AIMS: A therapeutic strategy for chronic heart failure (HF) is to lower resting heart rate (HR). Ivabradine is a well-known HR-lowering agent, but limited prospective data exist regarding its use in Chinese patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivabradine in Chinese patients with chronic HF. METHODS AND RESULTS: This multicentre, single-arm, prospective, observational study enrolled Chinese patients with chronic HF. The primary outcome was change from baseline in HR at 1 and 6 months, measured by pulse counting. Effectiveness was also evaluated using laboratory tests, the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) clinical summary score (CSS) and overall summary score (OSS), and New York Heart Association (NYHA) class. Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were assessed. A post hoc analysis examined the effectiveness and safety of ivabradine combined with an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) or beta-blocker. A total of 1003 patients were enrolled [mean age 54.4 ± 15.0 years, 773 male (77.1%), mean baseline HR 88.5 ± 11.3 b.p.m., mean blood pressure 115.7/74.4 ± 17.2/12.3 mmHg, mean left ventricular ejection fraction 30.9 ± 7.6%, NYHA Classes III and IV in 48.8% and 22.0% of patients, respectively]. HR decreased by a mean of 12.9 and 16.1 b.p.m. after 1 and 6 months, respectively (both P < 0.001). At Month 6, improvements in the KCCQ CSS and OSS of ≥5 points were observed in 72.1% and 74.1% of patients, respectively (both P < 0.001). Left ventricular ejection fraction increased by 12.1 ± 11.6 (P < 0.001), and 66.7% of patients showed improvement in NYHA class (P < 0.001). At Month 6, the overall proportion of patients in NYHA Classes III and IV was reduced to 13.5% and 2.1%, respectively. Serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro-BNP changed by -331.9 ng/L (-1238.6, -134.0) and -1113.8 ng/L (-2202.0, -297.2), respectively (P < 0.001). HR reductions and improvements in NYHA and KCCQ scores with ivabradine were similar with and without use of ARNIs or beta-blockers. Of 498 TEAEs in 296 patients (29.5%), 73 TEAEs in 55 patients (5.5%) were considered related to ivabradine [most frequent sinus bradycardia (n = 7) and photopsia (n = 7)]. TEAEs were reported in a similar number of patients in ARNI and beta-blocker subgroups (21.9-35.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Ivabradine treatment reduced HR and improved cardiac function and health-related quality of life in Chinese patients with chronic HF. Benefits were seen irrespective of whether or not patients were also taking ARNIs or beta-blockers. Treatment was well tolerated with a similar profile to previous ivabradine studies.

Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA) is a rare X-linked recessive neurodegenerative disorder caused by the excessive expansion of cytosine-adenine-guanine repeat sequences in the androgen receptor gene encoded on the Xq11-12 chromosome. SBMA primarily affects adult males and is characterized by weakness and atrophy of the proximal limb muscles, often involving the bulbar muscles. In addition to neuromuscular deficits, nonneuronal symptoms such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and liver dysfunction are often observed in patients with SBMA. Previous studies have suggested that SBMA patients have been diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), while gene detection is lacked. Moreover, according to current reports, SBMA patients can carry Brugada syndrome or HCM respectively, while three kinds of diseases have not been reported to exist in the same patient. Here, we report the first case of a male diagnosed with SBMA combined with HCM and two types of Brugada-pattern electrocardiographic changes, with a heterozygous missense mutation in the TTN gene.

