RESUMO

Ni-rich layered oxides are promising lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) cathode materials for their high reversible capacity, but they suffer from fast structural degradation during cycling. Here, we report the Ce/Gd incorporated single-crystalline LiNi0.83 Co0.07 Mn0.10 O2 (SC-NCM) cathode materials with significantly enhanced cycling stability. The Gd ions are adequately incorporated in SC-NCM while Ce ions are prone to aggregate in the outer surface, resulting in the formation of a high-entropy zone in the near-surface of SC-NCM, including a Gd doped LiCeO2 (LCGO) shell and Ce/Gd dopant-concentrated layer. The high-entropy zone can effectively inhibit the oxygen evolution and prevent the formation of oxygen vacancies. Meanwhile, it leads to a greatly improved H2-H3 phase transformation reversibility and mitigated stress/strain caused by Li-ion extraction/insertion during (de)lithiation process. The synergetic effects of reduced oxygen vacancies concentration and mitigated stress/strain can effectively prevent the in-plane migration of TM ions, lattice planar gliding as well as the formation of intragranular nanocracks. Consequently, Ce/Gd incorporated SC-NCM (SC-NCM@CG2) delivers a high initial discharge specific capacity of 219.7 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and an excellent cycling stability with a capacity retention of 90.2 % after 100 cycles at 1.0 C.

RESUMO

High-capacity Ni-rich layered oxides are promising cathode materials for fabrication of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with high energy density. However, thermal runaway of LIBs with these cathodes leads to great safety concerns. In this study, single crystalline LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2 (NCM-SC) has been prepared and a flexible optical fiber was buried inside the pouch-type LIBs with NCM-SC cathode to in situ study its real-time temperature evolution during charge/discharge process. NCM-SC exhibits an enhanced Li+ ions transportation efficiency and electrode reaction kinetics, which can effectively reduce the generation of polarization heat and mitigate the internal temperature rise of the pouch-type battery. Meanwhile, solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) film decomposition and gas accumulation are effectively alleviated, due to the enhanced thermal stability of SEI film formed on NCM-SC. Moreover, the single crystal architecture can effectively retard layered to spinal and rock-salt phase transition, mitigate the crack formation and structural collapse. Consequently, NCM-SC exhibits an excellent electrochemical performance and enhanced thermal stability.

RESUMO

Pythium soft rot is a major soilborne disease of crops such as ginger (Zingiber officinale). Our objective was to identify which Pythium species were associated with Pythium soft rot of ginger in China, where approximately 20% of global ginger production is located. Oomycetes infecting ginger rhizomes from seven provinces were investigated using two molecular markers, the internal transcribed spacer, and cytochrome c oxidase subunit II (CoxII). In total, 81 isolates were recovered; approximately 95% of the isolates were identified as Pythium myriotylum, and the other isolates were identified as either P. aphanidermatum or P. graminicola. Notably, the P. myriotylum isolates from China did not contain the single nucleotide polymorphism in the CoxII sequence found previously in the P. myriotylum isolates infecting ginger in Australia. A subset of 36 isolates was analyzed repeatedly by temperature-dependent growth, severity of disease on ginger plants, and aggressiveness of colonization on ginger rhizome sticks. In the pathogenicity assays, 32 of 36 isolates were able to significantly infect and cause severe disease symptoms on the ginger plants. A range of temperature-dependent growth, disease severity, and aggressiveness in colonization was found, with a significant moderate positive correlation between growth and aggressiveness of colonization of the ginger sticks. This study identified P. myriotylum as the major oomycete pathogen in China from infected ginger rhizomes and suggested that P. myriotylum should be a key target to control soft rot of ginger disease.

RESUMO

Photoanode material with high efficiency and stability is extensively desirable in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting for green/renewable energy source. Herein, novel heterostructures is constructed via coating rutile TiO2 nanorods with metal organic framework (MOF) materials UiO-66 or UiO-67 (UiO-66@TiO2 and UiO-67@TiO2 ), respectively. The π electrons in the MOF linkers could increase the local electronegativity near the heterojunction interface due to the conjugation effect, thereby enhancing the internal electric field (IEF) at the heterojunction interface. The IEF could drive charge transfer following Z-scheme mechanism in the prepared heterostructures, inducing photogenerated charge separation efficiency increasing as 156% and 253% for the UiO-66@TiO2 and UiO-67@TiO2 , respectively. Correspondingly, the UiO-66@TiO2 and UiO-67@TiO2 enhanced the photocurrent density as approximate two- and threefolds compared with that of pristine TiO2 for PEC water oxidation in universal pH electrolytes. This work demonstrates an effective method of regulating the IEF of heterojunction toward further improved charge separation.

