RESUMEN

Tuberculous pleural effusion poses a significant threat to human health due to its potential for severe disease and mortality. Without timely treatment, it may lead to fatal consequences. Therefore, early identification and prompt treatment are crucial for preventing problems such as chronic lung disease, respiratory failure, and death. This study proposes an enhanced differential evolution algorithm based on colony predation and dispersed foraging strategies. A series of experiments conducted on the IEEE CEC 2017 competition dataset validated the global optimization capability of the method. Additionally, a binary version of the algorithm is introduced to assess the algorithm's ability to address feature selection problems. Comprehensive comparisons of the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with 8 similar algorithms were conducted using public datasets with feature sizes ranging from 10 to 10,000. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is an effective feature selection approach. Furthermore, a predictive model for tuberculous pleural effusion is established by integrating the proposed algorithm with support vector machines. The performance of the proposed model is validated using clinical records collected from 140 tuberculous pleural effusion patients, totaling 10,780 instances. Experimental results indicate that the proposed model can identify key correlated indicators such as pleural effusion adenosine deaminase, temperature, white blood cell count, and pleural effusion color, aiding in the clinical feature analysis of tuberculous pleural effusion and providing early warning for its treatment and prediction.

RESUMEN

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are organic pollutants and manufactured substances conferring toxicity to human health. The present study investigated whether pyrene, a type of PAH, harms rats. Our research provides an effective feature selection strategy for the animal dataset from Wenzhou Medical University's Experimental Animal Center to thoroughly examine the impacts of PAH toxicity on rat features. Initially, we devised a high-performance optimization method (SCBA) and added the Sobol sequence, vertical crossover and horizontal crossover mechanisms to the bat algorithm (BA). The SCBA-KELM model, which combines SCBA with the kernel extreme learning machine model (KELM), has excellent accuracy and high stability for selecting features. Benchmark function tests are then used in this research to verify the overall optimization performance of SCBA. In this paper, the feature selection performance of SCBA-KELM is verified using various comparative experiments. According to the results, the features of the genes PXR, CAR, CYP2B1/2 and CYP1A1/2 have the most impact on rats. The SCBA-KELM model's classification performance for the gene dataset was 100%, and the model's precision value for the public dataset was around 96%, as determined by the classification index. In conclusion, the model utilized in this research is anticipated to be a reliable and valuable approach for toxicological classification and assessment.

RESUMEN

Image segmentation methods have received widespread attention in face image recognition, which can divide each pixel in the image into different regions and effectively distinguish the face region from the background for further recognition. Threshold segmentation, a common image segmentation method, suffers from the problem that the computational complexity shows exponential growth with the increase in the segmentation threshold level. Therefore, in order to improve the segmentation quality and obtain the segmentation thresholds more efficiently, a multi-threshold image segmentation framework based on a meta-heuristic optimization technique combined with Kapur's entropy is proposed in this study. A meta-heuristic optimization method based on an improved grey wolf optimizer variant is proposed to optimize the 2D Kapur's entropy of the greyscale and nonlocal mean 2D histograms generated by image computation. In order to verify the advancement of the method, experiments compared with the state-of-the-art method on IEEE CEC2020 and face image segmentation public dataset were conducted in this paper. The proposed method has achieved better results than other methods in various tests at 18 thresholds with an average feature similarity of 0.8792, an average structural similarity of 0.8532, and an average peak signal-to-noise ratio of 24.9 dB. It can be used as an effective tool for face segmentation.

