RESUMO

The historic and ongoing evolution of the practice, technology, terminology, and implementation of programs related to quality in the medical radiological professions has given rise to the interchangeable use of the terms Quality Management (QM), Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC) in the vernacular. This White Paper aims to provide clarification of QM, QA, and QC in medical physics context and guidance on how to use these terms appropriately in American College of Radiology (ACR) Practice Parameters and Technical Standards, generalizable to other guidance initiatives. The clarification of these nuanced terms in the radiology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine environments will not only boost the comprehensibility and usability of the Medical Physics Technical Standards and Practice Parameters, but also provide clarity and a foundation for ACR's clinical, physician-led Practice Parameters, which also use these important terms for monitoring equipment performance for safety and quality. Further, this will support the ongoing development of the professional practice of clinical medical physics by providing a common framework that distinguishes the various types of responsibilities borne by medical physicists and others in the medical radiological environment. Examples are provided of how QM, QA, and QC may be applied in the context of ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards.

BACKGROUND: This study presents a new extraction fraction (EF) model based on physiological measures of invasive coronary flow reserve (CFR) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and normal index microcirculatory resistance (IMR). To ascertain the clinical relevance of the new EFs, flow measurements using the newly patient-determined EFs were compared to flow measurements using traditional animal-determined EFs. METHODS: 39 patients were retrospectively selected that included a total of 91 vascular territories with invasive coronary angiography physiological measures. [N-13]-ammonia dynamic rest/adenosine-stress PET imaging was conducted in all patients and absolute myocardial flow was estimated using four published compartmental models. The extraction fraction during hyperemic flow was iteratively estimated by maximizing the agreement between invasive CFR and FFR with the non-invasive analogs myocardial flow reserve (MFR) and relative flow reserve (RFR) at similar physiological states, respectively. RESULTS: Using the new patient-determined EFs, agreement between CFR vs MFR for Model 1 and 2 was moderate and poor for Model 3 and 4. All models showed moderate agreement for FFR vs RFR. When using published models of animal-determined EFs, agreement between CFR vs MFR remained moderate for Model 1 and 2, and poor for Model 3 and 4. Similarly, all models showed moderate agreement for FFR vs RFR using animal-determined EF values. None of the observed differences were statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Flow measurements using extraction fraction correction for [N-13]-ammonia based on calibration to invasive intracoronary angiography physiological measures in patients with CAD were not discordant from those reported in the literature. Either patient-determined or traditional animal-determined EF correction, when used with the appropriate flow model, yields moderate agreement with invasive measurements of coronary flow reserve and fractional flow reserve.

BACKGROUND: Psychological stress is a risk factor for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in individuals with coronary artery disease. Certain brain regions that control both emotional states and cardiac physiology may be involved in this relationship. The rostromedial prefrontal cortex (rmPFC) is an important brain region that processes stress and regulates immune and autonomic functions. Changes in rmPFC activity with emotional stress (reactivity) may be informative of future risk for MACE. METHODS: Participants with stable coronary artery disease underwent acute mental stress testing using a series of standardized speech/arithmetic stressors and simultaneous brain imaging with high-resolution positron emission tomography brain imaging. We defined high rmPFC activation as a difference between stress and control scans greater than the median value for the entire cohort. Interleukin-6 levels 90 minutes after stress, and high-frequency heart rate variability during stress were also assessed. We defined MACE as a composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, unstable angina with revascularization, and heart failure hospitalization. RESULTS: We studied 148 subjects (69% male) with mean±SD age of 62±8 years. After adjustment for baseline demographics, risk factors, and baseline levels of interleukin-6 and high-frequency heart rate variability, higher rmPFC stress reactivity was independently associated with higher interleukin-6 and lower high-frequency heart rate variability with stress. During a median follow-up of 3 years, 34 subjects (21.3%) experienced a MACE. Each increase of 1 SD in rmPFC activation with mental stress was associated with a 21% increase risk of MACE (hazard ratio, 1.21 [95% CI, 1.08-1.37]). Stress-induced interleukin-6 and high-frequency heart rate variability explained 15.5% and 32.5% of the relationship between rmPFC reactivity and MACE, respectively. Addition of rmPFC reactivity to conventional risk factors improved risk reclassification for MACE prediction, and C-statistic improved from 0.71 to 0.76 (P=0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Greater rmPFC stress reactivity is associated with incident MACE. Immune and autonomic responses to mental stress may play a contributory role.

