RESUMEN

We examined gazelle peripheral blood leucocytes using the alpha-Naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) staining technique (pH 5.8). Our purpose was to determine the percentage of ANAE positive lymphocytes. The proportion of ANAE positive T-lymphocytes was 72%. T-lymphocytes showed an ANAE positive reaction, but eosinophilic granulocytes and monocytes also showed a positive reaction. By contrast, no reaction was detected in B-lymphocytes, neutrophil granulocytes or platelets. The reaction observed in T-lymphocytes was a red-brown coloration, usually 1-2 granules, but enough granules to fill the cytoplasm were detected rarely. As a result of ANAE enzyme staining, we concluded that the staining technique can be used as a cytochemical marker for gazelle T-lymphocytes.

RESUMEN

The development of the ileal Peyer's patches (ilPP) and follicle associated epithelium (FAE) was examined in 30 bovine foetuses ranging from 73 to 271 days of gestation by light and transmission electron microscopic methods. The first primordial ilPP was encountered in the foetus at 164 days of gestation The ilPP were found to have been formed from the aggregation of lymph follicles in the foetus at 227 days of gestation whereas in the foetus at 271 days of gestation the follicular development was observed to have been completed. While the cells in the FAE in the foetus at 164 days of gestation and those older were cuboidal, those of the foetus at 271 days of gestation were columnar. As from the foetus at 227 days of gestation, however, the FAE was found to be composed of uniform lymphoepithelial cells with an increase in the number of intraepithelial leukocytes. In the early stages, whereas the apical surfaces of the FAE cells appeared shorter with microfolds, with advancing age the apical surfaces of the FAE cells were observed to be heterogeneous. Our results suggest that bovine ilPP and FAE cells are histologically and functionally mature before birth.

RESUMEN

This study was conducted to determine the staining properties, the light and electron microscopic appearance and numerical distribution of mast cells from different regions of the bovine oviduct during the estrous phase and luteal phase. Ten oviducts from bovines in the estrous phase, and 10 from bovines in the luteal phase were used as study samples. In three regions of the oviduct (infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus), mast cells that showed metachromasia with toluidin blue and Ab(+), SO(-) with the combined Ab/SO stains were encountered. Electron microscopic studies of the mast cells showed them to contain two types of granules; a dense homogeneous type and a tiny particulate type. In all three regions of the oviduct, the luteal phase was observed to have a higher number of mast cells per mm2 area than the estrual phase with the isthmus having the most dense population.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to investigate the electron microscopic structure of conjunctiva associated lymphoid tissue (CALT) and to determine the uptake of macromolecules from follicle associated epithelium (FAE) of Angora goats. The sample tissues taken from lower and upper eyelids of ten 5-6 month-old healthy Angora goats were used in this study. The conjunctiva associated lymphoid tissue of Angora goats was formed by solitary or aggregate lymphoid follicle and follicle associated epithelium which cover these follicle. FAE was formed by flattened epithelial cells, lymphocytes, monocytes and polymorph nuclear leukocytes but no goblet cells. Ferritin particles were seen on the apical surface, in the invaginations, vesicles, vacuoles of flattened epithelial cells. It was concluded that these epithelial cells were specialized to uptake macromolecules.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of peripheral blood T lymphocytes and the localization of Alpha Naphthyl Acetate Esterase (ANAE) enzyme at the electron microscopic level in healthy adult chickens by an alpha naphthyl acetate esterase procedure. Peripheral blood samples taken from 30 adult Leghorn breed chickens were used. The percentage of ANAE positive lymphocytes was 56.4 +/- 2.82% (SD). Pseudoeosinophil and eosinophil granulocytes showed a granular positivity. In the electron microscopic examination, ANAE positive reactions were seen in lysosomal granules found in T lymphocytes, pseudoeosinophil, and eosinophil granulocytes.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of peripheral blood T lymphocytes and the localization of ANAE enzyme at the electron microscopic level in Van cats by using an alpha-naphtyl acetate esterase procedure. Peripheral blood samples taken from 20 Van cats were used. The percentage of ANAE positive lymphocytes was 83.0%. Neutrophilic granulocytes gave a negative reaction, whereas monocytes, eosinophilic granulocytes showed a diffuse granular positivity. In the electron microscopic examination, ANAE positive reactions were seen in lysosomal granules found in lymphocytes.
