or bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anion. Two polymer matrices, poly(4-styrenesulfonate)-b-polymethylbutylene (SSMB) and poly(4-styrenesulfonyl (trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide)-b-polymethylbutylene (STMB), were synthesized for this purpose. All the SSMB and STMB containing mixed ILs showed hexagonal cylindrical structures, but the type of tethered acid group significantly influenced the interfacial properties. STMB electrolytes demonstrated enhanced segregation strength, which was attributed to strengthened Coulomb and hydrogen bonding interactions in the ionic domains, where the ILs were uniformly distributed. In contrast, the SSMB electrolytes exhibited increased concentration fluctuations because the BF4 anions were selectively sequestered at the block interfaces. This resulted in the effective confinement of imidazolium TFSI along the ionic domains, thereby preventing ion trapping in dead zones and facilitating rapid ion diffusion. Consequently, the SSMB electrolytes with mixed ILs demonstrated significantly improved ionic conductivities, surpassing the expected values based on the arithmetic average of the conductivities of each IL, whereas the ionic conductivity of the STMB was aligned with the expected average. The methodology explored in this study holds great promise for the development of solid-state polymer electrolytes.

BACKGROUND: For the diagnosis of acute lateral ankle sprain, many clinicians use ultrasound; they typically focus on the lateral ligament complex, which is the most common site of lesions in ankle sprain. However, this approach risks missing other foot and ankle lesions. The present study aimed to provide and analyze the results of a new ultrasound method of diagnosis for acute lateral ankle sprain which can thoroughly investigate overall lesions of the foot and ankle. METHODS: Retrospective cross-sectional cohort study of 123 patients who underwent diagnostic ultrasound within 1 week of acute lateral ankle injury was performed. Causes of ankle sprain, incidence and severity of each ligament injury, location of anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) injury, accompanying ligament injury, and occult fracture were analyzed. RESULTS: Among the 102 cases of ATFL injuries, 60 (58.5%) had islolated ATFL injury, 28 (27.5%) had accompanying calcaneofibular ligament injury (CFL), and 14 (13.7%) had accompanying midtarsal or syndesmosis injury. ATFL injuries occurred on the fibula attachment in 48 (47.1%) cases, ligament mid-substance in 24 (23.5%) cases, and talus attachment in 30 (29.4%) cases. Among the 165 lesions from 123 cases, injuries of the fourth or fifth dorsal tarsometatarsal (12 cases, 7.3%), bifurcate (11 cases, 6.7%), and anterior tibiofibular (11 cases, 6.7%) ligaments were not rare. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that an ultrasound examination involving investigation of the midtarsal joint and syndesmotic ligament, as well as the ATFL and CFL, is useful for comprehensive, systemic diagnosis of acute lateral ankle sprain.

Background: Electroacupuncture (EA) has been known to exert analgesic effects according to several reports, but studies investigating the analgesic effect of EA using the quantitative sensory test (QST) are rare. Primary Study Objective: To investigate the analgesic effects of electroacupuncture through changes in thermal thresholds measured using the QST. Design: Pilot, randomized, single-blind, parallel design. Setting: The study was conducted at Dongguk University Bundang Oriental Hospital (DUBOH) in South Korea. Participants: We included 40 healthy participants age 20 to 40 years. Intervention: The EA group received EA for 30 minutes at 6 acupuncture points (LI4, PC6, LI10, LI11, ST36, and SP6) and the control group just rested. Outcome measures: The primary outcome measure was 4 thermal thresholds including warm detection (WDT), cold detection (CDT), hot pain (HPT), and cold pain (CPT) measured using QST at baseline and after 15, 30 and 60 minutes. The secondary outcomes were the intensity of acupuncture sensation (visual analogue scale [VAS]) and De-qi (Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale [MASS]). Results: The EA group showed significant changes in HPT (P < .001) and CPT (P = .049) compared with the control group, whereas WDT and CDT did not significantly differ. Furthermore, the changes in thermal thresholds were more pronounced in the higher intensity acupuncture sensation group (VAS ≥40) than in the lower intensity group (VAS < 40), although not significantly. The high De-qi group presented greater changes in WDT, CDT, HPT and CPT than the low De-qi group, as measured using MASS. It was especially statistically significant at HPT a feeling of "heaviness" and "dull pain" and at CDT of "tingling." We observed no adverse events related to the study. Conclusion: The change in thermal pain thresholds effected by EA supports the analgesic effect of EA reported in previous studies. The underlying mechanisms need to be holistically considered, and further studies are needed for definitive evidence.

A complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) detector array is proposed to improve the sub-terahertz imaging resolution for objects in the conveyor belt system. The image resolution is limited to the implemented configuration, such as the wide spacing in the detector array, the high conveyor belt speed, and the slow response of the signal conditioning block. The proposed array can improve the image resolution in the direction perpendicular to the movement of the belt, which is determined by the size and interval of the detector pixel, by configuring the array into two replaceable columns located at the misaligned horizontal positions. Replaceable detector unit pixels are individually attached to the motherboard after measuring and evaluating the detection performance to construct the proposed array. The intensities of 32 detector pixels placed under the conveyor belt with a width of 160 mm were initially calibrated in every image, including the beam pattern of 0.2 THz signals generated from the gyrotron. The image resolution of the perpendicular direction obtained from the proposed array was measured to be approximately 5 mm at a conveyor belt speed of 16 mm/s, demonstrating a 200% improvement in resolution compared to the conventional linear array under the same conditions.

Simulations using virtual patients have been utilized as an effective method in nursing education. However, keyword network analyses and topic modeling on simulations using virtual patients in nursing education have not yet been performed. In this study, 213 articles were retrieved from online research article databases. Abstracts from these articles were extracted, and network analysis was conducted using NetMiner version 4.3 (Cyram Inc, Seongnam, South Korea). Based on the study's analysis, scenario, communication, system, assessment, person, disaster, and management were identified as the keywords with high centrality values. Therefore, they were determined to be influential in the network. After topic modeling, 10 topics were derived as dementia care competency, pain assessment, airway placement management, operating procedure, presence and satisfaction, communication and attitude improvement, platform world, disaster response, game and video usability, and system for confidence. The identified trends in this study will help grasp the trends and insight to guide future research directions on simulations using virtual patients in nursing education.

BACKGROUNDS: The aims of this study were to construct spore-displayed p40, a Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG-derived soluble protein, using spore surface display technology and to evaluate transcriptional responses in human intestinal epithelial cells. RESULTS: p40 was displayed on the surface of Bacillus subtilis spores using spore coat protein CotG as an anchor protein. Effects of spore-displayed p40 (CotG-p40) on gene expression of intestinal epithelial cell line HT-29 were evaluated by transcriptome analysis using RNA-sequencing. As a result of differentially expressed gene (DEG) analysis, 81 genes were up-regulated and 82 genes were down-regulated in CotG-p40 stimulated cells than in unstimulated cells. Gene ontology enrichment analysis showed that CotG-p40 affected biological processes such as developmental process, metabolic process, cell surface receptor linked signaling pathway, and retinoic acid metabolic process. Gene-gene network analysis suggested that 10 DEGs (EREG, FOXF1, GLI2, PTGS2, SPP1, MMP19, TNFRSF1B, PTGER4, CLDN18, and ALDH1A3) activated by CotG-p40 were associated with probiotic action. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the regulatory effects of CotG-p40 on proliferation and homeostasis of HT-29 cells. This study provided comprehensive insights into the transcriptional response of human intestinal epithelial cells stimulated by CotG-p40.

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment for liver metastasis from gastric cancer (LMGC) remains uncertain. The relevance of surgical resection is controversial. We conducted a prospective multicenter interventional study of surgical resection for LMGC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with synchronous or metachronous LMGC who were surgically fit were registered. The primary endpoint was 3-year overall survival (OS) of patients who underwent R0 resection. Secondary endpoints were R0 resection rate, operative morbidity and mortality, 3-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) of R0 patients, and OS in all registered patients. RESULTS: Seventy patients were registered from 24 institutions between December 2011 and November 2019 and received preoperative chemotherapy. Three patients were ineligible, and 19 patients discontinued treatment, with disease progression in 12, adverse events in 4, and consent withdrawal in 3 before surgery. Of the 48 patients eventually undergoing surgery, R0 resection of the primary and/or metastatic GC was accomplished in 43 patients, while 1 patient discontinued treatment for positive peritoneal lavage cytology and 4 patients were considered ineligible based on postoperative pathological findings other than GC. The R0 resection rate of all eligible patients was 68.3% [95% confidence interval (CI) 55.3-79.4%, 43/63 patients], while that of all resected patients was 89.6% (95% CI 77.3-96.5%, 43/48 patients). Postoperative complications were identified in 12 out of 43 patients (27.9%), and Clavien-Dindo grade III or higher complications occurred in seven patients (16.3%). No hospital mortality was observed. CONCLUSIONS: R0 resection for LMGC could be performed in approximately two-thirds of all eligible patients, with acceptable surgical morbidity and mortality.