RESUMEN

The evaluation of coronary morphology provides important guidance for the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). A chaotic Gaussian mutation antlion optimizer algorithm (CGALO) is proposed in the paper, and it is combined with SVM to construct a classification prediction model for Fractional flow reserve (FFR). To overcome the limitations of the original antlion optimizer (ALO) algorithm, the chaotic Gaussian mutation strategy is introduced, which leads to an improvement in its convergence speed and accuracy. To evaluate the proposed algorithm's performance, comparative experiments were conducted on 23 benchmark functions alongside 12 other cutting-edge optimization algorithms. The experimental outcomes demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves superior convergence accuracy and speed compared to the alternative comparison algorithms. Additionally, it is combined with SVM and FS to construct a hierarchical FFR classification model, which is utilized to make effective predictions for 84 patients at the affiliated hospital of medical school, Ningbo university. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves an average accuracy of 92%. Moreover, it concludes that smoking history, number of lesion vessels, lesion location, diffuse lesions and ST segment changes, and other factors are the most critical indicators for FFR. Therefore, the model that has been established is a new FFR intelligent classification prediction technology that can effectively assist doctors in making corresponding decisions and evaluation plans.

RESUMEN

Lupus Nephritis (LN) is a significant risk factor for morbidity and mortality in systemic lupus erythematosus, and nephropathology is still the gold standard for diagnosing LN. To assist pathologists in evaluating histopathological images of LN, a 2D Rényi entropy multi-threshold image segmentation method is proposed in this research to apply to LN images. This method is based on an improved Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm that introduces a Diffusion Mechanism (DM) and an Adaptive ß-Hill Climbing (AßHC) strategy called the DMCS algorithm. The DMCS algorithm is tested on 30 benchmark functions of the IEEE CEC2017 dataset. In addition, the DMCS-based multi-threshold image segmentation method is also used to segment renal pathological images. Experimental results show that adding these two strategies improves the DMCS algorithm's ability to find the optimal solution. According to the three image quality evaluation metrics: PSNR, FSIM, and SSIM, the proposed image segmentation method performs well in image segmentation experiments. Our research shows that the DMCS algorithm is a helpful image segmentation method for renal pathological images.

RESUMEN

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), instigated by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has hugely impacted global public health. To identify and intervene in critically ill patients early, this paper proposes an efficient, intelligent prediction model based on the machine learning approach, which combines the improved whale optimization algorithm (RRWOA) with the k-nearest neighbor (KNN) classifier. In order to improve the problem that WOA is prone to fall into local optimum, an improved version named RRWOA is proposed based on the random contraction strategy (RCS) and the Rosenbrock method. To verify the capability of the proposed algorithm, RRWOA is tested against nine classical metaheuristics, nine advanced metaheuristics, and seven well-known WOA variants based on 30 IEEE CEC2014 competition functions, respectively. The experimental results in mean, standard deviation, the Friedman test, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test are considered, proving that RRWOA won first place on 18, 24, and 25 test functions, respectively. In addition, a binary version of the algorithm, called BRRWOA, is developed for feature selection problems. An efficient prediction model based on BRRWOA and KNN classifier is proposed and compared with seven existing binary metaheuristics based on 15 datasets of UCI repositories. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm obtains the smallest fitness value in eleven datasets and can solve combinatorial optimization problems, indicating that it still performs well in discrete cases. More importantly, the model was compared with five other algorithms on the COVID-19 dataset. The experiment outcomes demonstrate that the model offers a scientific framework to support clinical diagnostic decision-making. Therefore, RRWOA is an effectively improved optimizer with efficient value.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The main feature selection methods include filter, wrapper-based, and embedded methods. Because of its characteristics, the wrapper method must include a swarm intelligence algorithm, and its performance in feature selection is closely related to the algorithm's quality. Therefore, it is essential to choose and design a suitable algorithm to improve the performance of the feature selection method based on the wrapper. Harris hawks optimization (HHO) is a superb optimization approach that has just been introduced. It has a high convergence rate and a powerful global search capability but it has an unsatisfactory optimization effect on high dimensional problems or complex problems. Therefore, we introduced a hierarchy to improve HHO's ability to deal with complex problems and feature selection. OBJECTIVES: To make the algorithm obtain good accuracy with fewer features and run faster in feature selection, we improved HHO and named it EHHO. On 30 UCI datasets, the improved HHO (EHHO) can achieve very high classification accuracy with less running time and fewer features. METHODS: We first conducted extensive experiments on 23 classical benchmark functions and compared EHHO with many state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms. Then we transform EHHO into binary EHHO (bEHHO) through the conversion function and verify the algorithm's ability in feature extraction on 30 UCI data sets. RESULTS: Experiments on 23 benchmark functions show that EHHO has better convergence speed and minimum convergence than other peers. At the same time, compared with HHO, EHHO can significantly improve the weakness of HHO in dealing with complex functions. Moreover, on 30 datasets in the UCI repository, the performance of bEHHO is better than other comparative optimization algorithms. CONCLUSION: Compared with the original bHHO, bEHHO can achieve excellent classification accuracy with fewer features and is also better than bHHO in running time.