RESUMO

We propose a low-asymmetry interface to improve the presence of non-head-mounted-display (non-HMD) users in shared virtual reality (VR) experiences with HMD users. The low-asymmetry interface ensures that the HMD and non-HMD users' perception of the VR environment is almost similar. That is, the point-of-view asymmetry and behavior asymmetry between HMD and non-HMD users are reduced. Our system comprises a portable mobile device as a visual display to provide a changing PoV for the non-HMD user and a walking simulator as an in-place walking detection sensor to enable the same level of realistic and unrestricted physical-walking-based locomotion for all users. Because this allows non-HMD users to experience the same level of visualization and free movement as HMD users, both of them can engage as the main actors in movement scenarios. Our user study revealed that the low-asymmetry interface enables non-HMD users to feel a presence similar to that of the HMD users when performing equivalent locomotion tasks in a virtual environment. Furthermore, our system can enable one HMD user and multiple non-HMD users to participate together in a virtual world; moreover, our experiments show that the non-HMD user satisfaction increases with the number of non-HMD participants owing to increased presence and enjoyment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Incomplete data are of particular important influence in mental measurement questionnaires. Most experts, however, mostly focus on clinical trials and cohort studies and generally pay less attention to this deficiency. We aim is to compare the accuracy of four common methods for handling items missing from different psychology questionnaires according to the items non-response rates. METHOD: All data were drawn from the previous studies including the self-acceptance scale (SAQ), the activities of daily living scale (ADL) and self-esteem scale (RSES). SAQ and ADL dataset, simulation group, were used to compare and assess the ability of four imputation methods which are direct deletion, mode imputation, Hot-deck (HD) imputation and multiple imputation (MI) by absolute deviation, the root mean square error and average relative error in missing proportions of 5, 10, 15 and 20%. RSES dataset, validation group, was used to test the application of imputation methods. All analyses were finished by SAS 9.4. RESULTS: The biases obtained by MI are the smallest under various missing proportions. HD imputation approach performed the lowest absolute deviation of standard deviation values. But they got the similar results and the performances of them are obviously better than direct deletion and mode imputation. In a real world situation, the respondents' average score in complete data set was 28.22 ± 4.63, which are not much different from imputed datasets. The direction of the influence of the five factors on self-esteem was consistent, although there were some differences in the size and range of OR values in logistic regression model. CONCLUSION: MI shows the best performance while it demands slightly more data analytic capacity and skills of programming. And HD could be considered to impute missing values in psychological investigation when MI cannot be performed due to limited circumstances.

RESUMO

Root knot nematodes (RKN, Meloidogyne spp.) are serious pathogens of numerous crops worldwide. Understanding the roles plant rhizosphere soil microbiome play during RKN infection is very important. The current study aims at investigating the impacts of soil microbiome on the activity of RKN. In this study, the 16S rRNA genes of the bacterial communities from nematode-infested and non-infested rhizosphere soils from four different plants were sequenced on the Illumina Hi-Seq platform. The soil microbiome effects on RKN infection were tested in a greenhouse assay. The non-infested soils had more microbial diversity than the infested soils from all plant rhizospheres, and both soil types had exclusive microbial communities. The inoculation of the microbiomes from eggplant and cucumber non-infested soils to tomato plants significantly alleviated the RKN infection, while the microbiome from infested soil showed increased the RKN infection. Furthermore, bacteria Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus sp. were screened out from non-infested eggplant soil and exhibited biocontrol activity to RKN on tomato. Our findings suggest that microbes may regulate RKN infection in plants and are involved in biocontrol of RKN.

RESUMO

Both seed size and abiotic stress tolerance are important agronomic traits in crops. In Arabidopsis, two closely related transcription repressors DPA4 (Development-Related PcG Target in the APEX4)/NGAL3 and SOD7 (Suppressor of da1-1)/NGAL2 (NGATHA-like protein) function redundantly to regulate seed size, which was increased in the dpa4 sod7 double mutants. Whereas ABA-induced transcription repressors (AITRs) are involved in the regulation of ABA signaling and abiotic stress tolerance, Arabidopsis aitr2 aitr5 aitr6 (aitr256) triple mutant showed enhanced tolerance to drought and salt. Here we performed CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to disrupt DPA4 and SOD7 in aitr256 mutant, trying to integrate seed size and abiotic stress tolerance traits in Arabidopsis, and also to examine whether DPA4 and SOD7 may regulate other aspects of plant growth and development. Indeed, seed size was increased in the dpa4 sod7 aitr256 quintuple mutants, and enhanced tolerance to drought was observed in the mutants. In addition, we found that shoot branching was affected in the dpa4 sod7 aitr256 mutants. The mutant plants failed to produce secondary branches, and flowers/siliques were distributed irregularly on the main stems of the plants. Floral organ number and fertility were also affected in the dpa4 sod7 aitr256 mutant plants. To examine if these phenotypes were dependent on loss-of-function of AITRs, dpa4 sod7 double mutants were generated in Col wild type background, and we found that the dpa4 sod7 mutant plants showed a phenotype similar to the dpa4 sod7 aitr256 quintuple mutants. Taken together, our results indicate that the integration of seed size and abiotic stress tolerance traits by CRISPR/Cas9 editing was successful, and our results also revealed a role of DPA4 and SOD7 in the regulation of inflorescence architecture in Arabidopsis.

