RESUMO

Among modern optical microscopy techniques, digital lensless holographic microscopy (DLHM) is one of the simplest label-free coherent imaging approaches. However, the hardware simplicity provided by the lensless configuration is often offset by the demanding computational postprocessing required to match the retrieved sample information to the user's expectations. A promising avenue to simplify this stage is the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) solutions into the DLHM workflow. The biggest challenge to do so is the preparation of an extensive and high-quality experimental dataset of curated DLHM recordings to train ML models. In this work, a diverse, open-access dataset of DLHM recordings is presented as support for future research, contributing to the data needs of the applied research community. The database comprises 11,760 experimental DLHM holograms of bio and non-bio samples with diversity on the main recording parameters of the DLHM architecture. The database is divided into two datasets of 10 independent imaged samples. The first group, named multi-wavelength dataset, includes 8160 holograms and was recorded using laser diodes emitting at 654 nm, 510 nm, and 405 nm; the second group, named single-wavelength dataset, is composed of 3600 recordings and was acquired using a 633 nm He-Ne laser. All the experimental parameters related to the dataset acquisition, preparation, and calibration are described in this paper. The advantages of this large dataset are validated by re-training an existing autofocusing model for DLHM and as the training set for a simpler architecture that achieves comparable performance, proving its feasibility for improving existing ML-based models and the development of new ones.

PURPOSE: 5-methylcytosine RNA modifications are driven by NSUN methyltransferases. Although variants in NSUN2 and NSUN3 were associated with neurodevelopmental diseases, the physiological role of NSUN6 modifications on transfer RNAs and messenger RNAs remained elusive. METHODS: We combined exome sequencing of consanguineous families with functional characterization to identify a new neurodevelopmental disorder gene. RESULTS: We identified 3 unrelated consanguineous families with deleterious homozygous variants in NSUN6. Two of these variants are predicted to be loss-of-function. One maps to the first exon and is predicted to lead to the absence of NSUN6 via nonsense-mediated decay, whereas we showed that the other maps to the last exon and encodes a protein that does not fold correctly. Likewise, we demonstrated that the missense variant identified in the third family has lost its enzymatic activity and is unable to bind the methyl donor S-adenosyl-L-methionine. The affected individuals present with developmental delay, intellectual disability, motor delay, and behavioral anomalies. Homozygous ablation of the NSUN6 ortholog in Drosophila led to locomotion and learning impairment. CONCLUSION: Our data provide evidence that biallelic pathogenic variants in NSUN6 cause one form of autosomal recessive intellectual disability, establishing another link between RNA modification and cognition.

Digital holographic microscopy (DHM) enables the three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of quantitative phase distributions from a defocused hologram. Traditional computational algorithms follow a sequential approach in which one first reconstructs the complex amplitude distribution and later applies focusing algorithms to provide an in-focus phase map. In this work, we have developed a synergistic computational framework to compensate for the linear tilt introduced in off-axis DHM systems and autofocus the defocused holograms by minimizing a cost function, providing in-focus reconstructed phase images without phase distortions. The proposed computational tool has been validated in defocused holograms of human red blood cells and three-dimensional images of dynamic sperm cells.

INTRODUCTION: Clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is associated with an increased risk of urinary tract infections (UTI), urethral trauma, urethral stenosis, hematuria, and pain. The first catheters were developed of polyvinyl carbon (PVC). Several types of catheters have been developed to reduce these complications, such as those with hydrophilic coating. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of hydrophilic coated catheters compared to uncoated catheters on the rate of UTI in patients using CIC. METHODOLOGY: A systematic literature search was performed in OVID, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and CENTRAL databases. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or randomized crossover trials comparing UTI and hematuria rates in patients using hydrophilic vs. non-hydrophilic catheters for CIC were identified. The selected trials were evaluated for risk of bias using the "Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2)." The results were expressed as a risk ratio (RR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI), under a random-effects model. Data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.4 software. RESULTS: Nine studies with a total of 525 patients in CIC were analyzed. Overall, the use of hydrophilic catheters had a lower risk of UTIs compared to uncoated catheters (RR = 0.78; 95% CI 0.62-0.97; I2 = 37%). Five of the studies include patients > 18 years, showing a reduction of UTIs with the use of hydrophilic catheters (RR = 0.83; 95% CI 0.74-0.93; I2 = 0%). There was no difference in UTI development when comparing single-use uncoated vs hydrophilic catheters. However, heterogeneity was high (RR = 0.77; 95% CI 0.59-1.00; I2 = 57%). Regarding hematuria risk reduction, we were unable to identify differences between the use of hydrophilic catheters compared to uncoated catheters (RR = 1.02; 95% CI 0.66-1.60). CONCLUSION: We found a risk reduction of UTIs associated with using hydrophilic catheters in adults, with low heterogeneity. Regarding hematuria, significant differences were not proved. We do not find a significant difference in UTI risk reduction in the pediatric population. Urethral trauma presence could not be meta-analyzed due to a lack of information reported.

