RESUMEN

Leveraging data from a longitudinal study of Chinese families (n = 364), this research aims to understand the role of secure base script knowledge as a cognitive mechanism by which early caregiving experiences inform adolescents' friendship quality and feelings of loneliness. Results showed that observed maternal sensitivity at 14 and 24 months old was negatively associated with adolescents' self-reported conflicts with close friends (ß = -0.17, p = 0.044) at 15 years old, and this association was partially mediated by their secure base script knowledge assessed at 10 years old. Further, secure base script knowledge moderated the link between adolescents' friend conflict and feelings of loneliness (ß = -0.15, p = 0.037). The results support a cognitive script perspective on the association between early caregiving experiences and later socio-emotional adjustment. Furthermore, this study adds to the developmental literature that has previously focused on more stringent and authoritarian aspects of parenting in Chinese families, thereby contributing to our understanding of how sensitive and supportive parenting practices contribute to socio-emotional development outside of Western contexts. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Maternal sensitivity during infancy and toddlerhood has a long-term association with adolescents' friendship quality and adolescents' secure base script partially explains the association. First evidence to demonstrate that the secure base script in attachment relationships mediates the association between early maternal caregiving and socio-emotional development in Chinese adolescents. Adolescents lacking secure base script knowledge are particularly vulnerable to feelings of loneliness when facing high levels of conflict in close friendships.

A growing body of literature shows that adherence to some aspects of Western masculinity norms, including the suppression of emotional vulnerability, avoidance of seeking support from others, and exaggerated physical toughness, is associated with poorer psychological and social outcomes. While existing research suggests that parental gender beliefs and caregiving behaviors might influence the development of children's gendered behaviors, little is known about the developmental origins of individual differences in adherence to masculinity norms. The current study aims to address this gap and presents a longitudinal investigation of how parental gender beliefs and maternal sensitivity during infancy contribute to children's adherence to masculinity norms during middle childhood. Data were drawn from a mixed-method 9-year longitudinal study of 374 urban Chinese families (48.40% with daughters). Parental gender beliefs were assessed at 24 months, maternal sensitivity was assessed with mother-child interaction observations at 14 and 24 months, and children's self-reported adherence to masculinity norms were assessed at age 10 years. Results indicate that while parental gender beliefs had no associations with children's adherence to masculinity norms, maternal sensitivity predicted children's adherence to masculinity norms (ß = -.18, p = .008) above and beyond parental gender beliefs and parental education level; moreover, there was a significant interaction of sex on the effect of maternal sensitivity on children's adherence to masculinity (ß = -.23, p = .025), and the association was significant only for boys. Significant links exist between one's perception of available social support and mental health outcomes, including during the transition to motherhood. Yet, attachment theory posits that individuals do not benefit equally from social support. As such, we examined the influence of attachment representations (i.e., secure base script knowledge) as they potentially moderate links between social support and psychological distress in a 1-year longitudinal study of an ethnically diverse (56% White) sample of infant-mother dyads. We hypothesized that higher social support would predict lower maternal psychological distress and this relation would be strongest in those with higher secure base script knowledge. Results indicated that maternal perceptions of social support were significantly negatively correlated with psychological distress. Analyses revealed that secure base script scores significantly moderated these associations. Interestingly, for those high in script knowledge, low social support predicted greater psychological distress. For those low in script knowledge, social support was unrelated to psychological distress. This pattern suggested that those who expect care (i.e., high secure base script knowledge) but receive minimal support (i.e., low perceived social support) find motherhood uniquely dysregulating. Practitioners may do well to examine individuals' attachment expectations in relation to their current social support.

