RESUMEN

A new type of hybrid polymer particles capable of carrying the cytostatic drug doxorubicin and labeled with a gallium compound was prepared. These microparticles consist of a core and a hydrogel shell, which serves as the structural matrix. The shell can be employed to immobilize gallium oxide hydroxide (GaOOH) nanoparticles and the drug, resulting in hybrid beads with sizes of approximately 3.81 ± 0.09 µm. The microparticles exhibit the ability to incorporate a remarkably large amount of doxorubicin, approximately 0.96 mg per 1 mg of the polymeric carrier. Additionally, GaOOH nanoparticles can be deposited within the hydrogel layer at an amount of 0.64 mg per 1 mg of the carrier. These nanoparticles, resembling rice grains with an average size of 593 nm by 155 nm, are located on the surface of the polymer carrier. In vitro studies on breast and colon cancer cell lines revealed a pronounced cytotoxic effect of the hybrid polymer particles loaded with doxorubicin, indicating their potential for cancer therapies. Furthermore, investigations on doping the hybrid particles with the Ga-68 radioisotope demonstrated their potential application in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. The proposed structures present a promising theranostic platform, where particles could be employed in anticancer therapies while monitoring their accumulation in the body using PET.

RESUMEN

The Smith-Watson-Topper parameter (SWT) in its original form was designed to estimate the fatigue life of metal materials in a uniaxial load state (tension-compression) in the range up to fatigue crack initiation, with non-zero mean values. This parameter is based on the analysis of both stress and strain. Therefore, the stress-strain criterion is the focus, rather than the energy criterion. This paper presents the original SWT model and its numerous modifications. The first part presents different versions of this parameter defined by the normal parameters. Then, it presents versions defined through the tangent parameter and the most promising parameter defined through the tangent and normal parameters. It was noted that the final form of the equivalent value is defined either by stress or by an energy parameter. Therefore, the possible characteristics from which the fatigue life can be determined are also presented.

RESUMEN

In the case of many low-cycle multiaxial fatigue criteria, we encounter a mathematical problem of adding vectors of normal and shear strains. Typically, the problem of defining an equivalent strain is solved by weighting factors. Unfortunately, this ignores the fact that these vectors represent other physical quantities: the normal strain is a longitudinal strain, and the shear strain is a rotation angle. Therefore, the goal of the present work was to propose a method of combining different types of strains by adopting a system of complex numbers. The normal strain was defined as the real part and the shear strain was defined as the imaginary part. Using this approach, simple load states, such as pure bending and pure torsion, have been transformed into an expression for equivalent strain identical to the previously proposed criteria defined by Macha.

RESUMEN

The main purpose of this paper is to propose, based on the literature review, a new multiaxial fatigue strain criterion, analogous to the Dang Van stress criterion, considering the maximum amplitude of the shear strain and volumetric strain. The proposed strain criterion was successfully verified by fatigue tests in cyclic bending with torsion of specimens made of 2017A-T4 and 6082-T6 aluminum alloy. The scatter of test results for cyclic bending and the combination of cyclic bending and torsion is included in the scatter of tests for the cyclic torsion of the analyzed materials. Fracture surfaces for respective bending and torsion in the 6082-T6 aluminum test with strain control showed that, in the case of bending, cracks can be observed that develop from the surface of the specimen towards the bending plane. They are inclined from the fatigue crack at an angle of 45° in relation to the crack surface and the remaining cracks come from the static fracture. In the case of torsion, however, a conical fracture at 45° and a static torsion zone can be observed.

RESUMEN

This paper describes the current state-of-the-art in fatigue life assessment for lightweight composite structures with the use of the frequency domain fatigue life calculation method. Random stationary gaussian loading signals have been generated and served in the process of fatigue calculation. The material information that is being used in the calculation process has been obtained from literature for the Glare 2 composite. The effect of nonzero mean stress and different fiber orientations have been taken into account. The calculations have been performed for two mean stress compensation models by Goodman and Gerber. The proposed procedure gives satisfying results for the high-cycle fatigue region for Goodman and an overall good comparison in both regimes for the Gerber model.
