BACKGROUND/PURPOSE(S): The gut microbiota and its metabolites play crucial roles in pathogenesis of arthritis, highlighting gut microbiota as a promising avenue for modulating autoimmunity. However, the characterization of the gut virome in arthritis patients, including osteoarthritis (OA) and gouty arthritis (GA), requires further investigation. METHODS: We employed virus-like particle (VLP)-based metagenomic sequencing to analyze gut viral community in 20 OA patients, 26 GA patients, and 31 healthy controls, encompassing a total of 77 fecal samples. RESULTS: Our analysis generated 6819 vOTUs, with a considerable proportion of viral genomes differing from existing catalogs. The gut virome in OA and GA patients differed significantly from healthy controls, showing variations in diversity and viral family abundances. We identified 157 OA-associated and 94 GA-associated vOTUs, achieving high accuracy in patient-control discrimination with random forest models. OA-associated viruses were predicted to infect pro-inflammatory bacteria or bacteria associated with immunoglobulin A production, while GA-associated viruses were linked to Bacteroidaceae or Lachnospiraceae phages. Furthermore, several viral functional orthologs displayed significant differences in frequency between OA-enriched and GA-enriched vOTUs, suggesting potential functional roles of these viruses. Additionally, we trained classification models based on gut viral signatures to effectively discriminate OA or GA patients from healthy controls, yielding AUC values up to 0.97, indicating the clinical utility of the gut virome in diagnosing OA or GA. CONCLUSION: Our study highlights distinctive alterations in viral diversity and taxonomy within gut virome of OA and GA patients, offering insights into arthritis etiology and potential treatment and prevention strategies.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of adalimumab (ADA) combined with Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TwHF) in the treatment of methotrexate (MTX)-inadequate response patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: In this multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled clinical trial, 64 RA patients with inadequate response to MTX were 1:1 randomly assigned into treatment or control groups. The treatment group was treated with ADA in combination with TwHF, and the control group was treated with ADA in combination with MTX for 24 weeks. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients having low disease activity (2.6 ≤ DAS28-ESR < 3.2) and remission rates (DAS28-ESR < 2.6) at week 24. RESULTS: In total, 53 of the 64 patients (82.8%) completed this 24-week clinical trial. By intent-to-treat (ITT) analysis, a comparable outcome was observed between the two groups. The percentage of patients achieving low disease activity in the treatment group and control group were 43.8% and 46.9% (95% CI, 21.28 to 27.48, p = .802). Percentage of patients achieving low disease activity rates were respectively 28.1% and 31.3% in the treatment group and control group (95% CI, 19.18 to 25.58, p = .784). In per-protocol (PP) analysis, the results were consistent with the ITT model. The incidence of adverse events was comparable between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: There were no significant differences in efficacy and safety between ADA combined with TwHF versus ADA combined with MTX in the treatment of RA. TwHF might be an alternative treatment for RA patients who are intolerant to MTX.

RATIONALE: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a serious adverse skin reaction characterized by the rapid appearance of densely distributed, small, sterile pustules with erythema. However, its pathogenesis is not fully understood. Hydroxychloroquine is widely used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Some patients presenting with AGEP have IL36RN and CARD14 gene mutations. Our report describes a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and AGEP associated with hydroxychloroquine and a newly discovered CARD14 gene mutation. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 28-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis, treated with leflunomide therapy without marked relief of joint pain, developed multiple rashes with pruritis covering the body 5 days after switching to hydroxychloroquine treatment. DIAGNOSES: Based on the patient's history, symptoms, and histopathological findings, AGEP was diagnosed. INTERVENTIONS: Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger validation revealed no mutations in the IL36RN gene; however, a CARD14 gene mutation was present. The patient was treated using ketotifen fumarate tablets, dexamethasone sodium phosphate, calcium gluconate injection, methylprednisolone injection, vitamins C and B12, hydrocortisone butyrate cream, Reed acne cream, potassium chloride tablets, and pantoprazole enteric-coated capsules. OUTCOMES: The rash improved after 15 days. LESSONS SUBSECTIONS: There has been little basic research on AGEP-related genetics, and the CARD14 mutation may underlie several pustular rashes, including AGEP and generalized pustular psoriasis. Follow-up studies and further accumulation of patient data are required.