RESUMO

The Crinkler (CRN) effector family is produced by oomycete pathogens and may manipulate host physiological and biochemical events inside host cells. Here, PsCRN161 was identified from Phytophthora sojae based on its broad and strong cell death suppression activities. The effector protein contains two predicted nuclear localization signals and localized to nuclei of plant cells, indicating that it may target plant nuclei to modify host cell physiology and function. The chimeric gene GFP:PsCRN161 driven by the Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter was introduced into Nicotiana benthamiana. The four independent PsCRN161-transgenic lines exhibited increased resistance to two oomycete pathogens (P. parasitica and P. capsici) and showed enhanced tolerance to salinity and drought stresses. Digital gene expression profiling analysis showed that defense-related genes, including ABC transporters, Cyt P450 and receptor-like kinases (RLKs), were significantly up-regulated in PsCRN161-transgenic plants compared with GFP (green fluorescent protein) lines, implying that PsCRN161 expression may protect plants from biotic and abiotic stresses by up-regulation of many defense-related genes. The results reveal previously unknown functions of the oomycete effectors, suggesting that the pathogen effectors could be directly used as functional genes for plant molecular breeding for enhancement of tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

RESUMO

Thermal characteristics are essential for improving the performance and monitoring the status of Li-ion batteries (LIBs). However, it is a challenge to design efficient and facile sensing materials for the detection of the in situ temperature of a working LIB. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescence optical fiber is developed and real-time temperature monitoring is performed with a measurement accuracy of 0.12 °C, and the feasibility based on this polymer optical fiber composed of NaLaTi2O6:Yb/Er phosphors is verified in a pouch-type battery. During the charging and discharging cycles, the in situ temperature is instantaneously conveyed, revealing the internal situation of LIBs. This article further dwells on the thermal characteristics in constant current (CC)/constant voltage charging and CC discharging processes at different C-rates and the battery failure when operated at low temperatures (0 °C). This work demonstrates an innovative strategy for operando solitary temperature monitoring conducted by ratiometric fluorescence optical fiber.

RESUMO

Solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) are promising energy conversion devices capable of efficiently transforming CO2 into CO, reducing CO2 emissions, and alleviating the greenhouse effect. However, the development of a suitable cathode material remains a critical challenge. Here a new SOEC cathode is reported for CO2 electrolysis consisting of high-entropy Pr0.8 Sr1.2 (CuFe)0.4 Mo0.2 Mn0.2 Nb0.2 O4-δ (HE-PSCFMMN) layered perovskite uniformly coated with in situ exsolved core-shell structured CuFe alloy@FeOx (CFA@FeO) nanoparticles. Single cells with the HE-PSCFMMN-CFA@FeO cathode exhibit a consistently high current density of 1.95 A cm-2 for CO2 reduction at 1.5 V while maintaining excellent stability for up to 200 h under 0.75 A cm-2 at 800 °C in pure CO2 . In situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that the exsolution of CFA@FeO nanoparticles introduces additional oxygen vacancies within HE-PSCFMMN substrate, acting as active reaction sites. More importantly, the abundant oxygen vacancies in FeOx shell, in contrast to conventional in situ exsolved nanoparticles, enable the extension of the triple-phase boundary (TPB), thereby enhancing the kinetics of CO2 adsorption, dissociation, and reduction.

