RESUMEN

Background In the past decade, there has been growing interest in identifying the relationship between nutritional status and acne. Many dietary factors have been studied, including milk, fast food, and chocolate. However, nutritional anemia, which is a common problem in young individuals, has not been well investigated. Objectives The objective of this study was to determine the relationships between acne and nutritional anemia among people in the Qassim Region of Saudi Arabia. Methods This study used a case-control design. It targeted people aged from 15 to 25 years old in the Qassim Region of Saudi Arabia. This study was conducted using a database of Electronic Health Records (EHR) data from the Qassim University outpatient department (OPD). Data analysis was conducted by using SPSS (IBM Inc., Armonk, New York). Results A total of 114 of the study population were involved in this study. The acne group represented was identical to the control group. The mean age of study participants was 23.1 ± 4.19 years old, and the majority of them were females (86%). Moreover, the patient group had relatively lower levels of mean corpuscular volume (MCV), vitamin B12, ferritin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and hemoglobin than the control group without any significant correlation, whereas the patient group had higher levels of mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and red cell distribution width (RDW) without significant difference. Our results showed that the prevalence of anemia among respondents was 17.5%, and a higher prevalence of anemia was observed in the control group without significant differences. Furthermore, the patient group had a significantly higher prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency (38.6%) than the control group (p=0.041). Conclusion Our results concluded that patients with acne vulgaris in the Qassim Region of Saudi Arabia had a significantly higher rate of vitamin B12 deficiency. Additional studies are needed to confirm this association.

RESUMEN

Introduction: The approval of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines and obtaining herd immunity raise the optimism about seeing the end of this pandemic but vaccine hesitancy or refusal to vaccinate is a major threat to progress toward achieving herd immunity. In this study, we identify baseline knowledge, myths, misconceptions, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors toward the COVID-19 vaccine. This help to develop new strategies to raise awareness, correct misconceptions and improve acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine. This study aim is to evaluate the acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine among population in Qassim region of Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted among target people who were more than 11 years old in Qassim Region of Saudi Arabia using the snowball sample study. A self-administered online questionnaire was used that evaluates the knowledge and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine among this population. Results: The results show that the participants' high knowledge of COVID-19 translates into good and safe practices, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health workers worldwide should concentrate on enlightening and building faith among the unsure and reluctant population regarding security, effectiveness, and adverse effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. Conclusions: The study findings are useful to the policymakers and healthcare professionals who are working on vaccine awareness programs of COVID-19. The findings conclude that the health education interventions should be directed to population of Qassim, Saudi Arabia, at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

RESUMEN

Introduction Violence against pregnant women has become a public health issue and a violation of human rights. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines violence as any act (physical or verbal) that causes physical or psychological harm. Obstetric violence committed by healthcare providers can lead to significant health consequences harming both mother and child. During pregnancy, violence is more frequent than some obstetric complications that are routinely recorded or screened. Therefore, this study aims to assess the prevalence of violence against women during pregnancy and labor, and postpartum. Materials and methods In this cross-sectional study, our study population consisted of women who have experienced pregnancy and labor in the Najd region. We used both face-to-face and online questionnaires that evaluated the knowledge and practice outcomes of women who have experienced violence during labor, in addition to the behavior of healthcare providers toward these women. Results In our analysis of demographic data, we found a significant association between age and having experienced violence before/during birth. Most women who experienced violence were between 25 and 45 years old (p=0.002). Furthermore, the history analysis revealed a significant association between follow-up regularity and violence experiences (p=0.010). Nursing students delivered most women (71%), and they did not provide information regarding the women's rights or procedures. Of the respondents, 39.6% did not feel comfortable and were afraid of the healthcare providers' words, phrases, or behaviors. Conclusion Our study concluded that many women experience violence committed by healthcare providers before, during, and after labor without realizing it. As a result of the ignorance of their rights, violence is more prevalent among these women. As a recommendation, to expand on the rights, women organizations should dedicate more efforts and throw campaigns to raise the awareness of violence among other women.