Introduction: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare condition characterized by superficial pustules following drug ingestion or infection. Currently, there is no clear link between rheumatism and AGEP. It has been described that hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a rare cause of acute generalized epidermal necrolysis (AGEP). Presently, there are limited studies on HCQ-induced AGEP. We aimed to explore the clinical features and associated gene expression of AGEP induced after HCQ treatment exposure in rheumatology patients. Methods: We assessed patients with HCQ-induced AGEP diagnosed at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Chinese Medicine between January 1, 2017, and May 1, 2022. We also reviewed similar cases reported in specific databases. Results: The study included five females (mean age, 40.2 years), and the mean time from initiation of HCQ treatment to symptom onset was 12.2 d. All patients received steroids and allergy medications after HCQ discontinuation, and the rash completely resolved within an average of 25.2 d. We performed whole exome sequencing and Sanger validation in our patient sample. CARD14 gene mutations were detected in three patients. Additionally, seven mutation sites were detected. Discussion: HCQ-induced AGEP may have a longer latency period and regression time than AGEP induced by other drugs. Our patients all experienced CARD14 gene mutations. AGEP often resolves with topical therapy and drug discontinuation, although some cases require systemic steroid therapy. In the future, patients with rheumatism should pay attention to the effectiveness of HCQ during treatment and be aware of the associated skin toxicity.

Depression is a debilitating mental disorder that affects a large population worldwide. Depression and pain comorbidity is well recognized in both clinical and preclinical settings. Research studies suggest delta opioid receptor (DOR) may be involved in modulating pain as well as depression. DOR agonists produce antidepressant-like effects in animal models and their antihyperalgesic effects are enhanced in rats under inflammatory pain. However, it is unclear whether the antidepressant-like effects of DOR agonists may change in the models of pain. In this study, the antidepressant-like effects of a DOR agonist, SNC80, and a tricyclic antidepressant, amitriptyline, were compared following intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration in rats under normal or inflammatory pain state elicited by injection of complete Freund's adjuvant. The forced swim test was used to determine the antidepressant-like effects. Results showed that i.c.v. SNC80 and amitriptyline dose-dependently produced antidepressant-like effects in rats under normal state. The potency of SNC80-induced antidepressant-like effects, but not amitriptyline, was enhanced in rats under inflammatory pain. This study provides functional evidence of the state-dependent effects of DOR agonists and suggests that DOR agonists may be more effective as potential antidepressants for patients experiencing both depression and pain.

Jinwujiangu capsule (JWJGC) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, whether its mechanism is associated with pyroptosis remains unclear. In this study, the ability of JWJGC to inhibit the growth of fibroblast-like synoviocytes of RA (RA-FLS) through pyroptosis was evaluated. The cells isolated from patients with RA were identified by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. After RA-FLS were treated with different concentrations of JWJGC-containing serum, the cell proliferation inhibition rate, expression of caspase-1/3/4/5, NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), gasdermin-D (GSDMD), and apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC), concentrations of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and interleukin-18 (IL-18), the activity of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), and pyroptosis were evaluated. The results showed that JWJGC increased the proliferative inhibition rate, decreased the expression of caspase-1/3/4/5, GSDMD, NLRP3, and ASC, suppressed the expression of IL-1ß and IL-18, induced the activity of LDH, and downregulated the number of double-positive FITC anti-caspase-1 and PI. Generally, our findings suggest that JWJGC can regulate NLRP3/CAPSES/GSDMD in treating RA-FLS through pyroptosis.

