RESUMEN
Nowadays, a range of sensors and actuators can be realized directly in the structure of textile substrates using metal-plated yarns, metal-filament yarns, or functionalized yarns with nanomaterials, such as nanowires, nanoparticles, or carbon materials. However, the evaluation or control circuits still depend upon the use of semiconductor components or integrated circuits, which cannot be currently implemented directly into the textiles or substituted by functionalized yarns. This study is focused on a novel thermo-compression interconnection technique intended for the realization of the electrical interconnection of SMD components or modules with textile substrates and their encapsulation in one single production step using commonly widespread cost-effective devices, such as 3D printers and heat-press machines, intended for textile applications. The realized specimens are characterized by low resistance (median 21 mΩ), linear voltage-current characteristics, and fluid-resistant encapsulation. The contact area is comprehensively analyzed and compared with the theoretical Holm's model.
RESUMEN
This paper is focused on the study of internal stress in thick films used in hybrid microelectronics. Internal stress in thick films arises after firing and during cooling due to the differing coefficients of thermal expansion in fired film and ceramic substrates. Different thermal expansions cause deflection of the substrate and in extreme cases, the deflection can lead to damage of the substrate. Two silver pastes and two dielectric pastes, as well as their combinations, were used for the experiments, and the internal stress in the thick films was investigated using the cantilever method. Further experiments were also focused on internal stress changes during the experiment and on the influence of heat treatment (annealing) on internal stress. The results were correlated with the morphology of the fired thick films. The internal stress in the thick films was in the range of 8 to 21 MPa for metallic films and in the range from 12 to 16 MPa for dielectric films. It was verified that the cantilever method can be successfully used for the evaluation of internal stress in thick films. It was also found that the values of deflection and internal stress are not stable after firing, and they can change over time, mainly for metallic thick films.
RESUMEN
The estimation of the speed of human motion from wearable IMU sensors is required in applications such as pedestrian dead reckoning. In this paper, we test deep learning methods for the prediction of the motion speed from raw readings of a low-cost IMU sensor. Each subject was observed using three sensors at the shoe, shin, and thigh. We show that existing general-purpose architectures outperform classical feature-based approaches and propose a novel architecture tailored for this task. The proposed architecture is based on a semi-supervised variational auto-encoder structure with innovated decoder in the form of a dense layer with a sinusoidal activation function. The proposed architecture achieved the lowest average error on the test data. Analysis of sensor placement reveals that the best location for the sensor is the shoe. Significant accuracy gain was observed when all three sensors were available. All data acquired in this experiment and the code of the estimation methods are available for download.

This paper is focused on a new copper-nickel thick film resistive paste which was designed and experimentally developed for the realization of low-ohmic power resistors. This copper-nickel paste has been designed for use in combination with thick printed copper conductors and in comparison with conventional ruthenium-based thick film resistor pastes allows firing in a nitrogen protective atmosphere. The copper-nickel paste was prepared from copper and nickel microparticles, glass binder particles and a combination of organic solvents optimized for its firing in a nitrogen atmosphere. This paper covers a detailed description of copper-nickel paste composition and its thermal properties verified by simultaneous thermal analysis, a description of the morphology of dried and fired copper-nickel films, as well as the electrical parameters of the final printed resistors. It has been proven by electron microscopy with element distribution analysis that copper and nickel microparticles diffused together during firing and created homogenous copper-nickel alloy film. This film shows a low temperature coefficient of resistance ±45 × 0-6 K-1 and low sheet resistance value 45 mΩ/square. It was verified that formulated copper-nickel paste is nitrogen-fireable and well-compatible with thick printed copper pastes. This combination allows the realization of power substrates with directly integrated low-ohmic resistors.
RESUMEN
The present study is a focused and comprehensive analysis of the dielectric and thermal properties of twenty-four 3D printed polymers suitable for fused filament fabrication (FFF) in electronic applications. The selected polymers include various thermoplastic elastomers, such as thermoplastics based on polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG), and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS-T). Their overall thermal behavior, including oxidation stability, glass transition, and melting temperature, was explored using simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Considering their intended usage in electronic applications, the dielectric strength (Ep) and surface/volume resistivity (ρs/ρv) were comprehensively tested according to IEC 60243-1 and IEC 62631-3, respectively. The values of the dielectric constant (ε') and loss factor (ε") were also determined by broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS). While, on the one hand, exceptional dielectric properties were observed for some thermoplastic elastomers, the materials based on PCs, on the other hand, stood out from the others due to their high oxidation stability and above average dielectric properties. The low-cost materials based on PETG or ABS-T did not achieve thermal properties similar to those of the other tested polymers; nevertheless, considering the very reasonable price of these polymers, the obtained dielectric properties are promising for undemanding electronic applications.
RESUMEN
This paper is focused on copper-nickel nanoparticle resistive inks compatible with thick printed copper (TPC) technology, which can be used for power substrate manufacturing instead of conventional metallization techniques. Two types of copper-nickel inks were prepared and deposited by Aerosol Jet technology. The first type of ink was based on copper and nickel nanoparticles with a ratio of 75:25, and the second type of ink consisted of copper-nickel alloy nanoparticles with a ratio of 55:45. The characterization of electrical parameters, microstructure, thermal analysis of prepared inks and study of the influence of copper-nickel content on electrical parameters are described in this paper. It was verified that ink with a copper-nickel ratio of 55:45 (based on constantan nanoparticles) is more appropriate for the production of resistors due to low sheet resistance ~1 Ω/square and low temperature coefficient of resistance ±100·10-6 K-1 values. Copper-nickel inks can be fired in a protective nitrogen atmosphere, which ensures compatibility with copper films. The compatibility of copper-nickel and copper films enables the production of integrated resistors directly on ceramics substrates of power electronics modules made by TPC technology.
RESUMEN
An electrochemical amperometric ethylene sensor with solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) and semi-planar three electrode topology involving a working, pseudoreference, and counter electrode is presented. The polymer electrolyte is based on the ionic liquid 1-butyl 3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [BMIM][NTf2] immobilized in a poly(vinylidene fluoride) matrix. An innovative aerosol-jet printing technique was used to deposit the gold working electrode (WE) on the solid polymer electrolyte layer to make a unique electrochemical active SPE/WE interface. The analyte, gaseous ethylene, was detected by oxidation at 800 mV vs. the platinum pseudoreference electrode. The sensor parameters such as sensitivity, response/recovery time, repeatability, hysteresis, and limits of detection and quantification were determined and their relation to the morphology and microstructure of the SPE/WE interface examined. The use of additive printing techniques for sensor preparation demonstrates the potential of polymer electrolytes with respect to the mass production of printed electrochemical gas sensors.

