INTRODUCTION: China is the largest tobacco consumer in the world, and tobacco poses a serious threat to the health of pregnant women. However, there are relatively few domestic studies on smoking during pregnancy and childbirth outcomes among pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of active and passive smoking on pregnant women and their pregnancy outcomes, providing evidence and recommendations for intervention measures. METHODS: This was a cohort study in Shanghai from April 2021 to September 2023. According to the smoking status of pregnant women, they were divided into three groups: active smokers, passive smokers and non-smokers. A self-designed questionnaire was utilized to conduct the survey, and their pregnancy outcomes were tracked and followed up. RESULTS: A total of 3446 pregnant women were included in this study, among which 2.1% were active smokers, 43.5% were passive smokers, and 54.4% were non-smokers. The average age of the pregnant women was 29.9 years, and 41.2% had a university degree or higher. The education level of active smokers and passive smokers was significantly lower than that of non-smokers (p<0.05).The average gestational age of non-smokers was 38.6 weeks, and the birth weight was 3283.2 g, which was higher than those of active smokers and passive smokers (p<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that passive smoking increased the likelihood of preterm birth (AOR=1.38; 95% CI: 1.05-1.81), low birth weight (AOR=1.53; 95% CI: 1.10-2.12), and intrauterine growth restriction (AOR=1.35; 95% CI: 1.02-1.79), while active smoking increased the likelihood of preterm birth (AOR=2.98; 95% CI: 1.50-5.90), low birth weight (AOR=4.29; 95% CI: 2.07-8.88), intrauterine growth restriction (AOR=2.70; 95% CI: 1.37-5.33) , and birth defects (AOR=2.66; 95% CI: 1.00-6.97). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings illustrate that active and passive smoking can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study provides data on the relationship between smoking during pregnancy and delivery outcomes among pregnant women. In the future, we need more effective strategies to protect pregnant women from the harm of tobacco.

The largemouth bass has become one of the economically fish in China, according to the latest China Fishery Statistical Yearbook. The farming scale is constantly increasing. Salidroside has been found in past studies to have oxidative stress reducing and immune boosting properties. In this study, the addition of six different levels of salidroside supplements were 0、40、80、120、160 and 200 mg/kg. A 56-day feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of salidroside on the intestinal health, immune parameters and intestinal microbiota composition of largemouth bass. Dietary addition of salidroside significantly affected the Keap-1ß/Nrf-2 pathway as well as significantly increased antioxidant enzyme activities resulting in a significant increase in antioxidant capacity of largemouth bass. Dietary SLR significantly reduced feed coefficients. The genes related to tight junction proteins (Occludin, ZO-1, Claudin-4, Claudin-5) were found to be significantly upregulated in the diet supplemented with salidroside, indicating that salidroside can improve the intestinal barrier function (p < 0.05). The dietary administration of salidroside was found to significantly reduce the transcription levels of intestinal tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) (p < 0.05). Furthermore, salidroside was observed to reduce the transcription levels of intestinal apoptosis factor Bcl-2 associated death promoter (BAD) and recombinant Tumor Protein p53 (P53) (p < 0.05). Concomitantly, the beneficial bacteria, Fusobacteriota and Cetobacterium, was significantly increased in the SLR12 group, while that of pathogenic bacteria, Proteobacteria, was significantly decreased (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the medium-sized largemouth bass optimal dosage of salidroside in the diet is 120mg/kg-1.