OBJECTIVES: The hospital environment has been implicated in the enrichment and exchange of pathogens and antibiotic resistance, but its potential in shaping the symbiotic microbial community of hospital staff is unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the alteration of the gut microbiome in medical workers compared to non-medical controls. METHODS: A prospective cross-sectional cohort study was conducted in the intensive care unit (ICU) and other departments of a centre in north-eastern China. Faecal samples of 175 healthy medical workers-short-term (1-3 months) workers (n = 80) and long-term (>1 year) workers (n = 95)-and 80 healthy non-medical controls were analysed using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The hospital environmental samples (n = 9) were also analysed. RESULTS: The gut microbiomes of medical workers exhibited marked deviations in diversity and alteration in microbial composition and function. Short-term workers showed significantly higher abundances of taxa such as Lactobacillus, Butyrivibrio, Clostridiaceae, Clostridium, Ruminococcus, Dialister, Bifidobacterium, Odoribacter, and Desulfovibrio and lower abundances of Bacteroides and Blautia than the controls. Long-term workers showed higher abundances of taxa such as Dialister, Veillonella, Clostridiaceae, Clostridium, Bilophila, Desulfovibrio, Pseudomonas, and Akkermansia and lower abundances of Bacteroides and Coprococcus than the controls. The medical workers' department (ICU versus non-ICU) and position (resident doctor versus nursing staff) also impacted their gut microbiome. Compared with the non-ICU workers, workers in the ICU showed a significant increase in the abundances of Dialister, Enterobacteriaceae, Phascolarctobacterium, Pseudomonas, Veillonella, and Streptococcus and a marked depletion of Faecalibacterium, Blautia, and Coprococcus. In contrast with the nursing staff, the resident doctors showed a significant increase in Erysipelotrichaceae and Clostridium and a decrease in Bacteroides, Blautia, and Ruminococcus in the gut microbiome. Moreover, we found that the microbiota of hospital environments potentially correlated with the workers' gut microbiota. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrated structural changes in the gut microbial community of medical workers.

A system that combines an ion exchange membrane and ultrafiltration membrane (IEM-UF) to form a simultaneous separation and denitrification system was proposed for domestic sewage with a low carbon/nitrogen ratio. The removal of nitrogen and COD in the system was studied under a three phase operating condition. The characteristics of the microbial community in each reactor were analyzed using metagenomics. The results show that, the average rate of ammonia nitrogen enrichment in the separator reached above 116.1% when the current intensity was 0.2 A. When the system was at C/N 2.80 and operating well, the average removal rates of COD and TN reached above 90% and 50%, respectively. The maximum removal rate of TN was above 65.4%. The results of metagenomics showed a genus of phylum Nitrospirae (Nitrospira) and a genus of phylum Proteobacteria (Nitrosomonas), with the proportions of 12.23% and 2.31%, respectively. In the denitrifying reactor, Dechloromonas, Thauera, and Azospira were detected in the proportions 4.57%, 1.76%, and 1.03%, respectively. These proportions were far larger than those of other bacteria in this reactor. Meanwhile, the presence of iron autotrophic denitrifying bacteria increased the denitrification efficiency of the system.

RESUMEN

Polymer materials exhibit unique properties in the fabrication of optical waveguide devices, electromagnetic devices, and bio-devices. Direct laser writing (DLW) technology is widely used for micro-structure fabrication due to its high processing precision, low cost, and no need for mask exposure. This paper reviews the latest research progresses of polymer-based micro/nano-devices fabricated using the DLW technique as well as their applications. In order to realize various device structures and functions, different manufacture parameters of DLW systems are adopted, which are also investigated in this work. The flexible use of the DLW process in various polymer-based microstructures, including optical, electronic, magnetic, and biomedical devices are reviewed together with their applications. In addition, polymer materials which are developed with unique properties for the use of DLW technology are also discussed.

