RESUMEN

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by a significant health burden. There is an essential need for novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve diagnosis and management. Mendelian randomization (MR) was applied to explore causal links between SLE and various biomarkers like immune cells, metabolites, and inflammatory cytokines using multiple databases. Initially, biomarkers significantly associated with SLE were identified. Bidirectional MR helped clarify these relationships, and a two-step mediation MR examined their effects on SLE risk. Intersection analysis was used to identify biomarkers with consistent effects across datasets. Four biomarkers were identified as having significant associations with SLE risk: 1-palmitoyl-2-arachidonoyl-GPI levels [odds ratio (OR), 1.379; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.180 to 1.613; FDR, 0.046], IL-17A levels (OR, 2.197; 95% CI, 1.412 to 3.418; FDR, 0.044), N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate (NAAG) levels (OR, 0.882; 95% CI, 0.831 to 0.936; FDR, 0.030), and ribitol levels (OR, 0.743; 95% CI, 0.644 to 0.857; FDR, 0.012). Bidirectional MR showed an inverse effect of NAAG on IL-17A levels (OR, 0.978; 95% CI, 0.962 to 0.994; p = 0.006). Mediation analysis indicated that NAAG influenced SLE risk both directly (beta = - 0.108) and indirectly through IL-17A (beta = - 0.018), highlighting the potential mediating role of IL-17A. After expanding the significance criteria to p < 0.05, intersection analysis across multiple datasets revealed 29 biomarkers with consistent beta directions, including 19 potential risk factors (beta > 0) and 10 protective factors (beta < 0) for SLE. This research has revealed significant genetic associations with SLE and demonstrated that IL-17A mediates the relationship between NAAG levels and SLE risk, highlighting potential new targets for personalized therapeutic interventions. Key Points • This study employs MR to identify significant genetic associations between various biomarkers and SLE, providing novel insights into potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. • Four key biomarkers were identified as significantly associated with SLE risk: 1-palmitoyl-2-arachidonoyl-GPI, IL-17A, N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate (NAAG), and ribitol. • The findings suggest that NAAG levels have a protective effect against SLE, partly mediated through IL-17A, indicating a complex interplay between these biomarkers in the pathogenesis of SLE. • Intersectional analysis across multiple datasets revealed 29 biomarkers with consistent effects on SLE risk, highlighting new directions for future research and potential personalized therapeutic strategies.

This study investigates the relationship between self-rated health, social participation, spouse health, and depressive symptoms in older adults. It also analyzed the moderating effects of gender, drinking, visual function, diet, quality of life, and economic level on the model. We analyzed data from 5119 participants aged 60 and above, from the CLHLS. We used a partial least squares structural equation model to explore the correlation between self-rated health, spouse health, social participation, and depressive symptoms. Self-rated health was significantly correlated with spouse health, social participation, and depressive symptoms (P < 0.001). Social participation (ß=-0.034) and spouse health (ß=-0.029) were mediators of self-rated health to depressive symptoms. In addition, gender, drinking, visual function, diet, quality of life, and economic level were mediated factors. This study provides evidence that self-rated health has direct or indirect associations with depressive symptoms in older people, with social participation and spouse health playing a crucial mediating role.

The quality of tobacco is directly affected by macromolecular content, fermentation is an effective method to improve biochemical properties. In this study, we utilized CBHA (cellobiohydrolase A) glycosylase, which was expressed by Pichia pastoris, as an additive for fermentation. The contents of main chemical components of tobacco leaves after fermentation were determined, and the changes of microbial community structure and abundance in tobacco leaves during fermentation were analyzed. The relationship between chemical composition and changes in microbial composition was investigated, and the function of bacteria and fungi in fermentation was predicted to identify possible metabolic pathways. After 48 h of CBHA fermentation, the contents of starch, cellulose and total nitrogen in tobacco leaf decreased by 17.60%, 28.91% and 16.05%, respectively. The microbial community structure changed significantly, with Aspergillus abundance decreasing significantly, while Filobasidum, Cladosporium, Bullera, Komagataella, etc., increased in CBHA treated group. Soluble sugar was most affected by microbial community in tobacco leaves, which was negatively correlated with starch, cellulose and total nitrogen. During the fermentation process, the relative abundance of metabolism-related functional genes increased, and the expressions of cellulase and endopeptidase also increased. The results showed that the changes of bacterial community and dominant microbial community on tobacco leaves affected the content of chemical components in tobacco leaves, and adding CBHA for fermentation had a positive effect on improving the quality of tobacco leaves.

