OBJECTIVE: To characterize the use and impact of radiation dose reduction techniques in actual practice for routine abdomen CT. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive routine abdomen CT scans in adults from a large dose registry, contributed by 95 hospitals and imaging facilities. Grouping exams into deciles by, first, patient size, and second, size-adjusted dose length product (DLP), we summarized dose and technical parameters and estimated which parameters contributed most to between-protocols dose variation. Lastly, we modeled the total population dose if all protocols with mean size-adjusted DLP above 433 or 645 mGy-cm were reduced to these thresholds. RESULTS: A total of 748,846 CTs were performed using 1033 unique protocols. When sorted by patient size, patients with larger abdominal diameters had increased dose and effective mAs (milliampere seconds), even after adjusting for patient size. When sorted by size-adjusted dose, patients in the highest versus the lowest decile in size-adjusted DLP received 6.4 times the average dose (1680 vs 265 mGy-cm) even though diameter was no different (312 vs 309 mm). Effective mAs was 2.1-fold higher, unadjusted CTDIvol 2.9-fold, and phase 2.5-fold for patients in the highest versus lowest size-adjusted DLP decile. There was virtually no change in kV (kilovolt). Automatic exposure control was widely used to modulate mAs, whereas kV modulation was rare. Phase was the strongest driver of between-protocols variation. Broad adoption of optimized protocols could result in total population dose reductions of 18.6-40%. CONCLUSION: There are large variations in radiation doses for routine abdomen CT unrelated to patient size. Modification of kV and single-phase scanning could result in substantial dose reduction. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Radiation dose-optimization techniques for routine abdomen CT are routinely under-utilized leading to higher doses than needed. Greater modification of technical parameters and number of phases could result in substantial reduction in radiation exposure to patients. KEY POINTS: • Based on an analysis of 748,846 routine abdomen CT scans in adults, radiation doses varied tremendously across patients of the same size and optimization techniques were routinely under-utilized. • The difference in observed dose was due to variation in technical parameters and phase count. Automatic exposure control was commonly used to modify effective mAs, whereas kV was rarely adjusted for patient size. Routine abdomen CT should be performed using a single phase, yet multi-phase was common. • kV modulation by patient size and restriction to a single phase for routine abdomen indications could result in substantial reduction in radiation doses using well-established dose optimization approaches.

BACKGROUND: Financial toxicity is a growing concern due to its considerable effects on medical adherence, quality of life, and mortality. The cost associated with breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is substantial from diagnosis to treatment, including adjuvant therapy and surgery. This study aims to assess the prevalence of financial toxicity in BIA-ALCL patients. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional, survey-based study on women with confirmed cases of BIA-ALCL from December 2019 to March 2023. The primary study outcomes were financial toxicity measured by Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST) score and patient-reported financial burden measured by the responses to the Evaluation of the Financial Impact of BIA-ALCL survey. Lower COST scores signify higher financial toxicity. Responses were linked to patient data extracted from the medical records. RESULTS: Thirty-two women treated for confirmed BIA-ALCL were included. Patients were all White and were diagnosed at a median age of 51 years (range, 41-65 years). The mean COST score was 27.9 ± 2.23. Lower COST scores were associated with receipt of radiotherapy ( P = 0.033), exceeding credit card limits ( P = 0.036), living paycheck to paycheck ( P = 0.00027), requiring financial support from friends and family ( P = 0.00044), and instability in household finances ( P = 0.034). CONCLUSIONS: Financial toxicity is prevalent in BIA-ALCL patients and has a substantial impact on patient reported burden. Insurance denial is frequent for patients with a prior history of cosmetic augmentation. Risk assessments and cost discussions should occur throughout the care continuum to minimize financial burden.