RESUMEN

The effective analytical processing of pathological images is crucial in promoting the development of medical diagnostics. Based on this matter, in this research, a multi-level thresholding segmentation (MLTS) method based on modified different evolution (MDE) is proposed. The MDE is the primary benefit offered by the suggested MLTS technique, which is a novel proposed evolutionary algorithm in this article with significant convergence accuracy and the capability to leap out of the local optimum (LO). This optimizer came into being mostly as a result of the incorporation of the movement mechanisms of white holes, black holes, and wormholes into various evolutions. Thus, the developed MLTS approach may provide high-quality segmentation results and is less susceptible to segmentation process stagnation. To validate the efficacy of the presented approaches, first, the performance of MDE is validated using 30 benchmark functions, and then the proposed segmentation method is empirically compared with other comparable methods using standard pictures. On the basis of breast cancer and skin cancer pathology images, the developed segmentation method is compared to other competing methods and experimentally validated in further detail. By analyzing experimental data, the key compensations of MDE are proven, and it is experimentally shown that the unique MDE-based MLTS approach can achieve good performance in terms of many performance assessment indices. Consequently, the proposed method may offer an efficient segmentation procedure for pathological medical images.

RESUMEN

The sine cosine algorithm (SCA) was proposed for solving optimization tasks, of which the way to obtain the optimal solution is mainly through the continuous iteration of the sine and cosine update formulas. However, SCA also faces low population diversity and stagnation of locally optimal solutions. Hence, we try to eliminate these problems by proposing an enhanced version of SCA, named ESCA_PSO. ESCA_PSO is proposed based on hybrid SCA and particle swarm optimization (PSO) by incorporating multiple mutation strategies into the original SCA_PSO. To validate the effect of ESCA_PSO in handling global optimization problems, ESCA_PSO was compared with quality algorithms on various types of benchmark functions. In addition, the proposed ESCA_PSO was employed to tune the best parameters of support vector machines for dealing with medical diagnosis tasks. The results prove the efficiency of the proposed algorithms in solving optimization problems.

RESUMEN

Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is a serious complication of hemodialysis (HD), with an incidence of more than 20%. IDH induces ischemic organ damage and even reduces the ultrafiltration and duration of HD sessions. Frequent attacks of IDH are a risk factor for death in HD patients. Malnutrition is common in HD patients and is also associated with mortality. Although the link between IDH episodes and malnutrition has been observed in practice, it has not been supported by the data. To study the relationship, we propose a promising hybrid model called BSCWJAYA_KELM, which is a wrapper feature selection method based on a variant of the JAYA optimization algorithm (SCWJAYA) and Kernel extreme learning machine (KELM). In this paper, we verify the optimization capability of the SCWJAYA algorithm in the model by comparing experiments with some state-of-the-art methods for IEEE CEC2014, IEEE CEC2017, and IEEE CEC2019 benchmark functions. The prediction accuracy of BSCWJAYA_KELM is validated by the public datasets and the HD dataset. In the experiments on the HD dataset, 1940 HD sessions of 178 HD patients are analyzed by the developed BSCWJAYA_KELM model. The key indicators selected from vast amounts of data are serum uric acid, dialysis vintage, age, diastolic pressure, and albumin. The BSCWJAYA_KELM method is a stable and excellent prediction model that can achieve a more accurate prediction of IDH.