Research on drug-drug interaction (DDI) prediction, particularly in identifying DDI event types, is crucial for understanding adverse drug reactions and drug combinations. This work introduces a Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network model for DDI event type prediction (BiRNN-DDI), which simultaneously considers structural relationships and contextual information. Our BiRNN-DDI model constructs drug feature graphs to mine structural relationships. For contextual information, it transforms drug graphs into sequences and employs a two-channel structure, integrating BiRNN, to obtain contextual representations of drug-drug pairs. The model's effectiveness is demonstrated through comparisons with state-of-the-art models on two DDI event-type benchmarks. Extensive experimental results reveal that BiRNN-DDI surpasses other models in accuracy, AUPR, AUC, F1 score, Precision, and Recall metrics on both small and large datasets. Additionally, our model exhibits a lower parameter space, indicating more efficient learning of drug feature representations and prediction of potential DDI event types.

The plasma membrane involves in many important biological events such as cell fusion and programmed cell death, but most of current plasma membrane probes cannot meet the requirement of long-term specific anchoring to the plasma membrane. Herein, we propose a molecular side-chain engineering strategy to modulate the long-term imaging performance of fluorescent dyes to the plasma membrane by regulating the cell permeability and anchoring ability. A series of FMR dyes with different lengths of side chains were designed and synthesized, and their transmembrane behaviours and staining performance were evaluated in living HeLa cells. We found that short-chain and medium-chain FMR dyes have excellent cell permeability without the labeling ability to the plasma membrane while the long-chain FMR dyes specifically stain the plasma membrane and can be firmly anchored to the plasma membrane for a long period of time. These long-chain FMR dyes have high stain specificality to the plasma membrane, and C10-FMR can be anchored to the plasma membrane of living cells for 2 h, which enables it to continuously monitor dynamic changes of the plasma membrane. The three-dimensional precision imaging of various cells was achieved using C10-FMR, which provides an opportunity to obtain complete information on the three-dimensional spatial morphology of the plasma membrane. The PEG-induced cell fusion of chicken red blood cells and H2O2-induced apoptosis of HeLa cells were monitored by real-time tracking of dynamic changes of the plasma membrane during these processes, which provide solid examples to prove the usefulness of these fluorescent dyes as long-term imaging tools. This work validates the hypothesis that cell permeability of membrane dyes can be readily regulated by tuning the side chains, and provides the effective design strategy of fluorescent dyes for 3D and long-term dynamic tracking of the plasma membrane of diverse animal cells.

We herein describe a rare case of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia with an 18florine-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) skeletal superscan-like appearance. The degree of bone marrow uptake was so intense that it far exceeded the level of physiological cerebral uptake and radiourinary activity. The distribution was remarkably similar to a superscan seen on skeletal scintigraphy. Skeletal superscans of 18F-FDG PET/CT have been reported in hematological diseases, solid tumors with extensive bone metastasis, and metabolic diseases. Thus, we reviewed the PET/CT images of cases reported, indicating that more homogeneous distribution, without primary tumor and specific mandibular and skull activity, may be suggestive of hematological diseases.

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to identify relevant aspects for disability evaluation used in scientific literature for older adults. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We employed a systematic review methodology as outlined by the ICF Research Branch. The methodology consists of four steps: 1) identifying studies that focus on disability evaluation among older adults; 2) identifying disability measures used in these studies; 3) linking the concepts contained in these measures to ICF categories; 4) conducting frequency analysis. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: A total of 1942 concepts contained in disability measures from 137 studies were extracted. About 97.7% of the concepts could be linked, and 1862 concepts were linked to 52 second-level ICF categories. Of these, 44 categories found in at least 5% of the studies (range 5.1-85.4%) were selected to develop an outcome set that represents the relevant categories, including five categories in the Body Functions component and 39 categories from the Activities and Participation component. CONCLUSIONS: The relevant categories identified in our study reflect the essential areas that measure disability for older adults, providing a scientific basis for developing an ICF Core Set for disability evaluation, in combination with further empirical study and expert survey. Information from the outcome set is also valuable for providing a standardized minimal set for disability measurement, which can be used for data comparison across different studies and the development of an ICF-based disability measurement tool.

