RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To find out the prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder among patients seeking facial cosmetic procedures, find out association of social demographic (age, gender, occupation, marital status, friends relationship, and dating status) ampatientsient with body dysmorphic disorder. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done on a sample of 100 patients from Al-waste Hospital and Ghazy Al-Hariri Hospital for surgical specialties in Baghdad by using a body dysmorphic disorder questionnaire to diagnose a probable case and then a semi-structured questionnaire based on DSM5 criteria to diagnose body dysmorphic disorder during the period extended from beginning of January 2019 to the end of April 2019. RESULTS: Results: The chi-square test proved the association between female gender and body dysmorphic disorder is significant P=0.026. Significant associations were also noticed between single patients and body dysmorphic disorder 76.8% in comparison with married 37.8, and divorced or widowed 42.9% (P=0.001). It was found that 68.6% of unemployed patients think that they need to correct their body dysmorphic disorder so they attended the hospital while only 40% of employed persons did so P=0.008. The mean age of patients exposed to a second operation was significantly higher than the mean age of other patients P=0.022. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: High prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder among patients seeking plastic surgery which is about 60%. Body dysmorphic disorder is more common among single and unemployment and among young adults and gender female. There is no significant association between the mean age of male and female patients of body dysmorphic disorder group.

RESUMEN

COVID-19 is a new virus spreading worldwide that can cause mild to severe illness, multi-organ failure, and even death. Injectable antiviral Remdesivir is effective in treating patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19. Biomarkers linked to clinical outcomes have been found for COVID-19, although only a few antiviral therapies have been studied. This study aimed to assess how Remdesivir affects several biomarkers in patients with COVID-19 and how those changes impact the severity of the illness. According to Chinese care guidelines for COVID-19, 80 patients with COVID-19 were separated into two groups: group 1 did not receive Remdesivir (RDV) medication and Group 2 received it after 5 days. Injectable antiviral Remdesivir has recently been tested in high-risk, individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who were not hospitalized, and it successfully delayed the onset of the illness. From February 2022 to October 2023, blood samples were taken from study participants to evaluate ferritin, Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), and C-reactive protein. The results of this investigation showed that various COVID-19 severity biomarkers, including ferritin, C-reactive protein, and lactate dehydrogenase, may improve more quickly with RDV treatment. These biomarkers are linked to better clinical outcomes during infection. These discoveries enhance the understanding of the COVID-19 antiviral treatment's function. In conclusion, there is a clear association between the levels of biomarkers before and after Remdesivir treatment in COVID-19 cases ranging from moderate to severe. This suggests that the COVID-19 infection might lead to the elevation of several biomarkers.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To find an association of COVID-19 on different types of leukocytes either count increasing or decreasing. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: A cross sectional study conducted from October /2020 to January /2021. Eighty patients out of 170 were enrolled in this study, who were attended a private clinic for clinical investigation and a private laboratory for laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19 who were divided into two groups, asymptomatic or mild (group 1), and moderate or severe (group 2). Five milliliter of blood samples were collected from patients with COVD-19 by venipuncture using a syringe for evaluation of different cells. RESULTS: Results: The current study revealed a significant difference in white blood cells count, neutrophils count, monocytes count, basophils count, and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte to monocyte ratio between group 1 and group 2. While lymphocytes, and eosinophil showed no significant difference. CONCLUSION: Conclusion: The current study concluded that COVID-19 may affect the count of some leukocytes in patient with severe infection.