Objective: To explore the efficacy, safety, and feasibility of holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage in the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts. Methods: From September 2012 to February 2019, a total of 18 patients, aged from 28 to 62 (mean±standard deviation [SD]: 46.50±9.14) years, were diagnosed with parapelvic renal cysts and treated by holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage. There were 10 males and eight females. All of the parapelvic renal cysts were unilateral, and two cases were complicated with pyelolithiasis. The diameters of the cysts ranged from 4.1 cm to 8.2 cm. Results: All the patients completed the operation successfully in one stage without conversion to open surgery; in two cases, it was difficult to find the cysts during the operation, and the localization was completed by B-ultrasound and percutaneous injection of methylene blue. The mean operative time was 33.89 (SD: 9.68; range: 22-54) min, and the mean hospitalization time was 2.67 (SD: 0.91; range: 2-5) days. Three months and 6 months of follow-up were performed after surgery. The cysts disappeared in 13 (72%) cases, and the diameter of the cysts in five (28%) cases decreased by more than 50%. Conclusion: Holmium laser flexible ureteroscopic intrapelvic drainage in the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts is simple, safe, and effective, and can be used as the first choice for the treatment of parapelvic renal cysts.

Chainlike ZSM-5 was synthesized in a tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) and poly(diallydimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) dual-template system. The synthesis parameters and formation mechanism of chainlike zeolites were investigated. The optimized composition of the synthesis mixture was as follows: the PDDA/SiO2, TPAOH/SiO2, SiO2/Al2O3, and H2O/SiO2 molar ratios are, respectively, 0.16, 0.4, 50, and 40, with tetraethyl orthosilicate and aluminum nitrate as silicon/aluminum sources. The resultant ZSM-5 showed a cross-linked chainlike morphology, mesopore-dominated pore structure, and mild acidity. The formation of the chainlike zeolite was attributed to synergistic actions between PDDA and TPAOH. TPAOH acted as an alkali source and helped to induce nucleation and control the crystal size. PDDA acted as a soft template to promote crystal nucleation, and a hard template to form a three-dimensional mesoporous structure. Light olefin (C2-4 =) selectivities from cracking of ethanol and oleic acid over the present chainlike ZSM-5 at 400 °C reached 90 and 75.7%, respectively, which were much higher than those from commercial ZSM-5 (75 and 52.3%, respectively), demonstrating the excellent hydrothermal stability and catalytic performance of the synthesized chainlike zeolite.

Numerous studies on the bioavailability of graphene-based nanomaterials relate to the water-only exposure route. However, the sediment exposure route should be the most important pathway for benthic organisms to ingest graphene, while to date little work on the bioavailability of graphene in benthic organisms has been explored. In this study, with the help of carbon-14-labeled few-layer graphene (14C-FLG), we quantificationally compared the bioaccumulation, biodistribution, and elimination kinetics of 14C-FLG in loaches via waterborne and sediment exposures. After 72 h of exposure, the accumulated 14C-FLG in loaches exposed via waterborne was 14.28 µg/g (dry mass), which was 3.18 times higher than that (4.49 µg/g) exposed via sediment. The biodistribution results showed that, compared to waterborne exposure, sediment exposure remarkably facilitated the transport of 14C-FLG from the gut into the liver, which made it difficult to be excreted. Although 14C-FLG did not cause significant hepatotoxicity, the disruption of intestinal microbiota homeostasis, immune response, and several key metabolic pathways in the gut were observed, which may be due to the majority of 14C-FLG being accumulated in the gut. Overall, this study reveals the different bioavailabilities of graphene in loaches via waterborne and sediment exposures, which is helpful in predicting its bioaccumulation capability and trophic transfer ability.