OBJECTIVE: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disabling condition affecting a large segment of the population; however, current treatment options have limitations. New interventions that target the neurobiological alterations underlying symptoms of PTSD could be highly beneficial. Transcutaneous cervical (neck) vagal nerve stimulation (tcVNS) has the potential to represent such an intervention. The goal of this study was to determine the effects of tcVNS on neural responses to reminders of traumatic stress in PTSD. METHODS: Twenty-two participants were randomized to receive either sham (n = 11) or active (n = 11) tcVNS stimulation in conjunction with exposure to neutral and personalized traumatic stress scripts with high-resolution positron emission tomography scanning with radiolabeled water for brain blood flow measurements. RESULTS: Compared with sham, tcVNS increased brain activations during trauma scripts (p < .005) within the bilateral frontal and temporal lobes, left hippocampus, posterior cingulate, and anterior cingulate (dorsal and pregenual), and right postcentral gyrus. Greater deactivations (p < .005) with tcVNS were observed within the bilateral frontal and parietal lobes and left thalamus. Compared with tcVNS, sham elicited greater activations (p < .005) in the bilateral frontal lobe, left precentral gyrus, precuneus, and thalamus, and right temporal and parietal lobes, hippocampus, insula, and posterior cingulate. Greater (p < .005) deactivations were observed with sham in the right temporal lobe, posterior cingulate, hippocampus, left anterior cingulate, and bilateral cerebellum. CONCLUSIONS: tcVNS increased anterior cingulate and hippocampus activation during trauma scripts, potentially indicating a reversal of neurobiological changes with PTSD consistent with improved autonomic control.Trial Registration: No. NCT02992899.

Inflammation has been linked to the development of nonmotor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD), which greatly impact patients' quality of life and can often precede motor symptoms. Suitable animal models are critical for our understanding of the mechanisms underlying disease and the associated prodromal disturbances. The neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-treated monkey model is commonly seen as a "gold standard" model that closely mimics the clinical motor symptoms and the nigrostriatal dopaminergic loss of PD, however MPTP toxicity extends to other nondopaminergic regions. Yet, there are limited reports monitoring the MPTP-induced progressive central and peripheral inflammation as well as other nonmotor symptoms such as gastrointestinal function and microbiota. We report 5 cases of progressive parkinsonism in non-human primates to gain a broader understanding of MPTP-induced central and peripheral inflammatory dysfunction to understand the potential role of inflammation in prodromal/pre-motor features of PD-like degeneration. We measured inflammatory proteins in plasma and CSF and performed [18F]FEPPA PET scans to evaluate translocator proteins (TSPO) or microglial activation. Monkeys were also evaluated for working memory and executive function using various behavior tasks and for gastrointestinal hyperpermeability and microbiota composition. Additionally, monkeys were treated with a novel TNF inhibitor XPro1595 (10 mg/kg, n = 3) or vehicle (n = 2) every three days starting 11 weeks after the initiation of MPTP to determine whether XPro1595 would alter inflammation and microglial behavior in a progressive model of PD. The case studies revealed that earlier and robust [18F]FEPPA PET signals resulted in earlier and more severe parkinsonism, which was seen in male cases compared to female cases. Potential other sex differences were observed in circulating inflammation, microbiota diversity and their metabolites. Additional studies with larger group sizes of both sexes would enable confirmation and extension of these findings. If these findings reflect potential differences in humans, these sex differences have significant implications for therapeutic development of inflammatory targets in the clinic.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between waist circumference as a measure of abdominal obesity and brain responses to stress among patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: Patients with CAD (N = 151) underwent acute mental stress tasks in conjunction with high-resolution positron emission tomography and radiolabeled water imaging of the brain. Brain responses to mental stress were correlated with waist circumference. RESULTS: Waist circumference was positively correlated with increased activation in the right and left frontal lobes (ß values ranging from 2.81 to 3.75 in the paracentral, medial, and superior gyri), left temporal lobe, left hippocampal, left amygdala, left uncus, and left anterior and posterior cingulate gyri (ß values ranging from 2.93 to 3.55). Waist circumference was also negatively associated with the left and right parietal lobes, right superior temporal gyrus, and right insula and precuneus (ß values ranging from 2.82 to 5.20). CONCLUSION: Increased brain activation in the brain regions involved in the stress response and autonomic regulation of the cardiovascular system during psychological stress may underlie stress-induced overeating and abdominal obesity in patients with CAD.