PURPOSE: To update normative data on fluoroscopy dose indices in the United States for the first time since the Radiation Doses in Interventional Radiology study in the late 1990s. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Dose Index Registry-Fluoroscopy pilot study collected data from March 2018 through December 2019, with 50 fluoroscopes from 10 sites submitting data. Primary radiation dose indices including fluoroscopy time (FT), cumulative air kerma (Ka,r), and kerma area product (PKA) were collected for interventional radiology fluoroscopically guided interventional (FGI) procedures. Clinical facility procedure names were mapped to the American College of Radiology (ACR) common procedure lexicon. Distribution parameters including the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 95th, and 99th percentiles were computed. RESULTS: Dose indices were collected for 70,377 FGI procedures, with 50,501 ultimately eligible for analysis. Distribution parameters are reported for 100 ACR Common IDs. FT in minutes, Ka,r in mGy, and PKA in Gy-cm2 are reported in this study as (n; median) for select ACR Common IDs: inferior vena cava filter insertion (1,726; FT: 2.9; Ka,r: 55.8; PKA: 14.19); inferior vena cava filter removal (464; FT: 5.7; Ka,r: 178.6; PKA: 34.73); nephrostomy placement (2,037; FT: 4.1; Ka,r: 39.2; PKA: 6.61); percutaneous biliary drainage (952; FT: 12.4; Ka,r: 160.5; PKA: 21.32); gastrostomy placement (1,643; FT: 3.2; Ka,r: 29.1; PKA: 7.29); and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement (327; FT: 34.8; Ka,r: 813.0; PKA: 181.47). CONCLUSIONS: The ACR DIR-Fluoro pilot has provided state-of-the-practice statistics for radiation dose indices from IR FGI procedures. These data can be used to prioritize procedures for radiation optimization, as demonstrated in this work.

PURPOSE: To compare radiation dose index distributions for fluoroscopically guided interventions in interventional radiology from the American College of Radiology (ACR) Fluoroscopy Dose Index Registry (DIR-Fluoro) pilot to those from the Radiation Doses in Interventional Radiology (RAD-IR) study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Individual and grouped ACR Common identification numbers (procedure types) from the DIR-Fluoro pilot were matched to procedure types in the RAD-IR study. Fifteen comparisons were made. Distribution parameters, including the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 95th percentiles, were compared for fluoroscopy time (FT), cumulative air kerma (Ka,r), and kerma area product (PKA). Two derived indices were computed using median dose indices. The procedure-averaged reference air kerma rate (Ka,r¯) was computed as Ka,r / FT. The procedure-averaged x-ray field size at the reference point (Ar) was computed as PKA / (Ka,r × 1,000). RESULTS: The median FT was equally likely to be higher or lower in the DIR-Fluoro pilot as it was in the RAD-IR study, whereas the maximum FT was almost twice as likely to be higher in the DIR-Fluoro pilot than it was in the RAD-IR study. The median Ka,r was lower in the DIR-Fluoro pilot for all procedures, as was median PKA. The maximum Ka,r and PKA were more often higher in the DIR-Fluoro pilot than in the RAD-IR study. Ka,r¯ followed the same pattern as Ka,r, whereas Ar was often greater in DIR-Fluoro. CONCLUSIONS: The median dose indices have decreased since the RAD-IR study. The typical Ka,r rates are lower, a result of the use of lower default dose rates. However, opportunities for quality improvement exist, including renewed focus on tight collimation of the imaging field of view.

Clavicular reconstruction is typically managed conservatively. Despite demonstrating improving outcomes, including range of motion and pain, there are currently no published reports of acute reconstruction with vascularized free fibula flaps (VFFF) or vascularized periosteal extensions in adult patients with clavicular defects. VFFFs have been utilized to correct critical bony defects of the clavicle and chronic nonunions; however, descriptions following acute trauma are rare. Bony union enhancement with periosteal extension has been described in both pediatric and adult populations, but never in the case of clavicular reconstruction. Herein, we seek to fill this gap in the literature by describing the acute reconstruction of a 6.5 cm bony gap in a 29-year-old male following a gunshot wound to the chest, utilizing a 6.5 cm VFFF with periosteal extension, and inset to the internal mammary vessels. The postoperative course was uncomplicated, with bony consolidation noted by 10 weeks, and full, pain-free range of motion at 8 months, showing this technique may be a viable option following acute trauma.

Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare and clinically aggressive neoplasm that typically occurs in immunocompromised individuals, including those with HIV infection and solid organ allograft recipients. Most prior studies have focused on delineating the clinicopathologic features and genetic attributes of HIV-related PBLs, where MYC deregulation and EBV infection, and more recently, mutations in JAK/STAT, MAP kinase, and NOTCH pathway genes have been implicated in disease pathogenesis. The phenotypic spectrum of post-transplant (PT)-PBLs is not well characterized and data on underlying genetic alterations are limited. Hence, we performed comprehensive histopathologic and immunophenotypic evaluation and targeted sequencing of 18 samples from 11 patients (8 males, 3 females, age range 12-76 years) with PT-PBL; 8 de novo and 3 preceded by other types of PTLDs. PT-PBLs displayed morphologic and immunophenotypic heterogeneity and some features overlapped those of plasmablastic myeloma. Six (55%) cases were EBV+ and 5 (45%) showed MYC rearrangement by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Recurrent mutations in epigenetic regulators (KMT2/MLL family, TET2) and DNA damage repair and response (TP53, mismatch repair genes, FANCA, ATRX), MAP kinase (KRAS, NRAS, HRAS, BRAF), JAK/STAT (STAT3, STAT6, SOCS1), NOTCH (NOTCH1, NOTCH3, SPEN), and immune surveillance (FAS, CD58) pathway genes were observed, with EBV+ and EBV- cases exhibiting similarities and differences in their mutational profiles. Clinical outcomes also varied, with survival ranging from 0-15.9 years postdiagnosis. Besides uncovering the biological heterogeneity of PT-PBL, our study highlights similarities and distinctions between PT-PBLs and PBLs occurring in other settings and reveals potentially targetable oncogenic pathways in disease subsets.

OB JECTIVES: The European Society of Radiology identified 10 common indications for computed tomography (CT) as part of the European Study on Clinical Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs, EUCLID), to help standardize radiation doses. The objective of this study is to generate DRLs and median doses for these indications using data from the UCSF CT International Dose Registry. METHODS: Standardized data on 3.7 million CTs in adults were collected between 2016 and 2019 from 161 institutions across seven countries (United States of America (US), Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, UK, Israel, Japan). DRLs (75th percentile) and median doses for volumetric CT-dose index (CTDIvol) and dose-length product (DLP) were assessed for each EUCLID category (chronic sinusitis, stroke, cervical spine trauma, coronary calcium scoring, lung cancer, pulmonary embolism, coronary CT angiography, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), colic/abdominal pain, appendicitis), and US radiation doses were compared with European. RESULTS: The number of CT scans within EUCLID categories ranged from 8,933 (HCC) to over 1.2 million (stroke). There was greater variation in dose between categories than within categories (p < .001), and doses were significantly different between categories within anatomic areas. DRLs and median doses were assessed for all categories. DRLs were higher in the US for 9 of the 10 indications (except chronic sinusitis) than in Europe but with a significantly higher sample size in the US. CONCLUSIONS: DRLs for CTDIvol and DLP for EUCLID clinical indications from diverse organizations were established and can contribute to dose optimization. These values were usually significantly higher in the US than in Europe. KEY POINTS: • Registry data were used to create benchmarks for 10 common indications for CT identified by the European Society of Radiology. • Observed US radiation doses were higher than European for 9 of 10 indications (except chronic sinusitis). • The presented diagnostic reference levels and median doses highlight potentially unnecessary variation in radiation dose.

Genetic and environmental factors shape host susceptibility to infection, but how and how rapidly environmental variation might alter the susceptibility of mammalian genotypes remains unknown. Here, we investigate the impacts of seminatural environments upon the nematode susceptibility profiles of inbred C57BL/6 mice. We hypothesized that natural exposure to microbes might directly (e.g., via trophic interactions) or indirectly (e.g., via microbe-induced immune responses) alter the hatching, growth, and survival of nematodes in mice housed outdoors. We found that while C57BL/6 mice are resistant to high doses of nematode (Trichuris muris) eggs under clean laboratory conditions, exposure to outdoor environments significantly increased their susceptibility to infection, as evidenced by increased worm burdens and worm biomass. Indeed, mice kept outdoors harbored as many worms as signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) knockout mice, which are genetically deficient in the type 2 immune response essential for clearing nematodes. Using 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing of fecal samples, we discovered enhanced microbial diversity and specific bacterial taxa predictive of nematode burden in outdoor mice. We also observed decreased type 2 and increased type 1 immune responses in lamina propria and mesenteric lymph node (MLN) cells from infected mice residing outdoors. Importantly, in our experimental design, different groups of mice received nematode eggs either before or after moving outdoors. This contrasting timing of rewilding revealed that enhanced hatching of worms was not sufficient to explain the increased worm burdens; instead, microbial enhancement and type 1 immune facilitation of worm growth and survival, as hypothesized, were also necessary to explain our results. These findings demonstrate that environment can rapidly and significantly shape gut microbial communities and mucosal responses to nematode infections, leading to variation in parasite expulsion rates among genetically similar hosts.

