Cultural differences in self-construal, human relationships, and values between Western and East Asian people have been suggested. The aim of this article is to investigate cultural difference in dreamers' self-construal based on their dreams. We examined the dreams sampled via online questionnaires from 300 non-clinical participants from America and Japan, respectively. The free response for the contents of "impressive dreams in childhood" "recent impressive dreams" was categorized into the five general dream structural patterns. Besides, the participants were asked to answer the scales to investigate participants' cultural self-construal. The current results revealed the prevalence of the independent view of self in American participants and the interdependent view of self in Japanese participants. In addition, we found significant cultural differences in the dream length and structural patterns. For American dreams, the dream-ego had a clear will and strong mobility, and there were obvious ends of dream events. Conversely, for Japanese dreams, the weak agency and vague conscious of the dream-ego were shown, and others could play a main role in one's dreams. These results suggested that each characteristic of the American and Japanese samples may be influenced by the differences in self-construal or in the process of self-formation between American and Japanese cultures.

For broad detection of pestivirus A (bovine viral diarrhea virus 1: BVDV1) and pestivirus B (BVDV2) by a reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) test, the P25 primer set was designed using nucleotide sequences of 5'-UTR region of 1454 BVDVs. The base coverage of each primer against diverse BVDVs were more than 99% in each base position. The one step LAMP test with the P25 primer set could detect both BVDV1 (TK) and BVDV2 (KZ), but did not amplify 5 other bovine viruses. Detection limit of the LAMP test was 103 copies of synthesized DNAs, and 10-3 and 10-4 dilutions of viral RNAs of TK and KZ strains, respectively, whereas that with current Aebischer's primer set was 10-2 dilution and negative of these RNAs, respectively. All of the 63 viral RNA samples of persistently infected (PI) cattle, consisting of the 1a (12), 1b (31), 1c (11), and 2a (9) subgenotypes, were broadly detected with the P25, while only 65% of them were positive with Aebischer's primer set. The validation study showed that the RT-LAMP test with the P25 had 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity against that with updated Vilcek's PCR primers. Also, by using the P26 primer set which contained 3 species-specific primers, all 63 RNA samples were clearly distinguished from BVDV1 or BVDV2 by the typing RT-LAMP test. These results indicate that the one step RT-LAMP test using P25 or P26 primer sets would be useful for broad detection and rapid differentiation of BVDV1 and BVDV2.

Gender differences have been documented in the prevalence of psychological symptoms. Tic disorders and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are more common in male clinical samples, while selective mutism and trichotillomania are more common in female clinical samples. In a review of 84 published case studies of Japanese children, this study explored gender differences in the prevalence of four categories of symptoms and expressions made in therapy for tics, selective mutism, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and trichotillomania. Case studies were evaluated using both qualitative coding and statistical analysis. The findings were mostly consistent with epidemiological surveys and empirical research on adults. The gender differences in symptom prevalence and their expression could be summarized as differences in more direct aggression for boys versus indirect aggression for girls. The objective and progress in the therapy were to control impulsive energy for boys and to express energy for girls.

In vertebrates, the rejection of allografts is primarily accomplished by cell-mediated immunity. We recently identified four IFNγ isoforms with antiviral activity in ginbuna crucian carp, Carassius auratus langsdorfii. However, involvement of the IFNγ isoforms in cell-mediated immunity, especially in T cell function remains unknown. Here we investigate expression of the IFNγ isoforms and effects of administration of recombinant IFNγ (rgIFNγ) isoforms in ginbuna scale allograft rejection. All four IFNγ isoforms showed significantly higher expression with the progression of graft rejection. Administration of rgIFNγrel 1 but not rgIFNγrel 2, rgIFNγ1 nor rgIFNγ2 enhanced allograft rejection. The number of CD4(+) and CD8α(+) cells increased in early stages of rejection, while sIgM(+) cells were higher than controls at day 0 and 5 in the rgIFNγrel 1 administrated group. Expression of IFNγ1 and IFNγ2 mRNA was significantly up-regulated by rgIFNγrel 1 administration, while that of IFNγrel 1 and IFNγrel 2 was not. These results suggest different contributions of the four IFNγ isoforms toward the immune responses comprising allograft rejection.

In mammals the rejection of allografts is primarily accomplished by cell-mediated immunity including T cells. Recently, considerable studies reveal the existence of helper and cytotoxic T cell subsets in fish. Here we investigate the kinetics of CD4(+) and CD8α(+) T cells along with sIgM(+) cells and phagocytic cells in an allogeneic scale graft model using ginbuna crucian carp for understanding the mechanisms of cell-mediated immune response. The results showed that CD4(+) T cells first infiltrated into allogeneic scales followed by CD8α(+) and sIgM(+) cells, and finally phagocytic cells appeared in the graft. Furthermore, most of the CD8α(+) T cells appeared on the border of the allografted scales at the time of rejection. These results suggest that T cells play crucial roles and work together with other cell types for completion of allograft rejection.