Objective: Metastasis and therapeutic resistance are the major determinants of lung cancer progression and high mortality. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a key role in the metastasis and therapeutic resistance. Highly expressed glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) is a poor prognostic factor in lung cancer and possibly correlated with EMT. This study aims to examine whether the up-regulation of GRP78 is involved in EMT in lung adenocarcinoma and explore the underlying downstream molecular pathways. Study Design: EMT was assessed by analysis of cell morphology and expression of EMT protein markers in A549 cells under normoxia, hypoxia and silencing GRP78 conditions. The expression levels of Smad2/3, Src, and MAPK (p38, ERK, and JNK) proteins were examined by Western blot analysis under hypoxia and treatments with phosphorylation inhibitors. Results: Under hypoxic conditions, the EMT morphology significantly changed and the GRP78 expression was significantly up-regulated in A549 cells compared with those in normoxia control. The expression and phosphorylation levels of smad2/3, Src, p38, ERK, and JNK were also upregulated. When GRP78 was silenced, EMT was inhibited, and the levels of phospho-smad2/3, phospho-Src, phospho-p38, phospho-ERK, and phospho-JNK were suppressed. When the activation of Smad2/3, Src, p38, ERK, and JNK was inhibited, EMT was also inhibited. The inhibition effect on EMT by these phosphorylation inhibitors was found to be weaker than that of GRP78 knockdown. Conclusions: Hypoxia-induced EMT in A549 cells is regulated by GRP78 signaling pathways. GRP78 promotes EMT by activating Smad2/3 and Src/MAPK pathways. Hence, GRP78 might be a potential target for treatment of lung adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Anthurium andraeanum, an important ornamental flower, has to go through a growth-delaying period after transfer from tissue culture to soil, which requires time and extra costs. Furthermore, during this period, the plantlets are highly susceptible to bacterial infections, which results in impaired development and severe losses. Here, we aimed to address whether application of the endophytic fungus, Piriformospora indica protects the A. andraeanum root system during the critical propagation period, and whether P. indica reduce the mortality rate by stimulating the host's resistance against diseases. RESULTS: We demonstrate that P. indica shortens the recovery period of Anthurium, promotes growth and confers disease resistance. The beneficial effect of P. indica results in faster elongation of Anthurium roots early in the interaction. P. indica-colonized plants absorb more phosphorus and exhibit higher photosynthesis rates than uncolonized control plants. Moreover, higher activities of stress-related enzymes, of jasmonic acid levels and mRNA levels of jasmonic acid-responsive genes suggest that the fungus prepares the plant to respond more efficiently to potentially upcoming threats, including bacterial wilt. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that P. indica is a helpful symbiont for promoting Anthurium rooting and development. All our evidences are sufficient to support the disease resistance conferred by P. indica through the plant-fungal symbiosis. Furthermore, it implicates that P. indica has strong potential as bio-fertilizer for utilization in ornamental plant cultivation.

In this study, a CEM-UF composite membrane with ammonia nitrogen enrichment and separation characteristics was combined with nitrification/denitrification to treat low C/N wastewater. The denitrification characteristics of low C/N wastewater at different flow ratios were investigated, and the structural characteristics of functional microbial communities in nitrifying and denitrifying activated sludge were analyzed by 16Sr DNA high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that influent TN was 60 mg·L-1, COD/TN was 2.65, the nitrification effect of each flow rate was good, and the average ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 98.7%. When the flow ratio increased from 1:2 to 1:6, the m(COD)/m(NO3--N) of denitrification was increased, and the removal of average nitrate nitrogen reached its highest level at 1:6, which was 86.28%, and the removal of total nitrogen increased from 22.56% to 46.8%. An analysis of Illumina sequencing showed that nitrogen fixing bacteria Proteobacteria accounted for 30.9%, and the important nitrite oxidizing bacteria, Nitrospirae, accounted for 3.06%. At the genus level, Nitrosomonas and Nitrosospira, belonging to the ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) category and Nitrospira and Nitrobacter, belonging to the nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) category were detected. The ratio of AOB and NOB bacteria was high, which is consistent with good nitrification in the nitrification reactor. The dominant bacteria in denitrification sludge were Proteobacteria (53.13%), followed by Bacteroidetes (10.93%). A variety of bacteria related to denitrification were detected at the genus level, such as Dechloromonas, Thauera, Castellaniella, Alicycliphilus, Azospira, Comamonas, Caldilinea, and Saccharibacteria. The proportion of denitrifying bacteria was 25.91% as denitrifying bacteria microbial species were rich in the denitrifying sludge, giving a good denitrification effect.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and risk of depressive disorder among patients with head and neck cancer. METHODS: We identified 48 548 patients from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan who were newly diagnosed with head and neck cancer between 2000 and 2010. Each patient was randomly frequency-matched with an individual without head and neck cancer, based on index year, sex, age, occupation category, urbanization level, monthly income, and comorbidities. The Cox proportional Registry of Catastrophic Illnesses Patient Database regression analysis was performed to estimate the effect of head and neck cancer on the risk of depressive disorder. RESULTS: Patients with head and neck cancer had a significantly higher risk of depressive disorder than the matched cohort (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 3.32; 95% confidence interval [CI] 3.05-3.61), with the highest risk seen in the hypopharynx and oropharynx. CONCLUSION: Patients with head and neck cancer had >3 times the incidence of depressive disorder, relative to the comparison group. Psychological evaluation and support are essential in head and neck cancer survivors.