RESUMEN

This paper focuses on the study of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) X-ray image segmentation technology. We present a new multilevel image segmentation method based on the swarm intelligence algorithm (SIA) to enhance the image segmentation of COVID-19 X-rays. This paper first introduces an improved ant colony optimization algorithm, and later details the directional crossover (DX) and directional mutation (DM) strategy, XMACO. The DX strategy improves the quality of the population search, which enhances the convergence speed of the algorithm. The DM strategy increases the diversity of the population to jump out of the local optima (LO). Furthermore, we design the image segmentation model (MIS-XMACO) by incorporating two-dimensional (2D) histograms, 2D Kapur's entropy, and a nonlocal mean strategy, and we apply this model to COVID-19 X-ray image segmentation. Benchmark function experiments based on the IEEE CEC2014 and IEEE CEC2017 function sets demonstrate that XMACO has a faster convergence speed and higher convergence accuracy than competing models, and it can avoid falling into LO. Other SIAs and image segmentation models were used to ensure the validity of the experiments. The proposed MIS-XMACO model shows more stable and superior segmentation results than other models at different threshold levels by analyzing the experimental results.

RESUMEN

COVID-19 is currently raging worldwide, with more patients being diagnosed every day. It usually is diagnosed by examining pathological photographs of the patient's lungs. There is a lot of detailed and essential information on chest radiographs, but manual processing is not as efficient or accurate. As a result, how efficiently analyzing and processing chest radiography of COVID-19 patients is an important research direction to promote COVID-19 diagnosis. To improve the processing efficiency of COVID-19 chest films, a multilevel thresholding image segmentation (MTIS) method based on an enhanced multiverse optimizer (CCMVO) is proposed. CCMVO is improved from the original Multi-Verse Optimizer by introducing horizontal and vertical search mechanisms. It has a more assertive global search ability and can jump out of the local optimum in optimization. The CCMVO-based MTIS method can obtain higher quality segmentation results than HHO, SCA, and other forms and is less prone to stagnation during the segmentation process. To verify the performance of the proposed CCMVO algorithm, CCMVO is first compared with DE, MVO, and other algorithms by 30 benchmark functions; then, the proposed CCMVO is applied to image segmentation of COVID-19 chest radiography; finally, this paper verifies that the combination of MTIS and CCMVO is very successful with good segmentation results by using the Feature Similarity Index (FSIM), the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), and the Structural Similarity Index (SSIM). Therefore, this research can provide an effective segmentation method for a medical organization to process COVID-19 chest radiography and then help doctors diagnose coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19).

RESUMEN

With countless devices connected to the Internet of Things, trust mechanisms are especially important. IoT devices are more deeply embedded in the privacy of people's lives, and their security issues cannot be ignored. Smart contracts backed by blockchain technology have the potential to solve these problems. Therefore, the security of smart contracts cannot be ignored. We propose a flexible and systematic hybrid model, which we call the Serial-Parallel Convolutional Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Network Model incorporating Ensemble Classifiers (SPCBIG-EC). The model showed excellent performance benefits in smart contract vulnerability detection. In addition, we propose a serial-parallel convolution (SPCNN) suitable for our hybrid model. It can extract features from the input sequence for multivariate combinations while retaining temporal structure and location information. The Ensemble Classifier is used in the classification phase of the model to enhance its robustness. In addition, we focused on six typical smart contract vulnerabilities and constructed two datasets, CESC and UCESC, for multi-task vulnerability detection in our experiments. Numerous experiments showed that SPCBIG-EC is better than most existing methods. It is worth mentioning that SPCBIG-EC can achieve F1-scores of 96.74%, 91.62%, and 95.00% for reentrancy, timestamp dependency, and infinite loop vulnerability detection.