Charged block copolymers are promising materials for next-generation battery technologies and soft electronics. Although once it was only possible to prepare randomly organized structures, nowadays, well-ordered charged block copolymers can be prepared. In addition, theoretical and experimental analyses of the thermodynamic properties of charged polymers have provided insights into how to control nanostructures via electrostatic interactions and improve the ionic conductivity without compromising mechanical strength, which is crucial for practical applications. In this Account, we discuss methods to control the self-assembly and ion diffusion behavior of charged block copolymers by varying the type of tethered ionic moieties, local concentration of embedded ions with controlled electrostatic interactions, and nanoscale morphology. We discuss with particular emphasis on the structure-transport relationship of charged block copolymers using various ionic additives to control the phase behavior electrostatically as well as the ion transport properties. Through this, we establish the role of interconnected ionic channels in promoting ion-conduction and the importance of developing three-dimensional interconnected morphologies such as gyroid, orthorhombic Fddd (O70) networks, body-centered cubic (bcc), face-centered cubic (fcc), and A15 structures with well-defined interfaces in creating less tortuous ion-conduction pathways. Our prolonged surge and synthetic advances are pushing the frontiers of charged block copolymers to have virtually homogeneous ionic domains with suppressed ion agglomeration via the nanoconfinement of closely bound ionic moieties, resulting in efficient ion conduction and high mechanical strength.Subsequently, we discuss how, by using zwitterions, we have radically improved the ionic conductivity of single-ion conducting polymers, which have potential for use in next-generation electrochemical devices owing to the constrained anion depletion. Key to the improvement stems from hierarchically ordered ionic crystals in nanodomains of the single-ion block copolymers through the self-organization of the dipolar/ionic moieties under confinement. By precisely tuning the distances between ionic sites and the dipolar orientation in the ionic domains with varied zwitterion contents, unprecedented dielectric constants close to those of aqueous electrolytes have been achieved, leading to the development of high-conductivity solid-state single-ion conducting polymers with leak-free characteristics. Further, using these materials, low-voltage-driven artificial muscles have been prepared that show a large bending strain and millisecond-scale mechanical deformations at 1 V in air without fatigue, exceeding the performance of previously reported polymer actuators. Finally, smart multiresponsive actuators based on tailor-made charged polymers capable of programmable deformation with high force and self-locking without power consumption are suggested as candidates for use in soft robotics.

Molecular glue degraders, such as lenalidomide and pomalidomide, bind to cereblon (CRBN) E3 ligase and subsequently recruit neosubstrate proteins, Ikaros (IKZF1) and Aiolos (IKZF3), for the ubiquitination-proteasomal degradation process. In this study, we explored structure-activity relationship analysis for novel GSPT1 degraders utilizing a benzotriazinone scaffold previously discovered as a novel CRBN binder. In particular, we focused on the position of the ureido group on the benzotriazinone scaffold, substituent effect on the phenylureido group, and methyl substitution on the benzylic position of benzotriazinone. As a result, we identified 34f (TD-522), which exhibits strong anti-proliferative effects in both KG-1 (EC50 = 0.5 nM) and TMD-8 (EC50 = 5.2 nM) cell lines. Compound 34f effectively induced GSPT1 degradation with a DC50 of 0.269 nM and Dmax of >95 % at 10 nM concentration in KG-1 cells. An in vivo xenograft study showed that compound 34f effectively suppressed TMD8-driven tumor growth, suggesting a potential role in the development of novel GSPT1 degraders.