Long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation has shown potential benefits in the prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD); however, the impact of omega-3 fatty acid levels on CHD risk remains a subject of debate. Here, we aimed to investigate the association between n-3 PUFA levels and the risk of CHD, with particular reference to the subtypes of n-3 PUFA. METHODS: Prospective studies and retrospective case-control studies analyzing n-3 PUFA levels in CHD, published up to 30 July 2022, were selected. A random effects meta-analysis was used for pooled assessment, with relative risks (RRs) expressed as 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and standardized mean differences expressed as weight mean differences (WMDs). Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were conducted to assess the impact of n-3 PUFA exposure interval on the CHD subtype variables of the study. RESULTS: We included 20 prospective studies (cohort and nested case-control) and 16 retrospective case-control studies, in which n-3 PUFAs were measured. Higher levels of n-3 PUFAs (ALA, EPA, DPA, DHA, EPA + DHA, total n-3 PUFAs) were associated with a reduced risk of CHD, with RRs (95% CI) of 0.89 (0.81, 0.98), 0.83 (0.72, 0.96); 0.80 (0.67,0.95), 0.75 (0.64, 0.87), 0.83 (0.73, 0.95), and 0.80 (0.70, 0.93), respectively, p < 0.05. CHD patients had significantly lower n-3 PUFA levels compared to healthy controls (p < 0.05). In the subgroup analysis, a significant inverse trend was found for both fatal CHD and non-fatal CHD with n-3 PUFA (EPA + DHA) levels. Also, the link between n-3 PUFA levels in erythrocytes with total CHD was generally stronger than other lipid pools. CONCLUSIONS: n-3 PUFAs are significantly related to CHD risk, and these findings support the beneficial effects of n-3 PUFAs on CHD.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide, ranking as the third most malignant. The incidence of CRC has been increasing with time, and it is reported that Westernized diet and lifestyle play a significant role in its higher incidence and rapid progression. The intake of high amounts of omega-6 (n - 6) PUFAs and low levels of omega-3 (n - 3) PUFAs has an important role in chronic inflammation and cancer progression, which could be associated with the increase in CRC prevalence. Oxylipins generated from PUFAs are bioactive lipid mediators and have various functions, especially in inflammation and proliferation. Carcinogenesis is often a consequence of chronic inflammation, and evidence has shown the particular involvement of n - 6 PUFA arachidonic acid-derived oxylipins in CRC, which is further described in this review. A deeper understanding of the role and metabolism of PUFAs by their modifying enzymes, their pathways, and the corresponding oxylipins may allow us to identify new approaches to employ oxylipin-associated immunomodulation to enhance immunotherapy in cancer. This paper summarizes oxylipins identified in the context of the initiation, development, and metastasis of CRC. We further explore CRC chemo-prevention strategies that involve oxylipins as potential therapeutics.

Metasurfaces, composed by metals and dielectrics in periodical order with subwavelength pitches, are of great importance for their unique ability to abruptly manipulate optical fields. So far, all the reported metasurfaces are constructed by thermally deposited metals and dielectric films, based on semiconductor processes which are expensive and time-consuming. Inspired by the outstanding dry etch property of spin-on-carbon (SOC) as the interlayer material in CMOS technology, this paper proposes to utilize the SOC as the dielectric layer in a chessboard metasurface with dual layer of gold to form an array of local surface plasmonic resonators (localized surface plasmon resonance). Finite difference and time domain (FDTD) method is used to investigate the spectral characteristics in reflectance of the metasurface in both visible and short wavelengths of infrared light. Electron beam lithography is applied to generate the nanoscale chessboard pattern on ZEP520A, followed by a conventional oxygen-based plasma etch to form high aspect ratio nanopillar arrays in SOC with the feature width under 50 nm, and ended by a thermal deposition of gold to form self-aligned dual layer local surface plasmonic resonators (LSPRs). The measured reflectance spectra agree with the simulated. A wealth of optical properties, such as coupling induced modulations of spectra by LSPRs, are revealed and analyzed. These special modes result in tunable structural colors and wavelength-selective antireflection ability. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that SOC is applied in the construction of metasurfaces, which has great potential for next generation nanophotonic devices.