PURPOSE: Depression and anxiety have been associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in several studies. In our population, the prevalence of LUTS is high, consequently, it is essential and an objective of this study, to determine the association between anxiety, depression, and LUTS in a large Hispanic population. METHODS: A sub-analysis of a cross-sectional population-based study to estimate LUTS prevalence in the Colombian population was performed (COBaLT study) (Plata et al. in Neurourol Urodyn 38:200-207, 2018). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate mental health. Logistic regression was carried out to estimate the association of depression and anxiety with different LUTS. Variables that proved statistically significant (p < 0.05) were included in a multivariate model. RESULTS: A total of 1060 individuals were assessed. The prevalence of anxiety in women and men was 17.1% and 6.7%, respectively. Depression in women and men was 20.1% and 9.4%, respectively. An association was found between anxiety and overactive bladder (OAB) without urinary incontinence (OR = 3.7) and moderate or severe LUTS in men (OR = 3.8). In women, anxiety was associated with nocturia (OR = 4.2) and stress urinary incontinence (OR = 2.4). For depression, an association was found between sexual dysfunction (OR = 4.3) and moderate or severe LUTS (OR = 4.0) in men; while in women it was associated with stress urinary incontinence (OR = 2.3), the sensation of incomplete emptying (OR = 1.7) and decreased frequency of sexual activity (OR = 1.8). CONCLUSIONS: The associations found are consistent with other reports. It is essential to inquire about possible symptoms related to the mental sphere in the urology consultation to make appropriate referrals and subsequent management.

In Leishmania mexicana, the protease gp63 has been documented as the protein responsible for cyclooxygenase (COX) activity. The present work aimed to obtain a monoclonal antibody capable of recognizing this protein without blocking the COX-like enzymatic activity. The antibody produced by the selected hybridoma was named D12 mAb. The antigen recognized by the D12 mAb was characterized by the determination of COX activity associated with immune complexes in the presence of exogenous arachidonic acid (AA) using the commercial Activity Assay Abcam kit. LSM-SMS analysis validated the identity of the antigen associated with the D12 mAb as the L. mexicana protease gp63. Confocal microscopy assays with the D12 mAb detected, by cross-recognition, similar proteins in other protozoan parasites. COX-like molecules are located in vesicular structures, homogeneously distributed throughout the cytoplasm in amastigotes (intracellular infectious phase) and promastigotes of L. mexicana, and trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica, Acanthamoeba castellanii, and Naegleria fowleri. However, in Giardia duodenalis trophozoites, the distribution of the COX-like molecule was also in perinuclear areas. In comparison, in Trypanosoma cruzi trypomastigotes, the distribution was mainly observed in the plasma membrane. Structural analyses of COX-2-like antigens revealed continuous and discontinuous epitopes for B cells, which could be relevant in the cross-reaction of D12 mAb with the analyzed parasites. These results indicate that the D12 mAb against the L. mexicana gp63 also recognizes a COX-like molecule in several protozoan parasites, suggesting that this D12 mAb could potentially be used in combined therapies against infectious diseases.

Interzeolite transformation has been used to produce a novel family of hierarchical catalysts featuring excellent textural properties, strong acidity, and superior catalytic performance for the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indole with benzhydrol, the Claisen-Schmidt condensation of benzaldehyde and hydroxyacetophenone, and the cracking of polystyrene. Intermediate solids of the FAU interzeolite transformation into BEA display both increased accessibility─due to the development of mesoporosity─and strong acidity─caused by the presence of ultrasmall crystals or zeolitic fragments in their structure. The use of surfactants allows for the development of the hierarchical catalysts with very narrow pore size distribution. The properties of interzeolite transformation intermediates (ITIs) can be fine-tuned simply by stopping the interconversion at different times.