RESUMEN

In the context of the rapid development of blockchain technology, smart contracts have also been widely used in the Internet of Things, finance, healthcare, and other fields. There has been an explosion in the number of smart contracts, and at the same time, the security of smart contracts has received widespread attention because of the financial losses caused by smart contract vulnerabilities. Existing analysis tools can detect many smart contract security vulnerabilities, but because they rely too heavily on hard rules defined by experts when detecting smart contract vulnerabilities, the time to perform the detection increases significantly as the complexity of the smart contract increases. In the present study, we propose a novel hybrid deep learning model named CBGRU that strategically combines different word embedding (Word2Vec, FastText) with different deep learning methods (LSTM, GRU, BiLSTM, CNN, BiGRU). The model extracts features through different deep learning models and combine these features for smart contract vulnerability detection. On the currently publicly available dataset SmartBugs Dataset-Wild, we demonstrate that the CBGRU hybrid model has great smart contract vulnerability detection performance through a series of experiments. By comparing the performance of the proposed model with that of past studies, the CBGRU model has better smart contract vulnerability detection performance.

RESUMEN

Blockchain presents a chance to address the security and privacy issues of the Internet of Things; however, blockchain itself has certain security issues. How to accurately identify smart contract vulnerabilities is one of the key issues at hand. Most existing methods require large-scale data support to avoid overfitting; machine learning (ML) models trained on small-scale vulnerability data are often difficult to produce satisfactory results in smart contract vulnerability prediction. However, in the real world, collecting contractual vulnerability data requires huge human and time costs. To alleviate these problems, this paper proposed an ensemble learning (EL)-based contract vulnerability prediction method, which is based on seven different neural networks using contract vulnerability data for contract-level vulnerability detection. Seven neural network (NN) models were first pretrained using an information graph (IG) consisting of source datasets, which then were integrated into an ensemble model called Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection method based on Information Graph and Ensemble Learning (SCVDIE). The effectiveness of the SCVDIE model was verified using a target dataset composed of IG, and then its performances were compared with static tools and seven independent data-driven methods. The verification and comparison results show that the proposed SCVDIE method has higher accuracy and robustness than other data-driven methods in the target task of predicting smart contract vulnerabilities.

RESUMEN

Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is the most common acute complication in hemodialysis (HD) sessions and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in HD patients. To prevent the episode of IDH, it is critical to predict its occurrence. Chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorders (CKD-MBD) induce cardiac and vascular calcification, which impairs the compensatory mechanisms of blood pressure during HD. In this study, we proposed a feature selection framework called BSWEGWO_KELM to analyze 1940 records from 178 HD patients, which was based on an enhanced grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm and the kernel extreme learning machine (KELM). Then, global optimization experiments, together with feature selection experiments on public data sets and HD dataset, were performed to verify the effectiveness of the BSWEGWO_KELM method. The experimental results showed that the established BSWEGWO_KELM had the capability of screening out the key indicators such as dialysis vintage, mean arterial pressure (MAP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH). Consequently, BSWEGWO_KELM can be applied as a practical and accurate method to predict IDH.

RESUMEN

Because of its simplicity and effectiveness, fuzzy K-nearest neighbors (FKNN) is widely used in literature. The parameters have an essential impact on the performance of FKNN. Hence, the parameters need to be attuned to suit different problems. Also, choosing more representative features can enhance the performance of FKNN. This research proposes an improved optimization technique based on the sine cosine algorithm (LSCA), which introduces a linear population size reduction mechanism for enhancing the original algorithm's performance. Moreover, we developed an FKNN model based on the LSCA, it simultaneously performs feature selection and parameter optimization. Firstly, the search performance of LSCA is verified on the IEEE CEC2017 benchmark test function compared to the classical and improved algorithms. Secondly, the validity of the LSCA-FKNN model is verified on three medical datasets. Finally, we used the proposed LSCA-FKNN to predict lupus nephritis classes, and the model showed competitive results. The paper will be supported by an online web service for any question at https://aliasgharheidari.com.