Calcium overload, a notable instigator of acute pancreatitis (AP), induces oxidative stress and an inflammatory cascade, subsequently activating both endogenous and exogenous apoptotic pathways. However, there is currently lack of available pharmaceutical interventions to alleviate AP by addressing calcium overload. In the present study, the potential clinical application of liposome nanoparticles (LNs) loaded with 1,2­bis(2­aminophenoxy)ethane­N,N,N',N'­tetraacetic acid tetrakis (acetoxymethyl ester) (BAPTA­AM), a cell­permeant calcium chelator, was investigated as a therapeutic approach for the management of AP. To establish the experimental models in vitro, AR42J cells were exposed to high glucose/sodium oleate (HGO) to induce necrosis, and in vivo, intra­ductal taurocholate (TC) infusion was used to induce AP. The findings of the present study indicated that the use of BAPTA­AM­loaded LN (BLN) effectively and rapidly eliminated excessive Ca2+ and reactive oxygen species, suppressed mononuclear macrophage activation and the release of inflammatory cytokines, and mitigated pancreatic acinar cell apoptosis and necrosis induced by HGO. Furthermore, the systemic administration of BLN demonstrated promising therapeutic potential in the rat model of AP. Notably, BLN significantly enhanced the survival rates of rats subjected to the TC challenge, increasing from 37.5 to 75%. This improvement was attributed to the restoration of pancreatic function, as indicated by improved blood biochemistry indices and alleviation of pancreatic lesions. The potential therapeutic efficacy of BLN in rescuing patients with AP is likely attributed to its capacity to inhibit oxidative stress, prevent premature activation of zymogens and downregulate the expression of TNF­α, IL­6 and cathepsin B. Thus, BLN demonstrated promising value as a novel therapeutic approach for promptly alleviating the burden of intracellular Ca2+ overload in patients with AP.

OBJECTIVE: Childhood trauma (CT) is a major environmental risk factor for an adverse course and treatment outcome of major depressive disorder (MDD). Evidence suggests that an altered regional brain activity may play a crucial role in the relationship between CT and MDD. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between CT, regional brain activity, and depression severity. METHODS: In this study, 96 patients with MDD and 82 healthy controls (HCs) participated. Regional brain activity was measured using the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo). These measures were compared between the MDD and HC groups, and the values of different brain regions were extracted as moderators. RESULTS: Increased fALFF and ReHo values were observed in the left middle temporal gyrus in the MDD group compared with the HC group (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the fALFF and ReHo values moderated the positive correlation between the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) score, 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) total score, and retardation factor score in the MDD group (all, p < 0.05). Finally, as the fALFF and ReHo values increased, the positive correlations between CTQ, HAMD-17 total, and retardation dimension scores became stronger. CONCLUSION: Our study highlighted the crucial role of altered brain function in connecting childhood maltreatment with depressive symptoms. Our findings indicate that an altered regional brain activity could explain the potential neurobiological mechanisms of MDD symptoms, offering the opportunity to function as a powerful diagnostic biomarker.

BACKGROUND: There have been many studies on the benefits of repeated ketamine infusions on patients' depression but few on the impact of ketamine on patients' long-term quality of life (QoL). This study investigated long-term QoL in individuals with depression, both anxious and nonanxious. METHODS: A total of 107 individuals with a diagnosis of depression were included in the study. The patients were evaluated on Days 0, 13 and 26 and Months 6 and 9, and they received six ketamine infusions over the course of two weeks. The World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) Scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) Scale were used to measure depressive symptoms and QoL. Linear mixed models were used to evaluate depressive symptoms and QoL during ketamine treatment. RESULTS: A total of 67.2 % of patients were diagnosed with anxious depression. In the long term, there were no significant differences in the time-by-group interactions for general QoL (F = 0.510; P = 0.676), physical QoL (F = 2.092; P = 0.102), psychological QoL (F = 0.102; P = 0.959), social QoL (F = 2.180; P = 0.091), or environmental QoL (F = 1.849; P = 0.139) between the two groups. LIMITATIONS: The main limitation of this study is its open-label design. CONCLUSION: The improvement in depression symptoms and QoL following ketamine treatment was not impacted by the presence or absence of anxiety in patients who were depressed prior to treatment. Only occasionally did depressed individuals with anxiety experience a worsening of their quality of life compared to those without anxiety.