Purpose: We aimed to develop and to validate a novel nomogram based on inflammatory markers to preoperatively predict microvascular invasion (MVI) in patients with solitary primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Patients and Methods: Data from 658 patients with solitary primary HCC who underwent hepatectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2018 to October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into training (n=441) and validation (n=217) cohorts according to surgical data. Independent risk factors for MVI were identified via univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses in the training cohort. A novel nomogram was developed based on the independent risk factors identified. Its accuracy was evaluated using a calibration curve and concordance index (C-index). The predictive value was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Preoperative alpha-fetoprotein >969 µg/L (P<0.001), tumor size (P=0.002), neutrophil >1.8×109/L (P=0.002), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase-to-platelet ratio (GPR) >0.32 (P=0.001), aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio (APR) >0.18 (P<0.001), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase-to-albumin ratio (GAR) >2.30 (P=0.001), and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase-to-lymphocyte ratio >29.58 (P<0.001) were identified as preoperative independent risk factors for MVI and were used to establish the nomogram. The C-index of the training and validation cohorts were 0.788 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.744-0.831) and 0.735 (95% CI: 0.668-0.802), respectively. The calibration curve analysis revealed that the standard curve fit well with the predicted curve. ROC curve analysis demonstrated high efficiency of the nomogram. DCA verified that the nomogram had notable clinical value. Conclusion: Preoperative GPR >0.32, APR >0.18, and GAR >2.30 were independent risk factors for MVI in patients with solitary primary HCC, suggesting their utility as preoperative predictors of MVI. The novel nomogram developed and validated in this study may aid in determining optimal therapeutic approaches for patients with solitary HCC at risk for MVI.

PURPOSE: To choose the ideal ureteral access sheath (UAS) size for an unstented ureter in flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in patients treated with FURL for renal calculi from 2005 to 2020. The patients were divided into two groups: smaller (10/12 Fr) vs. larger (12/14 Fr) calibre UAS. The outcomes were the insertion success rate, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) complication rate after the operation, ureteral wall injury, operative time, and stone-free rate. RESULTS: Of the 1573 patients enrolled, 10/12 Fr UAS was used in 957 patients (Group A), and 12/14 Fr UAS was used in the remaining patients (Group B). The insertion success rate was significantly better in Group A (91.2% vs. 86.9%, P = .006), with no significant difference between the groups regarding the stone-free rate, postoperative pain, operative time or hospital stay. The severity of visible ureteral lesions with 10/12 Fr UAS was significantly lower than that with larger UASs (80.1% vs 85.2%, P < .001). Despite the lack of a significant difference in the incidence of SIRS between the two groups, the incidence of SIRS in the 10/12 Fr group showed a sharp increase with stones > 2 cm (17.0% vs. 8.5%, P = 0.037). CONCLUSION: The use of 10/12 Fr UAS was beneficial with respect to insertion success rate, avoiding ureteral wall injury and not increasing postoperative infectious complications in FURL. We recommend the use of a smaller calibre (10/12 Fr) UAS in patients with renal calculi < 2 cm.

BACKGROUND: Effective pain management is limited for patients during prostate biopsy (PBx). Touch support, such as hand holding, has stress-buffering benefits and effective analgesic effects. We conducted a prospective, single-center randomized clinical trial to assess whether hand holding can reduce patient anxiety, pain, and dissatisfaction during PBx. METHODS: Between April 2020 and October 2020, 120 male patients were randomized into three groups: a hand holding with relatives (HR) group, a hand holding with strangers (HS) group and a control group. A visual analog scale (VAS) was used for self-assessments of pain and satisfaction. Anxiety levels were quantified according to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Hemodynamic changes were also measured. RESULTS: The degree of pain and anxiety in the hand-holding groups was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.001), and the patients were more willing to undergo repeat PBx (P=0.017). The anxiety levels in the HR group were significantly lower than those in the HS group (P=0.019). During PBx, the changes in systolic blood pressure and heart rate in the hand-holding groups were more stable than those in the control group (P<0.01), and the fluctuations in heart rate in the HR group were smaller than those in the HS group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Hand holding, especially with relatives, can promote incremental reductions in anxiety, pain and dissatisfaction in patients during PBx. Hence, we recommend hand holding with relatives as an effective adjunct during PBx.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a malignant tumour of the human digestive system that has a poor prognosis. Exosomes contain proteins and nucleic acids, and constitute a class of extracellular vesicles defined as membrane-bound nanovesicles of endocytic origin, with a diameter of 40-150 nm. Exosomes are potential diagnostic markers of PC; however, their roles in cancer initiation and progression remain unclear. Previous studies have focused on the molecular mechanisms and functions of exosomes that allow them to accelerate PC cell proliferation, migration and invasion. The present review discusses the interactions between exosomes and the pathophysiology of PC. The potential clinical applications of exosomes are also discussed.