A holographic point source (HPS) developed for digital lensless holographic microscopy (HPS-DLHM) is presented. The HPS is an off-axis phase transmission hologram of an experimental micrometer pinhole recorded on a photopolymer holographic film. An amplitude division interferometer, adjusted to operate at maximum diffraction efficiency, has been employed to record the hologram. The results of HPS-DLHM have been contrasted with the results obtained via conventional DLHM, and the two techniques were found to give similar measurements. Compared with conventional pinhole-based DLHM illumination, our cost-effective proposal provides increased mechanical stability, the possibility of wider spherical illumination cones, and shorter reconstruction distances. These superior features pave the way to applying this quantitative phase imaging (QPI) technique in biomedical and telemedicine applications. The imaging capabilities of our HPS-DLHM proposal have been tested by using an intricate sample of a honeybee leg, a low-absorption sample of epithelial cheek cells, a 1951 USAF test target, and smeared human erythrocytes.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the prevalence of overactive bladder determining patient-reported outcome measures (PROMS) and potential risk factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional population-based study to estimate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) prevalence in the Colombian population was performed (COBaLT study). Overactive bladder (OAB) was assessed using 2002 International Continence Society definitions and the Report on the Terminology for Female Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. PROMS were included to evaluate participant's perceptions of health-related quality of life (QoL). Spanish validated questionnaires were used, including the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder (ICIQ-OAB) and Patient Perception of Bladder Condition (PPBC) scale. RESULTS: A total of 1060 individuals were assessed. The mean age of participants was 42.2 years, and most participants were Hispanic (93.15%). The overall prevalence of OAB syndrome was 31.70%, and it was more frequently reported in women than in men (39.25% vs. 24.15%). Most participants with OAB did not perceive their symptoms as bothersome. The most bothersome symptom, associated with moderate/severe impact in QoL was urinary urgency. According to the PPBC questionnaire 75.6% of the participants reported that their bladder condition does not cause any problem, while 11.% reported moderate to severe bother. The multivariable model showed high blood pressure and anxiety were associated with OAB in men. In females, depression, obstructive sleep apnea, IBS, and pelvic organ prolapse were associated with OAB syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Using the symptomatic definition of OAB can overestimate the real impact and burden of the condition, and treatment should be targeted to those symptomatic patients with QoL impairment as they would benefit from further management. The questionnaires seem to overestimate the condition, since we assessed it from a PROMS perspective there is not such a marked QoL impact.

RESUMO

A digital lensless holographic microscope (DLHM) sensitive to the linear diattenuation produced by biological samples is reported. The insertion of a linear polarization-states generator and a linear polarization-states analyzer in a typical DLHM setup allows the proper linear diattenuation imaging of microscopic samples. The proposal has been validated for simulated and experimental biological samples containing calcium oxalate crystals extracted from agave leaves and potato starch grains. The performance of the proposed method is similar to that of a traditional polarimetric microscope to obtain linear diattenuation images of microscopic samples but with the advantages of DLHM, such as numerical refocusing, cost effectiveness, and the possibility of field-portable implementation.

The implementation of a digital holographic interferometry setup for high-speed micro-deformation measurement is presented. This proposal uses a dual-wavelength recording strategy to reconstruct micro-deformations up to 4.85 µm with no phase wrapping. The numerical processing required to recover the phase maps containing the information of micro-deformations is carried out in a general-purpose computing on graphics processing unit environment to boost its performance. The method completely processes recorded holograms of 1024×1024pixels in 48 ms, i.e., 21 frames per second (FPS) for a single-wavelength acquisition and 96 ms or 11 FPS for dual-wavelength recordings. The method is experimentally evaluated measuring deformations ranging from 0.033 µm to 4.85 µm with no need for phase unwrapping algorithms for an 8 cm diameter aluminum plate in a 110cm2 field of view.

