BACKGROUND: Postoperative delirium (POD) often occurs in oncology patients, further increasing the medical and financial burden. Robotic technology in lower abdominal tumors resection reduces surgical trauma but increases risks such as carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption. This study aimed to investigate the differences in their occurrence of POD at different end-tidal CO2 levels. METHOD: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Affiliated Hospital of He Bei University (HDFY-LL-2022-169). The study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry on URL: http://www.chictr.org.cn , Registry Number: ChiCTR2200056019 (Registry Date: 27/08/2022). In patients scheduled robotic lower abdominal tumor resection from September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, a comprehensive delirium assessment was performed three days postoperatively using the CAM scale with clinical review records. Intraoperative administration of different etCO2 was performed depending on the randomized grouping after intubation. Group L received lower level etCO2 management (31-40mmHg), and Group H maintained the higher level(41-50mmHg) during pneumoperitoneum. Data were analyzed using Pearson Chi-Square or Wilcoxon Rank Sum tests and multiple logistic regression. Preoperative mental status score, alcohol impairment score, nicotine dependence score, history of hypertension and diabetes, duration of surgery and worst pain score were included in the regression model along with basic patient information for covariate correction analysis. RESULTS: Among the 103 enrolled patients, 19 (18.4%) developed postoperative delirium. The incidence of delirium in different etCO2 groups was 21.6% in Group L and 15.4% in Group H, respectively, with no statistical differences. In adjusted multivariate analysis, age and during of surgery were statistically significant predictors of postoperative delirium. The breath-hold test was significantly lower postoperatively, but no statistical differences were found between two groups. CONCLUSION: With robotic assistant, the incidence of postoperative delirium in patients undergoing lower abdominal tumor resection was not modified by different end-tidal carbon dioxide management, however, age and duration of surgery were positively associated risk factors.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) demonstrate unique advantages in the treatment of lung cancer and are widely used in the era of immunotherapy. However, ICIs can cause adverse reactions. Hematological toxicities induced by immunotherapy are relatively rare. Agranulocytosis, a rare hematologic adverse event associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, has received limited attention in terms of treatment and patient demographics. Herein, we report the case of a 68-year-old male with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) who received two cycles of programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) antibody sintilimab immunotherapy combined with albumin-bound paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy and one cycle of sintilimab monotherapy. He was diagnosed with grade 4 neutropenia and sepsis (with symptoms of fever and chills) after the first two cycles of treatment. Teicoplanin was promptly initiated as antimicrobial therapy. The patient presented with sudden high fever and developed agranulocytosis on the day of the third cycle of treatment initiation, characterized by an absolute neutrophil count of 0.0×109/L. The patient was treated with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor but did not show improvement. He was then treated with corticosteroids, and absolute neutrophil counts gradually returned to normal levels. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of sintilimab-induced agranulocytosis in a patient with NSCLC. Sintilimab-induced severe neutropenia or agranulocytosis is a rare side effect that should be distinguished from chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and treated promptly with appropriate therapies; otherwise, the condition may worsen.