An investigation on the bioactive chemical constituents of the roots of Euphorbia fischeriana has been conducted, with 21 diterpenoids obtained using various chromatographic techniques. On the basis of spectroscopic data analysis, the new compounds were elucidated as four ent-abietane-type diterpenoids (1-4) and four tigliane-type diterpenoids (13-16). Also obtained were eight known ent-abietane (5-12) and five known tigliane (17-21) diterpenoids. The potential antituberculosis effects of these diterpenoids were evaluated using a Mycobacterium smegmatis model. The most potent compound according to the in vitro bioassay used was 17-hydroxyjolkinolide B (12) (MIC 1.5 µg/mL).

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated a medication therapy management service using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Administration's PharmaCloud system in a medical center in Taiwan. The new PharmaCloud System, launched in 2013, links a complete list of prescribed and dispensed medication from different hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies for all insured patients. METHOD: The study included patients with polypharmacy (≥5 drugs) at a medication therapy management service from March 2013 to March 2014. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect patients' baseline data and record patients' knowledge, attitudes, and practice scores before and after the service intervention. Phone follow-ups for practice and adherence scores on medication use were performed after 3 months. RESULTS: There were 152 patients recruited in the study. Scores for medication use attitudes and practice significantly increased after the service (attitudes: 40.06 ± 0.26 to 43.07 ± 0.19, p <0.001; practice: 33.42 ± 0.30 to 40.37 ± 0.30, p <0.001). The scores for medication adherence also increased from 3.02 ± 0.07 to 3.92 ± 0.02 (p <0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The PharmaCloud system facilitates accurate and efficient medication reconciliation for pharmacists in the medication therapy management service. The model improved patients' attitudes and practice of the rational use of medications and adherence with medications. Further studies are warranted to evaluate human resources, executing costs, and the cost-benefit ratio of this medication therapy management service with the PharmaCloud system.

The aim of the article is to analyze breast cancer patient clinical outcomes after long-term follow-up using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) or conventional tangential radiotherapy (cRT). We retrospectively reviewed patients with stage 0-III breast cancer who received breast conserving therapy between April 2004 and December 2007. Of the 234 patients, 103 (44%) were treated with IMRT and 131 (56%) were treated with cRT. A total prescription dose of 45 to 50 Gy (1.8-2 Gy per fraction) was delivered to the whole breast. A 14 Gy boost dose was delivered in 7 fractions. The median follow-up was 8.2 years. Five of 131 (3.8%) cRT-treated patients and 2 of 103 (1.9%) IMRT-treated patients had loco-regional failure. The 8-year loco-regional failure-free survival rates were 96.7% and 97.6% (P = 0.393) in the cRT and IMRT groups, respectively, whereas the 8-year disease-free survival (DFS) rates were 91.2% and 93.1%, respectively (P = 0.243). Patients treated with IMRT developed ≥ grade 2 acute dermatitis less frequently than patients treated with cRT (40.8% vs 56.5%; P = 0.017). There were no differences in late toxicity. IMRT reduces ≥ grade 2 acute skin toxicity. Local control, DFS, and overall survival were equivalent with IMRT and cRT. IMRT can be considered a standard technique for breast cancer treatment.