OBJECTIVE: It is unclear whether mental stress-induced myocardial ischemia (MSIMI) is related to obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). We examined this question and contrasted results with ischemia induced by conventional stress testing (CSIMI). Because women are more susceptible to ischemia without coronary obstruction than men, we examined sex differences. METHODS: We studied 276 patients 61 years and younger with recent myocardial infarction. CAD severity was quantified using the log-transformed Gensini Score (lnGS) and the Sullivan Stenosis Score. Patients underwent myocardial perfusion imaging with mental stress (public speaking) and conventional (exercise or pharmacological) stress testing. MSIMI and CSIMI were defined as a new or worsening perfusion defect. RESULTS: The prevalence of MSIMI was 15% in men and 20% in women. The median GS for patients with MSIMI was 65.0 in men and 28.5 in women. In logistic regression models adjusted for demographic and cardiovascular risk factors, CAD severity was associated with CSIMI in the full sample (odds ratio [OR] = 1.49, 95% [CI], 1.14-1.95, per 1-unit increase in lnGS), with no significant difference by sex. Although CAD severity was not associated with MSIMI in the entire sample, results differed by sex. CAD severity was associated with MSIMI among men (OR = 1.95, 95% CI, 1.13-3.36, per 1-unit increase in lnGS), but not among women (OR = 1.02, 95% CI, 0.74-1.42, p = .042 for interaction). Analysis using Sullivan Stenosis Score yielded similar results. CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that CAD severity is related to MSIMI in men but not women. MSIMI in women may therefore be driven by alternative mechanisms such as coronary microvascular disease.

PURPOSE: We prospectively evaluated the amino acid analogue positron emission tomography radiotracer anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC compared to ProstaScint® ((111)In-capromab pendetide) single photon emission computerized tomography-computerized tomography to detect recurrent prostate carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 93 patients met study inclusion criteria who underwent anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC positron emission tomography-computerized tomography plus (111)In-capromab pendetide single photon emission computerized tomography-computerized tomography for suspected recurrent prostate carcinoma within 90 days. Reference standards were applied by a multidisciplinary board. We calculated diagnostic performance for detecting disease. RESULTS: In the 91 of 93 patients with sufficient data for a consensus on the presence or absence of prostate/bed disease anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC had 90.2% sensitivity, 40.0% specificity, 73.6% accuracy, 75.3% positive predictive value and 66.7% negative predictive value compared to (111)In-capromab pendetide with 67.2%, 56.7%, 63.7%, 75.9% and 45.9%, respectively. In the 70 of 93 patients with a consensus on the presence or absence of extraprostatic disease anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC had 55.0% sensitivity, 96.7% specificity, 72.9% accuracy, 95.7% positive predictive value and 61.7% negative predictive value compared to (111)In-capromab pendetide with 10.0%, 86.7%, 42.9%, 50.0% and 41.9%, respectively. Of 77 index lesions used to prove positivity histological proof was obtained in 74 (96.1%). Anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC identified 14 more positive prostate bed recurrences (55 vs 41) and 18 more patients with extraprostatic involvement (22 vs 4). Anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC positron emission tomography-computerized tomography correctly up-staged 18 of 70 cases (25.7%) in which there was a consensus on the presence or absence of extraprostatic involvement. CONCLUSIONS: Better diagnostic performance was noted for anti-3-[(18)F]FACBC positron emission tomography-computerized tomography than for (111)In-capromab pendetide single photon emission computerized tomography-computerized tomography for prostate carcinoma recurrence. The former method detected significantly more prostatic and extraprostatic disease.

