INTRODUCTION: The Activity Diversity Questionnaire consists of 20 items that assess activity diversity using Shannon's entropy. Comparing the relationship between health outcomes and activity diversity is important for older adults. There is no scale in Turkish that can be used to evaluate the activity diversity. The aim of this study is to investigate the relevance of the Activity Diversity Questionnaire for Turkish older adults and the effectiveness of its clinical use. METHODS: 220 older adults were included in the study. In order to determine the reliability of the Activity Diversity Questionnaire, internal consistency and test-retest analyzes were applied. Similar scale validity and confirmatory factor analysis were used to determine its validity. RESULTS: The Turkish version of the Activity Diversity Questionnaire showed high levels of internal consistency and test-retest reliability (Cronbach α = 0.868, ICC = 0.93). Statistically positive, moderate (r = 0.47, p < .001) and strong (r = 0.71, p < .001) correlations were found between the Activity Diversity Questionnaire and the Barthel Activities of Daily Living Index and the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale, respectively. As a result of Confirmatory Factor Analysis, it was found that the fit index values found acceptable fit compared to the reference values. CONCLUSIONS: The Turkish version of the Activity Diversity Questionnaire has appropriate psychometric properties, including validity and reliability.

OBJECTIVES: Few studies have focused on the participation of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in daily routine and leisure activities. This study aimed to compare the participation, support and barriers for children with ADHD at home pre-COVID-19 and during the COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS: The study included 55 children with ADHD aged 6-11 years. Participation frequency, involvement, desire for change, supports and barriers at home were assessed using the Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (PEM-CY). RESULTS: During the COVID-19 pandemic compared with the pre-COVID-19 period, the mean frequency of participation of children with ADHD in computer and video games (5.8% vs 5%, respectively), socialising with other people (7% vs 6.2%) and household chores (5.5% vs 4.6%) was shown to be significantly higher (p < 0.05). Mothers of children with ADHD reported higher levels of involvement during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with the pre-COVID-19 period across four areas of home participation, including computer and video games (4.1% vs 3.2%, respectively), arts, crafts, music and hobbies (3.7% vs 3%), household chores (3.6% vs 2.8%) and personal care management (4.2% vs 3.5%) p < 0.05). Mothers of children with ADHD reported that during the pandemic the following two features of the environment made participation easier than pre-COVID-19 (p < 0.05): cognitive demands (36.4% vs 60%, respectively) and social demands (5.5% vs 34.5%). More mothers reported that services (92.7%), supplies (87.3%) and information (85.5%) were available and/or adequate in the COVID-19 period than pre-COVID-19 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Mothers of children with ADHD reported that their children were participating more frequently in some of the home-related activities during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to pre-COVID-19. Reduced cognitive and social demands, and more readily available resources in the home environment during the COVID-19 period resulted in increased home participation compared to pre-COVID-19.

This study aimed to investigate the different effects of fatigue and health-related quality of life in the Turkish mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through comparisons with mothers of typically developing children, and to evaluate the relationship between different aspects of maternal fatigue, depression, and maternal health-related quality of life. The study included a total of 103 mothers, comprising 60 mothers of children with ASD and 43 mothers of typically developing children. The Nottingham Health Profile and Quality of Life in Autism Questionnaire-Parent Version were used to assess the health-related quality of life. Fatigue was assessed comprehensively with the Fatigue Impact Scale and the Fatigue Severity Scale. The Nottingham Health Profile total and physical mobility domain and the quality of life were the strongest factors, explaining with a variance of 66.7% the fatigue impact on cognitive function. The mothers' quality of life accounted for 64.8% of the variance in factors that explained fatigue. Physical mobility, social isolation and quality of life were associated with the physical impact of fatigue and were explained with a variance of 52.4%. Emotional reactions and quality of life were explained with a variance of 52.7% in the fatigue of psychosocial function. The current study has highlighted that the fatigue of Turkish mothers of children with ASD has a greater impact on cognitive, physical and psychosocial functions. Furthermore, the quality of life, physical mobility, social isolation, and emotional reactions of mothers have a significant impact on maternal fatigue.

The aim of this study was to compare the impact of 8-weeks of power exercises compared to traditional strength exercises on motor abilities, muscle performance, and functional strength in children with ADHD. A total of 34 children with ADHD were randomized into two groups to receive functional power training (n = 17, M age: 121.2 ± 16.6 months) and traditional strength training (n = 17, M age: 116.1 ± 13.4 months). After the 8-week intervention, two-way ANOVA results with 95% confidence intervals showed no differences between the groups in motor skills, muscle power, or functional muscle strength. However, the functional power training group had larger effect sizes and greater increases in total motor composite score (10% vs 7%), body coordination (13.8% vs 4.9%) and bilateral coordination (38.8% vs 27.9%) than the traditional strength training group. The power training group also exhibited catch-up growth with typically developing peers. These findings suggest that power exercises may be more effective than strength exercises for rapid force generation in daily life, particularly for children with ADHD.

The JHand is an easy-to-understand questionnaire that includes questions that exclude hand dominance. It was developed to evaluate patients with hand and elbow disorders. However, JHand has not been translated and validated in the Turkish language. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychometric properties of the culturally adapted Turkish version of the JHand for Turkish patients. A total of 262 patients were included in the study. JHand, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Questionnaire, and Hand20 were used to evaluate patients. Internal consistency and test-retest analyses were applied to determine the reliability of the Turkish version of the JHand. Confirmatory factor analysis and similar scale validity were used to determine its validity. The Turkish version of the JHand showed high levels of internal consistency and excellent test-retest reliability (Cronbach α = 0.907, ICC = 0.923). The model fit indices of the Turkish version of the JHand had good and acceptable fit with reference values. Statistically positive and very strong correlations were found between JHand and DASH (r = .825, p < .001) as well as the JHand and Hand20 (r = .846, p < .001). The Turkish version of the JHand had excellent internal consistency and test-retest reliability as well as a high level of validity.

