RESUMEN

Physical exercise is crucial to the development of students' physical and mental health. This study explored the relationship between live sports learning and college students' exercise behaviors, and the mediating roles of exercise motivation and exercise commitment, aiming to provide theoretical bases for the future that explain the mechanism of live sports learning in exercise behaviors, as well as practical guidance for the promotion of positive physical exercise behaviors in college students. In total, 1189 college students from China volunteered to complete questionnaires. The results showed that live sports learning positively predicted college students' exercise behavior and that live sports learning was able to affect exercise behavior through the mediating roles of exercise motivation and exercise commitment, with specific mediating paths including the two independent mediating paths and a serial mediating path of exercise motivation and exercise commitment. This study confirmed, for the first time, on live sports learning in the process of promoting exercise behavior. It is suggested that educators instruct college students to regulate their participation in live sports learning and to cultivate healthy exercise motivation and exercise commitment, which is an effective way to facilitate college students' practice of physical activity.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Tsutsugamushi, also known as bush typhus, is a naturally occurring disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi. We reported a case of vertical mother-to-newborn transmission of Orientia tsutsugamushi infection in a newborn from Yunnan (China). CASE PRESENTATION: Decreased fetal movements were observed at 39 weeks of gestation. After birth, the newborn (female) had recurrent fever, shortness of breath, and bruising around the mouth and extremities. At 5 h 58 min of age, the newborn was admitted for fever, shortness of breath and generalized rash. The liver was palpable 3 cm below the costal margin, and the limbs showed pitting edema. There was subcutaneous bleeding. Investigations suggested heavy infection, myocardial damage, decreased platelets. Treatment with cefotaxime and ampicillin failed. The mother was hospitalized at 29 weeks of gestation with a fever for 4 consecutive days, and an ulcerated crust was found in the popliteal fossa. Due to this pregnancy history, A diagnosis of Orientia tsutsugamushi infection was suspected in our index case and confirmed by macrogenomic testing and she was treated with vancomycin and meropenem, and later azithromycin for 1 week. The newborn was discharged in good general condition, gradually normalizing body temperature, and decreasing rash and jaundice. There were no abnormalities on subsequent blood macrogenomic tests for the baby. And one month later she showed good mental health, sleep, and food intake and no fever, rash, or jaundice. CONCLUSION: Determining the cause of symptoms is the key to treating diseases, especially the rare diseases that can be misdiagnosed. SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH: Infectious Diseases; Neonatology; Obstetrics.

RESUMEN

Osteosarcopenia is defined as the concurrent occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia. The aim of the current study was to perform a systematic review with meta-analysis to determine the global prevalence, risk factors and clinical outcomes of osteosarcopenia. This review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022351229). PubMed, Cochrane, Medline and Embase were searched from inception to February 2023 to retrieve eligible observational population-based studies. Pooled osteosarcopenia prevalence was calculated with 95% confidence interval (CI), and subgroup analyses were performed. The risk factor of osteosarcopenia and its association with clinical outcomes were expressed as odds ratio (OR) and hazard ratio (HR), respectively. Heterogeneity was estimated using the I2 test. Study quality was assessed using validated instruments matched to study designs. The search identified 55 158 studies, and 66 studies (64 404 participants, mean age from 46.6 to 93 years) were analysed in the final analysis, including 48 cross-sectional studies, 17 cohort studies and 1 case-control study. Overall, the pooled prevalence of osteosarcopenia was 18.5% (95% CI: 16.7-20.3, I2  = 98.7%), including 15.3% (95% CI: 13.2-17.4, I2  = 97.6%) in men and 19.4% (95% CI: 16.9-21.9, I2  = 98.5%) in women. The prevalence of osteosarcopenia diagnosed using sarcopenia plus osteopenia/osteoporosis was 20.7% (95% CI: 17.1-24.4, I2  = 98.55%), and the prevalence of using sarcopenia plus osteoporosis was 16.1% (95% CI: 13.3-18.9, I2  = 98.0%). The global osteosarcopenia prevalence varied in different regions with 22.9% in Oceania, 21.6% in Asia, 20.8% in South America, 15.7% in North America and 10.9% in Europe. A statistically significant difference was found in the subgroups of the study population between the hospital (24.7%) and community (12.9%) (P = 0.001). Frailty (OR = 4.72, 95% CI: 2.71-8.23, I2  = 61.1%), malnutrition (OR = 2.35, 95% CI: 1.62-3.40, I2  = 50.0%), female sex (OR = 5.07, 95% CI: 2.96-8.69, I2  = 73.0%) and higher age (OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.06-1.15, I2 ==86.0%) were significantly associated with a higher risk for osteosarcopenia. Meta-analysis of cohort studies showed that osteosarcopenia significantly increased the risk of fall (HR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.20-1.97; I2  = 1.0%, three studies), fracture (HR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.61-2.81; I2  = 67.8%, seven studies) and mortality (HR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.34-2.28; I2  = 0.0%, five studies). Despite the heterogeneity arising from varied definitions and criteria, our findings highlight a significant global prevalence of osteosarcopenia and its negative impact on clinical health. Standardizing diagnostic criteria for osteosarcopenia would be advantageous in the future, and early detection and management should be emphasized in this patient population.