To date there are only pirfenidone (PFD) and nintedanib to be given conditional recommendation in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) therapies with slowing disease progression, but neither has prospectively shown a reduced mortality. It is one of the urgent topics to find effective drugs for pulmonary fibrosis in medicine. Previous studies have demonstrated that microcystin-RR (MC-RR) effectively alleviates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis, but the mechanism has not been fully elucidated yet. We further conducted a comparison of therapeutic effect on the model animals of pulmonary fibrosis between MC-RR and PFD with histopathology and the expression of the molecular markers involved in differentiation, proliferation and metabolism of myofibroblasts, a major effector cell of tissue fibrosis. The levels of the enzyme molecules for maintaining the stability of interstitial structure were also evaluated. Our results showed that MC-RR and PFD effectively alleviated pulmonary fibrosis in model mice with a decreased signaling and marker molecules associated with myofibroblast differentiation and lung fibrotic lesion. In the meantime, both MC-RR and PFD treatment are beneficial to restore molecular dynamics of interstitial tissue and maintain the stability of interstitial architecture. Unexpectedly, MC-RR, rather than PFD, showed a significant effect on inhibiting PKM2-HIF-1α signaling and reducing the level of p-STAT3. Additionally, MC-RR showed a better inhibition effect on FGFR1 expression. Given that PKM2-HIF-1α and activated STAT3 molecular present a critical role in promoting the proliferation of myofibroblasts, MC-RR as a new strategy for IPF treatment has potential advantage over PFD.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a significant public health issue worldwide, with a hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroprevalence of 3.5%. Maternal HBV infection during pregnancy, a common comorbidity, is associated with an increase in the risk of adverse obstetric and perinatal outcomes. However, the relationship between maternal HBV infection and postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality, is currently uncertain. The aim of this study is to comprehensively clarify the potential impact of maternal HBV on PPH risk. Methods and Analysis: The authors initially searched five English databases and three Chinese databases from their inception to 26th June 2023. Two reviewers will independently conduct study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment. Cohort and case-control studies investigating the effect of maternal HBV infection on PPH will be included, with study quality assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Meta-analyses will be performed using a fixed-effects model for I 2≤50% or a random-effects model otherwise. Several categories of subgroup analyses (e.g. sample size more than 1000 vs. less than 1000) and sensitivity analyses (e.g. omit NOS scores less than 7) will be conducted, and publication bias will be assessed through funnel plots, Begg's and Egger's tests using STATA 18.0. Ethics and Dissemination: This systematic review and meta-analysis do not require ethics approval and the results will be published in peer-reviewed journals. The findings of this systematic review will provide evidence on the impact of maternal HBV infection on PPH, which will contribute to better prevention and management of PPH in clinical practice and a better understanding of the disease burden of HBV infection. BACKGROUND: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a standard treatment for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The complications of TACE include biliary tract infection, liver dysfunction, tumor lysis syndrome, biloma, partial intestinal obstruction, cerebral lipiodol embolism, etc. There are few reports about tracheal fistula induced by TACE. CASE SUMMARY: A 42-year-old man came to our hospital with cough and expectoration for 1 month after TACE for HCC. Laboratory test results showed abnormalities of albumin, hemoglobin, prothrombin time, C-reactive protein, D-dimer, and prothrombin. Culture of both phlegm and liver pus revealed growth of Citrobacter flavescens. Computed tomography showed infection in the inferior lobe of the right lung and a low-density lesion with gas in the right liver. Liver ultrasound showed that there was a big hypoechoic liquid lesion without blood flow signal. Drainage for liver abscess by needle puncture under ultrasonic guidance was performed. After 1 month of drainage and anti-infection therapy, the abscess in the liver and the infection in the lung were reduced obviously, and the symptom of expectoration was relieved. CONCLUSION: Clinicians should be alert to the possibility of complications of liver abscess and tracheal fistula after TACE for HCC. Drainage for liver abscess by needle puncture under ultrasonic guidance could relieve the liver abscess and tracheal fistula.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have investigated the feasibility of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) using a free-breathing golden-angle radial stack-of-stars volume-interpolated breath-hold examination (FB radial VIBE) sequence in the lung. PURPOSE: To investigate whether DCE-MRI using the FB radial VIBE sequence can assess morphological and kinetic parameters in patients with pulmonary lesions, with computed tomography (CT) as the reference. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In total, 43 patients (30 men; mean age = 64 years) with one lesion each were prospectively enrolled. Morphological and kinetic features on MRI were calculated. The diagnostic performance of morphological MR features was evaluated using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Kinetic features were compared among subgroups based on histopathological subtype, lesion size, and lymph node metastasis. RESULTS: The maximum diameter was not significantly different between CT and MRI (3.66 ± 1.62 cm vs. 3.64 ± 1.72 cm; P = 0.663). Spiculation, lobulation, cavitation or bubble-like areas of low attenuation, and lymph node enlargement had an area under the ROC curve (AUC) >0.9, while pleural indentation yielded an AUC of 0.788. The lung cancer group had significantly lower Ktrans, Ve, and initial AUC values than the other cause inflammation group (0.203, 0.158, and 0.589 vs. 0.597, 0.385, and 1.626; P < 0.05) but significantly higher values than the tuberculosis group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Morphology features derived from FB radial VIBE have high correlations with CT, and kinetic analyses show significant differences between benign and malignant lesions. DCE-MRI with FB radial VIBE could serve as a complementary quantification tool to CT for radiation-free assessments of lung lesions.