Introduction: We aimed to estimate the effect of mindfulness therapy on mental health. Methods: Two researchers searched 12 databases to identify relevant trials that were published from 1 January 2018 to 1 May 2023. We performed a meta-analysis to determine the effect of mindfulness therapy on depression, which was measured by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS); anxiety, which was measured by the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), PROMIS, and DASS, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7); stress, which was measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), DASS, and GAD-7; mindfulness, which was measured by the GAD-7, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Short Form-12 Mental Component Score (SF-12 MCS) and Short Form-12 Physical Component Score (SF-12 PCS); and sleep quality, which was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). After screening studies based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 1,824 participants were ultimately included. Results: All these studies demonstrated positive effects of mindfulness therapy on depression (SMD = -0.33, 95% CI: [-0.44, -0.22], p < 0.00001, I2 = 29%), anxiety (SMD = -0.35, 95% CI: [-0.46, -0.25], p < 0.00001, I2 = 40%), stress (SMD = -0.39, 95% CI: [-0.48, -0.29], p < 0.00001, I2 = 69%) and sleep quality scores (SMD = -0.81, 95% CI: [-1.54, -0.09], p = 0.03, I2 = 0%). However, there was no significant difference in mindfulness (SMD = -0.12, 95% CI: [-0.36, -0.12], p = 0.34, I2 = 34%) between the mindfulness therapy group and the control group. Discussion: In future studies, it is necessary to consider the investigation on whether the strategies of improving the mindfulness therapy in adherence and fidelity can work on the improvement of the outcomes in mental health. BACKGROUND: Cleaning symbioses are captivating interspecific interactions in which a cleaner fish removes ectoparasites from its client, contributing to the health and diversity of natural fish communities and aquaculture systems. However, the genetic signatures underlying this specialized behaviour remain poorly explored. To shed light on this, we generated a high-quality chromosome-scale genome of the bluestreak cleaner wrasse Labroides dimidiatus, a dedicated cleaner with cleaning as primary feeding mechanism throughout its life. RESULTS: Compared with facultative and non-cleaner wrasses, L. dimidiatus was found with notable contractions in olfactory receptors implying their limited importance in dedicated cleaning. Instead, given its distinct tactile pre-conflict strategies, L. dimidiatus may rely more heavily on touch sensory perception, with heightened gene expression in the brain in anticipation of cleaning. Additionally, a reduction in NLR family CARD domain-containing protein 3 might enhance innate immunity of L. dimidiatus, probably assisting to reduce the impacts from parasite infections. In addition, convergent substitutions for a taste receptor and bone development genes across cleaners (L. dimidiatus and facultative cleaners) may provide them with evolved food discrimination abilities and jaw morphology that differentiate them from non-cleaners. Moreover, L. dimidiatus may exhibit specialized neural signal transductions for cleaning, as evidenced by positive selection in genes related to the glutamatergic synapse pathway. Interestingly, numerous glutamate receptors also demonstrated significantly higher expression in L. dimidiatus not engaged in cleaning, as compared to those involved in cleaning. Besides, apparent contractions in L. dimidiatus for protocadherins, which are responsible for neuronal development, may further promote specialized neural signal transductions in this species. CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals that L. dimidiatus harbours substantial losses in specific gene families, convergent evolutions across cleaners and a large-scale high gene expression in preparation for cleaning, allowing for adaptation to the dedicated cleaning behaviour.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) participate in the rapid inhibition and clearance of pathogens during infection; however, the molecular regulation of NET formation remains poorly understood. In the current study, we found that inhibition of the wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1) significantly suppressed the activity of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and accelerated abscess healing in S. aureus-induced abscess model mice by enhancing NET formation. A Wip1 inhibitor significantly enhanced NET formation in mouse and human neutrophils in vitro. High-resolution mass spectrometry and biochemical assays demonstrated that Coro1a is a substrate of Wip1. Further experiments also revealed that Wip1 preferentially and directly interacts with phosphorylated Coro1a than compared to unphosphorylated inactivated Coro1a. The phosphorylated Ser426 site of Coro1a and the 28-90 aa domain of Wip1 are essential for the direct interaction of Coro1a and Wip1 and for Wip1 dephosphorylation of p-Coro1a Ser426. Wip1 deletion or inhibition in neutrophils significantly upregulated the phosphorylation of Coro1a-Ser426, which activated phospholipase C and subsequently the calcium pathway, the latter of which promoted NET formation after infection or lipopolysaccharide stimulation. This study revealed Coro1a to be a novel substrate of Wip1 and showed that Wip1 is a negative regulator of NET formation during infection. These results support the potential application of Wip1 inhibitors to treat bacterial infections.