RESUMEN

The present study examined the relationship between physical exercise and social anxiety by testing a moderated mediation model that focused on how peer relationships mediate the relationship between physical exercise and social anxiety and how flow experience moderates this mediated relationship. A total of 1056 middle school students from six middle schools in Sichuan, China, volunteered to complete questionnaires comprising the Physical Activity Rating Scale, Student Peer Relationship Scale, Social Anxiety Subscale of the Self-Consciousness Scale, and Short (9-Item) Dispositional Flow Scales. Regression analysis indicated that physical exercise negatively influenced social anxiety through peer relationships (indirect effect = -0.04, 95% CI = [-0.067, -0.013]). In addition, a moderated regression analysis indicated that under high-flow experience, physical exercise suppresses social anxiety through positive effects on peer relationships (indirect effect = -0.04, 95% CI = [-0.087, -0.003]), and under low-flow experience, physical exercise exacerbates social anxiety through negative effects on peer relationships (indirect effect = 0.06, 95% CI = [0.016, 0.105]). Some practical implications have been discussed on the physical exercise intervention for suppressing social anxiety in middle school students.

RESUMEN

At present, the aging population is one of China's basic national concerns, and physical exercise offers endless potential to cope with it. However, the life expectancy of men in China is generally lower than that of women, and the health status of older men is more worrying. Could it be that differences in physical exercise cause the difference in life expectancy between older men and women? This study analyzes the exercise regimen of older men and women and its influence on their quality of life. Approximately 200 respondents aged over 60 were investigated using the SF-36 and exercise questionnaires. Our findings revealed the following: (1) The scores of seven dimensions of life quality of older men were significantly lower than those of older women (p < 0.001), but there was no significant difference only in physiological function (p > 0.05); (2) The exercise frequency and persistence of older men were significantly lower than those of older women (p < 0.001), but there was no significant difference in exercise time (p > 0.05); and (3) All eight indices of quality of life of older men were positively correlated with the four indices of exercise (0.250 < R < 0.597). Our study offered the following conclusions: (1) The health of older men who lack physical exercise is poor. From the perspective of healthy aging, older men are a vulnerable group that deserves more attention. (2) Within an appropriate range, the more older men participate in physical activity programs, the more conducive they are to improved health. (3) This study focuses on promoting physical exercise for older adults and suggests organizing them to participate in sports activities as an important measure to promote healthy aging in China.

RESUMEN

A novel and selective synthesis of polycyclic fused maleimides from easily available raw materials under metal-free conditions is presented. This cascade protocol involves self-condensation of cyclohexanones, followed by Diels-Alder reaction with maleimides, intramolecular dehydration, and selective dehydroaromatization in a one-pot fashion, affording maleimide-fused 9,10-phenanthrenes and their analogues in satisfactory yields. Notably, iodide reagents play a critical role in switching the selectivity toward full or partial dehydrogenation compounds.