In the context of global population growth expected in the future, enhancing the agri-food yield is crucial. Plant diseases significantly impact crop production and food security. Modern microfluidics offers a compact and convenient approach for detecting these defects. Although this field is still in its infancy and few comprehensive reviews have explored this topic, practical research has great potential. This paper reviews the principles, materials, and applications of microfluidic technology for detecting plant diseases caused by various pathogens. Its performance in realizing the separation, enrichment, and detection of different pathogens is discussed in depth to shed light on its prospects. With its versatile design, microfluidics has been developed for rapid, sensitive, and low-cost monitoring of plant diseases. Incorporating modules for separation, preconcentration, amplification, and detection enables the early detection of trace amounts of pathogens, enhancing crop security. Coupling with imaging systems, smart and digital devices are increasingly being reported as advanced solutions.

Persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs) are excellent luminescent materials, and near-infrared PLNPs are efficiently applied for biosensing and bioimaging due to their advantages of no excitation, excellent light stability and long afterglow. However, due to interference from the complex environment within organisms, single-mode imaging methods often face limitations in selectivity, sensitivity, and accuracy. Therefore, it is desirable to construct a dual-mode imaging probe strategy with higher specificity and sensitivity for bioimaging. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used in the field of bioimaging due to its advantages of high resolution, non-radiation and non-invasiveness. Here, by combining near-infrared PLNPs and manganese dioxide (MnO2) nanosheets, a sensitive and convenient dual-mode "turn on" bioimaging nanoprobe ZGC@MnO2 has been developed for long afterglow imaging and MRI of endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The monitoring of H2O2 has garnered significant attention due to its crucial role in human pathologies. For the dual-mode "turn on" bioimaging nanoprobe, the near-infrared PLNPs of quasi-spherical ZnGa2O4:Cr (ZGC) nanoparticles were synthesized as luminophores, and MnO2 nanosheets were utilized as a fluorescence quencher, carrier and H2O2 recognizer. H2O2 in the TME could reduce MnO2 nanosheets to Mn2+ for MRI, and ZGC nanoparticles were released for long afterglow imaging. Finally, the ZGC@MnO2 nanoprobe exhibited a rapid response, an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and a limit of detection of 3.67 nM for endogenous H2O2 in the TME. This dual-mode approach enhances the detection sensitivity for endogenous H2O2, thereby facilitating the research of endogenous H2O2-associated diseases and clinical diagnostics.

Backgrounds: Improving quality of life (QOL) is one of the main aims of lung transplantation (LTx). There is a need to identify those who have poor quality of life early. However, research addressing inter individual quality of life variability among them is lacking. This study aims to identify group patterns in quality of life among lung transplant recipients and examine the predictors associated with quality of life subgroups. Methods: In total, 173 lung transplant recipients were recruited from one hospital in Guangdong Province between September 2022 and August 2023. They were assessed using the Lung Transplant Quality of Life scale (LT-QOL), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Life Orientation Test-Revised scale (LOT-R), and Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). Latent profile analysis was used to identify QOL subtypes, and logistic regression analysis was used to examine the associations between latent profiles and sociodemographic and psychosocial characteristics. Results: Two distinct QOL profiles were identified: "low HRQOL" profile [N = 53 (30.94%)] and "high HRQOL" profile [N = 120 (69.06%)]. Single lung transplant recipients, and patients who reported post-transplant infection, high levels of negative emotion or low levels of mindfulness and optimism were significantly correlated with the low QOL subgroup. Conclusion: Using the domains of the LT-QOL scale, two profiles were identified among the lung transplant recipients. Our findings highlighted that targeted intervention should be developed based on the characteristics of each latent class, and timely attention must be paid to patients who have undergone single lung transplantation, have had a hospital readmission due to infection, exhibit low levels of optimism, low levels of mindfulness or high negative emotions.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the importance of the locus coeruleus (LC) in sleep-wake regulation. Both essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD) share common sleep disorders, such as poor quality of sleep (QoS). LC pathology is a feature of both diseases. A question arises regarding the contribution of LC degeneration to the occurrence of poor QoS. Objective: To evaluate the association between LC impairment and sleep disorders in ET and PD patients. Methods: A total of 83 patients with ET, 124 with PD, and 83 healthy individuals were recruited and divided into ET/PD with/without poor QoS (Sle/NorET and Sle/NorPD) subgroups according to individual Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score. Neuromelanin-sensitive magnetic resonance imaging (NM-MRI) and free-water imaging derived from diffusion MRI were performed. Subsequently, we evaluated the association between contrast-to-noise ratio of LC (CNRLC) and free-water value of LC (FWLC) with PSQI scores in ET and PD groups. Results: CNRLC was significantly lower in ET (p = 0.047) and PD (p = 0.018) than in healthy individuals, whereas no significant difference was found in FWLC among the groups. No significant differences were observed in CNR/FWLC between patients with/without sleep disorders after multiple comparison correction. No correlation was identified between CNR/FWLC and PSQI in ET and PD patients. Conclusions: LC degeneration was observed in both ET and PD patients, implicating its involvement in the pathophysiology of both diseases. Additionally, no significant association was observed between LC integrity and PSQI, suggesting that LC impairment might not directly relate to overall QoS.

Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis (L.) Makino) stands as a widely cultivated leafy vegetable in China, with its leaf morphology significantly influencing both quality and yield. Despite its agricultural importance, the precise mechanisms governing leaf wrinkling development remain elusive. This investigation focuses on 'Wutacai', a representative cultivar of the Tacai variety (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis var. rosularis Tsen et Lee), renowned for its distinct leaf wrinkling characteristics. Within the genome of 'Wutacai', we identified a total of 18 YUCs, designated as BraWTC_YUCs, revealing their conservation within the Brassica genus, and their close homology to YUCs in Arabidopsis. Expression profiling unveiled that BraWTC_YUCs in Chinese Cabbage exhibited organ-specific and leaf position-dependent variation. Additionally, transcriptome sequencing data from the flat leaf cultivar 'Suzhouqing' and the wrinkled leaf cultivar 'Wutacai' revealed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to auxin during the early phases of leaf development, particularly the YUC gene. In summary, this study successfully identified the YUC gene family in 'Wutacai' and elucidated its potential function in leaf wrinkling trait, to provide valuable insights into the prospective molecular mechanisms that regulate leaf wrinkling in Chinese cabbage.

Flexible metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbents commonly encounter limitations in removing trace impurities below gate-opening threshold pressures. Topology reconfiguration can fundamentally eliminate intrinsic structural flexibility, yet remains a formidable challenge and is rarely achieved in practical applications. Herein, a solvent-mediated approach is presented to regulate the flexible CuSnF6-dpds-sql (dpds = 4,4''-dipyridyldisulfide) with sql topology into rigid CuSnF6-dpds-cds with cds topology. Notably, the cds topology is unprecedented and first obtained in anion-pillared MOF materials. As a result, rigid CuSnF6-dpds-cds exhibits enhanced C2H2 adsorption capacity of 48.61 cm3 g-1 at 0.01 bar compared to flexible CuSnF6-dpds-sql (21.06 cm3 g-1). The topology transformation also facilitates the adsorption kinetics for C2H2, exhibiting a 6.5-fold enhanced diffusion time constant (D/r2) of 1.71 × 10-3 s-1 on CuSnF6-dpds-cds than that of CuSnF6-dpds-sql (2.64 × 10-4 s-1). Multiple computational simulations reveal the structural transformations and guest-host interactions in both adsorbents. Furthermore, dynamic breakthrough experiments demonstrate that high-purity C2H4 (>99.996%) effluent with a productivity of 93.9 mmol g-1 can be directly collected from C2H2/C2H4 (1/99, v/v) gas-mixture in a single CuSnF6-dpds-cds column.

To address the issue of high energy consumption associated with monoethanolamine (MEA) regeneration in the CO2 capture process, solid acid catalysts have been widely investigated due to their performance in accelerating carbamate decomposition. The recently discovered carbon nanotube (CNT) catalyst presents efficient catalytic activity for bicarbonate decomposition. In this paper, bifunctional catalysts SO42-/TiO2-CNT (STC) were prepared, which could simultaneously catalyze carbamate and bicarbonate decomposition, and outstanding catalytic performance has been exhibited. STC significantly increased the CO2 desorption amount by 82.3% and decreased the relative heat duty by 46% compared to the MEA-CO2 solution without catalysts. The excellent stability of STC was confirmed by 15 cyclic absorption-desorption experiments, showing good practical feasibility for decreasing energy consumption in an industrial CO2 capture process. Furthermore, associated with the results of experimental characterization and theoretical calculations, the synergistic catalysis of STC catalysts via proton and charge transfer was proposed. This work demonstrated the potential of STC catalysts in improving the efficiency of amine regeneration processes and reducing energy consumption, contributing to the design of more effective and economical catalysts for carbon capture.