Verticillium wilt, caused by the pathogenic fungus Verticillium dahliae, has emerged as a severe threat to cotton globally. However, little is known about the genetic diversity of this pathogen in an infected single cotton plant. In this study, we isolated three new V. dahliae strains from the disease stems of Gossypium hirsutum from the cotton field in Western China and assessed their pathogenicity to the cotton cultivar Xinnongmian-1 and its two transgenic lines, as well as two laboratory strains, VD592 and VD991. These three new V. dahliae strains were identified using DNA barcodes of tryptophan synthase (TS), actin (ACT), elongation factor 1-α (EF), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPD). Moreover, the haplotype analysis revealed that the three new races had distinct haplotypes at the TS locus. Furthermore, the results of culture features and genetic diversity of ISSR (inter-simple sequence repeat) revealed that there were separate V. dahliae strains, which were strong defoliating pathotypes belonging to race 2 type, as determined by particular DNA marker recognition. The identified strains demonstrated varied levels of pathogenicity by leaf disc and entire plant inoculation methods. Conservatively, these strains showed some pathogenicity on cotton lines, but were less pathogenic than the reference strains. The findings revealed that several strong defoliating V. dahliae pathotypes coexist on the same cotton plant. It indicats the importance of regular monitoring as an early warning system, as well as the detection and reporting of virulent pathogen strains and their effects on crop response.

BACKGROUND: Logsplitter Injury is a type of high-energy ankle fracture dislocation. The mechanism of injury has not been described in detail. A detailed understanding of the radiological features and pathological changes can further guide treatment. METHODS: Between April 2009 and December 2018, a retrospective analysis was conducted on 62 patients with Logsplitter injury. The study analysed the characteristics of fibular injury, tibial injury, syndesmosis injury, medial injury and lateral ligament injury on preoperative X-ray and CT scans. The incidence of the different injury types was summarised. The correlation between Logsplitter injuries and the mechanisms causing them were analysed using the Lauge-Hansen classification of ankle fractures. RESULTS: The study provides data on the types of fractures observed. Of the total fractures, 98.4% were open fractures. The fibula injuries were classified as no fracture (1.6%), transverse or short oblique fractures (61.3%), butterfly fragments (25.8%), and comminuted fractures (11.3%). The tibial injuries included compression of lateral articular surfaces (38.7%) and posterior compressions (6.5%). Medial injuries, including medial malleolar fractures, accounted for 87.1%, and deltoid ligament rupture accounted for 12.9%. The study found that injuries to the syndesmosis consisted of simple ligament ruptures (11.3%), Tillaux fractures (8.1%), Volkmann fractures (43.5%), and Tillaux and Volkmann fractures (37.1%). In 12.9% of cases, there was a complete rupture of the lateral collateral ligament. Based on the Lauge-Hansen classification, 87.1% of injuries were pronation-abduction injuries, while 8.1% were pronation and external rotation injuries, and 1.6% were supination external rotation injuries. Furthermore, 3.2% of cases could not be classified. CONCLUSION: The pathoanatomic characteristics of Logsplitter injury are diverse, with some cases accompanied by collateral ligament injury. It is important to note that these evaluations are objective and based on current results. The most common injury mechanism is vertical violence combined with abduction, although in some cases, it may be a vertical combined external-rotation injury. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: (4) case series. Drought, especially terminal drought, severely limits wheat growth and yield. Understanding the complex mechanisms behind the drought response in wheat is essential for developing drought-resistant varieties. This study aimed to dissect the genetic architecture and high-yielding wheat ideotypes under terminal drought. An automated high-throughput phenotyping platform was used to examine 28 392 image-based digital traits (i-traits) under different drought conditions during the flowering stage of a natural wheat population. Of the i-traits examined, 17 073 were identified as drought-related. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 5320 drought-related significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 27 SNP clusters. A notable hotspot region controlling wheat drought tolerance was discovered, in which TaPP2C6 was shown to be an important negative regulator of the drought response. The tapp2c6 knockout lines exhibited enhanced drought resistance without a yield penalty. A haplotype analysis revealed a favored allele of TaPP2C6 that was significantly correlated with drought resistance, affirming its potential value in wheat breeding programs. We developed an advanced prediction model for wheat yield and drought resistance using 24 i-traits analyzed by machine learning. In summary, this study provides comprehensive insights into the high-yielding ideotype and an approach for the rapid breeding of drought-resistant wheat.