The solar-assisted desalination generator (SADG) shows great potential for solving water scarcity problems. However, salt precipitation and accumulation is still a challenge for SADG, which slows down solar steam generation performance of evaporator during operation. Here, a facile integrative evaporator featuring stable and high evaporation performance breaks this bottleneck. By using a rational design in which amorphous carbon particles are evenly composited within the porous chitosan aerogel, the evaporator not only integrates excellent light absorption, heat management, and water transportation abilities but also endows a large vapor escape space. Upon desalination, salt concentration ingredients between carbon particles and chitosan membranes can be quickly balanced by water transport in interconnected chitosan chains, and thus salt precipiation on the evaporator surface would be avoided. Compared to other salt-rejection evaporators, the integrative evaporator can operate in 3.5 wt% brine for 60 days without salt precipiation and exhibits a stable evaporation rate (1.70 kg m-2 h-1), indicating its potential for practical applications in seawater desalination and the harvest of clean drinking water.

BACKGROUND: Erectile dysfunction (ED) has often been observed in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Research on adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell (ADSC)-derived exosomes has shown that they have significant therapeutic effects in many diseases including ED. METHODS: In this study, ED was induced in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats using chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) exposure. CIH-mediated influences were then measured in the corpus cavernous smooth muscle cells (CCSMCs). RESULTS: Our data showed that miR-301a-3p-enriched exosome treatment significantly recovered erectile function in rats and CCSMCs by promoting autophagy and inhibiting apoptosis. The treatment also significantly recovered the level of alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) in rats and CCSMCs. Bioinformatics predicted that phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) might be targets of miR-301a-3p. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that PTEN-overexpression vectors or TLR4-overexpression vectors reverse the therapeutic effects achieved by miR-301a-3p in CCSMCs indicating that PTEN/hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) and TLR4 signaling pathways play key roles in the progression of ED. The findings in this study suggest that miR-301a-3p should be considered a new therapeutic target for treating ED associated with OSA.