Introduction: Gastric cancer, characterized by high incidence and substantial disease burden, has drawn continuous attention regarding its occurrence and prognosis. Genetics plays a crucial role in influencing the prognosis of gastric cancer, and single nucleotide polymorphisms are closely associated with the occurrence, development, and prognosis of this malignant tumor. Our study aims to conduct survival analysis on patients carrying different single nucleotide polymorphisms, exploring the relationship between miRNA single nucleotide polymorphisms and the prognosis of gastric cancer. Methods: Genetic data from 344 patients in Xianyou, Fujian, formed the basis of our study. We delineated the survival rate and median survival time, utilizing the log-rank test and COX regression analysis as statistical tools. Results: Upon stratifying the data by sex or operation, it was discerned that the GG genotype at MSH2 rs17502941 independently posed a heightened risk for gastric cancer. Other stratification analyses suggested that the subsequent single nucleotide polymorphisms were correlated with patient prognosis: rs17502941, rs884225, rs1468063, rs7143252, and rs2271738. Discussion: The outcomes of this study strongly suggest that miRNA polymorphisms significantly influence the survival time of gastric cancer patients and can serve as effective predictors for the prognosis of gastric cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate distribution and drug resistance of pathogens of bloodstream infection in patients with hematological malignancies, in order to provide reference for clinical infection control and treatment. METHODS: The clinical information of blood culture patients in the hematology department of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2021 was reviewed. They were divided into transplantation group and non-transplantation group according to whether they had undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The types of pathogens and their drug resistance were analyzed. RESULTS: Two hundred and ninety-nine positive strains of pathogenic bacteria were detected. In the transplantation group, Gram-negative bacteria accounted for 68.5% (50/73), Gram-positive bacteria accounted for 6.8% (5/73), and fungi accounted for 24.7% (18/73). The resistance rate of Escherichia coli to the third-generation cephalosporins was 77.8%, and 11.5% to carbapenems. The resistance rate of Klebsiella pneumoniae to the third-generation cephalosporins was 50.0%, and 56.2% to carbapenems. In the non-transplantation group, Gram-negative bacteria accounted for 64.1% (145/226), Gram-positive bacteria accounted for 31.0% (70/226), and fungi accounted for 4.9% (11/226). Gram-positive bacteria were mainly Enterococcus faecium (6.6%, 15/226) and Coagulase-negative Staphylococci (6.2%, 14/226). The fungi were all Candida tropicalis. The resistance rate of Escherichia coli to the third-generation cephalosporins was 63.8%, and 10.3% to carbapenems. The resistance rate of Klebsiella pneumoniae to the third-generation cephalosporins was 46.3%, and 26.8% to carbapenems. CONCLUSION: The types of pathogenic bacteria in bloodstream infection in patients with hematological malignancies are varied. Gram-negative bacteria is the main pathogenic bacteria. The resistance of pathogenic bacteria to antibiotics is severe. Antibiotics should be used scientifically and reasonably according to the detection and resistance of pathogenic bacteria.

Aim: To investigate the association between cognitive function and body composition in older adults. Methods: We collected data on 2080 older adults (>60 years of age) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for the years 1999-2000 and 2001-2002. Candidate variables included: demographic data (sex, age, race, education level, marital status, poverty-to-income ratio), alcohol consumption, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, total bone mineral density, and total fat mass. A logistic regression model was established to analyze the association between cognitive function and body composition in older adults. In addition, stratified logics regression analysis was performed by sex and age. Results: Bone mineral density significantly affects cognitive function in older adults (p<0.01). When examining the data according to sex, this correlation is present for women (p < 0.01). For men, though, it is not significant (p = 0.081). Stratified by age, total bone mineral density was significantly correlated with cognitive function in 60-70 and 70-80 years old people, but not in older adults older than 80 years(for 60-70 years old, p = 0.019; for 70-80 years old, p = 0.022). There was no significant correlation between total bone mineral density and cognitive function (p = 0.575). Conclusion: The decrease of total bone mineral density was significantly correlated with cognitive decline in the older adults, especially among women and older people in the 60 to 80 age group. There was no connection between total fat mass, total percent fat, total lean mass, appendicular lean mass, appendicular lean mass /BMI and cognitive function in the older adults.

Because of their innate chemical stability, the ubiquitous perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been dubbed "forever chemicals" and have attracted considerable attention. However, their stability under environmental conditions has not been widely verified. Herein, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a widely used and detected PFAS, was found to be spontaneously degraded in aqueous microdroplets under room temperature and atmospheric pressure conditions. This unexpected fast degradation occurred via a unique multicycle redox reaction of PFOA with interfacial reactive species on the droplet surface. Similar degradation was observed for other PFASs. This study extends the current understanding of the environmental fate and chemistry of PFASs and provides insight into aid in the development of effective methods for removing PFASs.