Background: Sepsis is a complex condition involving multiorgan failure, resulting from the hosts' deleterious systemic immune response to infection. It is characterized by high mortality, with limited effective detection and treatment options. Dysregulated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is directly involved in the pathophysiology of immune-mediated diseases. Methods: Clinical samples were obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus datasets (i.e., GSE65682, GSE54514, and GSE95233) to perform the differential analysis in this study. A weighted gene co-expression network analysis algorithm combining multiple machine learning algorithms was used to identify the diagnostic biomarkers for sepsis. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment, and the single-sample gene set enrichment analysis algorithm were used to analyze immune infiltration characteristics in sepsis. PCR analysis and western blotting were used to demonstrate the potential role of TXN in sepsis. Results: Four ERRGs, namely SET, LPIN1, TXN, and CD74, have been identified as characteristic diagnostic biomarkers for sepsis. Immune infiltration has been repeatedly proved to play a vital role both in sepsis and ER. Subsequently, the immune infiltration characteristics result indicated that the development of sepsis is mediated by immune-related function, as four diagnostic biomarkers were strongly associated with the immune infiltration landscape of sepsis. The biological experiments in vitro and vivo demonstrate TXN is emerging as crucial player in maintaining ER homeostasis in sepsis. Conclusion: Our research identified novel potential biomarkers for sepsis diagnosis, which point toward a potential strategy for the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis.

First-line anti-tuberculosis (TB) drugs are commonly used to treat TB worldwide, leading to more contaminated wastewater being widely discharged into aquatic environments. However, studies of mixture interactions of anti-TB drugs and their residues in aquatic environments are scarce. This study aimed to determine the toxic interactions of anti-TB drugs-isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RMP), and ethambutol (EMB)-in binary and ternary mixtures on Daphnia magna and used the epidemiology of TB history to construct epidemiology-based wastewater monitoring for assessing the environmental release of residues and related ecological risks. The acute immobilization of median effect concentrations (EC50) was 25.6 mg L-1 for INH, 80.9 mg L-1 for RMP, and 188.8 mg L-1 for EMB, as toxic units (TUs) for assessing mixture toxicity. The ternary mixture exhibited the lowest TUs at 50 % effects with 1.12, followed by 1.28 for RMP + EMB, 1.54 for INH + RMP, and 1.93 for INH + EMB, indicating antagonistic interactions. Nevertheless, the combination index (CBI) was used to examine the mixture toxicity in response to immobilization, revealing that the ternary mixture of CBI ranged from 1.01 to 1.08, tending to have a nearly additive effect when suffering >50 % effect (at high concentration levels). The forecasted environmentally relevant concentrations of anti-TB drugs have been on downward trends with ng L-1 level from 2020 to 2030 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Although ecotoxicological risks from the wastewater treatment plant and receiving water in the field were slightly greater than the prediction from epidemiology-based wastewater monitoring, there were no risk concerns. Here, we achieved the establishment of evidence that anti-TB drug mixtures' interaction and epidemiological-based monitoring support a systematic approach, resolving the absence of the mixture toxicity information for anti-TB mixture risk assessment in aquatic environments.

Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) play an important role in modern optical applications such as spectral and imaging systems, but it is challenging to balance the diffraction efficiency with the working bandwidth. The core issue is controlling the broadband dispersion of all phase units to achieve achromatic 2π-phase modulation in the broadband domain. Here, we demonstrate broadband DOEs utilizing multilayer subwavelength structures with different materials, making it possible to freely control the phase and phase dispersion of the structural units on a much larger scale than monolayer structures. The desired dispersion-control abilities arose due to a dispersion-cooperation mechanism and vertical mode-coupling effects between the top and bottom layers. An infrared design comprised of two vertically concatenated T i O 2 and Si nanoantennas separated by a S i O 2 dielectric spacer layer was demonstrated. It showed an average efficiency of over 70% in the three-octave bandwidth. This work shows enormous value for broadband optical systems with DOEs such as spectral imaging and augmented reality.