RESUMO

Autologous fat grafting for buttock augmentation is one of the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures, but has also received significant publicity for the relatively high mortality rate secondary to fat emboli. The literature has grown exponentially in the past 5 years on this subject, helping to clarify our knowledge and providing recommendations to minimize risks, including avoiding intramuscular injections, placing the patient in the jackknife position, and utilizing larger-bore cannulas. Since the application of these recommendations, the rate of pulmonary fat embolism has decreased from 0.097% to 0.04%, with a current mortality of 1 in 14,921, making it statistically safer than abdominoplasty. Despite the evolution in our knowledge, techniques, and outcomes, it remains of utmost importance to properly select and educate patients about the safety of fat grafting for buttock augmentation. Indolent T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the gastrointestinal tract are rare clonal T-cell diseases that more commonly occur in the intestines and have a protracted clinical course. Different immunophenotypic subsets have been described, but the molecular pathogenesis and cell of origin of these lymphocytic proliferations is poorly understood. Hence, we performed targeted next-generation sequencing and comprehensive immunophenotypic analysis of ten indolent T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, which comprised CD4+ (n=4), CD8+ (n=4), CD4+/CD8+ (n=1) and CD4-/CD8- (n=1) cases. Genetic alterations, including recurrent mutations and novel rearrangements, were identified in 8/10 (80%) of these lymphoproliferative disorders. The CD4+, CD4+/CD8+, and CD4-/CD8- cases harbored frequent alterations of JAK-STAT pathway genes (5/6, 82%); STAT3 mutations (n=3), SOCS1 deletion (n=1) and STAT3-JAK2 rearrangement (n=1), and 4/6 (67%) had concomitant mutations in epigenetic modifier genes (TET2, DNMT3A, KMT2D). Conversely, 2/4 (50%) of the CD8+ cases exhibited structural alterations involving the 3' untranslated region of the IL2 gene. Longitudinal genetic analysis revealed stable mutational profiles in 4/5 (80%) cases and acquisition of mutations in one case was a harbinger of disease transformation. The CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ lymphoproliferative disorders displayed heterogeneous Th1 (T-bet+), Th2 (GATA3+) or hybrid Th1/Th2 (T-bet+/GATA3+) profiles, while the majority of CD8+ disorders and the CD4-/CD8- disease showed a type-2 polarized (GATA3+) effector T-cell (Tc2) phenotype. Additionally, CD103 expression was noted in 2/4 CD8+ cases. Our findings provide insights into the pathogenetic bases of indolent T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and confirm the heterogeneous nature of these diseases. Detection of shared and distinct genetic alterations of the JAK-STAT pathway in certain immunophenotypic subsets warrants further mechanistic studies to determine whether therapeutic targeting of this signaling cascade is efficacious for a proportion of patients with these recalcitrant diseases.