Liriodendron chinense has been widely utilized in traditional Chinese medicine to treat dispelling wind and dampness and used for alleviating cough and diminishing inflammation. However, the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effects of L. chinense leaves and the key active constituents remained elusive. So, we conducted some experiments to support the application of L. chinense in traditional Chinese medicine by investigating the antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory abilities, and to identify the potential key constituents responsible for the activities. The ethanol extract of L. chinense leaves (LCLE) was isolated and extracted, and assays measuring ferric reducing antioxidant power, total reducing power, DPPH•, ABTS•+, and •OH were used to assess its in vitro antioxidant capacities. Antimicrobial activities of LCLE were investigated by minimal inhibitory levels, minimum antibacterial concentrations, disc diffusion test, and scanning electron microscope examination. Further, in vivo experiments including macro indicators examination, histopathological examination, and biochemical parameters measurement were conducted to investigate the effects of LCLE on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in mice. LCLE was further isolated and purified through column chromatography, and LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells were constructed to assess the diminished inflammation potential of the identified chemical composites. ABTS•+ and •OH radicals were extensively neutralized by the LCLE treatment. LCLE administration also presented broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, especially against Staphylococcus epidermidis by disrupting cell walls. LPS-induced ALI in mice was significantly ameliorated by LCLE intervention, as evidenced by the histological changes in the lung and liver tissues as well as the reductions of nitric oxide (NO), TNF-α, and IL-6 production. Furthermore, three novel compounds including fragransin B2, liriodendritol, and rhamnocitrin were isolated, purified, and identified from LCLE. These three compounds exhibited differential regulation on NO accumulation and IL-10, IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, COX-2, and iNOS mRNA expression in RAW264.7 cells induced by LPS. Fragransin B2 was more effective in inhibiting TNF-α mRNA expression, while rhamnocitrin was more powerful in inhibiting IL-6 mRNA expression. LCLE had significant antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory effects. Fragransin B2, liriodendritol, and rhamnocitrin were probably key active constituents of LCLE, which might act synergistically to treat inflammatory-related disorders. This study provided a valuable view of the healing potential of L. chinense leaves in curing inflammatory diseases.

BACKGROUND: Proliferative verrucous leucoplakia (PVL) is a rare but slow-growing, aggressive leucoplakia lesion associated with the highest malignant transformation rate in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). With increasing attention paid to PVL, it is urgent for us to analyse and summarise the publications globally using comprehensive bibliometric studies to help researchers propose possible future research directions and guide them to further conduct relevant studies in the domain. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to evaluate global academic productivity, impact, and collaboration of potentially malignant oral disorder PVL utilising bibliometrics based on annual number of publications, countries and regions, institution, authors, journals, citations and co-occurrences of author keywords over the last 20 years. METHODS: This study searched publications pertaining to proliferative verrucous leucoplakia in the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Utilizing VOSviewer, R software, Bibliometric online analysis platform, CiteSpace software, and Microsoft Excel, we conducted a bibliometric and visualised analysis of PVL. RESULTS: The quantity of pertinent publications in this research domain displays a fluctuating but overall upward trend. In aggregate, there are 148 articles and 61 reviews, encompassing research contributions from 44 countries, 45 institutions, and involving 831 authors. Among these publications, the USA, Spain, and UK emerged as the predominant contributing nations. Predominantly, articles found their publication venue in "Pathology Research and Practice." Notably, the author with the highest number of publications and most influence is Warnakulasuriya S. The top 3 keywords include "Proliferative Verrucous Leucoplakia," "Squamous-Cell Carcinoma," "Oral Leucoplakia," and "Potentially Malignant Disorders." CONCLUSION: In this investigation, statistical analysis and network visualisation were conducted to reveal the research progress, trends, and trending topics on PVL via a thorough bibliometric analysis. We found that current publications comprise mainly case reports, there is a significant research need to explore the molecular mechanisms, specific diagnostic criteria, and effective management options for PVL. Our work should serve as a key reference and a directional guide for future research in this domain.