Objective To preliminarily observe miRNA gene profiles in benefit serum of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated by TCM combined Western medicine (WM) , and to seek for molecular markers for its efficacy monitoring and prediction. Methods Recruited were 5 advanced NSCLC patients who received TCM combined WM treatment and obtained efficacy benefit ( as the treatment group) , 3 advanced NSCLC patients who received early treatment ( as the lung cancer group) , and 3 healthy subjects (as the control group). Serum samples were collected and total RNA was extracted using Trizol method. Using microRNA PCR ARRAY chip technology (product of Exiqon Company) , differentially miRNA expression profiling in serum between the lung cancer group and the control group, and between the treatment group and the lung cancer group were detected. Benefit miRNA expression profiling was ob- tained based on cluster analysis and comparative analysis. Results After tested by miRNA PCR ARRAY and managed by data analysis, a total of 42 miRNAs with more than 2 folds difference were screened in the lung cancer group and the control group, including 29 up-regulated and 12 down-regulated miRNAs. Be- sides, miR-10b-5p, miR-21-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-361-3p, and miR-382-5p were statistically different (P < 0. 05). A total of 45 miRNAs with more than 2 folds difference were screened in the treatment group and the lung cancer group, including 12 up-regulated and 33 down-regulated miRNAs. Fifteen miRNAs were statistically different including miR-137-3p, miR-182-5p, miR-376a-3p, miR-382-5p, miR-409-3p, miR-10a-5p, miR-21-5p, miR-29a-3p, miR-141-3p, miR-150-5p, miR-200c-3p, miR-342-3p, miR-365a-3p, miR-375, miR- 502-3p (P<0.05). Totally 22 miRNAs were screened in the treatment group with more than 2 folds differ- ence as compared with the lung cancer group and with less than or equivalent to 2 folds difference as com- pared with the control group, including 7 up-regulated and 15 down-regulated miRNAs, of which, miR-127- 3p, miR-182-5p, miR-382-5p, miR-409-3p, miR-10a-5p, miR-21-5p, miR-141-3p, miR-342-3p were statistically different (P <0. 05). Conclusion miRNAs including miR-21-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-382-5p are promising to become molecular markers for efficacy monitoring and prediction of advanced NSCLC treated by TCM combined WM, which provides reference for individualized treating advanced NSCLC.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Recent clinical reports of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in the treatment of low-risk prostate cancer have been encouraging. Our study evaluates the efficacy and safety of SABR using the CyberKnife system for treating intermediate- to very-high-risk prostate cancer. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: Between May 2010 and June 2013, 31 patients (15 intermediate risk, 14 high risk, and 2 very high risk) without pelvic lymph node metastasis were enrolled retrospectively. The treatment consisted of 37.5 Gy in 5 fractions over 1-2 weeks using CyberKnife SABR. Twenty-five patients (81%) received androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Biochemical failure was defined using the nadir + 2 criterion. Toxicity was assessed with the Common Terminology Criteria of Adverse Events (version 4). RESULTS: The median follow-up was 36 months (range 7-58 months). The median pretreatment prostate--pecific antigen (PSA) was 13.5 ng/mL (range 4.5-124.0 ng/mL). The median PSA decreased to 0.09 ng/mL (range <0.04-5.38 ng/mL) and 0.12 ng/mL (range <0.04-2.63 ng/mL) at 6 months and 12 months after SABR, respectively. The 3-year biochemical relapse-free survival was 90.2% for all patients, 100% for the intermediate-risk patients, and 82% for the high- and very-high-risk patients (p = 0.186). No patient experienced ≥ grade 3 toxicity. There were 7 acute and 5 late grade 2 genitourinary toxicities and 1 acute and no late grade 2 gastrointestinal toxicity. CONCLUSIONS: Our preliminary results support that CyberKnife SABR with ADT is safe and feasible in patients with intermediate- to high-risk prostate cancer. A further large-scale clinical trial with longer follow-up is warranted.

RESUMEN

By exploiting the polymer/silica hybrid and the air trench waveguide structures, we demonstrate a new type of low-power consuming and high-speed thermal-optic (TO) switch. Such a design provides an effective means to shorten the switching time of the TO switches, as well as to reduce the power consumption at the same time. This TO switch operated with less than 150 µs of switching time via a polymer/silica hybrid waveguide structure. Meanwhile, the power consumption was reduced to be 3.4 mW by introducing the air trench structure.