Ultrasmall iron oxide nanoparticles (USIO NPs) are expected to become the next generation T1 contrast agents; however, their diagnostic and therapeutic potential for primary brain tumors (such as glioblastoma multiforme, GBM) is yet to be explored. At present, the main challenge is the effective hindering of biological barriers, including the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and the blood-brain tumor barrier (BBTB). Herein, we aimed to investigate whether the USIO NPs, in combination with MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS), could intensify MR imaging of GBM. In this study, we presented zwitterionic USIO NPs for enhanced MR imaging of both xenografted and orthotopic GBM mouse models. We first synthesized citric-stabilized USIO NPs with a size of 3.19 ± 0.76 nm, modified with ethylenediamine, and decorated with 1,3-propanesultone (1,3-PS) to form USIO NPs-1,3-PS. The obtained USIO NPs-1,3-PS exhibited good cytocompatibility and cellular uptake efficiency. MRgFUS, in combination with microbubbles, provided a non-invasive and safe technique for BBB opening, which, in turn, promoted the delivery of USIO NPs-1,3-PS in orthotopic GBM. This developed USIO NP nanoplatform may improve the precision imaging of solid tumors and therapeutic efficacy in the central nervous system.

The coastal urban region is generally considered an atmospheric receptor for terrestrial and marine input materials, and rainfall chemistry can trace the wet scavenging process of these materials. Fast urbanization in China's east coastal areas has greatly altered the rainwater chemistry. However, the chemical variations, determinants, and sources of rainfall are unclear. Therefore, the typical coastal city of Fuzhou was selected for 1-year rainwater sampling and inorganic ions were detected to explore above problems. The findings depicted that rainwater ions in Fuzhou were slightly different from those in other coastal cities. Although NO3-, SO42-, Ca2+ and NH4+ dominated the rainwater ions, the marine input Cl- (22 %) and Na+ (11 %) also contributed a considerable percentage to the rainwater ions. Large differences in ion concentrations (2∼28 times) were found in monthly scale due to the rainfall amount. Both natural and anthropogenic determinants influenced the rainwater ions in coastal cities, such as SO2 emission, air SO2 and PM10 content on rainwater SO42-, NO3-, and Ca2+, and soot & dust emission on rainwater SO42-, NO3-, indicating the vital contribution of human activities. Stoichiometry and positive matrix factorization-based sources identification indicated that atmospheric dust/particles were the primary contributor of Ca2+ (83.3 %) and F- (83.7 %), and considerable contributor of SO42- (39.5 %), NO3- (38.3 %) and K+ (41.5 %). Anthropogenic origins, such as urban waste volatilization and fuel combustion emission, contributed 95 % of NH4+, 54.5 % of NO3- and 41.9 % of SO42-, and the traffic sources contribution was relatively higher than fixed emission sources. The marine input represented the vital source of Cl- (77.7 %), Na+ (84.9 %), and Mg2+ (55.3 %). This work highlights the significant influence of urban human activities and marine input on rainwater chemicals and provides new insight into the material cycle between the atmosphere and earth-surface in coastal city.

Iso-butene (iso-C4H8) is an important raw material in chemical industry, whereas its efficient separation remains challenging due to similar molecular properties of C4 olefins. The ideal adsorbent should possess simultaneous high uptakes for 1,3-butadiene (C4H6) and n-butene (n-C4H8) counterparts, endowing high efficiency for iso-C4H8 separation in adsorption columns. Herein, a sulfate-pillared adsorbent, SOFOUR-DPDS-Ni (DPDS = 4,4'-dipyridyldisulfide), is reported for the efficient iso-C4H8 separation from binary and ternary C4 olefin mixtures. The rigidity in pore sizes and shapes of SOFOUR-DPDS-Ni exerts the molecular sieving of iso-C4H8, while exhibiting high C4H6 and n-C4H8 uptakes. The benchmark Henry's selectivity for C4H6/iso-C4H8 (2321.8) and n-C4H8/iso-C4H8 (233.5) outperforms most reported adsorbents. Computational simulations reveal the strong interactions for C4H6 and n-C4H8. Furthermore, dynamic breakthrough experiments demonstrate the direct production of high-purity iso-C4H8 (>99.9%) from C4H6/iso-C4H8 (50/50, v/v), n-C4H8/iso-C4H8 (50/50, v/v), and C4H6/n-C4H8/iso-C4H8 (50/15/35, v/v/v) gas-mixtures.