The global occurrence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in aquatic systems has raised concerns about their adverse effects on ecosystems and human health. Adsorption is a promising technique for the remediation of PFAS, yet effective adsorbents with rapid uptake kinetics and high adsorption capacity are still in high demand, and molecular-level understanding of the interfacial adsorption mechanisms is lacking. In this study, we developed a superior layered rare-earth hydroxide (LRH) adsorbent, ultrathin Y2(OH)4.86Cl1.44·1·07H2O (namely YOHCl) nanosheets, to achieve the effective removal of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). YOHCl nanosheets exhibited ultra-high adsorption capacity toward PFOA (up to 957.1 mg/g), which is 1.9 times and 9.3 times higher than the state-of-the-art layered double hydroxides (MgAl-LDH) and benchmark granular activated carbon (GAC) under the same conditions, respectively. Furthermore, YOHCl nanosheets pose stable performance on the removal of PFOA under various water matrices with robust reusability. We also developed YOHCl-based continuous-flow column, demonstrating its promise in simultaneously removing multiple PFAS with wide range of chain lengths at environmentally relevant concentrations. With the molecular-level investigations, we have revealed that multi-mechanism, including ion exchange, electrostatic attraction and bidentate/bridging coordination, contributed to the strong PFOA-YOHCl affinity, leading to the ultra-high adsorption capacity of PFOA. We have provided emerging LRHs-based adsorbents for the effective remediation of PFAS with molecular-level insights on the interfacial mechanisms.

OBJECTIVES: In this study, we explored how adiponectin mediated urotensin II (UII)|-induced tumor necrosis factor-|α (TNF-|α) and α|-smooth muscle actin (α|-SMA) expression and ensuing intracellular signaling pathways in adventitial fibroblasts (AFs). METHODS: Growth-arrested AFs and rat tunica adventitia of vessels were incubated with UII and inhibitors of signal transduction pathways for 1|‒|24 h. The cells were then harvested for TNF-α receptor (TNF-|α-R) messenger RNA (mRNA) and TNF-|α protein expression determination by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Adiponectin and adiponectin receptor (adipoR) expression was measured by RT-PCR, quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), immunohistochemical analysis, and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) cell proliferation experiments. We then quantified TNF-α and α-SMA mRNA and protein expression levels by qPCR and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. RNA interference (RNAi) was used to explore the function of the adipoR genes. To investigate the signaling pathway, we applied western blotting (WB) to examine phosphorylation of adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)|-activated protein kinase (AMPK). In vivo, an adiponectin (APN)|-knockout (APN-KO) mouse model mimicking adventitial inflammation was generated to measure TNF-α and α|-SMA expression by application of qPCR and IF, with the goal of gaining a comprehensive atlas of adiponectin in vascular remodeling. RESULTS: In both cells and tissues, UII promoted TNF-α protein and TNF-α-R secretion in a dose- and time-dependent manner via Rho/protein kinase C (PKC) pathway. We detected marked expression of adipoR1, T-cadherin, and calreticulin as well as a moderate presence of adipoR2 in AFs, while no adiponectin was observed. Globular adiponectin (gAd) fostered the growth of AFs, and acted in concert with UII to induce α-SMA and TNF-α through the adipoR1/T-cadherin/calreticulin/AMPK pathway. In AFs, gAd and UII synergistically induced AMPK phosphorylation. In the adventitial inflammation model, APN deficiency up-regulated the expression of α-SMA, UII receptor (UT), and UII while inhibiting TNF-|α expression. CONCLUSIONS: From the results of our study, we can speculate that UII induces TNF|-|α protein and TNF-|α|-R secretion in AFs and rat tunica adventitia of vessels via the Rho and PKC signal transduction pathways. Thus, it is plausible that adiponectin is a major player in adventitial progression and could serve as a novel therapeutic target for cardiovascular disease administration.