RESUMO

Exopolysaccharide (EPS-09) from L. plantarum WLPL09 was systemically investigated for the antitumor effect in B16F10 melanoma bearing mice model. The results showed that administraion of EPS-09 (200 mg/kg) could sigificantly inhibit the tumor growth of melanoma bearing mice, with a inhibition rate of 42.53 %. Meanwhile, compared to the Model group, high dose of EPS-09 (200 mg/kg) administraion could increase the spleen index (P = 0.10), promote the splenic lymphocytes proliferation under the stimulation of ConA and LPS with a proliferation rate of 120.58 % and 169.88 %, respectively, enhance the amount of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (P < 0.0001, P = 0.0149) in tumor tissue, as well as the serum content of cytokines, i.e., TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-2 (P < 0.05) and IL-6 (P = 0.039) of B16F10 melanoma bearing mice. The transcriptional level analysis revealed that EPS-09 (200 mg/kg) administraion could sigificantly (P < 0.05) upregulate the transcription of apoptosis raleted genes, i.e., P53, Caspase-3 and Caspase-9, and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, downregulate the transcription of angiogenesis markers, i.e., Vegf and Fgf2 compared with Model group. Furthermore, administration of EPS-09 could increase the abundance of phylum Firmicutes, family Ruminococcaceae and Lachnospiraceae, and genus Ruminococcus, but reduce the abundance of genus Prevotella, Akkermansia and Oscillospira. Taken together, these results indicate that administration of EPS-09 can induce apoptosis of tumor cell, inhibit tumor angiogenesis, improve the immunity, regulate the intestinal microbiota composition of B16F10 melanoma bearing mice, and play positive roles in the antitumor activity against melanoma.

RESUMO

Rapid capacity fading, interfacial instability, and thermal runaway due to oxygen loss are critical obstacles hindering the practical application and commercialization of Ni-rich cathodes (LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2, NCM811). Herein, a Sn4+/F- codoping and LiF-coated Ni-rich cathode, denoted as NCM811-SF, is structurally fabricated that demonstrates very high cyclic and thermal stabilities. The introduction of Sn4+ regulates the local electronic structure and facilitates the conversion of the layered structure into a spinel phase; F- captures lithium impurities to form LiF coatings and forms TM-F bonds to reduce Ni/Li disordering. The compositionally complex codoping strategy reduces the internal structure strain, inhibits the Li+/Ni2+ intermixing during cycling and degradation of the nanoscale structure, and further improves the thermal stability and the crystal structure. The cathodic electrode showed a little volume shift at 2.8-4.5 V, which significantly decreased lattice flaws and fractures generated by local strain, based on detailed analyses performed using COMSOL simulations, X-ray diffraction, and scanning transmission electron microscopy. Benefiting from this, after 300 cycles, our as-prepared NCM811-SF cathode maintains 85.4% of its initial capacity at 4.5 V and has an excellent reversible capacity equal to 169 mAh·g-1 at 1 C. In addition, the NCM811-SF/graphite cell in a pouch-type complete cell retained 94.8% of its starting capacity following 500 cycles. These findings underscore the effectiveness of introducing the Sn-O and TM-F bonds in improving the durability and electrochemical efficiency of the cathode material, which makes it a good choice for high-efficiency Li-ion batteries.

RESUMO

The garnet-type solid electrolyte Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO) was modified with a cationic surfactant Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB) to improve the dispersion of LLZTO inorganic particles in Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) electrolyte (PEO-LLZTO@CTAB) by a liquid phase casting method. During fabrication, the cationic modifier CTAB is uniformly adsorbed on the surface of LLZTO particles, which can effectively reduce their surface energy and lead to a thin CTAB surface coating layer. This fabricated PEO-LLZTO@CTAB can avoid the aggregation of LLZTO particles in the composite solid-state electrolyte (CSSE) and improve the interfacial contact at the PEO/LLZTO interface, thus reducing the overall resistance of PEO-LLZTO@CTAB/Li half-cell and inhibiting the dendrite growth during cycling. The all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) with LiFePO4 (LFP) as the cathode, PEO-LLZTO@CTAB as the electrolyte and Li as the anode exhibit a high initial discharge capacity of 146.6 mAh-g-1, excellent rate performance and high-capacity retention of 91.0 % after 300 cycles at 0.2 C multiplier and 60 °C within the voltage range of 2.7-4.0 V.

RESUMO

Injectable hydrogel is of interesting for wound healing due to it can be used as carriers of bioactive molecules for the reparation of tissues with minimal invasiveness. However, the integration of lipid-soluble substances into hydrogel network is difficult because of the polarity differences. Here, the tea tree oil (TTO) is encapsulated into the hydrogel network via a previous emulsification process, and a tough and antibacterial injectable hydrogel is synthesized by the Schiff base reaction between carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) and genipin (GP). CMCS is served as both an emulsifier and a gel-forming material to construct the heterogeneous hydrogel. The obtained hydrogels present high adhesive strength (∼162.75 kPa), great antibacterial properties (over 90 %) and excellent biocompatibility. Moreover, an anal fistula-like wound healing experiment concluded that the heterogeneous hydrogel has good slow-release properties of TTO for an accelerate healing process, this hydrogel shows great potential for the treatment of complex anal fistula wounds.

