RESUMEN
Argumento a favor de entender la preocupación contemporánea por lo distópico como una manifestación de la pulsión de muerte. Así, planteo que la meta subyacente a las imaginaciones distópicas es un intento de representar nuestra muerte o inexistencia. Esta meta es un aspecto común a la experiencia humana, que trasciende nuestro tiempo. En tanto objeto de la pulsión, lo distópico refleja lo específico de nuestras angustias de muerte actuales. La creciente realización de nuestra futura mortalidad y la enajenación de nuestra vulnerabilidad producto del desarrollo tecnológico, nos lleva a un ominoso contacto con la muerte. Sugiero que, frente a la experiencia de lo distópico debemos recordar que como especie hemos construido diferentes escenarios de catástrofe a lo largo de los 200 mil años que somos anatómicamente modernos. Que si bien, en cada época la particularidad de la experiencia de la Caída varía, lo que no varía es el miedo a la catástrofe, a perder, estar perdiendo o haber perdido alguna estabilidad idealizada que reificamos como un Paraíso
Argument in favor of understanding the contemporary preoccupation with the dystopian as a manifestation of the death drive. Thus, I argue that the underlying goal of dystopian imaginations is an attempt to represent our death or nonexistence. This goal is a common aspect of the human experience, which transcends our time. As an object of the drive, the dystopian reflects the specificity of our current death anxieties. The growing realization of our future mortality and the alienation of our vulnerability as a result of technological development, leads us to an ominous contact with death. I suggest that, faced with the experience of the dystopian, we must remember that as a species we have constructed different scenarios of catastrophe throughout the 200 thousand years that we have been anatomically modern. That although in each epoch the particularity of the experience of the Fall varies, what does not vary is the fear of catastrophe, of losing, being losing or having lost some idealized stability that we reify as a Paradise