In mammals, the daily variation in the ecology of the intestinal microbiota is tightly coupled to the circadian rhythm of the host. On the other hand, a close correlation between increased body weight and light pollution at night has been reported in humans and animal models. However, the mechanisms underlying such weight gain in response to light contamination at night remain elusive. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that dim light pollution at night alters the colonic microbiota of mice, which could correlate with weight gain in the animals. By developing an experimental protocol using a mouse model that mimics light contamination at night in urban residences (dLAN, dim light at night), we found that mice exposed to dLAN showed a significant weight gain compared with mice exposed to control standard light/dark (LD) photoperiod. To identify possible changes in the microbiota, we sampled two stages from the resting period of the circadian cycle of mice (ZT0 and ZT10) and evaluated them by high-throughput sequencing technology. Our results indicated that microbial diversity significantly differed between ZT0 and ZT10 in both LD and dLAN samples and that dLAN treatment impacted the taxonomic composition, functions, and interactions of mouse colonic microbiota. Together, these results show that bacterial taxa and microbial metabolic pathways might be involved with the mechanisms underlying weight gain in mice subjected to light contamination at night.

BACKGROUND: Female sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction (FSD/ED) have been linked with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), from both epidemiological data and basic research studies, but few studies have been conducted in Latin America addressing these issues and most of them do not include the young population. AIM: To determine the prevalence of FSD/ED and its association with LUTS in Colombia. METHODS: Sub-analysis of a cross-sectional, population-based study conducted in subjects ≥18 years old to evaluate LUTS/OAB. The estimated sample size was 1,054. ED was defined as ≤21 points in the SHIM and FSD as ≤19 in the FSFI-6. For LUTS/OAB, we used the 2002 ICS and 2010 IUGA/ICS definitions and validated questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed. OUTCOMES: Prevalence of FSD/ED and association of FSD/ED and LUTS. RESULTS: We included 1,060 participants; the median age was 40 (IQR 27-54) years. Fifty-seven (11.4%) men and 182 (32.7%) women were sexually inactive. The prevalence of FSD/ED in sexually active participants was 47% (men 52.9%, women 38.9%). The most common FSD/ED symptoms were diminished/absent lubrication in women (42%) and diminished erection maintenance after penetration in men (13%). Individuals with FSD/ED had higher rates of various LUTS. The multivariable logistic regression model found that the city of residence (OR = 0.4, 95% CI 0.2-0.9), diabetes mellitus (DM) (OR = 8.4, 95% CI 1.4-48.7), menopause (OR=3.5, 95% CI 1.9-6.2), urge urinary incontinence (UUI) (OR=1.9, 95% CI 1.1-3.3) and nocturia ≥2 (OR = 2.2, 95% CI 1.2-4.2) were associated with FSD. In men, age 40-59 (OR = 2.3, 95% CI 1.4-3.7) and ≥60 (OR = 5.5, 95% CI 2.4-12.5), the city of residence (OR = 0.2, 95% CI 0.1-0.3), less than a high-school diploma vs higher education (OR = 2.0, 95% CI 1.2-3.2), depression (OR = 4.6, 95% CI 1.8-11.5), UUI (OR = 3.2, 95% CI 1.1-10.2) and feeling of incomplete bladder emptying (OR = 2.1, 95% CI 1.3-3.5) were associated with ED. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: This study underlines the importance of assessing LUTS in women and men of all affected age groups who present with symptoms of FSD/ED and vice versa, which could help achieve a better approach for these patients. STRENGTHS & LIMITATIONS: This is the first study in Colombia and one of the few in Latin America that addresses both FSD/ED and LUTS in men and women aged 18 years and older. Limitations include being a sub-analysis of a study aiming to determine the prevalence of LUTS/OAB and not FSD/ED. INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Previous studies suggest that men with detrusor underactivity (DUA) have less symptomatic improvement after prostate surgery than those with normal contractility, but the available data is controversial. We aim to determine the differences in functional outcomes of patients with or without DUA who underwent photovaporization of the prostate (PVP) with GreenLight™180 W XPS. METHODS: A cohort of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) who underwent PVP between 2012 and 2019 was evaluated. Patients were stratified according to bladder contractility index (BCI). DUA was defined as BCI < 100. Those with normal contractility (BCI = 100-150) were included in Group 1, and those with DUA (BCI < 100) in Group 2. Primary outcomes were symptomatic improvement defined as a reduction ≥ 4 points in the international prostate symptom score (IPSS) and a reduction of at least 1 point in the quality of life (IPSS-QoL). Complications according to the Clavien-Dindo classification were also recorded. RESULTS: A total of 271 patients who underwent PVP with GreenLight™ and met the inclusion criteria were assessed. Group 1 included 158 patients, while Group 2 included 113 patients. Mean follow-up was 24 months. Patients with normal contractility had a median reduction of 11 points (18.9 ± 8.0 to 7.1 ± 7.0) while patients with DUA had a median reduction of 10 points (19.3 ± 6.9 to 8.6 ± 8.4) in IPSS score; these differences were not statistically significant (p = .20). Patients in Group 1 had a 1.92 higher chance of QoL improvement (OR, 1.92; 90% CI, 1.10-3.37), compared to those in Group 2. Failure to void after PVP was most frequently reported in DUA patients (OR, 2.36; 90% CI, 1.26-4.43). Sociodemographic characteristics, intraoperative complications, conversion rates, hospital stay, and urinary catheterization time were similar between groups. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with LUTS, regardless of their BCI, improved their symptoms after PVP according to the IPSS. However, patients with DUA were more likely not to improve their QoL after the procedure and had a higher chance of failure to void in the immediate postoperative period. An appropriate counseling process with the patient discussing possible outcomes based on these findings should be encouraged.