Lipid metabolism disorders are recognized to be one of the most frequent complications of renal transplantation, while dyslipidemia and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are strong risk factors for arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) are novel lipid-lowering drugs, the safety and efficacy of which are yet to be confirmed in transplanted patients. There have been several small-sample studies using PCSK9i in patients after heart transplantation, while fewer cases use PCSK9i after kidney transplantation. We report a case of a renal transplant recipient complicated with hepatitis B treated with PCSK9i, which achieved a remarkable lipid-lowering efficacy, and no significant adverse effects were found during the follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Treatment decisions in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery are based on clinical assessment. The Revised Cardiac Risk Index (RCRI) is pragmatic and widely used but has only moderate discrimination. We aimed to test the efficacy of the CHA2DS2-VASc score and the combination of CHA2DS2-VASc and RCRI to predict perioperative risks for non-cardiac surgery. METHODS: This pre-specified analysis was performed in a retrospective cohort undergoing intra-abdominal surgery in our center from July 1st, 2007 to June 30th, 2008. The possible association between the baseline characteristics (as defined by CHA2DS2-VASc and RCRI) and the primary outcome of composite perioperative cardiac complications (myocardial infarction, cardiac ischemia, heart failure, arrhythmia, stroke, and/or death) and secondary outcomes of individual endpoints were explored using multivariate Logistic regression. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (C-statistic) was used for RCRI, CHA2DS2-VASc, and the combined models, and the net reclassification improvement (NRI) was calculated to assess the additional discriminative ability. RESULTS: Of the 1079 patients (age 57.5 ± 17.0 years), 460 (42.6%) were women. A total of 83 patients (7.7%) reached the primary endpoint. Secondary outcomes included 52 cardiac ischemic events, 40 myocardial infarction, 20 atrial fibrillation, 18 heart failure, four strokes, and 30 deaths. The endpoint events increased with the RCRI and CHA2DS2-VASc grade elevated (P < 0.05 for trend). The RCRI showed a moderate predictive ability with a C-statistics of 0.668 (95%CI 0.610-0.725) for the composite cardiac outcome. The C-statistics for the CHA2DS2-VASc was 0.765 (95% CI 0.709-0.820), indicating better performance than the RCRI (p = 0.011). Adding the CHA2DS2-VASc to the RCRI further increased the C-statistic to 0.774(95%CI 0.719-0.829), improved sensitivity, negative predictive value, and enhanced reclassification in reference to RCRI. Similar performance of the combined scores was demonstrated in the analysis of individual secondary endpoints. The best cut-off of a total of 4 scores was suggested for the combined CHA2DS2-VASc and RCRI in the prediction of the perioperative cardiac outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: The CHA2DS2-VASc score significantly enhanced risk assessment for the composite perioperative cardiovascular outcome in comparison to traditional RCRI risk stratification. Incorporation of CHA2DS2-VASc scores into clinical-decision making to improve perioperative management in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery warrants consideration.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) has raised significant health concerns due to its high ecotoxicological risks and difficulties in removal by conventional water treatment process. Previous studies have demonstrated that photocatalytic techniques exhibit great potential in PFOA removal. However, the underlying mechanism of the degradation process has not been fully understood, particularly the contribution of the facet effects of catalysts. In this study, a combination of experiments and first-principles calculations were conducted to shed light on the facet-dependence of the interfacial interactions and oxidation during the PFOA degradation process. We proved that the interfacial interaction was essential in initiating the hole-dominated degradation process, and the {110}R3̅c facet of hexagonal In2O3 features the strongest interaction with PFOA. The overall defluorination rate was mainly controlled by the hole-dominated oxidation processes under UV irradiation, which were further attributed to the electronic structures and reaction site distributions of different In2O3 surfaces. This study provides molecular-level insights on the facet-dependent PFOA catalytic degradation process, which can guide the rational design of photocatalysts to achieve superior decontamination efficiency.

OBJECTIVE: Perioperative cardiovascular events constitute the majority of complications in noncardiac surgery. Older and female patients have been less investigated. We aimed to evaluate differences in perioperative cardiovascular outcomes by age and sex. METHODS: We enrolled 1079 patients (57.5 ± 17.0 years, 42.6% women) undergoing intra-abdominal surgery from July 2007 to June 2008 and compared occurrence of perioperative cardiac events by age (≥65 vs. <65 years) and sex. Multivariable logistic regression was used to investigate associations between age, sex, and outcomes. RESULTS: Age ≥65 years was associated with perioperative myocardial infarction (MI) (odds ratio [OR] 2.9, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.3-6.6) and total cardiovascular events (OR 2.4, 95% CI: 1.3-4.2). Age ≥65 years was associated with higher perioperative MI risks in men (OR 4.7, 95% CI: 1.3-17.6) than in women (OR 3.1, 95% CI: 1.2-8.3). Advanced age was associated with heart failure in women (OR 13.9, 95% CI: 1.7-110.5). Female sex was a risk factor for heart failure in elderly patients (OR 4.2, 95% CI: 1.1-15.7). CONCLUSIONS: Advanced age appeared to be associated with increased perioperative cardiac risk but differed by sex. Tailored strategies should be considered with respect to the patient's sex.

