RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of the micro-lecture education on the ability of self-management and lifestyle changes in patients with coronary artery disease. DESIGN: A randomized control trial with a 12-week follow-up. SETTING: Cardiology wards of a large Chinese University Hospital. SUBJECTS: One hundred eligible inpatients with coronary artery disease were recruited. INTERVENTION: Intervention group received the micro-lecture education, while the control group received the traditional cardiac rehabilitation education. MAIN MEASURES: Primary outcome of the ability of coronary self-management was assessed by the Coronary self-management scaleat baseline, 12-week after discharge. Secondary outcomes of smoking status, exercise status, and six-minute walk distance were evaluated at the baseline, week4 and week 12 after discharge. The chi-square test,Fisher's exact test, group t-test and the repeated measure variance were used for the data analysis. RESULTS: Eighty-nine of 100 eligible participants responded, and mean age was 60.2 ± 11.3 years. After the intervention, the mean score of the coronary self-management scale (3.84 ± 0.36) was higher than that in the control group (2.78 ± 0.57).At week 12, the rate of re-smoked in the intervention group (6%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (43%),the frequency of the exercise (85%), and the 6MWD (495.55 ± 85.94) in the intervention group were better than the control group. CONCLUSION: Micro-lecture education program presented a positive effect on promoting the ability of self-management, and apotential effect on the therapeutic lifestyle changes for the coronary artery disease patients.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has produced a far-reaching influence on higher education and the teaching activities of teachers in Chinese universities. The intentions of teachers in universities for using the micro-lecture, one of the educational informationization products, and the influencing factors of the intentions for using micro-lectures, are changing in the post COVID-19 era. This paper, based on the Technical Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), constructed the research hypotheses for the influence factors of micro-lecture usage intentions of teachers in universities in the post COVID-19 era, and made corresponding verifications through the Structural Equation Model (SEM). As shown by the results therefrom: (1) the micro-lecture usage experience before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected the usage intentions of teachers in universities; (2) the perceived usefulness influenced the usage intention directly, but the perceived ease of use did not directly produce influence; (3) policy impact had no significant influence on the perceived usefulness and the perceived ease of use of university teachers for micro-lecture use; (4) social relations and personal innovativeness have significant impacts on perceived usefulness, teaching objectives and micro-lecture characteristics have significant impacts on the perceived ease of use. In this paper, suggestions and opinions on popularizing micro-lecture usage in the post COVID-19 era were put forward on the basis of research conclusions therein.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Providing high-quality training to residency students during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been a goal of our institution. Since 2108, we began to take microlectures to students teaching. Microlectures are online presentations, and the microlecture teaching method has many advantages, such as a short teaching time, situational resource composition, diverse communication, strong pertinence and can attend microlectures from home. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the advantages of the microlecture teaching method on students in standardized residency training. METHODS: Students from our department were randomly divided into the traditional teaching group (control group) and the microlecture teaching group (observation group). The teaching duration for both groups was 3 months. All students were assessed on basic knowledge of the neurology before enrollment. After the teaching session, the students were assessed on teaching effect, theoretical operation, and clinical practice satisfaction. The students also evaluated the teachers, and the teachers evaluated the students. RESULTS: A total of 84 students participated in the study and were divided equally into the observation group (42 students) and the control group (42 students). The results showed that the rate of reaching the standard of teaching effect, achievement of theory and operation, satisfaction with clinical practice, the student's grades by teachers, and student satisfaction with teachers were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The microlecture teaching method can effectively improve the clinical teaching effect for neurology students and should be adopted in clinical teaching, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMO

Efficient and effective instructional materials designed for asynchronous learning are increasingly important in health professions curricula. Video microlectures are an effective instructional method, but many faculty lack training in applying best-practice multimedia principles to development of their own recorded microlectures. Here we report a rubric designed for use in a peer-review process to evaluate and improve microlectures. The one-page rubric provides a framework for application of multimedia principles and cognitive load theory to microlecture design. Quality improvement of microlectures following redesign according to rubric elements is supported by increased student viewership, which coincided with higher rubric peer review scores.

RESUMO

Biochemical Reaction Engineering is a professional discipline with emphasis on both theory and practice. It is the core course in the curriculum provision for students majoring in bioengineering and plays an important role in the cultivation of professional talents. However, there are so much theory knowledge, such as formulas and deduction, that students showed poor efficiency in their study. Herein, to cater the objective command of innovative talents under new education background, and to improve the practical teaching efficiency and the students' enthusiasm as well as the practical innovation capability, the teaching team innovated and explored the teaching pattern, the teaching method as well as the teaching technologies. The teaching efficiency has been remarkably improved by introducing the virtual simulate technology, the micro-lecture, the case teaching pattern attempts and the scientific platform, which can be used as reference by other peers.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The acting (Sub)internship (AI) provides fourth-year medical students the opportunity to gain essential clinical experience, making it challenging to develop an effective curriculum without detracting from clinical time. ACTIVITY: This flipped classroom, asynchronous learning curriculum utilized a short online video, called a micro-lecture, to teach one to two key concepts, associated with online case-based questions. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Over one academic year, 96% (64/67) of internal medicine AI students at our institution completed the online questions. The majority of students selected the single best response for both questions and preferred this online micro-lecture format over traditional methods.

RESUMO

In teaching of experiments for medical students, by using the isolation of mononuclear cells and identification of B lymphocytes, an experiment was developed that integrated biochemistry, cytology, and immunology techniques, from which the students performed a series of operations including spleen separation, isolating mononuclear cells, and identifying B lymphocytes. From the immunocytochemistry detection, we included advanced equipment-a flow cytometer-in the experiment, which detected the B lymphocytes more accurately. Moreover, we applied modern information technology to the teaching of experiments by using an internet study platform, micro-lectures, and adopting "formative teaching and evaluation." This lab practice aims to increase the ability of medical students to solve problems using flexible scientific methods, to initiate them thinking about clinical and research application.

RESUMO

Today, with the rapid development of network information technology, the micro-lecture plays a role in the teaching activities is becoming more and more important. The short and efficient teaching content of micro-lecture can be downloaded rapidly, expediently, and repeatedly, which improve the learning efficiency and independent learning capability. The clinical training of thoracic surgery elementarily remains at the scrabble stage. We require continuous reform and introduce new modes of teaching, which compatible with the development of society and the study habits of novice, to enhance the effectiveness of clinical training. In this paper, the concept, characteristic and advantage of micro-lecture was discussed, and the feasibility of application of micro-lecture in thoracic surgery teaching was also discussed. Our aim was to promote the application of micro-lecture in the clinical training of thoracic surgery reasonable and extensive.