Background: Immunotherapy functions by leveraging immunoregulation drugs to bolster the immune system's capacity to identify and eliminate cancerous cells. In contrast to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, immunotherapy exhibits diminished side effects, heightened efficacy, and prolonged survival rates. Nevertheless, meticulous exploration into the determinants governing the advantageous effects of immunotherapy among patients who have previously undergone multiple prior therapies has yet to be conducted. Albumin (ALB) as a nutritional indicator has not been thoroughly studied for its prognostic effect on efficacy or survival. This study aims to identify factors that influence treatment outcomes among patients undergoing third-line or later immunological therapies. Methods: A cohort of 250 lung cancer patients undergoing toripalimab or tislelizumab immunotherapy was the focal point of data collection. The determination of the median value facilitated the establishment of a cut-off point, enabling the categorization of continuous variables. After data collection, a series of statistical analyses of various clinical factors at baseline were performed, including nonparametric tests, logistic regression, and Cox proportional risk modeling. The last follow-up was in May 2022. The primary study endpoint was overall survival (OS). Results: A total of 250 patients were enrolled in the study, of which 129 patients received first- or second-line immunotherapy and 121 patients received third-line or subsequent immunotherapy. According to Cox multifactor regression analysis, in patients receiving either first- or second-line therapy, the ALB level exhibited negligible prognostic relevance (P>0.05). However, in patients subjected to immunotherapy beyond the second line, the ALB level manifested significant prognostic importance (P=0.039). Notably, patients demonstrating elevated ALB levels achieved a higher disease control rate (DCR) (70.0% vs. 52.5%, P=0.05) and displayed a tendency towards a heightened objective response rate (ORR) (20.0% vs. 16.4%, P=0.61) in comparison to those with lower ALB levels. Conclusions: Among patients undergoing immunotherapy in the third line or subsequent treatment phases, elevated ALB levels in baseline correlated with DCR and OS. Thus, the pre-immunotherapy ALB level emerges as an autonomous predictor of OS in patients subjected to third- or later line immunotherapy interventions.

Gene expression plays a pivotal role in various diseases, contributing significantly to their mechanisms. Most GWAS risk loci are in non-coding regions, potentially affecting disease risk by altering gene expression in specific tissues. This expression is notably tissue-specific, with genetic variants substantially influencing it. However, accurately detecting the expression Quantitative Trait Loci (eQTL) is challenging due to limited heritability in gene expression, extensive linkage disequilibrium (LD), and multiple causal variants. The single variant association approach in eQTL analysis is limited by its susceptibility to capture the combined effects of multiple variants, and a bias towards common variants, underscoring the need for a more robust method to accurately identify causal eQTL variants. To address this, we developed an algorithm, CausalEQTL, which integrates L 0 +L 1 penalized regression with an ensemble approach to localize eQTL, thereby enhancing prediction performance precisely. Our results demonstrate that CausalEQTL outperforms traditional models, including LASSO, Elastic Net, Ridge, in terms of power and overall performance. Furthermore, analysis of heart tissue data from the GTEx project revealed that eQTL sites identified by our algorithm provide deeper insights into heart-related tissue eQTL detection. This advancement in eQTL mapping promises to improve our understanding of the genetic basis of tissue-specific gene expression and its implications in disease. With the aging population in China, health issues among the elderly are becoming increasingly prominent, leading to a rapidly growing demand for health interventions for the elderly. Exergames are one of the important emerging methods in the field of health interventions for the elderly, widely used and yielding positive results. While research on exergames is well-established abroad, it is still in its infancy in China, lacking reports on the types, interaction forms, intervention content, application status, and effectiveness of exergames. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a chronic and inflammatory mucosal disease caused by betel quid chewing, which belongs to oral potentially malignant disorders. Abnormal fibroblast differentiation leading to disordered collagen metabolism is the core process underlying OSF development. The epithelium, which is the first line of defense against the external environment, can convert external signals into pathological signals and participate in the remodeling of the fibrotic microenvironment. However, the specific mechanisms by which the epithelium drives fibroblast differentiation remain unclear. In this study, we found that Arecoline-exposed epithelium communicated with the fibrotic microenvironment by secreting exosomes. MiR-17-5p was encapsulated in epithelial cell-derived exosomes and absorbed by fibroblasts, where it promoted cell secretion, contraction, migration and fibrogenic marker (α-SMA and collagen type I) expression. The underlying molecular mechanism involved miR-17-5p targeting Smad7 and suppressing the degradation of TGF-ß receptor 1 (TGFBR1) through the E3 ubiquitination ligase WWP1, thus facilitating downstream TGF-ß pathway signaling. Treatment of fibroblasts with an inhibitor of miR-17-5p reversed the contraction and migration phenotypes induced by epithelial-derived exosomes. Exosomal miR-17-5p was confirmed to function as a key regulator of the phenotypic transformation of fibroblasts. In conclusion, we demonstrated that Arecoline triggers aberrant epithelium-fibroblast crosstalk and identified that epithelial cell-derived miR-17-5p mediates fibroblast differentiation through the classical TGF-ß fibrotic pathway, which provided a new perspective and strategy for the diagnosis and treatment of OSF.