RESUMEN

Paraquat (PQ) poisoning seriously harms the health of humanity. An effective diagnostic method for paraquat poisoned patients is a crucial concern. Nevertheless, it's difficult to identify the patients with low intake of PQ or delayed treatment. Here, a new efficient diagnostic approach to integrate machine learning and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), named GEE, is proposed to identify the PQ poisoned patients. First, GC-MS provides the original data that efficiently identified the paraquat-poisoned patients. According to the high dimensionality of the original data, in the second stage, the chaos enhanced grey wolf optimization (EGWO) is adopted to search the optimal feature sets to improve the accuracy of identification. Finally, the extreme learning machine (ELM) is used to identify the PQ poisoned patients. To efficiently evaluate the proposed method, four measures were used in our experiments and comparisons were made with six other methods. The PQ-poisoned patients and robust volunteers can be well identified by GEE and the values of AUC, accuracy, sensitivity and specificity were 95.14%, 93.89%, 94.44% and 95.83%, respectively. Our experimental results demonstrated that GEE had better performance and might serve as a novel candidate diagnosis of PQ-poisoned patients.

RESUMEN

Curcumin is an orange-yellow colored, lipophilic polyphenol substance derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa that is widely used in many countries. Curcumin has many reported functions, including antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects. Autophagy removes damaged organelles and protein aggregates in the cell. However, whether curcumin mediates its effects on neural stem cell (NSC) differentiation, cell cycle and apoptosis through autophagy is unknown. In the present study, the effects of curcumin and 3methyladenine (3MA; an autophagy inhibitor, as a positive control) on the autophagy, differentiation, cell cycle progression and apoptosis of NSCs in different culture states were examined. In order to confirm the role of autophagy in these processes of NSC behavioral change, the protein expression level changes of markers of autophagy, such as autophagyrelated protein 7 (Atg7), light chain (LC)3 and p62, were assessed. When NSCs were in an adherent state, 10 µM curcumin inhibited their differentiation into GFAP+ astrocytes or DCX+ immature neurons, while Atg7 and p62 protein expression were also reduced compared with the untreated control group. When NSCs were in a suspended state, 10 µM curcumin inhibited the cell cycle progression and apoptosis of NSCs as determined by western blotting, which was associated with a decreased autophagic flux and Atg7 expression. In addition, the curcumintreated group trended in a similar direction to the 3MAtreated group. Thus, the data suggest that curcumin can inhibit differentiation, promote cell survival and inhibit cell cycle progression from G1 to S in NSCs, and that these effects are mediated through the regulation of Atg7 and p62.

RESUMEN

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease, which has attracted more and more attention. Many artificial intelligence methods have been used for the diagnosis of PD. In this study, an enhanced fuzzy k-nearest neighbor (FKNN) method for the early detection of PD based upon vocal measurements was developed. The proposed method, an evolutionary instance-based learning approach termed CBFO-FKNN, was developed by coupling the chaotic bacterial foraging optimization with Gauss mutation (CBFO) approach with FKNN. The integration of the CBFO technique efficiently resolved the parameter tuning issues of the FKNN. The effectiveness of the proposed CBFO-FKNN was rigorously compared to those of the PD datasets in terms of classification accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve). The simulation results indicated the proposed approach outperformed the other five FKNN models based on BFO, particle swarm optimization, Genetic algorithms, fruit fly optimization, and firefly algorithm, as well as three advanced machine learning methods including support vector machine (SVM), SVM with local learning-based feature selection, and kernel extreme learning machine in a 10-fold cross-validation scheme. The method presented in this paper has a very good prospect, which will bring great convenience to the clinicians to make a better decision in the clinical diagnosis.