OBJECTIVES: Emotional stress may disproportionally affect young women with ischemic heart disease. We sought to examine whether mental stress-induced myocardial ischemia (MSIMI), but not exercise-induced ischemia, is more common in young women with previous myocardial infarction (MI) than in men. METHODS: We studied 98 post-MI patients (49 women and 49 men) aged 38 to 60 years. Women and men were matched for age, MI type, and months since MI. Patients underwent technetium-99m sestamibi perfusion imaging at rest, after mental stress, and after exercise/pharmacological stress. Perfusion defect scores were obtained with observer-independent software. A summed difference score (SDS), the difference between stress and rest scores, was used to quantify ischemia under both stress conditions. RESULTS: Women 50 years or younger, but not older women, showed a more adverse psychosocial profile than did age-matched men but did not differ for conventional risk factors and tended to have less angiographic coronary artery disease. Compared with age-matched men, women 50 years or younger exhibited a higher SDS with mental stress (3.1 versus 1.5, p = .029) and had twice the rate of MSIMI (SDS ≥ 3; 52% versus 25%), whereas ischemia with physical stress did not differ (36% versus 25%). In older patients, there were no sex differences in MSIMI. The higher prevalence of MSIMI in young women persisted when adjusting for sociodemographic and life-style factors, coronary artery disease severity, and depression. CONCLUSIONS: MSIMI post-MI is more common in women 50 years or younger compared with age-matched men. These sex differences are not observed in post-MI patients who are older than 50 years.

PURPOSE: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been a commonly used imaging modality in broad clinical applications. One of the most important tradeoffs in PET imaging is between image quality and radiation dose: high image quality comes with high radiation exposure. Improving image quality is desirable for all clinical applications while minimizing radiation exposure is needed to reduce risk to patients. METHODS: We introduce PET Consistency Model (PET-CM), an efficient diffusion-based method for generating high-quality full-dose PET images from low-dose PET images. It employs a two-step process, adding Gaussian noise to full-dose PET images in the forward diffusion, and then denoising them using a PET Shifted-window Vision Transformer (PET-VIT) network in the reverse diffusion. The PET-VIT network learns a consistency function that enables direct denoising of Gaussian noise into clean full-dose PET images. PET-CM achieves state-of-the-art image quality while requiring significantly less computation time than other methods. Evaluation with normalized mean absolute error (NMAE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), multi-scale structure similarity index (SSIM), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and clinical evaluation including Human Ranking Score (HRS) and Standardized Uptake Value (SUV) Error analysis shows its superiority in synthesizing full-dose PET images from low-dose inputs. RESULTS: In experiments comparing eighth-dose to full-dose images, PET-CM demonstrated impressive performance with NMAE of 1.278 ± 0.122%, PSNR of 33.783 ± 0.824 dB, SSIM of 0.964 ± 0.009, NCC of 0.968 ± 0.011, HRS of 4.543, and SUV Error of 0.255 ± 0.318%, with an average generation time of 62 s per patient. This is a significant improvement compared to the state-of-the-art diffusion-based model with PET-CM reaching this result 12× faster. Similarly, in the quarter-dose to full-dose image experiments, PET-CM delivered competitive outcomes, achieving an NMAE of 0.973 ± 0.066%, PSNR of 36.172 ± 0.801 dB, SSIM of 0.984 ± 0.004, NCC of 0.990 ± 0.005, HRS of 4.428, and SUV Error of 0.151 ± 0.192% using the same generation process, which underlining its high quantitative and clinical precision in both denoising scenario. CONCLUSIONS: We propose PET-CM, the first efficient diffusion-model-based method, for estimating full-dose PET images from low-dose images. PET-CM provides comparable quality to the state-of-the-art diffusion model with higher efficiency. By utilizing this approach, it becomes possible to maintain high-quality PET images suitable for clinical use while mitigating the risks associated with radiation. Stress affects brain serotonin (5HT) and dopamine (DA) function, and the effectiveness of 5HT and DA to regulate stress and emotional responses. However, our understanding of the long-term impact of early life adversity (ELA) on primate brain monoaminergic systems during adolescence is scarce and inconsistent. Filling this gap in the literature is critical, given that the emergence of psychopathology during adolescence has been related to deficits in these systems. Here, we use a translational nonhuman primate (NHP) model of ELA (infant maltreatment by the mother) to examine the long-term impact of ELA on adolescent 5HT1A, 5HT2A and D2 receptor systems. These receptor systems were chosen based on their involvement in stress/emotional control, as well as reward and reinforcement. Rates of maternal abuse, rejection, and infant's vocalizations were obtained during the first three postnatal months, and hair cortisol concentrations obtained at 6 months postnatal were examined as early predictors of binding potential (BP) values obtained during adolescence using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Maltreated animals demonstrated significantly lower 5HT1A receptor BP in prefrontal cortical areas as well as the amygdala and hippocampus, and lower 5HT2A receptor BP in striatal and prefrontal cortical areas. Maltreated animals also demonstrated significantly lower D2 BP in the amygdala. None of the behavioral and neuroendocrine measurements obtained early in life predicted any changes in BP data. Our findings suggest that early caregiving experiences regulate the development of brain 5HT and DA systems in primates, resulting in long-term effects evident during adolescence.