Apoptosis induced by oxidative stress is one of the most important cardiomyocytes losses during ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Catestatin (CST) has been demonstrated to have the anti-oxidative capacity in vitro. We hypothesized that CST intervention could reduce apoptosis of cardiomyocytes induced by oxidative stress in I/R. In Langendorff-perfused rat heart global I/R model, CST was introduced at the reperfusion stage. In comparison to the control group, CST led to preservation on activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase, improvement of hemodynamics, and reduced infarction area in reperfused myocardium. The protection of CST was also shown by less apoptotic cardiomyocytes in TUNEL staining, less caspase-3 activation, and increased phosphorylation of protein kinase B (PKB/Akt) in Western blot. To further demonstrate the benefits of CST and explore the possible underlying mechanism, H2O2-challenged primary-cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were used to simulate the oxidative-stressed scenario. CST incubation with the H2O2-challenged cardiomyocytes led to reduction of apoptosis, which was demonstrated by less Hoechst 33342 positive staining of nuclei, less caspase-3 activation, and DNA fragmentation. The effect of CST was abrogated by pretreatment of the cardiomyocytes with the PI3K inhibitor LY294002. Furthermore, Akt activation and the anti-apoptosis effect of CST were abolished by pretreatment of the cardiomyocytes with ß2 receptor inhibitor ICI118551. Thus, the salvage of oxidative-stress-induced apoptotic cardiomyocytes in I/R by CST might involve activation ß2 receptor and regulation of PI3K/Akt signaling in reperfusion injury salvage kinase (RISK) pathway.

Although long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been suggested to play important roles in the pathogenesis of diseases, atherosclerosis-related lncRNAs and circRNAs remain rarely reported. This study aimed to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis based on the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory hypothesis of lncRNAs and circRNAs. The expression profiles of circRNAs, lncRNAs, and mRNAs in human THP-1 macrophages treated with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (an in vitro atherosclerosis model), or not, were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database under accession numbers GSE107522, GSE54666, and GSE54039, respectively. The present study identified 29 differentially expressed circRNAs in GSE107522, 544 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in GSE54666, and 502 DEGs and 231 differentially expressed lncRNAs in GSE54039 datasets by using the Linear Models for Microarray Data method. Eight DEGs were found to be shared and expressed with the consistent trend in GSE54666 and GSE54039 datasets. Two of them (ASPH, aspartate beta-hydroxylase; and PDE3B, phosphodiesterase 3B) were suggested to be crucial based on functional enrichment, protein-protein interaction, and ceRNA network analyses. ASPH, through interaction with CACNA2D4 (calcium voltage-gated channel auxiliary subunit alpha2delta 4), may be associated with atherosclerosis by regulating the cellular response to calcium ion; and PDE3B may exert roles in negative regulation of angiogenesis through cross talk with ELMO1 (engulfment and cell motility 1). Furthermore, the expression of ASPH and PDE3B may be regulated by hsa_circ_0028198/hsa_circ_0092317/XIST-miR-543; PDE3B expression may be also modulated by hsa_circ_0092317/hsa_circ_0003546/H19/XIST-miR-326. In conclusion, our identified ceRNA interaction axes may possibly be important targets for treatment of atherosclerosis.