RESUMEN

Background: Few studies have explored the mechanisms linking adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) to depression in medical students. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between ACEs and depression through the serial mediation effect of family functioning and insomnia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 368 medical students from university in Chengdu in 2021. The participants were asked to complete four self-report questionnaires, including ACEs scale, the family APGAR index, the ISI and PHQ-9. Singe and serial mediation analyses were conducted using structural equation modeling by Mplus 8.3. Results: ACEs had a significant direct effect on depression (ß = 0.438, p < 0.001) and through three significantly indirect pathways: (1) through family functioning (ß = 0.026, 95% CI: 0.007-0.060), accounting for 5.9% of the total effect; (2) through insomnia (ß = 0.103, 95% CI: 0.011-0.187), accounting for 23.5% of the total effect; and (3) through the serial mediators involving in family functioning and insomnia (ß = 0.038, 95% CI: 0.015-0.078), accounting for 8.7% of the total effect. The total indirect effect was 38.1%. Limitations: This cross-sectional study prevented us from establishing causality. Conclusion: This study highlights the role of family functioning and insomnia as serial mediators of the relationship between ACEs and depression. Findings help to elucidate the mechanism that underlines the pathway between ACEs and depression in medical students. These findings may indicate developing measures to strengthen family functioning and improve insomnia aiming to reduce depression in medical students with ACEs.

RESUMEN

Objective: This article aims to explore the potential categories of college students' sports behavior motivation and the differences between different family social classes on potential categories. Participants: In total, 1,092 college students were investigated in this study. Methods: This article used the "College Students' Sports Behavior Motivation Questionnaire" to survey 1,092 college students using the whole group sampling method. The potential profile analysis method was applied to classify the types of college students' sports behavior motivation and further analyze the characteristics of different family social classes and sports behavior motivation. Results: College students' sports behavior motivation types can be divided into the following four categories: "low motivation type" (0.82%), "healthy appearance type" (11.45%), "healthy fun type" (37.36%), and "high motivation type" (50.37%). The higher the family's social class, the more the sports behavior motivation of college students tends to be healthy appearance, health, fun, and high motivation. The lower the family social class, the more motivational sports behavior of college students tends to be low motivation. The better the perception of health, the higher the probability that college students belong to the high-motivation type. The fewer chronic diseases that college students have are associated with a healthy appearance and high motivation. Conclusion: There is a certain relationship between the type of college students' sports behavior motivation and their family social class. Therefore, in school physical education, we should open all kinds of sports activities according to college students' sports behavior motivation needs and focus on college students with lower family social class in order to intervene precisely on their motivation for sports behaviors, improve participation, and promote the overall health of college students.

RESUMEN

Stress is a risk factor for emotion and energy metabolism disorders. However, the neurocircuitry mechanisms for emotion initiation and glucose mobilization underlying stress responses are unclear. Here we demonstrate that photoactivation of Gad2+ projection from the anterior bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (aBNST) to the arcuate nucleus (ARC) induces anxiety-like behavior as well as acute hyperglycemia. Photoinhibition of the circuit is anxiolytic and blocks hyperglycemia induced by restraint stress. Pharmacogenetic inhibition of the ARCGad2+→raphe obscurus nucleus (ROb) and photoactivation of the aBNSTGad2+→ARC circuits simultaneously leads to significant hypoglycemia and anxiety-like behavior. Pharmacogenetic inhibition of the ARCGad2+→nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) whilst photoactivation of the aBNSTGad2+→ARC circuit only induces hyperglycemia. Our results reveal that the aBNSTGad2+→ARCGad2+→ROb circuit is recruited for the stress response of rapid glucose mobilization and the aBNSTGad2+→ARCGad2+→NTS circuit for behavioral symptoms of stress response. This study identifies a possible general strategy for neurocircuitry structural organization dealing with multiple organs involved in responses, with potential therapeutic targets for emotion and energy metabolism disorders underlying psychiatric disorders.

RESUMEN

(1) Background: To quantitatively analyze the content structure and psychological mechanism of Chinese college students' school sports policy attitude; (2) Methods: This paper uses the data of 2112 college students obtained from a national sample survey. We also use a theoretical model of school sports policy attitude empirically tested by the LISREL structural equation model method; (3) Results: ① Students' cognition of the content, implementation, effect, satisfaction, and policy behavior of school sports policies are important factors affecting the implementation of school sports policy. ② Cognition generates emotions and students' awareness of school sports policy. The higher the recognition of content, policy implementation, and policy effect, the higher their satisfaction with the school sports policy. ③ Emotion determines behavior. The greater the students' satisfaction with the school sports policy, the more willing they are to follow the school sports policy requirements and demonstrate positive behavior in line with its provisions. ④ The measurement model of the school sports policy attitude has good reliability and validity, and the theoretical hypothesis of the structural model is supported by the data that measures and explains the college students' attitudes toward school sports policy.