RESUMO

Potassium ion batteries (PIBs) have great potential to replace lithium ion batteries (LIBs) for large-scale energy storage applications because of the low cost and earth abundance of potassium resources. However, it is critically challenging to exploit an appropriate cathode material to accommodate the large size of K+. Herein, a conducting polymer (PEDOT) intercalation method is utilized to tailor the interlayer spacing of NH4V3O8 nanobelts from 7.8 Å to 10.8 Å, and afford rich oxygen vacancies inside the vanadate, thus enhancing its electronic conductivity and accelerating the K+ insertion/extraction kinetics. Benefiting from these features, PEDOT-intercalated NH4V3O8 (PNVO) nanobelts deliver an improved capacity of 87 mA h g-1 at 20 mA g-1, high rate capability of 51 mA h g-1 at 500 mA g-1, and a stable cycle life (capacity retention of 92.5 % after 100 cycles at 50 mA g-1). Even cycled at 200 mA g-1, PNVO nanobelts feature a long cycle life over 300 cycles with a capacity retention of 71.7 %. This work is of great significance for exploitation of PIBs cathode with improved electrochemical performance through pre-intercalation and defect engineering.

RESUMO

Zwitterionic polymers have attracted considerable attention because of their anti-adsorption and unique anti-polyelectrolyte effects and was widely used in surface modification. In this study, zwitterionic copolymers (poly (sulfobetaine methacrylate-co-butyl acrylate) (pSB) coating on the surface of a hydroxylated titanium sheet using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) was successfully constructed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Water contact angle (WCA) analysis proved the successful preparation of the coating. The swelling effect caused by the anti-polyelectrolyte effect was reflected in the simulation experiment in vitro, and this coating can promote the proliferation and osteogenesis of MC3T3-E1. Therefore, this study provides a new strategy for designing multifunctional biomaterials for implant surface modifications.

RESUMO

Plant chitinases (EC 3.2.1.14) are pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins and are well studied in many plant species. However, little is known about the genomic organization and expression of chitinase genes in strawberries (Fragaria vesca). Here, 23 FvChi genes were identified in the genome of strawberry (F. vesca) and divided into GH18 and GH19 subfamilies based on phylogenetic relationships. A detailed bioinformatics analysis of the FvChi genes was performed, including gene physicochemical properties, chromosomal location, exon-intron distribution, domain arrangement, and subcellular localization. Twenty-two FvChi genes showed upregulation after Colletotrichum gloeosporioides infection. Following the exogenous application of SA, FvChi-3, 4, and 5 showed significant changes in expression. The ectopic expression of FvChi-14 in Arabidopsis thaliana increased resistance to C. higginsianum via controlling the SA and JA signaling pathway genes (AtPR1, AtICS1, AtPDF1.2, and AtLOX3). The FvChi-14 protein location was predicted in the cell wall or extracellular matrix. We speculate that FvChi-14 is involved in disease resistance by regulating the SA and JA signaling pathways. The findings of this study provide a theoretical reference for the functional studies of FvChi genes and new candidates for strawberry stress resistance breeding programs.

RESUMO

Pickering emulsions are attracting increased attention owing to their therapeutic applications. However, the slow-release property of Pickering emulsions and the in vivo solid particle accumulation caused by the solid particle stabilizer film limit their applications in therapeutic delivery. In this study, drug-loaded, acid-sensitive Pickering emulsions were prepared using acetal-modified starch-based nanoparticles as stabilizers. The acetalized starch-based nanoparticles (Ace-SNPs) not only act as a solid-particle emulsifier to stabilize Pickering emulsions but also exhibit acid sensitivity and degradability, conducive to the destabilization of Pickering emulsions to release the drug and reduce the effect of particle accumulation in an acidic therapeutic environment. In vitro drug release profiles show that 50 % of curcumin was released in 12 h in an acidic medium (pH 5.4), whereas only 14 % of curcumin was released in 12 h at higher pH (7.4), indicating that the Ace-SNP stabilized Pickering emulsion possess good acid-responsive release characteristics in acidic environments. Moreover, acetalized starch-based nanoparticles and their degradation products showed good biocompatibility, and the resulting curcumin-loaded Pickering emulsions exhibited significant anticancer activity. These features suggest that the acetalized starch-based nanoparticle-stabilized Pickering emulsion has the potential for application as an antitumor drug carrier to enhance therapeutic effects.