BACKGROUND: Physiotherapy and rehabilitation students need to be aware of the global COVID-19 pandemic and choose the correct interventions. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and precautions of physiotherapy and rehabilitation students regarding COVID-19 during the global pandemic. METHODS: A total of 438 physiotherapy and rehabilitation students participated in the study. A web-based descriptive cross-sectional questionnaire was conducted using the "Google Forms" on physiotherapy and rehabilitation students in the months of February, March, and April 2021. The online questionnaire consisted of six main sections containing 130 items: (1) sociodemographic information, (2) knowledge sources and knowledge about COVID-19, (3) attitudes about COVID-19, (4) behaviors, (5) precautions, and (6) being a physiotherapy and rehabilitation student during the COVID-19 pandemic. The collected data were reported in terms of mean, standard deviation, number, frequency, and percentage values. RESULTS: The vast majority of the participants (n = 291, 66.5%) often/always accessed information about COVID-19 via social media, 397 (90.6%) of them often/always wear masks. Moreover, 419 (95.6%) of the physiotherapy students knew the symptoms of COVID-19, and 409 (93.4%) of the students have been responded "yes" to the question of whether pulmonary rehabilitation should be applied in intensive care units for COVID-19 infections. CONCLUSIONS: Physiotherapy and rehabilitation students have adequate awareness about COVID-19. In this regard, physiotherapy and rehabilitation students should be included in appropriate educational programs to protect themselves, their relatives, and patients against COVID-19, and their knowledge about the treatment methods should be increased.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of a video-assisted discharge education program on activities of daily living, functionality, and patient satisfaction following total hip replacement (THR) surgery. This study included 31 patients who were randomly divided into the physiotherapy group (n = 18), and the video-assisted discharge education (VADE) group (n = 13). Both groups received a physiotherapy program. The VADE group was also received the VADE program. Face-to-face instruction was used in all of the educational programs. There was a significant difference in favor of the VADE group in Harris Hip Score, Nottingham Extended Activities of Daily Living Scale's movement score, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference between groups on resting pain levels in the first week and on resting and activity pain levels in the third month in favor of the VADE group (p < 0.05). The results of this study demonstrated that VADE can be effective in improving patient satisfaction and functionality, reducing pain and kinesiophobia following THR.

BACKGROUND: Using objective anthropometric measurement data and anthropometric ratios, grip strength and hand functionality can be evaluated. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to obtain anthropometric measurements regarding the forearm and hand, to evaluate the hand functionality in addition to hand and finger grip strengths, and to investigate the correlation between these values. METHODS: One-hundred eight-four subjects between 18 and 25 years were included in the study. Forearm and hand anthropometric measurements and ratios were measured. Hand and lateral grip strengths were evaluated. Jebsen Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT) was used to assess hand functionality. RESULTS: A statistically weak and consistently negative correlation between the ratios of forearm length to forearm/wrist circumferences and the ratio of hand length to metacarpal head circumference and hand-lateral grip strengths was found. There was a statistically weak and consistently negative correlation between these ratios and the subtests of JTHFT. It was shown that there was a statistically weak-moderate positive correlation between the hand-lateral grip strengths and JTHFT subtests. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, when evaluating grip strength and hand functionality, forearm and hand anthropometric measurements and ratios, which could affect the results, should be considered.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the relationship between sensory processing and motor development in very preterm infants. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of motor development with sensory processing among such infants with developmental delay and those who had typical development at the ages of 8 and 12 months. METHODS: This prospective case-control study included 61 preterm infants (31 males, 30 females, mean gestational age: 29.1 weeks). The infants had a gestational age of 32 weeks or less and a current corrected age of 8 months, and they had spent at least 15 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. Motor development was assessed with the Neuro-sensory Motor Developmental Assessment (NSMDA), and sensory processing was evaluated with the Test of Sensory Functions in Infants (TSFI). RESULTS: There were very strong positive correlations between the gross and fine motor scores of the NSMDA and the TSFI`s subdomain scores and total scores (r=0.85-0.93, p < 0.001). There were also very strong negative correlations between the functional level according to the NSMDA and the subdomain scores and total scores of the TSFI (r=-0.89-0.94, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The results show that sensory processing and motor development are related parts of the development of very preterm infants. In the early rehabilitation process, therapists should comprehensively take motor and sensory development into consideration.

The purpose of this study was to determine quality of life, leisure time satisfaction, activity performance, and community participation and analyze the relationship between these determinants and community participation in both physically disabled individuals working in industrial environments and nonworking individuals who are physically disabled. Sociodemographic data was registered into a sociodemographic form. World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 was used to assess community participation. Activity performance was evaluated with Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. Leisure Satisfaction Scale was used to determine leisure time satisfaction. Short Form-36 was used for evaluating quality of life. When the participants were compared in terms of working status, a significant difference according to their WHO-DAS-II total scores were found (p < 0.05). When all participants were compared in terms of activity performance, lesisure time satisfaction, quality of life a significant differences according to their WHO-DAS-II total scores were found (p>0.05). This study shows that community participation was affected by working status, disability level, activity performance, leisure time satisfaction and quality of life. In this regard, occupational therapy and physiotherapy approaches were found necessary for developing community participation. We conclude that this study's results can be used as a guide for community participation in disabled people in community based rehabilitation politics.