Plasma cell neoplasms (PCNs), comprising plasma cell myelomas (PCMs) and plasmacytomas, which occur after solid organ transplantation, represent rare subtypes of monomorphic post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (M-PTLDs). Data regarding the clinical and pathological features of post-transplant (PT)-PCMs are limited. To gain a better understanding of disease biology, we performed comprehensive immunophenotypic analysis, reviewed cytogenetic analysis results and evaluated clinical outcomes of PT-PCMs diagnosed and treated at our institution. Fifteen PT-PCM (M: F - 4:1) and two PT-MGUS (two males) cases were identified. The median age of PT-PCM patients was 68 years (29-79 years) and PCMs presented at a median of 9.7 years (0.5-24.7 years) after transplantation. The PT-PCMs accounted for 11.6% of all M-PTLDs and the period prevalence was 9/3108 (0.29%), 3/1071 (0.28%), 2/1345 (0.15%) and 1/878 (0.11%) post kidney, heart, liver and lung transplantation. Lytic bone disease was observed in 1/11 (9%) patients. Marrow plasma cell infiltration ranged from 10%-70% (median 20%), with 10/15 (67%) and 5/15 (33%) cases manifesting immature and plasmablastic morphology. The immunophenotype of all cases and cytogenetic abnormalities, identified in 60% of cases, were similar to multiple myeloma (MM) of immunocompetent individuals. All PT-PCMs were EBER negative. Ten of 11 (91%) patients with active MM were treated, all with proteasome inhibitor-based therapy. Treatment response and 5-year overall survival (54.5%) was comparable to MM of immunocompetent individuals. However, the survival of patients with plasmablastic PCMs was inferior to those with immature PCMs. 0ur findings indicate PT-PCMs to be predominantly late onset PTLDs that have similar clinicopathologic characteristics as conventional MM.

PURPOSE: To characterize the accuracy and consistency of fluoroscope dose index reporting and report rates of occupational radiation safety hardware availability and use, trainee participation in procedures, and optional hardware availability at pilot sites for the American College of Radiology (ACR) Fluoroscopy Dose Index Registry (DIR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine institutions participated in the registry pilot, providing fluoroscopic technical and clinical practice data from 38 angiographic C-arm-type fluoroscopes. These data included measurements of the procedure table and mattress transmission factors and accuracy measurements of the reference-point air kerma (Ka,r) and air kerma-area product (PKA). The accuracy of the radiation dose indices were analyzed for variation over time by 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Sites also self-reported information on availability and use of radiation safety hardware, hardware configuration of fluoroscopes, and trainee participation in procedures. RESULTS: All Ka,r and PKA measurements were within the ±35% regulatory limit on accuracy. The mean absolute difference between correction factors for a given system in fluoroscopic and acquisition mode was 0.03 (95% confidence interval, 0.03-0.03). For the 28 fluoroscopic imaging planes that provided data for 3 time points, ANOVA yielded an F value of 0.134 with an F-critical value of 3.109 (P = .875). CONCLUSIONS: This publication provides the technical and clinical framework pertaining to the ACR Fluoroscopy DIR pilot and offers necessary context for future analysis of the clinical procedure radiation-dose data collected.

RESUMO

Pilocytic astrocytomas are the commonest childhood brain tumor. They are typically benign and usually are solitary neoplasms. To our knowledge, only one report of a pilocytic astrocytoma with leukemia has been previously issued. We herein describe the first case with documented histopathology of a 2-year-old boy who had a cerebellar pilocytic astrocytoma co-localized with an acute B-lymphoblastic leukemia. We speculate that chemotactic migration of leukemic cells to the pilocytic astrocytoma may be partly mediated through vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF receptors.

A 77-year-old white male presented to the clinic with two isolated cutaneous tumors on his forehead. A cutaneous biopsy showed a focally folliculotropic CD4 cutaneous lymphoma. The tumors were irradiated with a complete response, and he was started on oral bexarotene. He experienced localized cutaneous relapse 3 months into treatment. These new tumors now revealed a surprisingly CD8 cytotoxic phenotype, but with the same clone. A systemic workup was negative. His regimen was switched to romidepsin, and he was treated with local radiation again. Another 3.5 months passed in remission until he developed widespread cutaneous tumors. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed multifocal systemic disease involving his diaphragm, liver, distal duodenum, proximal jejunum, anterior chest wall including pectoral muscles, and lungs without significant adenopathy. He died a few days later. Given his full clinical and pathological course, he was given the diagnosis of an aggressive primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, unspecified.

