RESUMEN

C-type lectins (CTL) are a large group of pattern-recognition proteins and to play important roles in glycoprotein metabolism, multicellular integration, and immunity. Based on their overall domain structure, they can be classified as different groups that possess different physiological functions. A typical C-type lectin (named as OmLec1) was identified from the fish, Onychostoma macrolepis, an important cultured fish in China. Open reading frame of OmLec1 contains a 570 bp, encoding a protein of 189 amino acids that includes a signal peptide and a single carbohydrate-recognition domain. The phylogenetic analysis showed that OmLec1 could be grouped with C-type lectin from other fish. OmLec1 was expressed in all the tissues in our study, and the expression level was highest in liver. And its relative expression levels were significantly upregulated following infection with Aeromonas hydrophila. The recombinant OmLec1 protein (rOmLec1) could agglutinate some Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria in vitro in the presence of Ca2+, showing a typical Ca2+-dependent carbohydrate-binding protein. Furthermore, rOmLec1 purified from E. coli BL21 (DE3), strongly bound to LPS and PGN, as well as all tested bacteria in a Ca2+-dependent manner. These results indicate that OmLec1 plays a central role in the innate immune response and as a pattern recognition receptor that recognizes diverse pathogens among O. macrolepis.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To describe the supportive care needs of Chinese women newly diagnosed with breast cancer prior to adjuvant chemotherapy. PARTICIPANTS & SETTING: 13 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer were recruited from a public teaching hospital in northern China. METHODOLOGIC APPROACH: Semistructured interviews were conducted, and data were analyzed following a qualitative descriptive approach and qualitative content analysis. FINDINGS: The following five themes emerged. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: Nurses should focus on patients' prechemotherapy supportive care needs and comprehensively assess their specific needs and concerns related to post-surgery discomfort and chemotherapy, with considerations of the Chinese family concept, diet, and traditional culture. Targeted health information and psychological support are necessary to help patients transition to and adequately prepare for chemotherapy.

RESUMEN

The study presented a case of esophageal cancer presenting as intermittent fever with markedly elevated serum leukocyte and C-reactive protein. The patient's symptoms had not improved with antibiotic treatment. However, after thoracic esophagectomy, the fever faded and leukocyte serum levels rapidly normalized.

RESUMEN

The title compound, [Zn(C(13)H(13)N(2)O(2))(2)], contains a Zn(II) centre, located on a twofold rotation axis, that is coordinated by two O atoms and two N atoms from two salicylal Schiff base mol-ecules. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

RESUMEN

In the title compound, [Zn(C(7)H(11)O(2))(C(10)H(9)N(3))(2)]NO(3)·H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is five-coordinated by two bidentate di-2-pyridylamine ligands and one O atom from a cyclo-hexa-necarboxy-ate anion, resulting in a ZnON(4) square-based pyramidal coordination for the metal ion with the O atom in one of the basal positions. In the crystal, the components inter-act by way of O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

RESUMEN

In the title hydrated complex, [Co(C(11)H(15)N(2)OS(2))(2)]·H(2)O, the Co(II) atom (site symmetry 2) is coordinated by two O,N,N'-tridentate Schiff base ligands, resulting in a very distorted cis-CoO(2)N(4) octa-hedral geometry for the metal ion. In the crystal, the water mol-ecule (O-atom site symmetry 2) inter-acts with nearby complex mol-ecules by way of bifurcated O-H⋯(O,S) hydrogen bonds.

RESUMEN

In the title mol-ecular salt, C(7)H(10)NO(+)·C(8)H(7)O(2)S(-), the crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