With fast advances in enhancing the focusing/imaging resolution of Fresnel zone plate lenses toward sub-10 nm, low diffraction efficiency in connection with their rectangular zone shape still remains a big issue in both soft and hard X-ray microscopy. In hard X-ray optics, encouraging progress has recently been reported in our earlier attempts of high focusing efficiency by 3D kinoform shaped metallic zone plates, formed by greyscale electron beam lithography. This paper addresses our efforts towards high focusing/imaging efficiency by developing a novel dielectric kinoform zone plate lens for soft X-rays. The effects of the zone materials and zone shapes on the focusing/imaging quality were first theoretically investigated by a modified thin-grating-approximation method, revealing superior efficiencies of dielectric kinoform zone plates over rectangular ones in metals. Optical characterizations of replicated dielectric kinoform zone plates by greyscale electron beam lithography demonstrate a focusing efficiency of 15.5% with a resolution of 110 nm in the water window of X-rays. Apart from high efficiency, the novel kinoform zone plate lenses developed in this work exhibit significant advantages over conventional zone plates, i.e. simplified process, low cost and no need for a beamstop.

X-ray microscope as an important nanoprobing tool plays a prevailing role in nano-inspections of materials. Despite the fast advances of high resolution focusing/imaging reported, the efficiency of existing high-resolution zone plates is mostly around 5% in soft x-ray and rapidly goes down to 1%-2% when the resolution approaches 10 nm. It is well known that the rectangular zone shape, beamstop, limited height/width ratios, material absorption of light and structural defects are likely responsible for the limited efficiency. Although zone plates with Kinoform profile are supposed to be efficient, progress for achieving both high resolution (<30 nm) and high efficiency (>5%) have hardly been addressed in soft x-ray. In this work, we propose a compound Kinoform/Fresnel zone plate (CKZP) by combing a dielectric Kinoform zone plate with a 15 nm resolution zone plate. Greyscale electron beam lithography was applied to form the 3D Kinoform zone plate and atomic layer deposition was carried out to form the binary zone plate. Optical characterizations demonstrated 15 nm resolution focusing/imaging with over 7.8% efficiency in soft x-ray. The origin of the efficiency improvement behind the proposed compound lens is theoretically analyzed and discussed.

The risk of cancer and dementia increases with age, raising complex questions about whether it is appropriate to continue cancer treatment in older patients. There is emerging research suggesting the association between cancer and dementia. However, the mechanistic underpinnings are still under investigation. Progress has already been made toward understanding the cognitive effects associated with cancer therapy. Such associations raise awareness about the need to establish better prevention methods and early screening in clinical practice. Additionally, recent studies have suggested possible therapeutic strategies for better preserving cognitive function and reducing the risk for dementia before patients start cancer treatment. We review the current literature and summarize the incidence and mechanisms of cognitive impairment in patients with lung cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, gastric cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and brain tumor/brain metastasis following different kinds of therapies. Possible risk factors are suggested to identify the early onset of cognitive changes in cancer patients and provide more insight into the pathophysiological process of dementia.

To discover new succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHI) fungicides, a series of amide derivatives containing a pyrrolidine moiety were designed and synthesized, and their antifungal activities were evaluated against Monilinia fructicola (M. fructicola), Rhizoctonia solani (R. solani), Fusarium graminearum schw (F. graminearum), Fusarium oxysporum (F. oxysporum), and Phytophthora infestans (P. infestans). Some compounds showed excellent antifungal activities against the five fungi. Among them, compound 6 showed broad-spectrum inhibitory activities. The EC50 of compound 6 against M. fructicola, R. solani, F. graminearum, F. oxysporum, and P. infestans were 2.13, 14.42, 1.69, 27.79, and 27.12 mg/L, respectively. In addition, compound 6 can effectively inhibit the spore germination of M. fructicola and has moderate damage to the cell membrane. Compound 6 can effectively inhibit succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) of M. fructicola, and can significantly increase the expression levels of SDHC and SDHD. Compound 6 can be used as a lead structure for developing new SDH inhibitors.