INTRODUCTION: Urotensin II (UII) is an important vasoactive peptide involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Monocytes/macrophages play important roles in every step of atherosclerosis. Although UII has a chemoattractant effect on monocytes, it is unclear whether UII regulates inflammatory responses in macrophages. The present study sought to explore whether UII can promote leukotriene B4 (LTB4) production by macrophages. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The mRNA expression level of LTB4 and 5-lipoxygenase were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The protein level of LTB4 and 5-lipoxygenase expression was assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot, respectively. Western blot analysis was also employed to determine the phosphorylated forms of Akt. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) level was detected by the fluorescent probe 2',7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate and fluorescence intensity was measured with a multiwell fluorescence plate reader. RESULTS: Urotensin II promoted LTB4 release and increased 5-lipoxygenase expression in a concentration- and time-dependent manner in RAW264.7 cells. Leukotriene B4 production and 5-lipoxygenase expression were decreased by blocking the UII receptor (UT) with urantide, eliminating ROS with N-acetylcysteine and diphenyliodonium, and inhibiting Akt phosphorylation with LY294002. UII significantly elevated ROS production, whereas urantide, N-acetylcysteine and diphenyliodonium substantially attenuated this effect. UII also enhanced Akt phosphorylation significantly, and this effect was potently inhibited by urantide, N-acetylcysteine, diphenyliodonium and LY294002. CONCLUSIONS: Urotensin II may promote 5-lipoxygenase expression and LTB4 release in RAW264.7 macrophages via UT-ROS-Akt pathways. These results indicate that UII may participate in macrophage activation and suggest a potential new mechanism underlying atherosclerosis.

Comprehensive understanding of the influence of soil properties on the potential availability of heavy metals could facilitate soil environment management. This study investigated the distribution of heavy metals and their potential availability in paddy and vegetable fields around electroplating factory outlets and irrigated with its wastewater. The potential availability was assessed using secondary phase fraction (SPF) of heavy metals, including acid-soluble, reducible, and oxidizable fractions resulting from BCR sequential extraction procedure. In total, 94 of topsoil samples (0-20 cm) were collected. Total and SPF concentrations of heavy metals as well as soil physicochemical properties were determined. Multivariable statistical analyses (i.e., principal component analysis (PCA) and redundancy analysis (RDA)) were employed. Results showed that total and SPF concentrations of heavy metals in soil decreased (P<0.05) as sampling distance away from the electroplating factories increased, suggesting that sampling distance was the major parameter that affected gradient variations of both total and potential availability of soil heavy metals. According to PCA, soil samples distributed on the PCA axis representing anthropogenic effect, illustrating that the variation of soil properties resulted from irrigation with electroplating wastewater. RDA and stepwise regression indicated that soil Mn oxides, amorphous Fe oxides, silt content, and pH could explain 68.8% and 43.5% of the variation of SPF concentration in paddy and vegetable garden soil, respectively, suggesting they were the most important factors influencing the potential availability of heavy metals in soils. The potential availability of heavy metals in soil was positively correlated with soil Mn oxides but negatively associated with soil amorphous Fe oxides, indicating that Mn oxides enhanced the potential availability of heavy metals while amorphous Fe oxides reduced the potential availability.

PURPOSE: Propafenone hydrochloride has been widely used for the treatment of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias. We present a case report of an 81-year-old patient with propafenone-associated gross hematuria. METHODS: The Naranjo Adverse Drug Reaction Probability Scale was used to assess causality. We also performed a literature search to find publications that report propafenone-associated gross hematuria. FINDINGS: The Naranjo scale generated a score of 6, suggesting a probable association between gross hematuria and propafenone therapy. Thirteen publications that reported an association between gross hematuria and propafenone administration were found. IMPLICATIONS: A probable association exists between gross hematuria and propafenone.