A new predictor-corrector filter for attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS) using data from an orthogonal sensor combination of three accelerometers, three magnetometers and three gyroscopes is proposed. The filter uses the predictor-corrector structure, with prediction based on gyroscopes and independent correction steps for acceleration and magnetic field sensors. We propose two variants of the filter: (i) one using mathematical operations of special orthogonal group SO(3), that are accurate for nonlinear operations, for highest possible accuracy, and (ii) one using linearization of nonlinear operations for fast evaluation. Both approaches are quaternion-based filter realizations without redundant steps. The filters are compared to state of the art methods in this field on data recorded using low-cost microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors with ground truth measured by the VICON optical system. Both filters achieved better accuracy than conventional methods at lower computational cost. The recorded data with ground truth reference and the source codes of both filters are publicly available.
RESUMEN
Prion disorders are fatal neurodegenerative diseases caused by the autocatalytic conversion of a natively occurring prion protein (PrPC ) into its misfolded infectious form (PrPTSE ). The proven resistance of PrPTSE to common disinfection procedures increases the risk of prion transmission in medical settings. Herein, we present the effective photodynamic inactivation (PDI) of prions by disulfonated hydroxyaluminum phthalocyanine (AlPcOH(SO3 )2 ) utilizing two custom-built red light sources. The treatment eliminates PrPTSE signal in infectious mouse brain homogenate with efficiency that depends on light intensity but has a low effect on the overall protein content. Importantly, singlet oxygen (O2 (1 Δg )) is the only species significantly photogenerated by AlPcOH(SO3 )2 , and it is responsible for the PDI of prions. More intensive light conditions show not only higher O2 (1 Δg ) production but also decreases in AlPcOH(SO3 )2 photostability. Our findings suggest that PDI by AlPcOH(SO3 )2 -generated O2 (1 Δg ) represents a promising approach for prion inactivation that may be useful in future decontamination strategies for delicate medical tools.

A systematic study was carried out to investigate the effect of ionic liquid in solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) and its layer morphology on the characteristics of an electrochemical amperometric nitrogen dioxide sensor. Five different ionic liquids were immobilized into a solid polymer electrolyte and key sensor parameters (sensitivity, response/recovery times, hysteresis and limit of detection) were characterized. The study revealed that the sensor based on 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIM][N(Tf)2]) showed the best sensitivity, fast response/recovery times, and low sensor response hysteresis. The working electrode, deposited from water-based carbon nanotube ink, was prepared by aerosol-jet printing technology. It was observed that the thermal treatment and crystallinity of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) in the solid polymer electrolyte influenced the sensitivity. Picture analysis of the morphology of the SPE layer based on [EMIM][N(Tf)2] ionic liquid treated under different conditions suggests that the sensor sensitivity strongly depends on the fractal dimension of PVDF spherical objects in SPE. Their deformation, e.g., due to crowding, leads to a decrease in sensor sensitivity.
