RESUMEN

Inoculating lignocellulose-degrading microorganisms can accelerate straw decomposition in paddy field; however, the relationship between indigenous and inoculated microorganisms remains unclear. This study explored the effects of microbial inoculation on straw decomposition, microbial community, lignocellulose-degrading consortia, and associated functional genes. After inoculation, straw degradation rate increased by up to 4.9 %, and the rice yield increased by 790 kg/ha. Microbial inoculation restructured soil microbial community, influencing key taxa and interactions within the microbial network. A lignocellulose-degrading consortia consisting 37 genera was established, with a notable increase in the relative abundance of lignocellulose-degrading bacteria following inoculation. Among them, Pseudarthrobacter, with high lignin-degrading enzyme activity, emerged as a key genus after inoculation. Additionally, the abundance of lignin-degrading enzyme genes also increased significantly after inoculation. These findings offer new insights into how microbial inoculation accelerates the in situ decomposition of rice straw by reshaping the structure and function of lignocellulose-degrading consortia within the soil ecosystem.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary papillary adenoma is a rare benign tumor in the periphery of the lung. We report a 66-year-old female patient with a tumor in the lower lobe of the right lung and present the clinicopathological features and review the literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A tumor in the lower lobe of the right lung was found incidentally on chest X-ray during the physical examination of the patient, and the patient occasionally had a dry cough that was not treated. The tumor was clearly demarcated and lobulated on CT scan. After 2 years of follow-up, the boundary of the tumor was still clear, with more lobulations and the enhanced scan showed uniform enhancement. Grossly, the tumor had a granular cut surface and was easy to fall off, which was helpful for the diagnosis of papillary adenoma during intraoperative frozen examination. Under the microscope, most areas of the tumor had the typical morphological structure of papillary adenoma. However, the tumor locally protruded into the surrounding lung tissue, accompanied by crowded cells and high cell proliferation index. It was suggested that this case of papillary adenoma had malignant potential and needed active intervention and treatment. CONCLUSION: Pulmonary papillary adenoma is a rare epithelial tumor with malignant potential. Surgical treatment should be performed as soon as possible after diagnosis to prevent malignant transformation.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the effects of STOML2 and the relationship between STOML2 and PAI-1 in the development of multiple myeloma (MM). METHODS: Cell proliferation was tested using CCK-8 assay and cell colony formation assay. Glucose consumption, lactate production and ATP level were measured using commercial kits. The mRNA and protein expression were assessed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting, respectively. RESULTS: Both mRNA and protein expression of STOML2 were upregulated in MM patients compared to healthy volunteers. CCK-8 and colony formation assays demonstrated that STOML2 silencing inhibited cell proliferation in MM cells. Knockdown of STOML2 reduced glucose consumption, lactate production and ATP/ADP ratios. STOML2 silencing by shSTOML2 led to reduced PAI-1 expression. Overexpression of PAI-1 reversed the inhibitory effects of shSTOML2 on MM cell growth. CONCLUSION: Results from this study demonstrated that STOML2 silencing inhibits cell proliferation and glycolysis through downregulation of PAI-1 expression, suggesting a new therapeutic target for MM.

BACKGROUND: General practitioners (GPs) are the most important providers of primary health care, as proven by related research published several decades ago. However, the knowledge structure and theme trends of such research remain unclear. Accordingly, this study aimed to provide an overview of the development of research on GPs over the period of 1999 to 2014. METHODS: Studies on GPs conducted from 1999 to 2014 were retrieved from PubMed. In this work, co-word, social network analysis, and theme trends analyses were conducted to reveal the knowledge structures and thematic evolution of research on GPs. RESULTS: The number of conducted studies on GPs increased. However, growth speed slowed down during the past 16 years. A total of 27 high-frequency keywords were identified in 1999 to 2003, and more new and specific high-frequency keywords emerged in the subsequent periods. The dynamic of this field was first divergent and then considered convergent. Specifically, network centralization is 19.77%, 19.09%, and 13.04% in 1999 to 2003, 2004 to 2008 and 2009 to 2014, respectively. The major topics of research on GPs completed from 1999 to 2014 were "physician/family,""attitude of health personnel," and "primary health care," and "general practitioner" communities, and so on. CONCLUSION: The research themes on GPs are relatively stable at the beginning of the 21(st) century. However, the thematic evolution and research topics of research on GPs are changing dynamically in recent years. Themes related to the roles and competencies of GPs, and the relations between general practitioner and patients/others have become research foci on GPs. In addition, more substantial research especially on comprehensive approaches and holistic modeling, which have been defined in the European Definition of General Practice/Family Medicine, are expected to be accomplished.