BACKGROUND: There are limited data on the histopathology of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs) diagnosed in irradiated populations. We evaluated the associations between iodine-131 dose and the histopathological characteristics of post-Chernobyl PTCs, the changes in these characteristics over time, and their associations with selected somatic mutations. METHODS: This study included 115 PTCs diagnosed in a Ukrainian-American cohort (n=13,243) during prescreening and four successive thyroid screenings. Of these PTCs, 65 were subjected to somatic mutation profiling. All individuals were <18 years at the time of the Chernobyl accident and had direct thyroid radioactivity measurements. Statistical analyses included multivariate linear and logistic regression. RESULTS: We identified a borderline significant linear-quadratic association (P=0.063) between iodine-131 dose and overall tumour invasiveness (presence of extrathyroidal extension, lymphatic/vascular invasion, and regional or distant metastases). Irrespective of dose, tumours with chromosomal rearrangements were more likely to have lymphatic/vascular invasion than tumours without chromosomal rearrangements (P=0.020) or tumours with BRAF or RAS point mutations (P=0.008). Controlling for age, there were significant time trends in decreasing tumour size (P<0.001), the extent of lymphatic/vascular invasion (P=0.005), and overall invasiveness (P=0.026). CONCLUSIONS: We determined that the invasive properties of PTCs that develop in iodine-131-exposed children may be associated with radiation dose. In addition, based on a subset of cases, tumours with chromosomal rearrangements appear to have a more invasive phenotype. The increase in small, less invasive PTCs over time is a consequence of repeated screening examinations.

BACKGROUND: In their previous analysis of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs) from an Ukrainian-American cohort that was exposed to iodine-131 ((131) I) from the Chernobyl accident, the authors identified RET/PTC rearrangements and other driver mutations in 60% of tumors. METHODS: In this study, the remaining mutation-negative tumors from that cohort were analyzed using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction to identify novel chromosomal rearrangements and to characterize their relation with radiation dose. RESULTS: The ETS variant gene 6 (ETV6)-neurotrophin receptor 3 (NTRK3) rearrangement (ETV6-NTRK3) was identified by RNA-Seq in a tumor from a patient who received a high (131) I dose. Overall, the rearrangement was detected in 9 of 62 (14.5%) post-Chernobyl PTCs and in 3 of 151 (2%) sporadic PTCs (P = .019). The most common fusion type was between exon 4 of ETV6 and exon 14 of NTRK3. The prevalence of ETV6-NTRK3 rearrangement in post-Chernobyl PTCs was associated with increasing (131) I dose, albeit at borderline significance (P = .126). The group of rearrangement-positive PTCs (ETV6-NTRK3, RET/PTC, PAX8-PPARγ) was associated with significantly higher dose response compared with the group of PTCs with point mutations (BRAF, RAS; P < .001). In vitro exposure of human thyroid cells to 1 gray of (131) I and γ-radiation resulted in the formation of ETV6-NTRK3 rearrangement at a rate of 7.9 × 10(-6) cells and 3.0 × 10(-6) cells, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The authors report the occurrence of ETV6-NTRK3 rearrangements in thyroid cancer and demonstrate that this rearrangement is significantly more common in tumors associated with exposure to (131) I and has a borderline significant dose response. Moreover, ETV6-NTRK3 rearrangement can be directly induced in thyroid cells by ionizing radiation in vitro and, thus, may represent a novel mechanism of radiation-induced carcinogenesis.

Seemingly precognitive (prophetic) dreams may be a result of one's unconscious processing of environmental cues and having an implicit inference based on these cues manifest itself in one's dreams. We present two studies exploring this implicit processing hypothesis of precognitive dream experience. Study 1 investigated the relationship between implicit learning, transliminality, and precognitive dream belief and experience. Participants completed the Serial Reaction Time task and several questionnaires. We predicted a positive relationship between the variables. With the exception of relationships between transliminality and precognitive dream belief and experience, this prediction was not supported. Study 2 tested the hypothesis that differences in the ability to notice subtle cues explicitly might account for precognitive dream beliefs and experiences. Participants completed a modified version of the flicker paradigm. We predicted a negative relationship between the ability to explicitly detect changes and precognitive dream variables. This relationship was not found. There was also no relationship between precognitive dream belief and experience and implicit change detection.