AIM: To determine the prevalence of nocturia and associated risk factors in the Colombian population aged ≥18 years old. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional population-based study conducted in 1060 participants in Colombia. Nocturia was assessed with the Spanish version of the ICIQ-OAB, using the ICS terminology. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate nocturia prevalence. Logistic regression analysis was carried out to determine the association of nocturia with predefined variables. RESULTS: The prevalence of nocturia was 55.9% and it was more common in women than men (53.96% vs. 46.04%; p = .004). At least three episodes of nocturia were observed in 20.37% of the participants who had a severe alteration in their quality of life (p < .01). The bivariate model showed an association between nocturia and obesity (odds ratio [OR], 1.69; 90% confidence interval [CI]: 1.22-2.34), diabetes mellitus (OR, 2.99; 90% CI: 1.86-4.83), high blood pressure (OR, 2.04; 90% CI: 1.52-2.72), cardiovascular disease (OR, 1.75; 90% CI: 1.08 - 2.83), depression (OR, 1.89; 90% CI: 1.23-2.89), obstructive sleep apnea (OR, 1.70; 90% CI: 1.17 - 2.46), and childhood enuresis (OR, 1.45; 90% CI: 1.04-2.02). The multivariate model showed an association with obesity (OR, 2.0; 95% CI: 1.14 - 3.51) in women, as well as age ≥ 65 years (OR, 3.18; 95% CI: 1.26 - 8.02) and erectile dysfunction (OR, 3.44; 95% CI: 1.21 - 9.72) in men. Childhood enuresis was significantly associated with nocturia in both genders (OR, 1.61; 95% CI: 1.09 - 2.40 in women and OR, 1.66; 95% CI: 1.09-2.52 in men). CONCLUSION: There is a significant prevalence of nocturia in our population and a clear association with impaired quality of life. We consider important to inquire about history of childhood enuresis to define the risk of presenting nocturia in adulthood. Nocturia was associated with multiple comorbidities. Obesity and erectile dysfunction play an important role as modifiable risk factor.

In this work, a numerical method to enhance the contrast of intensity hologram reconstructions of digital lensless holographic microscopy (DLHM) is presented. The method manipulates the in-line hologram and reference images through mathematical operations between them; additionally, a sharpening operation, functionalized in terms of the parameters of the recording setup, is applied to the said images. The preprocessing of the recorded images produces a modified in-line hologram and a reference wave image from which an intensity reconstruction with a 25% improvement of its contrast, with respect to the conventional reconstruction procedure, is achieved. The method is illustrated with intensity reconstructions of a hologram of a monolayer of polystyrene spheres 1.09 µm in diameter. Finally, the preprocessing method is validated with a modeled hologram, successfully applied to holograms of the section of the head a Drosophila melanogaster fly and its results are contrasted with those obtained via bright-field microscopy.