RESUMEN

Innate defensive responses, unlearned behaviors improving individuals' chances of survival, have been found to involve the dopamine (DA) system. In the superior colliculus (SC), known for its role in defensive behaviors to visual threats, neurons expressing dopaminergic receptors of type 1 (Drd1+) and of type 2 (Drd2+) have been identified. We hypothesized that SC neurons expressing dopaminergic receptors may play a role in promoting innate defensive responses. Optogenetic activation of SC Drd2+ neurons, but not Drd1+ neurons, triggered defensive behaviors. Chemogenetic inhibition of SC Drd2+ neurons decreased looming-induced defensive behaviors, as well as pretreatment with the pharmacological Drd2+ agonist quinpirole, suggesting an essential role of Drd2 receptors in the regulation of innate defensive behavior. Input and output viral tracing revealed SC Drd2+ neurons mainly receive moderate inputs from the locus coeruleus (LC). Our results suggest a sophisticated regulatory role of DA and its receptor system in innate defensive behavior.

RESUMEN

A novel strategy for the preparation of functional carbazoles through NaI-catalyzed formal [4 + 2] annulation of 2-(indol-3-yl)cyclohexanones and alkynes/alkenes has been developed. The present approach started from easily available raw materials and provided a variety of tetrahydrobenzo[c]carbazolones in satisfactory yields under metal- and solvent-free conditions. Furthermore, the products could be further transformed into structurally valuable carbazole-based conjugated derivatives.

RESUMEN

The central nervous system has evolved to coordinate the regulation of both the behavior response to the external environment and homeostasis of energy expenditure. Recent studies have indicated the dorsomedial ventromedial hypothalamus (dmVMH) as an important hub that regulates both innate behavior and energy homeostasis for coping stress. However, how dmVMH neurons control neuronal firing pattern to regulate chronic stress-induced anxiety and energy expenditure remains poorly understood. Here, we found enhanced neuronal activity in VMH after chronic stress, which is mainly induced by increased proportion of burst firing neurons. This enhancement of VMH burst firing is predominantly mediated by Cav3.1 expression. Optogenetically evoked burst firing of dmVMH neurons induced anxiety-like behavior, shifted the respiratory exchange ratio toward fat oxidation, and decreased food intake, while knockdown of Cav3.1 in the dmVMH had the opposite effects, suggested that Cav 3.1 as a crucial regulator. Interestingly, we found that fluoxetine (anxiolytics) could block the increase of Cav3.1 expression to inhibit the burst firing, and then rescued the anxiety-like behaviors and energy expenditure changes. Collectively, our study first revealed an important role of Cav3.1-driven bursting firing of dmVMH neurons in the control of anxiety-like behavior and energy expenditure, and provided potential therapeutic targets for treating the chronic stress-induced emotional malfunction and metabolism disorders.

RESUMEN

A mild two-step synthetic approach for the preparation of structurally valuable indolo[3',2':4,5]pyrrolo[3,2,1-kl]phenothiazines has been developed. In this work, cyclohexanone was used as the key bridge to connect the indole and phenothiazine frameworks to construct a structurally valuable indole-fused derivative. The present protocol achieved the cascade construction of multiple C-hetero bonds, affording a convenient approach access to hexacyclic-fused system that contained both indole and phenothiazine, two privileged skeletons.

RESUMEN

Environmental threats often trigger innate defensive responses in mammals. However, the gradual development of functional properties of these responses during the postnatal development stage remains unclear. Here, we report that looming stimulation in mice evoked flight behavior commencing at P14-16 and had fully developed by P20-24. The visual-evoked innate defensive response was not significantly altered by sensory deprivation at an early postnatal stage. Furthermore, the percentages of wide-field and horizontal cells in the superior colliculus were notably elevated at P20-24. Our findings define a developmental time window for the formation of the visual innate defense response during the early postnatal period and provide important insight into the underlying mechanism.