OBJECTIVE: Certain brain activation responses to psychological stress are associated with worse outcomes in CVD patients. We hypothesized that elevated acute psychological stress, manifesting as greater activity within neural centers for emotional regulation, mobilizes CPC from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood and predicts future cardiovascular events. METHODS: In 427 patients with stable CAD undergoing a laboratory-based mental stress (MS) test, CPCs were enumerated using flow cytometry as CD34-expressing mononuclear cells (CD34+) before and 45 min after stress. Changes in brain regional blood flow with MS were measured using high resolution-positron emission tomography (HR-PET). Association between the change in CPC with MS and the risk of cardiovascular death or myocardial infarction (MI) during a 5-year follow-up period was analyzed. RESULTS: MS increased CPC counts by a mean of 150 [630] cells/mL (15%), P < 0.001. Greater limbic lobe activity, indicative of activation of emotion-regulating centers, was associated with greater CPC mobilization (P < 0.005). Using Fine and Gray models after adjustment for demographioc, clinical risk factors and medications use, greater CPC mobilization was associated with a higher adjusted risk of adverse events; a rise of 1000 cells/mL was associated with a 50% higher risk of cardiovascular death/MI [hazards ratio, 1.5, 95% confidence interval, 1.1-2.2). CONCLUSION: Greater limbic lobe activity, brain areas involved in emotional regulation, is associated with MS-induced CPC mobilization. This mobilization isindependently associated with cardiovascular events. These findings provide novel insights into mechanisms through which psychological stressors modulate cardiovascular risk.

BACKGROUND: Deficits in serotonergic neurotransmission have been implicated in the pathogenesis of depression and suicidality. The present study utilized a novel positron-emission tomography (PET) ligand to quantitate and compare brain regional serotonin transporter (SERT) binding potential in depressed patients with a past history of suicide attempts to that of healthy comparison subjects. METHOD: We used [(11) C]-ZIENT PET to label SERT in the serotonergic cell body rich brainstem, and forebrain projection fields. Quantitative PET emission data from 21 adults (10 healthy controls and 11 drug-free patients with major depression) was used for group comparison. SERT binding potential (BPND ) in eight MRI-based brain regions of interest (ROI) were compared in high-resolution PET images. RESULTS: SERT binding potential was significantly decreased in the midbrain/pons (P = .029) and putamen (P = .04) of depressed patients with a past suicide attempt relative to comparison subjects. Forebrain SERT binding was also reduced in the patient sample, though these region effects did not survive a multiple comparison correction. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that decreased availability of the brainstem and basal ganglia SERT represents a biomarker of depression and thus confirm and extend the role of dysregulation of brain serotonergic neurotransmission in the pathophysiology of depression and suicide.