PURPOSE: To explore whether sexual intercourse is beneficial to the clinical outcome of SWL for ureteral calculi of 7-15 mm in the distal ureter. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between March 2016 and January 2017, 225 patents with a stone (7-15 mm) in distal ureter were randomly divided into three groups after SWL: Group 1 was asked to have sexual intercourse at least three times a week, Group 2 was administered tamsulosin 0.4 mg/d and Group 3 was received standard therapy alone and served as the controls. Stone free rate, time to stone expulsion, pain score at admission, number of hospital visits for pain and steinstrasse were recorded in 2 weeks. RESULTS: 70 patients in Group 1, 71 patients in Group 2 and 68 patients in Group 3 were enrolled to the study. At the end of the first week and the second week, the stone free rates for Group 1 (68.6%, 80.0%) and Group 2 (69.0%, 81.7%) were approximately the same, but were significantly higher than Group 3 (50.0%, 63.2%) (P = .031, P = .022). The VAS scores of Groups 1 and 2 were slightly higher than those of Group 3 (P = .233). The number of patients in Group 3 who visited the emergency room for pain was significantly higher than in the other two groups (P = .015). At the end of the second week, the incidence of steinstrasse in Groups 1 and 2 was significantly lower (2.9%, 2.8% vs 11.8%) (P = .034). CONCLUSION: At least three sexual intercourses per week after SWL can effectively improve the stone free rate, reduce the formation of steinstrasse and relieve renal colic. It provides a choice for urologists in the SWL treatment of lower ureteral calculi.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnosis and management of penile fracture. METHODS: From June 1993 to May 2017, 46 cases of penile fracture were treated in our hospital, averaging 33.5 (25-42) years of age and 3.45 (1-10) hours in duration, of which 41 occurred during sexual intercourse, 4 during masturbation and 1 during prone sleeping, 4 with hematuria, but none with dysuria or urethral bleeding. Hematoma was confined to the penis. Emergency surgical repair was performed for all the patients, 45 under spinal anesthesia and 1 under local anesthesia, 16 by coronal proximal circular incision and the other 30 by local longitudinal incision according to the rupture location on ultrasonogram. The tunica albuginea ruptures averaged 1.31 (0.5-2.5) cm in length, which were sutured in the "8" pattern for 6 cases and with the 3-0 absorbable thread for 18 cases. The skin graft or negative pressure drainage tube was routinely placed, catheters indwelt, and gauze used for early pressure dressing. In the recent few years, elastic bandages were employed for 3-5 days of pressure dressing and antibiotics administered to prevent infection. The stitches and catheter were removed at 7 days after surgery. RESULTS: Short-term postoperative foreskin edema occurred in 14 of the 16 cases of circular degloving incision, but no postoperative complications were observed in any of the cases of local incision. Twenty-eight of the patients completed a long-term follow-up of 49.4 (10-125) months, which revealed good erectile function, painless erection, and satisfactory sexual intercourse. CONCLUSIONS: For most penile fractures, local longitudinal incision is sufficient for successful repair of the tunica albuginea, with mild injury, no influence on the blood supply or lymph reflux, and a low rate complications. It therefore is obviously advantageous over circular degloving incision except when the cavernous body of urethra is to be explored, which necessitates circular degloving incision below the coronal groove.

Solar radiation mineralizes dissolved organic matter (DOM) to dissolved inorganic carbon through photochemical reactions (DIC photoproduction) that are influenced by iron (Fe) and pH. This study addressed as to what extent Fe contributes to the optical properties of the chromophoric DOM (CDOM) and DIC photoproduction at different pH values. We created the associations of Fe and DOM (Fe-DOM) that cover the range of loadings of Fe on DOM and pH values found in freshwaters. The introduced Fe enhanced the light absorption by CDOM independent of pH. Simulated solar irradiation decreased the light absorption by CDOM (i.e., caused photobleaching). Fe raised the rate of photobleaching and steepened the spectral slopes of CDOM in low pH but resisted the slope steepening in neutral to alkaline pH. The combination of a low pH (down to pH 4) and high Fe loading on DOM (up to 3.5 µmol mg DOM-1) increased the DIC photoproduction rate and the apparent quantum yields for DIC photoproduction up to 7-fold compared to the corresponding experiments at pH >6 or without Fe. The action spectrum for DIC photoproduction shifted toward the visible spectrum range at low pH in the presence of Fe. Our results demonstrated that Fe can contribute to DIC photoproduction by up to 86% and produce DIC even at the visible spectrum range in acidic waters. However, the stimulatory effect of Fe is negligible at pH >7.

With static experiments, this paper investigated the protein and chlorophyll contents, and the peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities of Ceratophyllum demersum cultured in meso-, eutro- and hypertrophic and Hoagland's solutions. The results showed that the changes of total N (TN) and total P (TP) concentrations in nutrient solutions had an obvious effect on the biosynthesis of C. demersum. When the concentrations of TN and TP were less than 1 mg x L(-1) and 0.1 mg x L(-1), respectively, the protein and chlorophyll contents of plant declined. The plant from eutrophic solution had higher SOD and POD activities. It was indicated that C. demersum was more preferable to eutropic condition (1 mg TN x L(-1) and 0.1 mg TP x L(-1)), and the raised concentration of nutrients (e. g., hypertrophic and Hoagland's solutions) was a stress to C. demersum and could affect its hardiness physiology.
