RESUMEN

To address the challenges associated with the realization of optical non-reciprocity and enhance the efficiency of GaAs solar cells, among other systems, in this study, we investigated defect-mode interactions in a one-dimensional photonic crystal containing two Weyl semimetal-based defect layers. Moreover, two non-reciprocal defect modes were observed, namely, when defects are identical and nearby. Increasing the defect distance weakened the defect-mode interactions, thus causing the modes to gradually move closer and then degenerate into one mode. It should be noted that by changing the optical thickness of one of the defect layers, the mode was found to degrade to two non-reciprocal dots with different frequencies and angles. This phenomenon can be attributed to an accidental degeneracy of two defect modes with dispersion curves that intersect in the forward and backward directions, respectively. Moreover, by twisting Weyl semimetal layers, the accidental degeneracy occurred only in the backward direction, thus resulting in a sharp angular and unidirectional filter.

Magnetic nano-chitosan (MNC) was prepared and characterized. The kinetics, thermodynamics, and influencing factors of the adsorption of Cr6+, Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+, as well as their competitive adsorption onto MNC in aqueous solution, were studied. The results showed that the adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics of Cr6+, Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+ were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isothermal adsorption model, indicating that the adsorption was mainly chemical adsorption and endothermic. Increasing the dosage of MNC, the equilibrium adsorption capacity (qe) of Cr6+, Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+ decreased; their removal rate (η) increased. With the increase in the solution's pH, the qe and η of Cr6+ first increased and then decreased; the qe and η of Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+ increased. With the increase in the metal ion initial concentration, the qe increased; the η of Cr6+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ decreased, while the η of Pb2+ increased first and then decreased. Temperature had a weak influence on the qe of Cr6+ and Pb2+, while it had a strong influence on Cu2+ and Zn2+, the qe and η were greater when the temperature was higher, and the adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic. The qe and η of Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+ decreased in the presence of co-existing ions. The influences among metal ions existed in a binary and ternary ion system. The current study's results provide a theoretical support for the simultaneous treatment of harmful metal ions in wastewater by MNC.

Understanding plant-microbe interactions could provide the basis for improved phytoremediation, microbial resource utilization, and secondary metabolite production. Rhizosphere bacterial communities are strongly influenced by abiotic factors such as soil nutrient availability and the composition of such communities exhibits differentiation under different host plants. In a deciduous broad-leaved forest in Anhui Province, eastern China, the rhizospheric bacteria of three different tree species of the Rosaceae family (Sorbus alnifolia, Cerasus serrulata, and Photinia beauverdiana) were studied, with the bacteria of the bulk soil as controls. Bacterial community composition was determined using the Illumina platform for high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes. The results showed that the bacterial community composition varied between rhizospheric and bulk soils, and dominant bacterial phyla as Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Acidobacteria were found in both soils. Information on predicted functional genes and pathways revealed significant differences between rhizospheric and bulk soil bacteria. It provided ample evidence for the different metabolic characteristics of the rhizosphere bacterial communities of the three tree species. Electrical conductivity (22.72%), total phosphorus concentration (21.89%), and urease activity (22%) were the main drivers for changes in the composition of the rhizosphere bacterial communities from the three tree species.

Taking Yanta District in Xi'an as the research object, the present study measures the contents of Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni), and Chromium (Cr) in dust samples and further assesses the health risk of heavy metals intake through dust based on the assessment method of human exposure risk proposed by U.S. EPA, with an aim to investigate the content of heavy metal in the dust of leisure squares and its exposure risk. As the results indicate, the average contents of five heavy metals are obviously higher than the soil background value in Shaanxi Province. Therefore, Cd, Ni, Cu, Pb, and Cr are obviously enriched in urban surface dust in Shaanxi Province, due to the influence of human activities. In addition, it can also be found that the non-carcinogen exposure risk in children is significantly higher than that in adults with the risk values of these five heavy metals all one order of magnitude higher than those of adults. Irrespective of whether addressing the results for children or adults, the non-carcinogen exposure doses of five heavy metals are sorted as Cr > Pb > Cu > Ni > Cd. According to the present situation, for a child, the total non-carcinogenic risk values of five heavy metals have exceeded the safety limit in 11 of the 20 leisure squares in Yanta District of Xi'an. That means the leisure squares are no longer suitable for physical and recreational activities. For the five heavy metals, the average non-carcinogenic risk value of Cr is largest, and causes the largest threat to health in Yanta District, Xi'an. The carcinogenic exposure doses of the heavy metals Cr, Cd, and Ni are very low in respiratory pathways and there is no carcinogenic health risk. In general, the Cr content in dust in domestic cities is higher than that of foreign cities; however, the Pb content is much lower.