Polymorphisms of organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) have been reported to affect trough serum digoxin concentration (SDC). However, the association of these polymorphisms with trough SDC in Chinese heart failure patients has not been studied. We aim to explore whether OATP1B1 388A>G, OATP1B1 521T>C, and OATP1B3 699G>A influence trough SDC in Chinese heart failure patients and to make clinical recommendations.Chinese patients (n = 104) diagnosed with heart failure under long-term digoxin therapy (0.125 mg daily) were enrolled in this study. Blood samples were collected for the analysis of trough SDC (immunofluorescence) and the polymorphisms of OATP1B1 388A>G, OATP1B1 521T>C, and OATP1B3 699G>A (PCR-RFLP and Sanger sequencing).Patients with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) under 30 mL/min had significantly higher trough SDC (1.20 ±â€Š0.50 ng/mL) than recommended trough SDC for heart failure patients. Trough SDC was not significantly influenced by mutations of OATP1B1 388A>G (P = .890), 521T>C (P = .054), and OATP1B3 699G>A (P = .854). Patients with OATP1B1 521T>C mutant-type carrier had slightly higher trough SDC (0.98 ±â€Š0.53 ng/mL) than those with wild-type carrier (0.74 ±â€Š0.40 ng/mL) when they have repaired renal function.Heart failure patients with severe renal dysfunction (GFR<60 mL/min) and/or OATP1B1 521T>C mutant-type carriers are recommended a smaller dosage of digoxin and strict therapeutic drug monitoring.

RATIONALE: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a complicated disease which has complex causes and poor outcome. Many factors are involved in the increase of pulmonary artery pressure. It is often difficult to identify the specific cause of a particular patient. However, identifying the etiology is of great importance for specifying treatment strategies and improving the prognosis of patients. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 58-year-old male was admitted because of fatigue, breath shortness for 6 months, which got worse in the last 3 months. The ultrasound cardiogram (UCG) indicated a remarkably elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP = 82 mm Hg). He had hypertension for 15 years. Besides, his spleen was found to be enlarged since 15 years ago. Bone marrow biopsy of the patient revealed myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) with severe myelofibrosis (MF). DIAGNOSIS: Myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) with severe myelofibrosis (MF) which in turn caused PH and portal vein hypertension (PVH). INTERVENTIONS: We treated the patient with diuretics and fosinopril, and also steroids and thalidomide for his MPN/MF. OUTCOMES: Two weeks later, the pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) was remarkably decreased (PASP = 53.1 mm Hg by UCG, mean PAP = 21 mm Hg by right cardiac catheterization). Within 2 years' follow-up, his circulatory state and hematological state remained stable. LESSONS: It is often difficult to define the cause of PH, but it is important for making the appropriate treatment at the same time.

Owing to their ultra-low thermal conductivity, silica aerogels are promising thermal insulators; however, their extensive application is limited by their high production cost. Thus, scientists have started to explore low-cost and easy preparation processes of silica aerogels. In this work, a low-cost method was proposed to prepare silica aerogels with industrial silica hydrosol and a subsequent ambient pressure drying (APD) process. Various surfactants (cationic, amphoteric, or anionic) were added to avoid solvent exchange and surface modification during the APD process. The effects of various surfactants on the microstructure, thermal conductivity, and thermal stability of the silica aerogels were studied. The results showed that the silica aerogels prepared with a cationic or anionic surfactant have better thermal stability than that prepared with an amphoteric surfactant. After being heated at 600 °C, the silica aerogel prepared with a cationic surfactant showed the highest specific surface area of 131 m²âˆ™g-1 and the lowest thermal conductivity of 0.038 W∙m-1∙K-1. The obtained low-cost silica aerogel with low thermal conductivity could be widely applied as a thermal insulator for building and industrial energy-saving applications.

This paper reports the preparation of cast-in-situ, large-sized monolithic silica xerogels by a two-step acid⁻base catalyzed approach under ambient pressure drying. Low-cost industrial silica sol and deionized water were used as the silicon source and the solvent, respectively. Hexadecetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was used as a modification agent. Different amounts of polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) was added as a pore-forming agent. The prepared silica xerogels under ambient pressure drying have a mesoporous structure with a low density of 221 mg·cm-3 and a thermal conductivity of 0.0428 W·m-1·K-1. The low-cost and facile preparation process, as well as the superior performance of the monolithic silica xerogels make it a promising candidate for industrial thermal insulation materials.