5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT2A) receptors play an important role in several psychiatric disorders. In order to investigate the serotonin (5-HT) receptor in vivo, reliable syntheses are required for positron emission tomography (PET) 5-HT radioligands. Owing to the excellent in vivo properties of [18F]MDL100907 for PET, there has been great interest to develop a novel synthetic route for [18F]MDL100907. Here, we report a highly efficient, scalable, and expedient synthesis for [18F]MDL100907. The radiofluorination was performed on a 18F-labeling boron pinacol ester precursor, which is synthesized using the Liebeskind-Srogl cross-coupling reaction as a key step. Our method is practically more suitable to employ late-stage Cu-mediated radiofluorination and facilitate the production of the [18F]MDL100907 radioligand in excellent decay-corrected RCY of 32 ± 10% (n = 7) within 60 min. We prepared [18F]MDL100907 in high molar activity (2.1 Ci/µmol) and compared it to [11C]MDL100907 in the brain of a nonhuman primate.

This study aimed to develop a measure of longitudinal, radial, and circumferential myocardial strain at rest and regadenoson during pharmacologic stress using 82Rb PET electrocardiography-gated myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Methods: We retrospectively identified 80 patients who underwent rest and regadenoson-stress CT attenuation-corrected 82Rb PET and had a standard resting transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) with global longitudinal strain (GLS) analysis within 3 mo. A method was developed to compute longitudinal, radial, and circumferential strain from PET MPI at stress and rest. PET MPI-derived strain and left ventricular function were compared with resting TTE measures as the clinical reference standard. Interobserver agreement of PET MPI strain and left ventricular ejection fraction processing was reported. Results: Longitudinal strain assessed with resting TTE GLS showed good correlation with PET MPI at stress (r = 0.68, P < 0.001) and rest (r = 0.58, P < 0.001). Resting TTE GLS also correlated with PET MPI radial strain at stress (r = -0.70, P < 0.001) and rest (r = -0.59, P < 0.001) and circumferential strain at stress (r = 0.67, P < 0.001) and rest (r = 0.69, P < 0.001). The left ventricular ejection fraction showed good correlation between resting TTE and PET MPI at stress (r = 0.83, P < 0.001) and rest (r = 0.80, P < 0.001). Bland-Altman analysis indicated positive bias of TTE GLS compared with PET MPI longitudinal strain at stress (mean difference = 5.1%, 95% CI = [-2.5, 12.7]) and rest (mean difference = 4.2%, 95% CI = [-4.3, 12.8]). Reproducibility of PET MPI longitudinal strain showed good agreement at stress (concordance correlation coefficient = 0.73, P < 0.001) and rest (concordance correlation coefficient = 0.74, P < 0.001), with Bland-Altman analysis showing a small bias in the longitudinal direction at stress (mean difference = -0.2%) and rest (mean difference = -1.0%). Conclusion: Strain measured with PET MPI using an automated technique correlated well with resting GLS strain obtained by TTE, and the measure is reproducible. Strain from PET MPI should be investigated further to establish reference ranges and assess its value in routine clinical practice.

Objective: Childhood sexual abuse is the leading cause of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in women, and is a prominent cause of morbidity and loss of function for which limited treatments are available. Understanding the neurobiology of treatment response is important for developing new treatments. The purpose of this study was to assess neural correlates of personalized traumatic memories in women with childhood sexual abuse with and without PTSD, and to assess response to treatment. Methods: Women with childhood sexual abuse with (N = 28) and without (N = 17) PTSD underwent brain imaging with High-Resolution Positron Emission Tomography scanning with radiolabeled water for brain blood flow measurements during exposure to personalized traumatic scripts and memory encoding tasks. Women with PTSD were randomized to paroxetine or placebo followed by three months of double-blind treatment and repeat imaging with the same protocol. Results: Women with PTSD showed decreases in areas involved in the Default Mode Network (DMN), a network of brain areas usually active when the brain is at rest, hippocampus and visual processing areas with exposure to traumatic scripts at baseline while women without PTSD showed increased activation in superior frontal gyrus and other areas (p < 0.005). Treatment of women with PTSD with paroxetine resulted in increased anterior cingulate activation and brain areas involved in the DMN and visual processing with scripts compared to placebo (p < 0.005). Conclusion: PTSD related to childhood sexual abuse in women is associated with alterations in brain areas involved in memory and the stress response and treatment with paroxetine results in modulation of these areas.