BACKGROUND: Long-term outcomes of single-incision laparoscopic colectomy (SILC) for colon cancer (CC), as practiced in real-world settings, especially in relation to disease stage, have not been established. We examined, retrospectively, both short- and long-term outcomes of SILC versus those of multiport laparoscopic colectomy (MPLC) performed for CC in a propensity-score-matched cohort. METHODS: The study involved 263 patient pairs matched 1:1 from among 691 patients who, between January 2008 and May 2014, underwent either SILC or MPLC for a primary solitary CC at our hospital. Short-term and long-term operative outcomes were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Operation time was the only surgical outcome that varied significantly between the two groups (p = 0.0004). Overall 5-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) in the SILC group was 93.7 (95% CI 89.6-96.2)%, and CSS per pathological stage (I, II and III) was 98.5 (90.0-99.8)%, 96.0 (88.2-98.7)%, and 88.3 (79.6-93.6)%, respectively, whereas overall 5-year CSS in the MPLC group was 93.3 (89.4-95.9)%, and CSS per pathological stage was 100%, 95.4 (88.3-98.3)%, and 84.1 (74.1-90.8)% (p = 0.5278, 0.2679, 0.7666, and 0.9073), respectively. Overall 3-year disease-free survival (DFS) in the SILC group was 94.0 (90.2-96.4)%, and 3-year DFS per pathological stage was 98.6 (90.4-99.8)%, 90.1 (81.4-95.0)%, and 79.0 (69.4-86.2)%, respectively, whereas overall 3-year DFS in the MPLC group was 93.2 (89.4-95.7)%, and 3-year DFS per pathological disease stage was 100%, 94.5 (87.4-97.7)% and 75.5 (64.7-83.8)% (p = 0.2829, 0.7401, 0.4335 and 0.8518), respectively. Thus, oncological outcomes did not differ significantly between groups. Incisional hernia occurred in 21 (8.0%) SILC group patients and 17 (6.5%) MPLC group patients, without a significant between-group difference (p = 0.6139). CONCLUSION: Our data indicate that perioperative and oncological outcomes of SILC performed for CC are comparable to those of MPLC performed for CC.

Neurotoxicity related to glufosinate ammonium is known to occur after a latent period of 4-60 hr following ingestion of this herbicide. However, neurotoxicity is difficult to predict in the emergency department (ED) and only a few parameters are known to be useful to indicate development of neurotoxicity. Determination of a systemic inflammation parameter such as the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), is a rapid and simple method which was found to be a prognostic marker in various clinical conditions such as sepsis, cardiac disorders, stroke, and cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether the NLR might predict neurotoxicity and be used at ED to detect neurotoxicity induced following glufosinate ammonium poisoning in admitted patients. This retrospective observational study collected data from consecutive patients diagnosed with acute glufosinate ammonium poisoning between January 2005 and December 2020. The primary outcome was development of neurotoxicity following acute glufosinate ammonium poisoning. Out of the 72 patients selected 44 patients (61.1%) exhibited neurotoxic symptoms. Neurotoxicity appeared with an approximate latent period of 12 hr. The NLR was significantly higher in the group displaying neurotoxicity. Multivariable analysis showed that the NLR was significant in predicting neurotoxicity. The NLR was independently associated with neurotoxicity initiated by glufosinate ammonium. Therefore, the use of the NLR might help clinically to readily and rapidly predict development of neurotoxicity associated with glufosinate ammonium at the ED.

A CMOS detector with a concurrent mode for high-quality images in the sub-terahertz region has been proposed. The detector improves output-signal coupling characteristics at the output node. A cross-coupling capacitor is added to isolate the DC bias between the drain and gate. The detector is designed to combine a 180° phase shift based on common source operation and an in-phase output signal based on the drain input. The circuit layout and phase shift occurring in the cross-coupled capacitor during phase coupling are verified using an EM simulation. The detector is fabricated using the TSMC 0.25-µm mixed-signal 1-poly 5-metal layer CMOS process, where the size, including the pad, is 1.13 mm × 0.74 mm. The detector IC comprises a folded dipole antenna, the proposed detector, a preamplifier, and a voltage buffer. Measurement results using a 200-GHz gyrotron source demonstrate that the proposed detector voltage responsivity is 14.13 MV/W with a noise-equivalent power of 34.42 pW/√Hz. The high detection performance helps resolve the 2-mm line width. The proposed detector exhibits a signal-to-noise ratio of 49 dB with regard to the THz imaging performance, which is 9 dB higher than that of the previous CMOS detector core circuits with gate-drain capacitors.