The conventional reconstruction method of off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM) relies on computational processing that involves spatial filtering of the sample spectrum and tilt compensation between the interfering waves to accurately reconstruct the phase of a biological sample. Additional computational procedures such as numerical focusing may be needed to reconstruct free-of-distortion quantitative phase images based on the optical configuration of the DHM system. Regardless of the implementation, any DHM computational processing leads to long processing times, hampering the use of DHM for video-rate renderings of dynamic biological processes. In this study, we report on a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) for robust and fast quantitative phase imaging in DHM. The reconstructed phase images provided by the GAN model present stable background levels, enhancing the visualization of the specimens for different experimental conditions in which the conventional approach often fails. The proposed learning-based method was trained and validated using human red blood cells recorded on an off-axis Mach-Zehnder DHM system. After proper training, the proposed GAN yields a computationally efficient method, reconstructing DHM images seven times faster than conventional computational approaches.

AIMS: Photovaporization of the prostate (PVP) with GreenLight Laser is a surgical treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms. It is considered safe in elderly patients with comorbidities, however, the evidence is inconclusive. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety outcomes of PVP according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASAPS). METHODS: A cohort of 675 patients who underwent PVP between 2012 and 2018 was evaluated. Patients were classified according to their ASAPS as low (I and II) and high risk (III and IV). Surgical characteristics and improvement of symptoms and Quality of Life (QoL) were evaluated. RESULTS: The median age of high-risk group was higher than low-risk group. The high-risk group had more history of anticoagulation, antiaggregation, urinary catheterization, urinary retention and urethral stricture. Longer times of hospitalization (23.7 [interquartile range {IQR} = 18.9-41.35] vs 21.8 hours [IQR = 18.7-26.6], P = .008) and catheterization (19.55 [IQR = 15.6-35.57] vs 17.67 hours [IQR = 14.76-22.5], P = .004) were found in the high-risk group. Conversion and bleeding control were not different between groups. In the follow-up, improvement of International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS) and QoL was significant in all patients when compared before and after surgery scores (P < .001). There were no difference between groups for QoL, however, IPSS was lower for the low-risk group (8 [IQR = 4-14.5] vs 5 [2-12], P = .001). CONCLUSION: PVP with GreenLight Laser is a safe and efficient procedure for all patients despite their comorbidities, with comparable middle-term outcomes which makes it a standard treatment for the entire aging population, improving their QoL.

PURPOSE: Obesity is one of the main risk factors for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and has also been associated with worse surgical outcomes. However, the literature is heterogeneous and inconclusive. The goal of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate cure rates and perioperative complications in obese women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search of OVID, MEDNAR, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and CENTRAL databases was conducted. Randomized controlled trials comparing cure rates and failure of treatment in normal and obese patients, who underwent mid-urethral sling surgery, were identified. A systematic review of subjective and objective cure rates, and complications was performed. Meta-analyses of dichotomous data under the random-effects model were applied using Review Manager 5.3. Nonrandomized comparative studies and gray literature were excluded. RESULTS: A total of 219 studies were identified. Four randomized controlled trials were included for evaluation. The risk of bias evaluation was performed according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. One study was excluded due to missing data on the outcomes. Patients were stratified according to their body mass index as obese (>30 kg/m2 ) and nonobese (<30 kg/m2 ). Complications could not be meta-analyzed. The meta-analysis of subjective (risk ratio [RR] = 1.69 [95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.32-2.16]) and objective (RR = 1.62 [95% CI: 1.26-2.07]) cure rates disfavored obese women. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis shows that obesity is a risk factor for the nonsuccessful treatment of SUI with tension-free mid-urethral sling. Differences in regards to the surgical approach and its association with obesity could not be established with the current evidence.

The description and validation of an ImageJ open-source plugin to numerically simulate and reconstruct digital lensless holographic microscopy (DLHM) holograms are presented. Two modules compose the presented plugin: the simulation module implements a discrete version of the Rayleigh-Somerfield diffraction formula, which allows the user to directly build a simulated hologram from a known phase and/or amplitude object by just introducing the geometry parameters of the simulated setup; the plugin's reconstruction module implements a discrete version of the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz diffraction integral, thus allowing the user to reconstruct DLHM holograms by introducing the parameters of the acquisition setup and the desired reconstruction distance. The plugin offers the two said modules within the robust environment provided by a complete set of built-in tools for image processing available in ImageJ. While the simulation module has been validated through the evaluation of the forecasted lateral resolution of a DLHM setup in terms of the numerical aperture, the reconstruction module is tested by means of reconstructing experimental DLHM holograms of biological samples.