Chinese cabbage is a cross-pollinated crop with significant heterosis, and male sterile lines are an important way to produce hybrid seeds. In this study, a male sterile mutant msm0795 was identified in an EMS-mutagenized population of Chinese cabbage. Cytological observations revealed that the microspores failed to separate after the tetrad stage, and thus developed into abnormal pollen grains, resulting in anther abortion. MutMap combined with Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR genotyping showed that BraA01g011280.3.5 C was identified as the candidate gene, which encodes polygalacturonase QRT3 and plays a direct role in the degradation of pollen mother cell wall during microspore development, named BrQRT3. Subcellular localization and expression analyses demonstrated that BrQRT3 was localized in the cell membrane and was ubiquitously expressed in roots, stems, leaves, flower buds, and flowers, but the expression of BrQRT3 was gradually suppressed with the anther development. Ectopic expression confirmed that over-expression of BrQRT3 in qrt3 background Arabidopsis mutant can rescue the pollen defects caused by loss of AtQRT3 function. It is the first time to achieve a male sterile mutant caused by the mutation of BrQRT3 in Chinese cabbage. These findings contribute to elucidate the mechanism of BrQRT3 in regulating stamen development of Chinese cabbage.

BACKGROUND: Chronic total coronary occlusion (CTO) is an extremely hazardous condition that leads to various clinical phenomena and complications and results in social and economic burdens. Hyperuricemia (HU) is often associated with atherosclerosis. Few studies, however, have investigated the risk of CTO in individuals with HU and the role of traditional cardiovascular risk factors in this setting. METHODS: A cohort of 1245 individuals without chronic kidney disease from southwest China who underwent coronary angiography between February 2018 and June 2021 were enrolled. CTO was defined as a total occlusion of any coronary artery or arteries for more than 3 months. HU was defined as a serum uric acid level of ≥420 µmol/L in men and ≥360 µmol/L in women. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models and subgroup analyses were applied to assess the relationship between HU and CTO. RESULTS: After adjustment, HU was noted to be associated with a 1.47-fold increase in the risk of CTO [odds ratio (OR), 1.47; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.06-2.58; P = 0.026]. As a continuous variable, uric acid was an independent predictor of CTO (OR, 1.002; 95% CI, 1.001-1.004; P = 0.047). Subgroup analyses showed that the risk of CTO was higher among individuals under 65 years of age (OR, 2.77; 95% CI, 1.3-5.89), nonobese individuals (OR, 1.9; 95% CI, 1.16-3.1), and those with dyslipidemia (OR, 1.8; 95% CI, 1.04-3.11), while sex, smoking, hypertension, and diabetes did not show similar effects. Interaction analyses revealed no interaction among subgroups. CONCLUSION: Among individuals residing in southwest China, HU was associated with an increased risk of CTO in non-CKD individuals, especially those under 65 years of age and nonobese and dyslipidemic individuals.
